68: Shopping spree
the group was seperated and while Steven, Greg and Amethyst entertained Andy for the time being, Pearl, Garnet, Peridot, Lapis, and Labraorite went shopping for traditional things.
"I have a list about human traditions i learned about through my many human friends!" Labradorite said proudly as she summoned a notebook.
"really?" Lapis was the first to look over her shoulder at the shorter blue gem.
"that makes our job a whole lot easier!" Peridot said, happy to make this trip as quick as it possibly can.
"yes, that's very useful, Labradorite." Pearl smiled, patting Labradorite's head, making the paler blue gem smile. "thank you, Pearl!" Labradorite thanks chirperly as she reviewed her notes.
"now it's best we get a reservation to pick up a cake sooner than later considering they take a bit of time to get done..."
--
"oh Peridot, what do you think of this?"
Peridot looked up from her tablet and squinted with a hum. Peridot got up and fixed the bow tied onto Labradorite chest before backing up.
Peridot stared for a good long while before speaking. "change that into one of these." Peridot showed Labradorite her tablet which had a Suit pulled up on it.
Peridot pointed to the tie on the suit like it were a diagram.
"Okay!" Labradorite went back into the dressing room and came out moments later now with a dark blue tie.
Peridot looked Labradorite up and down repeatedly before walking back up to her.
"Something isnt right..." Peridot muttered, looking at the suit then looking at the pale blue gem. Periodt grabbed Labradorite's tie and tucked it into her vest. "there!"
Labradorite smiled and did a twirl in the outfit, just as Lapis walked into the dressing room to ask what was taking so long.
Lapis gave Labradorite one glance, two glances, before Peridot piped up. "oh Lapis, I was just about to consule you, what do you think?" Peridot asked, gesturing to Labadorite.
Lapis was silent for a few minutes, most likely analysing Labradorite, before she lifted her hand in a thumbs up.
"oh really? I though you didnt like change?" Labradorite commented, putting her hands on her hips and tilting her head, wondering what had changed.
"well... this is a nice change. you should wear those more often" Lapis said, looking away as Labradorite beamed at the taller gem.
---
"This looks wrong..." Labradorite said after looking at the wedding cake that was just given to her.
"It's fine?" Greg said, not seeing what Labradorite was going on about, it was a normal three layer wedding cake with a complementary topper to boot. "we can fix it in the Van, you know-" Greg was sharply cut off by Peridot.
"It is wrong!" Peridot plucked the two toppers from the cake, smudging the icing a bit. "these arent supposed to be together!" Peridot said loudly in the middle of the store, getting odd stares for a moment.
"I think I can fix this." Labradorite says, summoning two extra toppers and grabbing the two toppers from Peridot's grip, placing the toppers back on the cake, two bride toppers on the tope ofthe cake and the two male toppers put on the bottom. "Fixed!"
--
"that should be tucked in, you know." Pearl commented after a mostly silent ride, pointing at Labradorite's tie.
"well I like it like that!" Peridot immediately prickled, turning to look at Pearl in the passenger seat while holding the three layer cake in her lap.
"Peridot, I am just saying the proper way to wear a tie or a suit in general is to tuck it into the vest." Pearl reached over the seat to tuck in Labradorite's tie into her vest.
"well what does Labby think?" Peridot turned to the source of the arguement, sitting between Lapis, who was by the door, and Garnet, in the middle.
"... I perfer bowties." Labradorite said, offering a helpless shrug. Peridot looked in disbelief.
"then why'd you get a tie tie!?" Peridot asked, Labradorite shrugged once more.
"...I wanted to try something new." she mutters quietly.
"well, Lapis, what do you think, is it better tucked in or out?" Pearl asked
"well i think it was fine the was it was-"
Greg was cut off by Peridot.
"No one asked for your input-!" Peridot was cut off by Pearl.
"No no, let a human give his input, maybe you could learn a thing or two." Pearl not so subtly nudged Peridot.
"thank you Pearl." Greg thanked, keeping his eyes on the road, fed up with being cut off.
"As I was saying, it's fine if you wear it either way, but to look more refined you can wear the tie tucked in." Greg explained, rolling the R in refined.
"Right," Pearl started. "Since this is quite an important event, you should tuck the tie into your vest."
Peridot started to bicker again to prove her point, until Garnet placed her hand on Peridot's head, halting her lunge at Pearl's face.
"now now, let's settle down." Garnet said as she then turned to Labradorite. "Labradorite, how would you like to wear it?" Garnet asked, patiently smiling at the forced fusion. Labradorite looked at the tie, fiddling with it subtly.
"I think... I'll keep the tie out." Labradorite said, making Peridot immediately give an aggressive laugh to pearl with a point before quieting when Garnet went to look at her.
there was no more time to argue fore, Greg had pulled up to the barn and parked. Pearl left the car starting to address Andy, who was surpisingly still here, as the others began to unload the van of groceries.
"we heard you like marriage, so we thought why dont we all marry each other!" Pearl said as Peridot brandished the cake with a ta-da and Labradorite fixed a male topper that had fell over.
Andy's face turned into a grimace at the sight of the cake.
"and if that isnt human enough for you we can throw in a little being born," Pearl gestured over to Garnet, who had a light blue balloon that said 'it's a boy!' in dark blue letters. "and some dying!" Lapis brought over the gravestone with Andy's name on it.
"we are very sorry for your marrige." Lapis says, handing over the grave stone.
"we tried to cover as many celebrations in the human life span as we could." Pearl says with a smile as she pressed her hands together.
Steven was sweating horribly as Amethyst gave a "nice!" and Pumpkin rumbled in agreement.
"oh boy..." Steven whispered expecting something bad as he looked up at his Uncle Andy who was still holding the tombstone.
Andy looked and stared before clasping a hand on his face and laughing. "okay okay, I give up." Andy laughed before taking off his hat. "alright, where am I sittin?"
Fun fact: Seriously where does Labradorite get this money?
