5: keystone motel part 2
Steven entered the room, any warmth he felt before had been stripped away as the room had looked and felt like a refrigerator, Steven shivered and put the towel over himself as he had saw his own breath.
"S-Sapphire?" Steven said looking at the source for the below freezing temperatures. "Hello Steven." Sapphire spoke bearly reacting to the freezing boy. "A-are you... d-d-doin' okay?" The boy asked tilting his head like a wet puppy.
"I'm fine." Sapphire spoke, ice forming on the walls behind her. "O-okay." Steven responded, walking over to the cold bed that he once bounced on.
Steven jumped on the bed like a worm and sat down. "W-Wanna watch TV together?" The boy asked, noticing the remote on the bed. "Sure." Sapphire responded not moving from her spot on the opposite bed.
Steven picked up the remote and clicked through the channels. "Huh. The channels are all the wrong numbers." Steven commented. "Hey, cam you use your future powers to predict what channel I'd love the most?" Steven asked turning over over the blue gem.
Sapphire hummed. "...43 but there's not much on." Sapphire predicted as Steven changed the channel to the number.
Steven feeling the temperatures drop, grabbed the blanket of the bed and cuddled it, shivering lightly, as more ice began to form around the blue gem. "Hey Sapphire..." Steven said, about to ask something.
"Even if I do, Ruby won't listen." Sapphire responded even before Steven asked the question. "Huh?" Steven asked, unaware of what Sapphire is talking about.
"You're going to say I should talk to Ruby, but it won't help." Sapphire responded, turning to the boy. "B-but she seems really upset." Steven said one of his eyes getting droopy.
"That doesn't matter. We can't stay mad at Pearl forever, and she can't stay mad at me forever, and then she'll come back and see that I'm right." Sapphire said, quick to respond.
"A-a-are you s-sure?" Steven asked, ice crystals forming on his face and hair.
"I can see the path of fate as it stretches toward the horizon. Ruby can't avoid the inevitable. She's just letting her emotions get out of hand." Sapphire said.
"N-n-not you, though?" Steven shivered.
"No." She replied more ice forming around her.
"I'm... going to the bathroom." Steven said getting out of the blanket. "Also inevitable." Sapphire said as Steven opened the bathroom door.
"Uh, Sapphire," he came into the door way. "The toilets frozen." Steven spoke, shivering. "Such is a fate." Was all Sapphire said.
"Am I fated to pee outside on the grass, too?" Steven sarcastically asked, exiting the freezing room before Sapphire could respond. "Yes." Sapphire said seemingly to the empty room around her filled with ice.
"Keystone State..." Steven grumbled as he walked down the sidewalk as a light shown on him and the van parked in its spot like before. Steven stayed put and stared at the vehicle as the driver door to the van opened.
"Hey, stu-ball, I brought dinner." Greg said showing the boy a boxed pizza, Steven smiled wearily.
"Hey, dad. How'd it go?" Steven asked as Greg closed the door.
"Well, he wasn't an axe murder, so that was good. What are you doing outside in your bathing suit? And where's Garnet?"
Greg asked his son, looking around for the tall fusion, whom has split. Greg opened the door to the room, Sapphire was there still facing forward.
"He's not going to like that it's square." She simply said, turning to the man. "Oh, boy. Where's the other one?" Greg asked his son, who was holding the pizza box, closing the door to the room. "She pacing around in what used to be the pool." Steven pointed at the red gem pacing in the long evaporated pool.
"Somethings pretty serious must be going on if it made Garnet split up." Greg spoke, sitting on the floor of the back of the van Steven hopping in after him. "But hey, we can still have a good time." Greg said opening the pizza box to show...
"Square pizza?! What's wrong with this crazy state?!" Steven yelled, his hands on his head like a lunatic. "Son there will come a time in you life when you learn to accept all pizza." Greg said his eyes earning sparkles as Steven took a slice.
"Why can't Ruby and Sapphire just make up?" Steven asked his father. "Sometimes people that love eachother can hurt eachother's feelings without meaning to." Greg said. "We should just give them some space." He spoke.
"But I think they'd work it out if they just talked to eachother." Steven said. "Everything Will be better in the morning, we'll all go to the best diner in the world, where they'll eat the best breakfast in the world." Greg said excitedly.
"You think that'll help?" Steven asked looking up at his father. "Nothing like a little breakfast to bring people together." Greg said grabbing a slice of pizza. "You really are my favorite dad." Steven said, looking up at the sky. "I knew this pizza would put me over the top." Greg muttered.
A voice giggled airily as they laid on their stomach on the top of the tube brushes, two pairs of eyes looking down at the father and son, their hands propping their head up as a gentle smile stretched across their face.

Greg whistled while looking out the window awkwardly as Sapphire sat right across from him, staring ahead, Steven sat next to him balancing a spoon on his nose, and Ruby sat next to Sapphire, her head on the table still ticked off, as all of them sat in the red colored booth.
A waitress walked up to them and placed their food down, to which Greg and Steven thanked the woman. Ruby looked at the dish placed infront of her.
"Whats the matter? not hungry?" Greg asked. "Gems don't need to eat, dad." Steven reminded his father, placing an egg on his toast. "Eh, well Garnet likes to eat sometimes." Greg reasons, but was interrupted by Ruby, whom let out a short yell as her eyes welled with tears.
"UGH! Well Garnet not here!" Ruby exaggerated, sinking into the booth, arms crossed. Steven took a bite out of his egg, staring at the two on the other side then at his father who hummed.
"Oh, boy! This really is the best diner in the world!" Greg said, sweating at the tension starting in the booth. Steven stabbed the rest of his egg on the fork and noticed the table was shaking.
"You're shaking the table." Sapphire spoke, facing the red gem, whom was shaking the table with her head on it. "Oh?!" Ruby hit her fist on the table, continuing to shake the table.
"heh! I'm kinda surprised you felt anything at all, to be honest!" Ruby said, clenching her teeth. "I didn't need to feel, I saw." Sapphire remarked, causing Ruby to shake the table harder.
"Everything's just so crystal clear to you, isn't it?!" Ruby yelled, aggressively shaking the table from its hinges, making the plates on the otherside jump up.
Steven and Greg caught them from falling. "This will pass. She will eventually just burn herself out." Sapphire reassured.
"THAT'S WHAT YOU THINK! I AM AN ETERNAL FLAME, BABY!" Ruby yelled, summoning a gauntlet and slamming it down on the white table, finally breaking the table, making everything on the it fall to the floor. Ruby stood up on the seat and the two began arguing.
Steven looked at the cracked plate and food on the floor, as his eyes welled up with tears. "Hey, it's okay, pal! We can still save this! Why don't we just bag these up to go and-"
Greg tried to reassure his child, but was cut off by Steven smashing his own plate and leaving the place, leaving the once arguing couple to be stunned silence as they watched the boy leave.
"Ah, geez." Greg said, lowering his arms as the couple looked at eachother and ran after the boy.
"Steven!" They both yelled catching the angry boys attention making him turn around.
"I was so happy when Garnet said she was gonna come on this trip with me and dad! Homes been awful! Here's been awful! I thought you wanted to have a fun time, but everyone's been acting awful, too! It- it just came with us! I don't understand! Is it- is it me?"
Steven yelled but as he continued his voice got softer. "No!" Ruby said startling the sad boy.
"Steven, it's all us!" Ruby said just as Sapphire turned to her. "But we made him feel like it was his fault." Sapphire brought a hand near her mouth.
"I keep looking into the future when all of this has already been solved," Sapphires voice felt shaky as if treating to crack.
"As if it doesn't matter how you feel in the present." She turned away as she started to cry.
"No wonder you think I don't care!" Sapphire cried. "Sapphire, no, no, no, no, no! This is all my fault! I-I didn't want to look for a solution! I just wanted to be mad! you're right! You're always right! I was being stupid-" Ruby was cut off by Sapphire.
"I don't think your stupid!" She yelled making Ruby stiffen. "Im...sorry." Ruby apologized, pushing the bangs from out of Sapphires eye, putting her hand on Sapphires cheek.
"You honestly think I'm not upset about what happened? I was just, trying to do the right thing." Sapphire confessed a Ruby wiped her tear stream. "I know." Ruby said as Sapphire looked away leaning into Ruby's hand.
"You know what's nice about being split up?" Ruby asked "what?" Sapphire said returning her attention to the red gem.
"I get to look at you." Ruby said staring into Sapphires eye. Until she burst into laughter. "Be serious!" Sapphire said.
"There's my laffy saffy!" Ruby cheered. "Shh! You're embarrassing me infront of Steven!" Sapphire hushed blushing a darker shade of blue.
Steven looked away awkwardly as the two gems burst into giggles. Ruby picked Sapphire up earning a gasp from the gem, and carried her bridle style, kissing her neck.
Steven, now a lighter shade of pink, covered his eyes, laying on the ground with a sigh as Greg came up to the boy. "Well I paid for breakfast...and the damage to the booth." Greg added.
"Anyhoo, I think I'm all vacationed out. Ready to call it a day?" Greg asked his son. Steven was about to agree until a bright light cut him off as he looked at the light.
There Garnet stood where the two gems once stood. "not before we get our free ice." Garnet said fixing her visors with one hand. "Garnet!" Steven yelled with stars in his eyes.

"We're home!" Steven announced as he opened the door to the house. "I just don't know why I keep- oh!" Pearl cut herself off as she noticed the two in the door way.
"You look like you all had fun!" Pearl commented at the smiling faces the two wore. "Yeah, it all worked out!" Steven cheered as Garnet stood next to him, vacant of all emotions as she looked at the Pearl.
"Garnet, how are you?" Pearl asked, clasping her hands together. "Not now." Garnet said before walking to her room. "She's speaking to me again... kind of." Pearl said as Steven wore a brighter smile.
"That really was a great trip." Greg says, Steven gasped. "Can we go back?" He asked, Greg looked at him. "Maybe one day... but not to that diner." Greg said, ruffling the boys hair lightly.

Labradorite stayed behind the rocks behind the house. She wasn't sure if that big fusion had seen her or not and she wasn't willing to find out, even if she felt drawn to the maroon fusion.
They were just to big and to scary, if she wanted to play with someone, they had to be her size or smaller. Not a freaking giant!
Labradorite had waited until everyone was inside and stayed inside, well accounted for Greg as he left for the car wash.
Once Labradorite realized it was safe she quickly walked to the town eager to see her other friend.
