"Increasing speed..." Peridot growled as the drill peirced the surface of the earth. Once Peridot pressed a button on the controller she held, the drill dug into the earth quickly.
Steven turned on the drill light and a "Allright." With a serious look on his face. "Bracing for impact." Steven said, Peridot pointed to the screen in the drill.
"It's actually two more hours of the cluster." Peridot said, looking at the boy. "Oh. Wish I brought some tunes.." Steven sighed, Peirdot pressed a button on the drill, making Schmaltzy music play in the drill as they descended.
"Uh thanks." Steven spoke. The next few moments were silent only filled with the background music as the drill descended deeper into the earth, making Steven feel slightly nauseous.
"It's kinda freaky down here, huh?" Steven said, trying to make conversation. "Why is that?" Labradorite finally spoke up, looking up over the seat at the two gems.
"It's just dark and cramped." Steven stretched his arms up, almost hitting Labradorite in the face, if she hadn't moved her head back.
"I can't even Stretch out." Steven was cut off by the drill rumbling. Steven sat with his knees close to his chest.
"How did you think you were gonna get everyone in here, anyway?" Steven asked as Labradorite turned away from the two, looking at the small screens behind her.
"I don't know. They's shrink or something. We didn't have a lot of time to plan." Peridot spoke, Labradorite squinted at one of the screens.
"So what is the plan?" Steven asked, Peridot wasn't prepared for that. "We have to drill. We're going to drill." Peridot said, before taking a glance at the screen in the drill.
"Get ready we're about to penetrate the Asthenosphere." Peridot said as the drill began to dug right into Lava.
"Whoa! It's all lava!" Steven comments with wide eyes. "Lava is what comes out of volcanoes." Labradorite educated.
"That's superheated Peridotite." Peridot smiled, Steven looks at Peridot confused. "Peridot-ite?" Steven repeated, though a bit off.
"Yeah. It's made of the same stuff as Peridot's." Peridot smiled, looking at the superheated rock. "You were made on homeworld right?" Steven asked suddenly, Peridot nodded, slightly unnerved at the subject change.
"What was it like?" Steven prodded. "I didn't exist, then I did." Peridot says plainly. "I didn't have memories of it, just feelings." Peridot said before looking off to the side.
"I know I can never go back to homeworld, but it's hard not to have some feelings for where you came from..." Peridot muttered, looking back at the glass panel, a tear pricking from the corner of her eye.
Peridot looked at Steven who looked at her worriedly. Peridot then felt a hand caress her cheek, a blue hand. Peridot looked up to see Labradorite staring at Peridot, her eyes laced with worry.
Peridot pulled away and rubbed the tear from her eye. "But It's fine. I have something different now." Peridot said, focusing her eyes ahead of her and keeping her hands on the steering wheel.
"What's that?" Steven and Labradorite asked in unison. "You two know..." Peridot blushed in embarrassment.
"You...guys." Peridot flushed averting her gaze as Steven and Labradorite processed her answer. Steven smiled softly as Labradorite smiled with a soft blush spreading on her cheeks.
Suddenly thumping could be heard and Steven lost his smile, looking up at the drill. "What's that sound?" Steven asked, staring up at the drills ceiling.
"Oh yeah I forgot to tell you!" Labradorite snapped her fingers as a forced fusion slammed itself on the glass beside Steven, making him pull back.
"Some forced fusions were caught in the crust and found us!" Labradorite smiled. "They must have buried some prototypes with the cluster." Peridot said as the thumping continued.
Labradorite pointed to the screen that showed the outside of the drill, showing multiple forced fusions attacking the drill. "They're attacking the drill! What do we do!?" Steven yelled panicky, Peridot kept a straight face as she tapped a button, making a some kind of cannon on the drill pop up.
"Pearl didn't think it was necessary, but I never leave home without a blast cannon." Peridot said pushing the controller into Steven's hands.
The screen monitoring the drills progress turned into a camera for the cannon. Steven went to work and blasted the forced fusions off the drill.
"Something doesn't feel right about this..." Steven says. "OH YA THINK!?" Yelled the forced fusion behind the seats.
"No it's just, the forced fusions, we can't just leave their gems out there, they're going to form again later. If I could just bubble them, then they'd be safe." Steven said, Labradorite stopped. "Never mind, continue." Labradorite said. "Come on. We've got to help them." Steven pleaded.
"There is no helping them. Aside from Labradorite, they're too broken, the beings who used to be in those shards are so shattered, they don't know who they are or what's happening around them. They just seek other gems, looking for the missing pieces of themselves, trying to make themselves whole..."
Steven blasted the forced fusion of the camera as Peridot continued to talk. "These early experiments only combined two or three shards, the cluster will be a billion times bigger. An inseparable fusion capable of destroying worlds, starting with this one." Peridot finished.
"That's cool and all, now can we please get off the topic of me." Labradorite called, rolling her eyes. The drill hit denser rock, making the drill shake. "We're hitting some denser rock! This is it!" Peridot yelled as the drill peirced the final layer, revealing the cluster. "Recovery depth achieved. Target found." Peridot said as she looked over the cluster with her binoculars. "Is that?" Steven started. "The Cluster.." Peridot finished.
There was stunned silence as everyone looked at the cluster. Before the earth rumbled and moved, effectively freaking everyone out.
"What's happening!" Steven freaked out. "What do you think!?" Labradorite remarked as the cluster glowed brightly. "It's too late! It's taking form!" Peridot yelled as the Cluster began to take form.
"Steven I'm sorry I couldn't save you or the billions of other life forms who matter far far less to me! And Labradorite please know that I care deeply for you and I am sorry you couldn't have a better living experience! Do you have any last words?!" Peridot shouted.
"I love you, Peridot." Steven and Labradorite said in unison once more hugging the green gem for dear life. "Wow. Thanks." Peridot said, tears filling her eyes as the Cluster began to form outside the drill. But it stopped, going back into its hole.
"It's still struggling to take it's form! This means we still might have time! There's still a chance!" Peridot yelled pressing a few buttons as Steven stood there, feeling awfully nauseous.
"Just a little repositioning!" Peridot muttered, enteirng the hole where the cluster was and repositioning the drill so it'd face the struggling cluster.
"Peridot I don't think we should hurt the cluster." Steven says "I don't think it knows what it's doing." Steven tried to excuse. Peridot looked at the screen that showed the cluster then looked at Steven.
"It doesn't matter if it knows what it's doing, it's still going to do it." Peridot's grip on the steering wheel tightened and she activated the drill once more. The drill launched toward.
Everyone screamed as the drill finally touched the surface of the Cluster. Steven put his hands over his ears at the piercing noise.
Steven hunched over in his seat, the nauseating feeling returning once more. "What?! Is the increased vibrations causing damage to your head holes?!" Peridot asked, making Steven scream an "I don't know!" At her.
"We're not even piercing the crust yet!" Peridot shouted. "I need to increase power! Are you going to be okay!?" Peridot asked.
"Yeah, yeah. I thin it's just the noise... I think, keep going" Steven said, feeling light headed. Peridot eyed him for a second before saying "Affirmative." And increasing the drills power. "Activating triple tip penetration mode!" Peridot said as she did so.
The drill jumped and jolted as the drill started to do some damage to the cluster. Steven grew more and more light headed then before, seeing hallucinations he knows aren't there. One of the drills popped off the main drill making Labradorite yell, "Runaway drill!"
Peridot grunted and tried to keep the last two drills center. "There! Just got to keep... Balance!" Peridot grunted.
"Okay..." Steven before yelping and launching backwards into Peridot, making her lose her grip and focus.
There goes the second drill. The drill spun on only one drill, trying to keep it's balance. "I don't know if it's going to hold!" Peridot shouted as they were all slammed back into their seats.
"I don't.. understand what's happening!" Steven yelled, holding his gem and his aching head. "What's wrong?!" Peridot asked confused. "I don't know!" Steven replied as his gem began to glow.
"Steven? STEVEN!?" Peridot grabbed Steven shoulder as he passed out.
[A/n: you guys are gonna be in for a shock when you see inside the Cluster.. >:)]
