Chapter LVI
Jenny's improvisation plans worked for 'The Matrix'. As Tarun had predicted, SIDCO's value had increased only enough to lessen the financial load on them, not to supplement the entire excessive expenses put in by the trio. Neeraj had come back after three days, though his explanation for his absence and lack of contact was not satisfactory for Rajesh and Tarun. Pallavi had opened up about her pregnancy to her in-laws and as expected by Rajesh, they extended their full support.
"Guys, we have recieved an urgent assignment from 'Aventura Solutions'. It has to be completed as soon as possible." Neeraj announces during their every day closing meet.
"What is the description?" Jenny speaks up.
"Noting special. The usual stuff as we have always been doing. Its just that they have mentioned that it is very urgent and they have actually mentioned a deadline too. And its in two days." Neeraj speaks up, peering through the mail.
"Two days is actually less time. We will push out intern, put a separate team for that. That way we can achieve the target." Tarun suggests.
"That is a negative dude. We might have to start as of now itself. Work is the same but the quantity is humongous." Rajesh confirms, looking at the mail.
"That is a pickle now" Taurn heads to the desk, lighting up a cigarette.
"Rajesh, you cannot stay. I remember that Pallavi has an appointment today. she told me a week ago." Jenny points out.
"Oh yeah. That is there." Rajesh replies, rubbing his forehead.
"Tarun, if you agree maybe we two can stay the night, gain as much head start as possible. Tomorrow morning Rajesh and Neeraj can come a bit earlier and take over while head back to get some rest. And when our interns come, they can dump the rest to them." Jenny suggests.
"That sounds doable. Me and Rajesh can turn up her at 5-5.30 in the morning and relive you guys. Interns come at 8 anyway. So when they come, I will dump this to one team and I will take over their work. Rajesh can then go back to his part of projects. That way we will have least disturbance in work." Neeraj adds onto it, to which Rajesh nods.
"All right. Its settled then. Once we finish this meet, me and Jenny will start up on this assignment. You guys come tomorow morning at five and take over. And then we will come after lunch time, by that time, we will have gained considerable progress. So it should be pretty smooth" Tarun finalizes the plan. Once settling on the strategy, they continue the meet. By 9, they are done with the meet. Rajesh and Neeraj start for their homes, leaving Jenny and Tarun in the office.
"So what do you think we should do for dinner? Head for the nearest restaurant or order in?" Jenny asks, picking up her phone.
"I don't know. What do you think?" Tarun asks back, putting out his cigarette.
"Pizza or Chinese?"
"I will have Chinese"
"All right. I am in the mood for pizza. I will order Chinese for you". With the order for dinner away, Jenny and Tarun divert all their attention to the work. The pizza arrives in ten minutes. As soon as the pizza arrives, Tarun lunges for it, causing Jenny to chuckle . As he gobbles on his slice, catching the falling strings of cheese, Jenny decides to catch the moment. She swiftly takes her phone and clicks a picture of him catching the falling cheese. Oblivious to her actions, Tarun turns his attention to his Chinese food. Jenny also heads for her pizza, before Tarun finishes of her slices. After they finish, they head back to their work. While Jenny strategizes on the marketing aspect, Tarun furiously starts attacking the project on its specific parts where he specializes. Lighting and having a cigarette in his lips, he doesn't even lift up his head from the desktop. All the queries jenny asks in between, are answered with 'hmm' or in one word answers. Once Jenny finishes her strategy on the marketing part, she joins with Tarun over the project. But with Tarun's expertise and working speed, she keeps on falling behind and finds herself unable to keep up with him. In addition to it, Tarun plugs on his headphones and is now totally unavailable, in spite of sitting 5 feet away from her. Their communication is reduced to email, which gets replied with quick, small replies from Tarun.
"Jenny, Lets a small break. Lets go for a small walk." Tarun gets up, unplugging his headphones.
"Sounds good enough. What is the time by the way?" Jenny asks, arching in her chair.
"Its 3 am. Neeraj and Rajesh will come by 5.30. After coming from walk, you better take some rest. I don't want you exerting too much" Tarun replies, as he exits from the door. They both head to the silent roads, with just some beggers sleeping around. Tarun lights up a cigarette, as jenny walks, rubbing her arms.
"Here" Tarun says, wrapping his hoodie around her.
"Thank you Tarun." Jenny thanks him, wrapping it tightly around her. The thoughts in her mind, for the last couple months come gushing out as she inhales his scent on his hoodie.
"Tarun...we never talked and sorted out our stuff. I never got to apologize to you" Jenny starts the topic.
"I know. But its ok. I accepted your apology. Plus its not entirely your fault either. I got caught up with my growth that I neglected you. So its my fault too" Tarun replies, with the tone that he does not want to discuss this topic clearly floating in his voice. Jenny notices that too. But she decides against it, pressing on.
"Tarun, I am being haunted by our issue. And I know you are disturbed by it too. Only by talking it out, we can solve it." Jenny presses on the issue.
"What do you want talk over Jenny? As to how I pushed you to your mistake, or how you succumbed to it?
"Yes. I know we have had our own set of mistakes. But I think it is time to sort it out. We need to know where we both are. Because if we both are in the same place, then it does need resolving. If not, then we should move on." Jenny persists. Unable to reply, Tarun walks a bit ahead, flicking off his cigarette butt.
"You want to know where I am huh. All right. I am still in the same place. I never moved on. I still love you. I have had many girl friends in college. Some flings too. But I was never attached to any of them like I got attached to you. The day I came to know I lost you, I broke. I tried to move on. Neeraj and Rajesh tried relentlessly. My mother even invited her niece so that we both could talk and get to know each other. But I realized, that I could never ever love anybody else other than you. There is your explanation." Tarun finishes off, welling up in the end.
Listening to his confession, Jenny breaks into tears. Unable to bear, she runs up to him and hugs him from behind. Felling her grip tighten around him, Tarun turns around and hugs her back.
"I am very sorry that I put you through so much. I know you will never be able to apologize me fully, but if you give me one chance, I will try everything in my strength to gain back your trust, your love. Because Tarun, I love you too. I always felt myself attached to you on some level, even when I was married to that scumbag of manager. When he left me, I felt disgusting. That I cheated on you, who would never leave me, no matter how bad the situation got. So if you think I deserve one more chance, I will go to the corners of this world, to gain back your love." Jenny finishes pouring her heart out, sobbing onto his shirt. With the situation dawning up on him, he kisses her forehead and looks deep into her eyes and says
"I will always love you Jenny."
