22: new and old 'friends'

It was bright outside, Peridot was mostly by Labradorite's side for the night, however the moment the sun rose, Peridot asked Labradorite to get her off , to which she obliged, and she started to work.

After the sun had risen, the gems finally got to work, but they weren't working on the drill, instead they were setting a table..? With balloons and stuff of that category. "I can't believe it's finally my birthday!" Steven said happily as Labradorite flew off the roof, ready to help Peridot with whatever she needed.

"You're sure it's okay we're taking a break from the drill?" Steven looked back at Pearl. "Peridot and Labradorite will keep us on schedule." Pearl said, tieing fabric into a bow. "Yo, Peri, you sure you don't want to get in on this?" The Amethyst asked, before blowing a triangular balloon up that had an angry looking face on it. It popped.

Labradorite and Peridot just stared at the broken balloon before Peridot made Labradorite turn back, giving the forced fusion some scraps from the barn, she moved to the side of the barn, Labradorite following.

"We should celebrate our progress. We should celebrate your progress." Garnet corrected. "You've grown alot this year." Garnet placed her hand on Steven's head with a small smile.

"He certainly has." Pearl comments with a matching smile. "Yeah. Yeah, I guess so!" Steven smiles before a horn honking knocks him out of his thoughts.

Steven looks up to see a van. A girl steps out of the passenger seat, before grabbing a suit case from the seat. The girl turned around and laid her eyes on Steven.

"Steven!" The girl said. "Connie!" Steven smiled, dropping the fabric that was once in his hands. "Happy birthday!" Connie said, hugging the birthday boy tight before letting go. "Thanks! Welcome to the party!" Steven welcomed.

"May I offer you a refreshment?" Steven asked, pulling two juice boxes from his pockets. "Oh, Steven, how gentile." Connie smiled as the two both said 'clink' as they hit their juice boxes together.

"Soo this is the barn." Steven says, gesturing to the barn. "I'm surprised your parents are letting you stay for the weekend." Connie chuckles at Steven's comment. "It wasn't easy, they on,y let me come after equipping meditation every piece of safety gear on the planet."

"What should I do with this defibrillator?" Greg asked, pulling said item from the van. "Uhm, we can just leave it in the car for now!" Connie called back to the man. Steven chuckles at the interaction. "Well I'm glad you could make it." Steven says with a smile. "Me too." Connie agrees before the two kids turned around walking towards the set up table.

"Alright, move it, Connie! I was his best friend first!" Greg said, running up to the two kids. Greg picks Steven up and pulls him into a hug, yelling "Happy Birthday!" Cheerfully to the boy before placing him back on the ground.

Labradorite peaked from the corner of the barn and tilted her head. "Madem Peri?" Peridot looks up from her work. "Yes, Labby?" Labradorite looked back at Peridot.

"What is a birthday and why is Steven's caretaker telling him it's happy?" Labradorite asked, giving Peridot more of the metal scraps.

"The Steven told me it is a way from humans to keep track of their lives or how long they've been living in years. Each year humans celebrate their lives with edible items called cake and items called streamers and party balloons." Peridot explained.

"Do we have a birthday?" Peridot looked at her confusedly. "Huh?" Peridot let out a sound of confusion. "Do we have a birthday?" Labradorite repeated with the same confusion.

"Uhm, no. Why would you want to participate in something as minisculeas that?" Peridot looked at Labradorite funny. Labradorite looked back at the father and son. "I dunno, looks fun..." Labradorite muttered.

Peridot looked at Labradorite, then at the metal in her hands, then back at Labradorite. "Hey, Labby?" Labradorite looked over at Peridot with a hum. "You... you can go participate in this ritual." Peridot avoided Labradorite's wide sparkling eyes. "Really?" Peridot looked over at her and immediately regretted it.

Peridot looked away from Labradorite's pretty eyes and nodded quickly. "If you wish. I'll keep us on schedule." Peridot says, before she was enveloped in blue.

"Thank you madem Peri! Thank you!" Labradorite paused and began to think, pulling away from Peridot.

"But if I go, you'll be alone. uhm..." Labradorite hesitated, fiddling with her hands as she alternared between the party and Peridot. "Just go Labby, I'll still be here." Peridot smiled and tried to reach Labradorite's head with a grunt.

Labradorite squatted down so Peridot could pat her head. Labradorite stood and hugged Peridot once more before looking over to the crystal gems, wondering about when it was okay to enter the atmosphere.

"Yo, Labradorite!" Labradorite jumped at the sound of her voice used by the shirt violet solider walking up to her. "Came to join the party?" The Amethyst asked, Labradorite hesitated looking behind her at Peridot who gestured her to go on again, and nodded quickly.

"Good, cause this is gonna be the best party, you ain't gonna wanna miss!" Amethyst led Labradorite over to the table. "You can-" Amethyst stopped herself, remembering what happened last time Labradorite was left alone with Garnet and Pearl.

"Eeer... Never mind! You can help Greg, uhmmm, hang the piñata!" Amethyst pushed Labradorite to the man, muttering a "be careful she's a bit of a worry wort." Before going over to help Steven hang up the ribbon.

Labradorite looked up at the man, while Greg looked down at Labradorite a crown and cape I his grasp. "Oh geez... hey little guy." Greg smiled awkwardly at Labradorite, making her tilt her head.

As far as she realized, Greg must've been a human, and humans think that she's 'cute'. Labradorite has also realized that some humans, could never hurt cute things. Perhaps she could use this to her advantage.

Labradorite waved at the man shyly. "I think, I'm supposed to be helping to hang a pin-ita? with you, human Greg." Labradorite said, Greg cooed at Labradorite's charm and chuckled. "We'll be doing that later now, where's Steven?" Greg looked over the area before spotting the boy.

"There's my b-day guy!" Greg said, walking over to the boy. "Oh, what's up, dad?" Steven asked before spotting Labradorite trailing behind the man.

"Labradorite? You're joining the party?" Labradorite nodded while fiddling with her hands. "We're almost ready to start. Got your birthday cape and crown ready too." Greg gestured to the cape and crown in his hands. Greg gives Steven the items with a "Here.".

"Put em on and go wait in the barn." Greg says pushing Steven in the barn. "Alright, now sit tight. You're gonna love this." Greg says as he closes the barn door. "What exactly is he loving?" Labradorite asked once Greg closed the door.

"The party. Have you never been to a birthday party before?" Greg asked, Labradorite shook her head slowly. "Oh, well this is gonna be you first and best party you're gonna be at. " Greg guarantees, Labradorite looked at the Barn doors, then at the ribbon above that spelled 'Happy birthday Steven.'.

"Okay..." she muttered, however she still was a bit bummed that Peridot couldn't join her.
