Chapter 23

"Ayame?" Kana stared at Ayame's body, unaware of the darkness raining down around her.

Figures appeared, their Tetris-like bodies beginning to march towards Kana. Blade-like arms appeared, spinning rapidly, with the thinness of a hair and sharpness of a razor.

Kana looked up, seeing the familiars, and braced herself, holding her axe tightly.

As she readied herself, the familiars began running forward, their arms spinning even faster, as they began trying to cut and slash at Kana.

Kana ducked, the first one missing her by a hair. Another caught her arm though, and she felt warm blood trickle down her arm.

Almost as soon as the familiars sensed that they had drawn blood, they increased their intensity, the bladed arms spinning even faster, as they pursued Kana.

Kana ran, her breath hitched, as she ran through a gateway. A laugh erupted, as soon as she entered. Kana looked up in alarm, seeing what looked like an arcade machine, with a crudely drawn black haired girl on the screen.

"Ayame?" she questioned. She recognised the girl on the screen, no matter how crudely it was drawn.

The witch only chuckled, moving towards Kana, every step with purpose.

Kana stepped back, unsure of the witch. Then the witch began to fade, the labyrinth fading along with it. Finally, it was gone, and Kana stood back among the ruins of Mitakihara City. Walpurgisnacht laughed in the distance, stronger than ever, as she absorbed the witch into her.

"Come back!" Kana cried, beginning to run after the witch floating away in the distance. "I won't let you take away Ayame!" Sprinting, and letting her magic boost her, Kana flew through the air, her axe whirling, as she struck at Walpurgisnacht.

Walpurgisnacht laughed, taunting and mocking the brown-haired magical girl. Purple minions popped up out of the air to surround Kana in a giggling circle, daring her to strike them. She did, and as the minions vanished, another purple minion popped right in front of her face. Before she could react, it had blasted her full on in the face.

The blow threw the young magical girl backwards, to land on the ground, hard. Kana didn't realise, but her soul gem was completely black. She only stared in shock, as everything dissolved around her, filled only with despair.

Emiria had seen the body of Miku fall, from the side of a building. The witch must be very strong. If it can pick off all these magical girls, how long would it be until it came for her?

Her mind made up, Emiria stood up, transforming in a flash, her black handgun appearing on her hand.

She began to run. She would need somewhere high to glide off.

Homura saw Kana trying to attack Walpurgisnacht, and being surrounded by the purple minions. She couldn't stop to help her though, Walpurgisnacht was too close to the evacuation centre.

She began throwing more bombs at the witch, timing them to set off as soon as they touched her.

They blasted against the witch, sending her backwards through the air. The further she was from the evacuation centre, the better.

Emiria could see the witch getting thrown back by the hail of bombs. Running off the building she was standing on, she let the winds carry her, gliding over the city, closer to Walpurgisnacht.

As soon as she was close enough, she raised her hand, firing at the witch. Lowering a finger, a blast fired out, rocketing towards the witch.
