Chapter XIX

"Excuse me sir" Jenny pokes her head in the gap between the glass door and the frame, warily opening the huge glass door to the office of her manager.

"Yes come in Jenny" Mr. D'souza answers, his eyes never leave the desktop screen he has been glaring for the past couple hours. With grayish streaks along his temple coming down to his sideburns which then extend all the way down to his gracefully maintained beard, Mr. D'souza doesn't look like a man who is pushing his fifties. With a brisk in his gait, command in his voice, Mr. D'souza is the poster man for an ideal executive. With a talent to identify his team members just from their voice, Mr. D'souza rarely ever has to peel his concentration from his work.

"Sir may I get a couple hours permission?" Jenny asks, with a noticeable fervor in her voice. This is enough to give Mt. D'souza a hint that Jenny is asking permission which does not involve any office work. Not wanting to startle her, he calmly pours himself a glass of water, while gesturing her to take a seat.

"What this permission would be for Jenny?" Mr. D'souza asks, his dark eyes piercing Jenny all the way to her soul. Always known for his no nonsense approach on almost everything, Jenny comes right to her point with his.

"Sir I met a guy on my last weekend vacation. He seemed like a very genuine guy and he just invited me for lunch. If I could get permission for 2 hours, I will just go and come back in a jiffy" Jenny blurts out without a breath.

"So you want my permission to go for a date huh?" Mr. D'souza questions, more like interrogates, like policeman would to a criminal.

"That would true sir" Jenny replies, with an audible gulp.

"What about the Fleischmann project? How are we looking at its progress?" Mr. D'souza asks about his recent project which was handed to him by the management. He had handed over this project to Jenny and her colleagues, as he had a bigger project to handle and also because this project will be crucial to Jenny's growth.

"We have good progress on it sir. I have met all the requirements they asked for it. I have also added a file explaining all the corrections done. I have prepared a file for contingency purposes, in case they experience any last minute problems. Tanvi is preparing her marketing file. She should be done with it by evening and we will present the project to you tomorrow first thing in the morning." Jenny explains, thinking that this may work in her favor.

"I have told you before itself Jenny. Don't prepare the contingency measure file before finishing the project completely. But you are already done with it." Mr. D'souza gives her a look of disappointment.

"Sir I made the contingency measure file simultaneously with the project file. So that in the end I don't miss out any point. And the contingency measure file is not closed. Tanvi is also updating it as she is making the marketing file and presentation." Jenny debates her point, though with a flutter in her voice.

'Good point and better approach. Jenny is growing' goes through Mr. D'souza's mind, though he replies with just a nod.

"Well you have my permission. Enjoy. Try to be back in 3 hours" Mr. D'souza answers with an assertive tone, which comes more like a command.

"Thank you sir" and Jenny heads for the door. As she is about to exit the cabin, Mr. D'souza looks up and calls her. "Why did you choose to go with truth. You could have said that you have some emergency at home and I would have given you the permission without a flinch. Why did you take the chance?" Mr. D'souza asks her. "Sir I just wanted to be honest. That way I don't have to hide anything from you in the future and you won't have the added tension to keep an eye on me" Jenny replies, with candor that can pierce any person with a steel heart.

"Take the rest of the day off. You have earned it. Just make sure Tanvi keeps to her end of your deal" Mr. D'souza replies, with a faint smile making its way on his face. "Thank you sir. I won't let you down" Jenny replies with a grin that stretches from ear to ear.

Seeing Jenny exit from Mr. D'souza's cabin with a big smile, Tanvi is sure that Jenny would have put up some extra work that she will have to on behalf of her. Not that she wouldn't do, Tanvi had been a good friend of Jenny from the day they both met in college. Though Tanvi was never able to shine as good Jenny, she was not a slacker. Getting good grades in college throughout, she was determined to abroad for higher studies. With her family standing behind her with full support, she refused to all the campus placements and applied to various universities in various countries. Though she got some good responses, she was not able to secure proper visa within the stipulated period of time. Now that her future studies plans hit a speed-bump, her mother was pressurizing her to get something going, even though her father was standing like a pillar which could not been knocked down even by an atom bomb. Not wanting to a burden on her family anymore, she decided to go to work, though just sidelining her aims of abroad studies for a while. When she informed Jenny about her decision, Jenny put forth Tanvi's name to her immediate manager, requesting to grant her a chance. When Tanvi heard about this she felt immensely indebted to Jenny for securing her good break. So for Jenny, Tanvi was ready to sweat extra.

"I got the rest of the day off." Jenny exclaims in a high pitch, and then keep her hand on her mouth as to not seem to crazy.

"Oh you are so lucky. What did you tell him?" Tanvi asks with a grin in her face.

"The truth. He let me have the rest of the day off after I told him."

Tanvi's mouth just drops with awe of surprise, for everybody knows how strict is Mr. D'souza when it comes to work.

"Hey snap out of it. I need your lip gloss. And also your scarf." Jenny demands, while packing her small backpack.

"Uhhh lip gloss huh. Lucky guy I must say" Tanvi teases as she fishes out her lip gloss. "Stop it yaar. He is a nice guy. I just want to be prepared for... you know" Jenny trails off, as she hooks her backpack on her shoulder, snatching the lip gloss and the scarf from Tanvi's hands. As soon as Jenny exits her office floor, Tanvi makes a dash for the other stairs, wanting to surprise Jenny downstairs and meet the mystery guy, she has been blabbering about since Matheran. With the cigarette pack and lighter in her pocket, she makes her way swiftly through the stairs, her childhood parkour training assisting her at her time of need.

In the lift, Jenny opens her foundation box and applies some necessary touch up. Some rouge hairs which have escaped the confines of her clip, are quickly caught sent back to their imprisonment. Being alone in lift for a while, she asses herself in the shiny console of the lift. Standing at 5'5", she is the type of girl one would call petite. With her perky breasts, which are kind of accentuated with her white shirt, she ties the scarf on her neck and swings the knot to the side, so as to put her cleavage under the shadow. Running her hands along her slender waist, she pulls up her pants, so that ample buttocks are snuggly fit. Some quick spray's from her pocket perfume, she assures herself that she does not have overpowering sweat odor. As the lift reaches the ground floor, she texts Tarun about her progress and proceed to the coffee shop for a quick refreshment before Tarun arrives. As the guy prepares her juice, she receives a text from Tarun that he is waiting for her the gate.

"Bhaiya jaldi!" (Brother, fast), Jenny instructs the guy behind the counter, who is just putting thos luscious watermelons pieces into the blender. Once the guy hands over the juice, she picks it and and jogs elegantly to the gate.

"Tarun what is the car type, color, no. Where are you parked?" Jenny doesn't even take a breath and blasts off her queries.

"I am waiting just outside your complex main gate. In fact I am smoking with you friend Tanvi here." Tarun replies. Jenny stops on her tracks and starts figuring out how did she make it down and found them before even she found, as she hears Tanvi greeting her in the distance. "Ok" is all the reply she is able to make out before hanging up and brainstorming about Tanvi. After not being able to figure out, she shrugs it off and makes her way through the main gate. She turn her head to the right and behold, Tarun and his friends are with Tanvi, who is holding a cigarette in her hand and Neeraj, chatting very closely with Tanvi. As she heads for them, Rajesh elbows Tarun, who turns and meets his eyes wit Jenny.

'God she is so beautiful' is all Tarun can think as he walks upto her and extends his hand for a formal handshake. Jenny just gives him an innocent look and goes for casual hug.

"The first time we met, we spent the night in a room together. Accepted we didn't do anything but still" Jenny whispers in Tarun's ears as she breaks of the hug. Tarun just blushes red and looks down, replying with just a sheepish grin. "Come on, I will properly introduce my friends this time" Tarun extends his hands they walk hand in hand.

"How did you come down here without getting in my sight and how the hell did you find these guys?" is the first question she bursts out, as Tarun's friends and Tanvi come within her earshot. "Facebook Yaar. I checked out Tarun's name in your friends list and you name in his friends list. They matched, so I got the first clue. Then I checked both of your Matheran photos. Same dates, so better assurity that he is the Tarun you are blabbering about" Tanvi replies coolly as she takes a drag from her cigarette.

"You would make a great detective", Neeraj compliments Tanvi, trying to make a move with her, though its clear that Tanvi does not reciprocate the same with him. "Well my cigarette break is over guys. So I will meet you some other time. Nice catching up guys." Tanvi shouts out as she runs towards her complex main gate. "Interesting friend, Jenny." Neeraj mocks with a smirk in his face. "She has always been like that. Doesn't like boys that much. So don't feel bad." Jenny replies with a calm face.

"Shall we.." Tarun asks as he opens the car door, once again showing his chivalrous side.

"Thank you" and Jenny makes her way into the car, not before touching Tarun's shoulder on the pretext of taking his support in entering the car. Ecstatic by this, Tarun gets into the driver seat, and they zoom off of to the nearby mall.
