Chapter 25
"Something's wrong," Jyuubey frowned at the screen. "Rena's goddess power is beginning to overpower the barrier." His screen showed the rising energy levels and figures rising, past the limit of the barrier. "It's trying to break through to get back to her."
Kyubey looked up.
"It can't be," he responded incredulously. "We've gone so far, and if she turns back into a godess, all our work would be wasted." Jyuubey flicked an ear.
"Well, it's still happening," he replied. "What should we do now? I already have Lyubey in there, strengthening the barriers, to try and contain it longer, but if she doesn't succeed, well..."
"Should we restrain Rena?" Kyubey asked Jyuubey. Jyuubey shook his head.
"I would, but seeing as she might break through the barriers instead, it would not only make her lose her trust in us, but she might even end up fighting and destroying Walpurgisnacht either way." Kyubey nodded, sitting down.
"I guess that leaves us no choice," he admitted finally. "We'll have to destroy her godess energy."
"Make a contract," Rena urged the young girl. "I can't find her alone." Madoka looked unsure.
"What do I wish for? Who are you anyway?" Rena had forgotten how people can be so distrusting, not that they didn't have a reason to.
"I'm Rena," she told her. "And you have to hurry, wish for any-" Rena felt something seize her. She shut her eyes tightly, trying to get rid of it, but it wouldn't leave.
Opening her eyes again, she realised how dangerous it was. Madoka didn't have to contract, she could fight Walpurgisnacht alone.
"Stay here," she told her, before running off, leaping up onto the centre roof like Homura had. Seeing Walpurgisnacht, who was about to begin attacking the centre, she lashed out with her whips at the witch. She would destroy it.
Rena gasped as a violent gust threw her backwards. As soon as she felt herself weaken, she frowned. Why was she fighting Walpurgisnacht? She should be trying to convince Madoka to contract, not risk her life.
"The energies are already getting unstable," Jyuubey reported. "You should hurry up with whatever you're doing, Kyubey." Kyubey nodded, as he set up another activation sequence.
"Five minutes is all I need," he replied. "Lyubey, get back to the main within the next five minutes." He spoke through a speaker, which, after a few seconds, Lyubey's voice replied.
"Got it."
"Mmph," Rena stumbled up to where Madoka stood in front of the evacuation building. "You have to help me. Please contract with an incubator." Madoka looked at Walpurgisnacht, menacing in the sky.
"Are you sure?" She asked. "How can I help? I'm not strong, I don't even know if I can help you." Rena wanted to yell at her. Didn't she know what magical potential she had? So much that the incubators were using whatever method they could to try to make her contract.
"It's in place," Kyubey reported. "Activating in 5, 4, 3, 2-" As he said 1, an alarm blaring, as both Kyubey and Jyuubey stared intensely at the screen, watching as concentrated beams of energy were focused onto the white form of Rena's goddess energy, in an attempt to eradicate it."
"It looks like it's working," Jyuubey commented, watching the screen, as the white line representing Rena's energy slowly faded away.
"It's not there anymore," Kyubey finally said, once the white light was completely gone. "Wait, where'd it go?" Jyuubey looked at Kyubey.
"It's meant to go somewhere?" Kyubey nodded.
"The plan was to have it sent to a plane of nothingness really, but our sensors still detect it somewhere. It's still in the existing world though, and I don't know where it is."
