Chapter 18

Miku woke up first. She stared for a second at the glass case encircling her, before she felt the pressure in her glass case increase. With a smash, it broke, shattering out onto the floor, sending Miku tumbling out.

Miku sat up on the cold marble floor. She winced, cutting herself on some of the glass shards as she pulled herself to her feet, feeling extremely tired. What had happened to her?

A glint from the far side of the room caught her eye. She looked up, to see a familiar glowing blue soul gem, resting on a pedastool. She stumbled towards it, grasping it as soon as it was in her reach. Peering down at it, she realised that it had changed.

The mottled colours of darkness and grief surged around the blue soul gem. As soon as she touched it, the grief expanded, beginning to rise and fill it. Was it...?

CRACK! Yuuki blinked awake, as she felt her body hit the floor. She lay there, staring up at the ceiling, the cold floor chilling the back of her head. Yuuki felt so exhausted, with barely any energy to stand up. She didn't even feel like she could walk.

"Are you...okay?" The hesitant question echoed into the cold room, and Yuuki struggled to get up, wanting to defend herself. She sat up unsteadily, feeling her head spin. Twisting around, she saw another girl whom she recognised. Miku.

Miku looked just as bedraggled as her, her hair dangling limply around her face, in tangled strands. Her hands were covered in specks of blood. From what, Yuuki didn't know.

Miku turned, and pointed.

"Your soul gem," She began uncertainly. Yuuki turned, to see her soul gem, no longer white but grey. It was turning darker by the second. Slowly, Yuuki got up, stepping towards her soul gem. Her legs trembled, why was she so weak?

As Yuuki reached out to pick up her darkening soul gem, she felt grief seize her.

How pathetic she was. First she got caught by some other magical girl, and now, she couldn't even stand up properly.

What was the point of it? Yuuki stared down at her soul gem. If it broke. If it broke, she wouldn't have to worry about anything. She wouldn't be so pathetic. She opened her hands, letting her soul gem fall from her grasp.

Her head hurt. It hurt a lot. Emiria opened her eyes, her vision blurry. What had happened? Then she remembered, the white magical girl, she caught her. What then?

Looking from side to side, wincing as her head moved, Emiria realised she was lying on a cold marble floor. Glass pieces surrounded her, lying on the floor. There was one under her head.

Gingerly, Emiria tugged it out, lifting her head, then letting it lie back on the ground.

Fumbling, Emiria felt the back of her head. It came away sticky with blood. It didn't matter, she had to find out what was going on and get back. She was so tired.

With a shudder, Kana woke up. She remembered everything. The man, that white girl. The whole world was dangerous. Then her train of thoughts stopped. Where was she? What had happened to her? She was floating in a strange capsule. The glass walls let her see outside, in the large marble room.

Kana began to struggle, kicking against the walls of her glass tube.

"Let me out," She screamed, banging against the walls uselessly. "Let me-"

CRASH!

Kana fell out onto the floor, the ground around her littered with glass shards.

"What-?" Kana stopped, looking around. Something made her look up.

Ayame was in another glass tube, similar to the one she had just been in.

"Ayame?" Kana whispered, walking up to the glass tube. "Hey, Ayame, wake up!" She stared up at the floating figure of the black-haired magical girl. Almost as though in reply, the glass capsule shattered, exploding on Kana.

"We could send them back," Lyubey suggested, "Walpurgisnacht's coming in less than 24 hours, and that won't be enough time for them to recover. Even with the number of them, they will probably all be killed or defeated. Madoka will still have to contract." Jyuubey stopped tapping and stared at Lyubey.

"We'll have to wait for them all to wake up first," Jyuubey informed. "But that is an excellent idea." Jyuubey turned back to his screen, where the magical girls had woken up.

"Kana will be a problem though, her wish means that she won't feel the effects of the coma we kept her in. She could still fight Walpurgisnacht." Lyubey shook her head.

"One magical girl can't destroy Walpurgisnacht alone though," she pointed out. "Shouldn't it be okay for Kana to leave as well?"

Jyuubey paused, considering this.

"That's a good point," he admitted. "I suppose we shouldn't worry about Kana then."
