I Have A Mate
Sonic's POV
The day was peaceful, blue skies and hazy white clouds crossed said skies in a race to the horizon. I sat down on the fresh green grass that bathed Green Hill like an ocean, a spectator to the race above my head. A light tap to my shoulder snapping me out of my gaze and onto the cheerful souls accompanying me on my outing.
I turned to my right to find that one of my best friends, Tails, was the one who had tried to gain my lost attention and succeed. I smiled at the sheer amount of joy he flashed in his smile, currently laughing at a joke Knuckles had made about our past encounter. Sadly, i hadn't heard a word of it.
"Uh... Yeah... Heheh, what were we talking about?" I asked with a nervous chuckle. Knuckles curiously raising a questioning brow at my disoriented state. Luckily i was pulled out of answering his incoming question when Rouge, and more importantly, Shadow, walked up to the bickering group of friends picnicking atop the green pastures.
"Sorry we're late, Mr. Sunshine over there gave me a little trouble in getting him to come along." She apologized pointing an opposing thumb in his direction, causing everyone to send a short glance glace his way. Only to get a simple 'hmph' from the ebony hedgehog as he proceeded to distance himself from the rest of the group.
Rouge shook her head with a disapproving smirk and found herself a seat atop the large baby blue blanket the others were currently sharing. Silver and Blaze sharing their own pink quilt for which Silver was previously insulted on earlier.
My mind went blank, completely forgetting my companions as i gazed at Shadow, remembering our... Past life. I took my eyes away from him as i began to stray in thought, placing a subconscious hand on the claim mark that had already been fading for oh, so long.
So much so that it had already blended with my cobalt fur. I felt a diminutive pain in my chest, causing my ears to lower slightly. But not enough to alarm the others.
Then, the rude awakening. It felt like being squeezed by one of Eggman's Egg Pawns. No, worse. My eyes widened when i realized i was having trouble breathing. "A-Ames! I- can't b-reath!" I cried out, wrapped in one of Amy's signature death hugs.
"Oh! I'm sorry Sonikku! I just wanted to tell you an idea i had!" She beamed a little too excitedly.
"What if we had our date here on Green Hill? It's your favorite place! And it could be more romantic than that restaurant i wanted you to take me to! We could set up our blanket, and you could tell me how much you love me under the sunset~ it'll be so romantic!" Amy continued to swoon over her own imagination.
She continued to babble on about us being together and i tried my utmost best to drown out the high pitch squealing she kept letting out. But that wasn't what finally made me snap, it was the statement before the last that did. "Love you!? Amy i dont love you!" I shouted, making a scene. I felt bad, but i didn't care for my harsh words to her at the moment.
I so hated the way she always swooned over and chased me, i hated when she did it in public. And most importantly, i hated it when she did it in front of him. Especially with the depressing mood that had settled into my very soul when he finally came back to me... And still can't remember who i am. I just can't go on ignoring and running from her anymore. "Sure i love you like a little sister, but i don't t love you! And I'm never going to go on a date with you! Would you just get that through your head? Im sick of it!" I continued even when her tears started to overflow, the pain of hearing her hero deny her so harshly. So much so that i don't think that I've ever shouted at her like this... Ever...
But before i could even continue to voice my frustrations, Silver decided to cut me short. And i just watched as Amy bolted away in a distressing fit, muttering incoherently at the dissatisfaction of finally accepting being turned down, or so i hoped at least.
"Sonic, maybe that's enough. I think she gets it, you're not interested. But did you have to be so harsh?" Silver voiced over my thoughts. "Harsh? Silver have you even met Amy?" Knuckles retorted, and those two statements alone started another argument of whether it was necessary to speak to her the way i did.
"Everyone stop! What's done is done... There's no taking it back, I'm sorry, alright?" And then, the question i dreaded so much hit me like a punch to the stomach.
"Sonic, why won't you just go on one date with her? In fact, I've never even seen you date anyone." Rouge quizzed, much to my dismay. Now everyone was looking my way, even Shadow seemed interested in the conversation now. I looked to the ground as if asking it to answer the question for me, then to Knuckles, who was as horrified and worried as i was. He being the only other besides my family who knew. Then i took one last glance at the awaiting crowd that seemed to grow more impatient every passing second. I'm not going to lie to them. No, I'm not going to lie to myself anymore.
