4: Keystone motel

A blue light enveloped the warp pad and Pearl stepped off the platform. "Pearl!" Pearl looked at the loft in surprise. "Where have you been?" Steven asked hurling down the steps and toward the Pearl. "Eh. Looking for Peridot." Pearl answered.

"For a few days straight." She admitted. "Steven I know I might have, disappointed all of you. I know Garnets very upset with me. But I'm going to prove to her that she can trust me again." Pearl spoke, a small but guilty smile making its way onto her face.

Right then Garnet opened the front door. "Oh, Garnet! I was just looking for Peridot !" Pearl informed, making Garnet stop in her tracks as Pearl stepped infront of her. "She's bound to be somewhere, right? Any new ideas?" Pearl spoke attempting to make small talk with the fusion. Garnet simply walked around the Pearl, not saying a single word. "I'm sorry." Pearl apologized, making Garnet stop in her tracks still not facing the Pearl.

"Who wants to go on a road trip?!" Greg announced, opening the front door with a brochure, the gems in the room looked at him. "Um... is this a bad time?" He asked, concern etched into his features. "No. Please continue." Garnet spoke, walking over to the man. "Well I gotta drive over to the next state, Keystone." Greg explained, moving away from the door.

"You mean, the Keystone state?" Pearl corrected. "Right the state named Keystone." Said Greg pointing at the Keystone brochure. "I met a guy on an internet message board who's selling car wash brushes for real cheap! I just gotta meet him in Keystoneand pick 'em up." Greg explained estaticly.

"I don't like those brushes. They feel weird on your fur." Steven commented, grimacing. "Well, do you like motels?" Greg asked, looking down at his son. "Probably!" Steven said with a smile. "Think you'd like to stay at a motel with your favorite dad?" Greg said proudly. "I don't know if you're my favorite..." Steven said, his head in his hand. "What? Huh?" Greg said in confusion until he realized.

"Oh, you kidder! Come here!" Steven jumped into his arms as Greg carried him with ease. "I can't wait to get room service!" Steven said with excitement. "Your thinking of a hotel. We're going to a motel! It'll have a pool and free ice. And it's right next to the best diner in the world!" Greg explained, ecstatic about the trip.

"I'm coming too." Garnet spoke, earning a "What?" From Pearl, to which she simply ignored. Steven gasped. "Even better!" Steven said with excitement. "Hey Garnet, I know I'm talking this place up, but it ain't exactly the ritz." Greg muttered to the fusion. "I'll be the judge if that." Garnet spoke with a smile. "Well, in that case... road trip!" Greg announced, looking at his son as Steven looked back with a smile. "Road trip!" Steven repeated with enthusiasm, pumping his fist up.

"Road trip." Garnet said, with much less enthusiasm than the other two. "Wonderful I'll make sure that Amethyst knows that..." Garnet walked away from Pearl and out of the house, Pearl sighed. "Fine. Well, uh, goodbye." Pearl waved. "This is gonna be so much fun, right, dad?" Steven asked his father, whom had a face full of concern and confusion.

<meanwhile>

Labradorite returned back to the communication hub, feeling very alarmed when she found it smashed. But soon shrugged it off as she had her wand on her and could easily use it as self defense. However now, she'll have to find a new place for a resting stop.

<------>

While flying over the hedges and literally everything she found a human vehicle much larger then the one she's seen in her life time but still one nonetheless. As she sat down on the roof of the vehicle, the engine blurred to life, alerting her, yes, but not completely spooking her. Labradorite's midhands gripped the roof of the vehicle tighter as it started to move and speed off, somewhere.

<now back to the group>

The van sped up a hill as it reached nighttime, Steven was snoring away in the passenger seat, Greg was tiredly driving and Garnet was in the back seat straight faced as she seemed to be lost in thought. Labradorite took a small bite of the donut she had bought the jelly that had filled the donut was savory and very sweet, Labradorite kicked her feet but in a slow manner to not his the van doors.

<time skip brought to you by the actual episode>

As midnight was pulling in so did the van pull into a motel parking spot. Labradorite stayed on the vehicle, pausing everything as the crew just walked passed the doors into their motel room. "Another great thing about motels-" Greg opened the door to the room. "You can drive right up to your door!" Both gasped when they saw the room, Steven being Starry-eyed.

"I'm gonna swim in the pool, order a movie, get free ice! It's gonna be great!" Steven exclaimed, jumping on the right bed, Greg being the cautious father that he is insisted they checked for bed bugs and hurried to check.

Garnet walked inside with all the luggage from the car and sat down on a bed. "Good news, we're bugless!" Greg announced, and soon as he said that his cellphone beeped. "Oop, that's my cue." He said as he checked his phone.

"Hey, do you mind holding down the fort till I get back." He asked the irritated fusion, whom held out a shaky thumbs up. "Great. I'm off to see a man about a tunnel brush." Greg said as he walked out the door. "An internet man. If I'm not back in an hour, call the police." Greg warned.

"Oh-kay!" Steven said, holding up a thumbs up, while Garnet continued to hold up the same thumbs up. Greg closed the door behind him. And turned to the roof of the car. "Huh?" Like normal he saw nothing Greg sighed and hopped in the car.

"Bounce with me Garnet!" Steven said at the unmoving fusion as he bounced on the bed, he soon stopped and picked up a brochure. "O-or we could look at brochures." Steven said, opening one up. "Ooh, Keystone caverns." He said with interest he was soon interrupted by Garnet, whom was now shaking and having a conversation with herself.

"Calm down."

Garnet panted heavily.

"I don't feel like forgiving Pearl!"

"Dont understand- we must."

Garnet gripped her shoulders with opposite hands.

"If your not going to listen, then you can just GO!"

Garnet pushed herself apart with a yell, leaving her counterparts on the floor.

"We must move passed this, Ruby." Sapphire spoke, facing away from the angry fire ball, whom was gripping her hair in frustration.

"She lied to us so we'd form Sardonyx! She tricked us! Don't you feel used?!" Ruby faced her monotoned partner, gripping her chest. "Ruby! Sapphire! I-" Steven cut himself off seeing the intensity of the situation.

"You're choosing to take it personally." Sapphire moved her head towards the angry Ruby as she said that to only turn back.

"Its fusion, Sapphire! WHAT'S MORE PERSONAL TO US THAN FUSION?!" Ruby exploded, jumping up in frustration.

"I know your still upset."

"Oh, so it's just me?"

"Of course not. Can't you see I'm completely engulfed with rage?" Said Sapphire as she turned around to show Ruby her monotoned face.

"Well it doesn't feel like it!" Ruby spoke in a condescending way, tapping her foot impatiently on the ground.

"The sooner we forgive Pearl, the better it will be for us all." Sapphire said, floating onto the bed she had just fallen off of.

"You're not above this as you think you are!" Ruby shouted, her eyes filling with tears that turned into steam as they exited her eyes.

"Yes I am." Sapphire said sitting on the bed with her arms folded neatly on her dress.

Ruby shouted, angrily pacing the floor.

"You can't stay angry at her forever." Sapphire spoke as Ruby gripped her hair once again

"Wanna bet?" Ruby challenged turning around pointing a finger in her lovers direction as steam came beneath her feet.

"Ruby, the carpet." Sapphire spoke. Ruby looked down at the crispy carpet, before rushing to the door, "you don't- I can't even- UgH!" Ruby slammed the door behind her, leaving steamy carpet footprints out the door.

Steven's eyes went back and forth as he watched the lovers fight, soon watching Ruby run out the door. Steven looked at Sapphire for a moment before greeting her with; "Nice to see you again?" He said, still clutching the brochure. "Nice to see you, too." Sapphire responded.

Steven left the room with a towel and in swimming trunks as he slowly followed the dark foot steps to the pool. There Steven found Ruby angrily pacing back and forth in the same spot for who knows how long. "Hey Ruby, you wanna swim in the pool?" Steven asked the angry gem making her stop her pacing.

"Its fusion, Steven! It's like Sapphire doesn't even care!" She started pacing once again. "And we're supposed to be the bigger gem about this." She seethed stopping her pacing again. "WE'RE ALWAYS THE BIGGER GEM!" Ruby yelled.

"Well, not this time! Not about this!" Ruby yelled, Steven set his towel down on the only bench. "Come on, why don't you come cool down in the pool?" Steven said, jumping into the pool with a huge splash.

Effectively soaking the red gem. "I don't need to cool down!" Ruby said, evaporating the water off of her body. "Come on, Ruby. The water's nice!" Steven coaxed, Ruby started at the boy but paced down the stairs of the pool.

"Why does she always act like I'm being ridiculous?" Ruby said walking down the stairs. "Just because she wants to pretend that she doesn't have feelings?!" Ruby angrily paced the bottom of the pool still talking.

"Uh, Ruby?" Steven said as he watched her pace under him, bubbles coming from the top of her head. "You made a warm spot!" Steven comment as small bubbles became clusters of bubbles as Ruby started unintentionally boiling the pool.

"Ah a hot spot! Boiling!!" Steven yelled as he got out of the pool in a hurry, his whole body covered in steam. "Uh I'm gonna go back to the room." Steven notified, hurrying away from the pool. And into the room.

Labradorite had skimmed over the place before flying back to the van, but to her surprise, it was gone. Labradorite looked at the ground, noticing footprints that weren't there before. Curious, she follows them to be met with a sight, the water had been completely drained from the pool only leaving an angry red gem, fuming about something pacing.

Labradorite knows she should leave the gem alone if their angry, but she had to know the reason why, to feed her ever growing curiousity. So she spoke to them. "Why are you so angry?"

Labradorite wanted to reach out to the Ruby, but she was so hot it would leave a burn, or...break her form. Labradorite hovered her hand over to her faintly cracked gem. The red gem grunted as Labradorite sat down on the edge of the pool her hands in her lap and her mid hands gripping the edge of the pool.

"It's Sapphire! She thinks she so above everything, even being mad! Ugh! Pearl tricked us into becoming Sardonyx, and she's not even angry about it!" The Ruby shouted.

" it's FUSION! What's more important to us than FUSION!" The Ruby yelled, gripping her hair in frustration as she grunted again. "Nothing?" Labradorite pried, with a tilt of the head. "NOTHING!" The Ruby confirmed as she continued her pacing. "Gee, that's a big thing to not feel angry about, not even a little ticked off?" Labradorite asked, kicking her feet out lightly.

"NO! She felt nothing! Finally someone who gets it!" Ruby yelled, kicking up dust on the pool ground, before getting back to pacing, then stopping, "Wait. Who are yo-..." Ruby turned to the gem that was on the edge of the pool just conversing with her, now gone as if she was never there. Still angry Ruby grumbled, continuing to pace.
