Chapter 7

Three days later Duri snuck back in the dark house only to see Minho sitting at the island eating ice cream. He looked exhausted, it seemed he hadn't slept much in the past few days. At first he didn't hear her until the door clicked shut. His head popped up and his eyes grew wide.

She wasn't sure what to say when she saw him, so she walked past him and headed towards the stairs. She heard him walking behind her and she turned around.

"Please just let me explain...please Duri?" He asked. In the hallway light she could see just how bad off he was. His eyes were red and his whole face was puffy. There was still a part of her that wanted to run to him and hug him and tell him how she felt, but with her memory now fully intact she was having a hard time looking past what he'd done those first two months.

"I remember, Minho." She said quietly, "Everything." She looked down at her feet as he walked closer to her.

"You remember......everything..." He repeated. He thought for a moment, desperately wanting to tell her why. "Please, there was a reason. It's not a good one, and it's not one that makes anything better, but please. Just give me that, please just let me explain myself."

"I just need some time, Minho" She mumbled.  He couldn't go back to the way things were, he'd already fallen in love with her. All he wanted was to go back to that night on couch when she fell asleep on his shoulder. He knew he should have told her sooner, but he never expected that he'd love her the way he does in such a short amount of time. Minho nodded his head and turned to walk away.

"Wait." She quickly blurted out. He turned back around and looked at her, she could tell he was trying not to look hopeful. "Why did you do it?"

"There was an infidelity clause in our marriage contract." He said.

"What?" She said crossing her arms confused.

"I figured if I made it look like I was cheating you'd tell your parents. I knew you were just as unhappy as I was in all this. I wanted to give you an out."

"What do you mean 'made it look like'?" She paused. He was faking all of it?

"I never slept with any of them, and I wasn't actually as drunk as I made it look. I wanted you to have the life you wanted with who you wanted."

Duri's head was spinning "Why didn't my parents tell me?" She asked confused. She knew now that her parents marriage was not ideal. It wasn't even civil most of the time, they never spoke to each other and lived like roommates more then people who were married. As far as she knew they weren't even friends. Duri had grown up always wanting what her parents never had and they ended up basically selling her into the same situation. Her father hated that business. He hated every moment of it, ever since the day he took over from his father when Duri was 8 years old. So why bother saving something you don't like.

"Because they originally didn't want us to know. Your father put it in there so that you wouldn't be stuck in a loveless marriage like he was. That's what he told me anyway. I'm sorry, Duri." He said leaning against the small table in the hallway. "I wish I'd just gotten to know you from the start. I just wasn't ready...not after...nevermind" He shook his head and she could tell he felt bad about it all, but she never expected him to have had such a valid reason. "I went about it the wrong way, I know that now. I just hope that someday you'll forgive me."

She nodded her head silently, "Good night, Minho" She said quietly as she walked away. He stood there and hoped that it wouldn't be the last time he saw her. The only thing he could do now was wait, and hope she'd give him a second chance. He shook his head hoping to clear it enough to sleep as he went upstairs to his room.

A few days later, Duri was laying on the couch as Jae Woo dusted the living room. It certainly didn't need it, but she seemed to be enjoying herself.

"Jae?" Duri asked while Jae was dusting the shelf next to her.

"Yes sweetie?" She asked sweetly.

"Who is Choa?" She heard Jae suddenly stop what she was doing.

"Oh boy" she replied, "I figured you wanna know sooner or later." She came around the end of the couch and sat down as Duri put her head in her lap.

"I heard the two of you talking about her, and I figured I just didn't remember who she was, but now that I have all my memories back I still don't know."

"I don't know if I should even tell you. Minho should probably be the one to do that..."

"Well, Minho and I are kind of not talking right now." She said looking up at Jae.

"All I can say is that she was very special to him, and when......well....he hasn't really been the same little boy I helped raise."

"What was he like as kid?" Duri asked realizing she probably wasn't going to get much more about Choa out of Jae Woo.

"Oh he loved music. He'd dance all over the house day and night. His mom put him dance classes. He was our little dancing gem." She smiled, "He danced until....well, about three years ago. He was a trainee with JYP, he even made it into a group and debuted, but he ended up leaving the company."

"Like a Kpop IDOL trainee?!" She asked sitting up and looking at Jae Woo in shock. "Are we talking about the same person?"

Jae laughed and nodded her head, "He was very, very good, Duri. He always looked so incredibly happy when he was performing. He loved that group more then anything, except Choa. That was the great love of his life. He fell apart after her."

"What group was he in?" Duri wanted to know about this version of Minho. Maybe she had the wrong idea about him. She couldn't picture the man she knew dancing, singing, or performing. A Kpop Idol? She started to think that maybe Jae was playing a trick on her and was going to tell her 'just kidding!' at any moment, but she didn't.

"Stray Kids I think it was called. His mother and I were so proud, his father didn't understand why he'd want to do that for a living, but I think he supported him in his own way."

"Oh...." Duri said as Jae Woo got up and got back to work. "Thank you, Jae" she said as she got up and went to her room.

She immediately pulled out the laptop she'd kept at Taeyeon's and pulled up YouTube. Looking for anything she could find that would prove Jae Woo wasn't lying to her.

"Oh. My. God......" She whispered as pages upon pages of videos pulled up. She had heard of the group before but it wasn't one she had ever really listened to. "Lee Know.....that's what you picked as a stage name?" She laughed to herself.

She watched several older music videos before she pulled up one that seemed like it was Minho dancing by himself.

After the video, she sat back on her bed in shock for a moment before clicking on another one that had Minho and two of the other members dancing together.

She was going to watch another before she heard Minho coming up the stairs. "oh crap." She said as she closed her laptop, he wasn't even coming into her room, but she was afraid that he'd hear the music through the door. As soon has she heard his bedroom door shut, she connected her airpods and dived further down into Minho's past as an idol.

She wasn't star struck. That's not was kept pulling her into video after video. It was that she got to see a glimpse of what Minho was really like. She saw the little side smirk she loved, she could hear his laugh, she could see how much he loved the other members and how much they had meant to him. She saw him be a playful, goofy, happy human being. A side of him that she'd only briefly seen a glimpse of before she got her memory back.

Her heart started to ache the more she watched. At this point, she was starting to find fewer and fewer reason to keep giving him the silent treatment. He'd been very respectful the last week giving her the time she needed and keeping his distance. Though she knew it was probably really hard for him. She decided there was just one last thing she needed to know. Who was Choa and what about her made him give up something that he seemed to so dearly love....
