Chapter 15

"We have to catch Homura," Kyubey told Rena, "She's the last one. Once she's caught, Madoka will have no choice but to contract."

"I know." Rena replied, testily.

"Ok," Kyubey conceded, "Make your move tonight."

That night, Homura marched through the city stiffly, her soul gem out, ready to fight any witches. She had to begin collecting grief seeds, and make sure no witches were left in the city, when Wapurgisnacht came. Her purple soul gem began pulsing, as she walked, alerting her of a witch nearby. Homura kept walking, waiting for her soul gem to pulse even brighter. Finally, when she could even feel the grief of a labyrinth nearby, she stopped.

As the transformation completed itself, Homura reached behind her shield, pulling out a bomb. She tossed it at the air in front of her calmly, unfazed as the bomb tore open a hole in the air in front of her.

Quietly, Homura stepped into the labyrinth, gazing at her surroudings calmly. She had emerged into a dark passageway, where lights bobbed eerily, to and fro along the walls.

A small, ghost-like figure appeared at the end of the passageway. It was so pale and transparent, that Homura could barely see her. The figure saw Homura though.

A ghostly mouth opened on its face, and the ghost screamed. A high-pitched wailing sound, full of horror. Immediately, Homura was tossed forward, wind rushing through her hair. She had been noticed.

A howl erupted in front of Homura, a sound which hurt her ears. Cringing, and clamping her hands over her ears, she looked up to see the source of it.

Malinda, witch of the dungeon, was a towering monstrosity. Her long, dark hair hung in straggly clumps down her back, and face. She was like a hunched, wizened woman, but her eyes glowed red and black.

Homura was quick to throw a bomb at the witch, before yanking her shield, stopping time. The whole labyrinth stopped, clicking into a greyscale picture. Homura summoned a line of guns. PIcking each one up in turn, she fired them at the witch, waiting until every single one was in the air, before twisting her shield again.

The bullets struck the witch fiercely, knocking her back, making her fall. Wraith-like familiars rushed in, howling and screaming their anger, as they attacked Homura. Homura immediately spanned the area with bullets, making sure she took out every single one of the familiars. By the time she was done, the witch had gotten up again.

She howled, a hand raised to thunder down on Homura. It was easy for Homura to dart out of the way, the hand sending shockwaves around the ground.

The witch was almost finished, Homura knew, her attacks were increasing, a sign of desperation. Reaching behind her shield, Homura pulled out a final gun, and firing at the bullet, sending her magic into the gun, to ensure that the bullet would finish off the witch.

It did, and the witch died, surprisingly quietly.

The labyrinth faded around Homura, the lights of Mitakihara City appearing again.

Something hit Homura in the back, sending her flying. Homura grimaced, getting up slowly from the cold pavement, to face her attacker. Her attacker was a surprise.

A small, white girl stood there, a pair of blazing whips dangling from her hands. She smiled at Homura. A smile which Homura couldn't decipher.

"Who are-" Homura never got a chance to finish the question, as the two whips lunged at her with blinding speed.

She jumped out, pulling out a gun, firing at the whips and magical girl, as she spun through the air.

It was hard firing at the whips though. They twisted and curled like snakes, making it almost impossible to hit them. Almost.

Homura twisted her shield, letting her magic stop time. Everything froze, the greyscale scene settling on them.

Homura immediately summoned a number of bombs, throwing them at the girl and her whips, watching them stop mid-air.

The whips quivered, as though they were trying to break through time. In fact, they still glowed white, contrasting the grey scene around it.

BOOM! The bombs exploded as Homura let time resume. The girl was hardly fazed, the bombs seemingly going through her, the same happening with her whips.

Homura stopped, shocked. That girl had not been injured at all by the bombs, and neither had her whips. Who was she?

A whip flew through the air to slap Homura on the face. She twisted to the side, a vain attempt to escape, but a whip caught her around the ankle, sending her tumbling to the floor.

She was tossed up into the air, and Homura felt another whip latch itself around her wrist, right next to her soul gem. She wriggled, trying to get free, but she couldn't reach behind her shield while her arm was caught.

The girl's eyes glowed red, as she stared at the purple diamond on Homura's hand. Homura felt something seize her, pulling her, until she was floating into darkness.

"All done." Rena sighed.
