Chapter 9

Later that day Duri sat a table in her favorite burger place waiting for Taeyeon to show up. He was always running late. While she waited she let her mind wander. She couldn't stop thinking about how well she slept last night. Insomnia had made it difficult to sleep after the accident. The doctor had said something about a side effect of her concussion and amnesia. Last night, however; she slept all the way through the night. That good kind of sleep where you fall asleep and feel like you wake up two minutes later but it's actually been 8 hours. She couldn't help but think being near Minho was the reason.

"Duri!" She heard his voice from across the room and stood up as he came closer. "I missed yoooouuuuu!" He said hugging her.

"I missed you too." She laughed, "I ordered us food. I figured you'd be late and I was starving."

"You're the best!" He said excitedly sitting down, "So, how's the train wreck of a marriage going?"

"It's not a train wreck." Duri said looking honestly at her friend across the table as he looked at her like she'd lost her mind.

"Are you crazy? Last month you were sleeping on my couch for three days to avoid him. Now, you're what? You're friends now or something? Yeah right." He rolled his eyes as their food was set down in front of them.

Duri didn't know what to say, so she didn't say anything as she looked down at her plate. Usually she'd be scarfing this burger down like she hadn't eaten in a month, but Taeyeon's attitude made her suddenly lose her appetite.

"Oh. My. God. Duri." Tae said as he put his burger down and stared at her with wide eyes. "You're in love with him." He blurted out.

"Maybe." She asked quietly, "why is that so bad?"

"Because of the way he's treated you! Did you forget? Do you still have some sort of amnesia lingering around? He has been nothing but awful to you since day one!" He said slightly raising his voice.

"Have you not been listening to me the last few weeks at all? We're trying to make it work." She said starting to get upset. She balled her hands into fists in her lap. How could he have not listened to anything she'd been telling him. All she did was talk about Miho and their relationship.

"I thought you were joking! Or maybe that it was just a phase, never once did I think you were serious!" He yelled. They were making a scene now, people were starting to notice as Tae yelled loudly at her.

"Why don't you want me to be happy?! People can change, he's been through a lot." She said standing up and throwing her napkin back down on the table.

"He's poisioned you, Duri. You're crazy." He said standing up too. "He's just going to use you!"

"How, Tae!? I'm already married to him!" She yelled back. "I can't believe you." She said into Tae's face. "You don't know him the way I do, and you haven't taken an opprotunity to either." She seethed.

"I don't want to! Guys like that can't and shouldn't be trusted." He said lowering his voice and grinding his teeth.

"Weren't you the one that told me to be positive about this whole situation?" She glared at him. Tae had been the one who told her that maybe having an arranged marriage wouldn't be so bad. He was the one who had convinced her that instead of running away from it, she should give it a try. Now that she's taking his advice he wants to crap all over it.

"Screw you." She said finally fed up, shaking her head. She grabbed her glass of ice water from the table and threw it in Tae's face. He took a sharp breath of air as the ice water hit his skin, and stood there frozen as Duri started to walk away.

"You're going to regret staying with him. Don't say I didn't warn you." He yelled to her back as she left, she didn't bother looking back. There was no point. She and Minho had been working hard to get where they were in their relationship and if Tae refused to see that, there was nothing she do.

She was fuming as she left the restaurant and walked back to her car in the parking garage nearby. They had been best friends since the beginning of high school. Tae had always been there for her through thick and thin, no matter what. He had never asked questions and had a blind faith that whatever Duri decided was what was right for her. Until now. Now he's decided to tell her how to think and feel.

She got in car and decided before she went home she needed to clear he head. She didn't know where she was going, but just driving around sounded like a good idea. She didn't want to go home feeling like this and end up starting something with Minho for no reason. Before she knew it, it was 9:30 pm, and finally headed home.

Walking in the house it was dark, except for a light coming from the dining room. Looking for Minho, she entered the dining room to see two plate of cold food sitting on the table. Her heart dropped as she realized she'd promised him she'd be home for dinner. She leaned against the door frame and stared at the table silently kicking herself for not being home in time. "Damnit" She mumbled. Just when they were starting to really like each other she goes and screws it all up.

She disappointedly walked up the stairs and knocked on Minho's door and hoped that he'd answer, she could hear him moving around inside.

"Minho, please open the door. I'm so sorry." She said to the door, but he still didn't open the door. The tears in her eyes started hitting her cheeks as she knocked one more time. "Please Minho...."

He had no intention of opening the door. He'd sat at the table and waited for over an hour until he gave up. He had really thought that maybe things were improving between them. He didn't like Taeyeon. He knew that he didn't like him and was always worried that he'd turn Duri against him somehow. Maybe he was being a bit immature thinking that way, but things were as fragile as a piece of tissue right now and just the slightest bit of pressure would rip right though. When he heard her call his name the second time he could tell she was crying. That was when all of his willpower and disappointment hurled themselves out of the window.

He slowly started to open the door and saw Duri standing there with tears running down hear face. She pushed the door the rest of the way open and threw her arms around his neck. Shocked he didn't move at first, then loosening up and wrapped his arm around her waist and melted into her.

"I'm sorry, Minho!" She said as she cried into his chest.

"It's ok..." He said unsure.

"No, I got in a huge fight with Tae and then I ended up just driving around to clear my head and I lost track of time. I wanted to be here." She sniffed loudly as Minho rubbed her back.

"Are you ok?" He asked as she started to pull away. She looked down and shook her head. His entire guard fell down when she said no. "Come here." He whispered as he led her into the room and she crawled into his bed and laid down.

"What happened?" He asked after she made herself comfortable next to him and laid her head down on his chest sniffing loudly.

"Tae just doesn't get it. He doesn't understand how far you and I have come since we first got married. He just decided he hates you and nothing is going to change his mind."

"It's ok, Duri" Minho said as he played with her hair. "I never expected him to like me. I was an asshole to you. He's being defensive of you because he cares."

She nodded slowly "I know, but now I'm telling him he doesn't need to be that way and he's just...stuck or something. I'm happy isn't that a good enough reason?"

"I would think so, but I'm sure he has his reasons." He explained softly.

"I'm really sorry. I was looking forward to dinner. I had every intention of coming back and eating with you." She whispered into the dark room.

"It's fine. I figured you had a good reason."

"Liar" she said looking up at him "You didn't want to even open the door to talk to me." She pouted.

"I was a little disappointed." He smiled down at her, "But you're here now."

"Can I sleep here tonight?" she mumbled as she snuggled down further into the blankets.
He felt his heart swell, "You don't need to ask, Duri. You can stay anytime you want." He whispered.

"I'm so sorry..." She mumbled again just before she fell asleep.

"Stop apologizing...we're ok." He whispered.
She slowly nodded her head one last time before he started to hear her breathing even out. He tightened his arm around her waist and closed his eyes sleep took him too.

Minho was nervous. He didn't know why he was, things had been going really well between them. She'd slept in his room every single night the last week. He had to admit it felt good to have her so close. He wanted to take her out, they didn't leave the house much together. He took a deep breath before he walked into the living room where Duri was watching TV and sat down next to her.

"You never watch TV" she laughed looking at him oddly.

"Maybe I wanna start." He looked back at her just with the same expression on his face.

"Ok?" She said laughing.

"Ok, fine. You got me" He gave up and turned to face her.

"Then what's going on?" She asked her face now laced with worry. I couldn't blame her, we seemed to hit every single pothole in the road so far.

He felt his cheeks flush as he thought about what to say. He didn't know why he was so damn nervous, what was she going to say? No?

"Earth to Minho?" She joked waving a hand in front of his face. He rolled his eyes at her and turned his head to the side and looked at her. "Yeah. Ok." He laughed and playfully knocked her hand out of the way. "I wanna take you out on a date. God, that sounds stupid. Sorry, I didn't mean to make this so weird. I-"

He stopped mid sentence as she jumped across the couch and wrapped her arms around his neck. "YES!" He laughed loudly and wrapped both arms around her as she crawled into his lap and got comfortable.

"Are you comfortable?" He joked as she refused to move.

"Yes, thank you." She said glancing at him before turning her attention back to the television.

"DURI!" Minho yelled into the kitchen as Jae cooked breakfast. Their first date was tonight and while Minho was nervous, he could tell Duri was too. The unexpected chaos in the kitchen must have been a result of their mutual nerves.

"Come and get it!" She yelled back as they chased each other around the kitchen island. He was determined to get his waffle back. He didn't have time to make another one. They were on either end of the kitchen island staring at each other, ready to launch themselves at any moment, as Duri held the waffle in the air like it was a prize.

"OW!" She yelled suddenly realizing she'd been holding the hot waffle in one hand for too long. It fell onto the counter and Minho pounced on it and shoved it in his mouth before she could take it again.

"Ha! Mine!" He laughed victoriously.

"Aw man." She said pretending to pout. He loved it when she made that face, her bottom lip would stick out a little and her brows would knit together. She looked like a little kid that didn't get the candy they wanted.

"There's more waffles in the freezer you know. Not to mention, I could just make some. I don't know why you two are fighting over that one." Jae said shaking her head. "It's burned."

"I like it that way." Minho shrugged as he turned to look at Jae. She rolled her eyes and went back to what she was doing. "I gotta go" he said

"Wait." Duri said moving to stand in front of him. She got up on her tip toes and kissed Minho quickly before he walked out the door.

"What was that for?" He asked, he was never going to get used to that.

"Have a good day." She said reaching up and ruffling his hair. He smiled at her and leaned down to kiss her one more time before he left.

"Mmmm" Jae Woo said after he'd walked out the door. Duri smiled at her "What?"

"I knew it, I knew you two would figure it out eventually." She said giving Duri a knowing smile.

"He's taking me out on a date later. I guess when you end up in an arranged marriage you get married first then date." Jae Woo smiled at her. She knew Duri had been through alot in the last six months, but also knew that Minho had been through just as much in the last few years. Seeing the two of them happy together was all she'd ever wanted for them both.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to find a dress to wear." She said spinning on her heel to go back upstairs.

"It's 8 am! Aren't you getting started a little early?" Jae Woo laughed as she started the dishes.

"Hey, looking good takes time, Jae. You know this!" She said over her shoulder as she excitedly ran upstairs.
