Percy's POV

I looked at Annabeth. It had taken her about twenty minutes to get back to sleep. I had an arm around her, and had been trying to get to sleep, but my mind seemed to think that sleep was the worst thing ever.

I had agreed to wake her up if I couldn't sleep, but now I was hesitant to do so. Why should I stop her from going to sleep just because I'm afraid of going to sleep?

No, I could manage to stay still for a couple of hours and then pretend to be asleep when she wakes up. I buried my face in her hair and closed my eyes.

About two and a half hours later, Annabeth started thrashing around and screaming.

"Annabeth," I said. "Annabeth, wake up. Annabeth!" She didn't wake up or stop thrashing. I shook her awake, getting smacked a couple of times in the process.

Annabeth woke up, and shot up, looking around frantically. It pained me to see so much fear and pain in her eyes.

She spotted me, and then visibly relaxed a bit.  "Percy...Oh thank gods... You're alive, it was just a dream..." she grabbed me and hugged me, gripping me tightly.  She cried, and it broke my heart.

I wrapped my arms around her comfortingly, letting her squeeze the life out of me.

"How do you do it?" I asked quietly.

Annabeth looked at me, waiting for me to clarify what I meant.

"How do you go to sleep every night, when you know you're going to get these nightmares?"  Annabeth thought for a couple of moments silently.

"Because it makes me look forward to waking up more," Annabeth replied.

I sighed.  "You have a rather optimistic view on this."

"If I didn't, I would never have gotten this far.  When I wake up, you're around to comfort me, just as I am for you.  I know that you will be with my through anything, just as I will for you.  Why don't you ever ask me for help when you need it?"

"It's complicated..." I said.

"I'm willing to try and understand," Annabeth said.  "You know you can tell me anything, right? That you can ask me anything?"

I hesitated for a second.  "Then I have a question."

She waited expectantly.

"What's your sexuality?" I asked.

She looked mildly surprised by the question, but answered it anyway.  "I'm bi," she said. "Why?"

I'm sure that I visibly relaxed mostly.  "Just wondering."

Her grey eyes studied me curiously, but she didn't push me.  If wish that I could see inside her head.  How does she decide when to push me for an answer and when not to?

It probably came naturally as a daughter of Athena or something, but I couldn't help but wish that my power had been brains instead of water powers.  How useful are super powerful water powers of I'm too stupid to even think straight?

Then again, I'm not straight, so why should my thoughts be?

I should leave that stuff to Annabeth, even if she is bi.  Wait. Does that mean her thoughts are only partially straight? Like, straight half the time?  Maybe her thoughts are bent.  She does have ADHD, but not as bad as mine or Leo's.  Is that because she's only half gay?  Wait, if Leo's ADHD is bad, does that mean that he is gay?  No, he's with Calypso.  And Nico's ADHD isn't all that bad, and he's a shadowy Italian rainbow. Well, there goes that theory.  ADHD level is not equal to the gayness level.

Good to know...
But I was able to come to some kind of conlusion, so even without thinking straight I could figure something out!  I went in, like, a complete circle!  Take that, brain! I'm not as dumb as you thought I was!

I zoned back in, because I hadn't actually been paying attention to anything around me during all of that.  Annabeth was watching me.

"Why are you staring at me?" I asked, frowning.

"You were lost in thought. Ever since...T-Tartarus...You have been kind of closed off.  I can never tell how you feel very easily anymore because we're both always so busy. You're always training the campers, which is great and all, but I think we should leave for a while. Take a break."

I suddenly felt guilty. Had I really been that distant lately? Had I really been so caught up in my own problems that I didn't notice that she had been feeling like this?

"I'm sorry," I said. "I'll try to make some time so we can spend some time together. We can go on a date, or even just talk."

"It's okay, Percy," she said quietly.  "It's very unhealthy for you, keeping all this bottled up. You can tell me anything, though I understand that you need time."

"Thank you." I smiled slightly, hugging her close.

"I love you, Percy."

"I love you, too, Wise Girl."

~•~Timeskip 'cause I'm lazy~•~

The next day, after I spent some time in the arena and trained some campers, I left a bit early.  I knew that Annabeth would be in her cabin, reading a book, because I had convinced a half brother of hers to get me a copy of her schedule.

After taking a shower (because I smelled like sweat. Why don't matter powers count for sweat, too?), I walked to the Athena cabin.

I burst open the doors. Immediately, I had at least ten campers with their weapons at my neck, and the rest just had theirs out, thinking I was some kind of monster or something.

I just raised a hand casually and waved.  "Hi."

The Athena campers lowered their weapons, glaring at me.  The Athena kids don't like to be scared.

Annabeth, who had now put back her sword, shook her head at me, amused.

"I'm sorry to disturb everyone," I said, as if I hadn't just burst through the door in a very distracting way.  "I hope that you're not busy, Wise Girl, because I've got something special planned!"

Annabeth grinned at me.  "I'm free for the next two hours, though I'm pretty sure you already know that."

"Yup!  Now let's go!"

"Okay," she said.  "But let me get ready first."

"Okay."  I walked out and waited for her outside of the Athena cabin.

She came out of the cabin about five minutes later, wearing a pale purple dress that was comfortable and a good length for her to be able to move in if she needed to.  She had her sword hidden somewhere, I was sure if it.  She also had on boots that went up to her knees.

I was suddenly hit by three feelings.  The first was love and amazement at how beautiful she looked. The second was slight jealousy that she could wear that so freely when I couldn't, because I was stuck pretending to be a guy.  And the third was built for feeling that jealousy.

I pushed all of this out of my mind and took Annabeth's hand.  "Let's go," I said with a smile.  "Let's go outside of camp for a while.  There's a lake I know."

She smiled back at me, holding my hand.  "A lake.  Of course."

"It's a restaurant at a lake. I reserved a table, and the view is great.  We can go swimming afterwards if you'd like."

"I would love to, though maybe we should do the swimming first.  Swimming after eating causes cramps, you know."

"I don't know if that happens to sons of Poseidon."  I mentally winced as I said 'sons,' as I always do.  "Or their girlfriends."

"You're not the son of a pain god, Percy," Annabeth said. "I'm pretty sure we'll still get cramps."

I gave in. We went swimming first.

After we went swimming, we went into the restaurant. We missed the reservation because Annabeth was once again smarter than me, but we still got a pretty good view.  We ordered our food, but it still didn't get here yet.  I was getting kind of hungry...

It was thirty minutes before any food for here.  I was trying to think of the best way to tell Annabeth that I'm a girl.  Shortly after the food finally came (the place was so crowded... I swear, it seemed like it took hours), the plan popped into my head.  Now, all I needed was the courage.

That would be the challenging part.
