Chapter 8

Monday, 01:02 pm.

Walking down the crowded hallway, Nya clung tightly to the books she was holding against her chest. She was headed towards her locker.

Since it was a Monday, Nya didn't have any classes together with Skylor, unfortunately for her. Yes, Nya was a people-person, but she was still a little bit shy around people she barely knew.

And she also hadn't seen him ever since the school began that morning which made her day a little bit gloomy, she couldn't deny that.

Stopping in front of a blue locker, she pulled out a key and opened it. Just as its door opened, something came flying out immediately.

She looked at the floor to see a red rose with something attached to its stem. A small smile growing on her face, she bent down and grabbed it while slowly standing back up. She made sure to cover herself with the door of her locker before she took a close look at the beautiful, red rose in her hands. It didn't have any thorns which was a good thing, considering she immediately grabbed it tightly. There was a small, blue note attached to its stem with a little, green thread.

Ripping the note out of the rose's stem, Nya unfolded it to recognize the slightly messy handwriting immediately. She smiled as she read through the message.

"Hey! I've looked at both of our schedules and saw that we'd probably not see each other for many hours, so I put this in your locker. Hope you'll like it! Also, I have something for you, it'd be great if you could come to the janitor's closet in the lunch break if you haven't planned anything yet. I'll be waiting there. It's also fine if you can't come, don't worry :D
Yours, Jay<3 "

Nya smiled like crazy at the last few sentences. He could have texted her instead of organizing all of this, but Jay's always been that type of man.

"And here they say romance is dead." Nya murmured to herself as she quickly closed her locker.

Locking it back up, Nya looked at the time on her phone. 01:04 pm. She smiled, realizing she wouldn't be that late.

So she headed to the west side of the huge building. She passed many open classrooms and doors before she finally arrived at the janitor's closet. The door was closed, and usually always locked, so she looked both right and left to see no student to her luck, and grabbed onto the door knob before slowly turning it to the side. The door was actually open.

Once she looked inside, the first thing that caught her eye was Jay pacing around. He probably didn't even realize she was already inside, due to him still not stopping in his tracks.

The closet wasn't that big, though it wasn't unbearably small either. It was somewhere in-between. There were many cleaning utensils and laundry detergents and a big supply of toilet paper rolls everywhere.

She rolled her eyes at her boyfriend's behavior. So, in an attempt to stop him, she cleared her throat.

Jay's head shot up and into her direction, his eyes wide at first. But when he realized it was her, a big smile developed on his face.

"Hey." He said, rushing over to her to pull her into a hug.

She melted into his touch. "Hi." She greeted back. "I just read your note, I hope you didn't have to wait for too long." She said after pulling away.

"Oh, no, no, no. Don't worry about it." He smiled.

She smiled. "So, why'd you want me to come here?" She asked, looking around the closet.

"I thought that... maybe if you don't have anything planned for this break already... we could..."

"Hang out?" Nya finished his sentence, looking at him.

He nodded sheepishly, scratching his neck.

Nya looked at him dreamily. "Sure!" She beamed. "But are you sure we won't get caught?" She asked.

Jay chuckled, pulling out a key from his pocket. He walked up to the door and locked it, leaving the key inside of the slot while turning back to her.

"This closet is usually barely being entered. And the door's locked, just in case." He smiled, walking up to the big shelf in the room. He grabbed two mugs and turned around. "I got us some coffee!" He beamed before he looked rather insecure. "I mean, I hope you're into coffee. If- If you're not, that's okay too, I could get you some-"

"No, I love coffee. Thanks!" She went over to him and took the cup he was holding out to her. She took a few sips. "Mmm, it's pretty good." Then she drank a bit more.

Jay let out a sigh of relief. He looked around, frowning. "Guess I forgot to bring some chairs." He laughed awkwardly.

"That's fine, we've got the floor." Nya said, already moving towards the floor to sit. She leaned her upper body against the wall as she was facing the direction of the supply of toilet paper.

Scooting a little bit to the left, Nya patted the free space next to her. Smiling, Jay sat down on the floor as well. He looked at her and innocently smiled as he scooted closer to her until he was able to sling his arm around her shoulders. So she leaned into his side, resting her head on his chest.

"I like this." Jay simply stated, taking a sip of his coffee.

Nya looked up at him, raising an eyebrow. "What?"

"This." He pointed at his surroundings with the hand he was holding his mug in.

"The closet?" Nya asked, confused.

"Wha- Not the closet." He clarified, laughing. "I mean this, us. The alone time we have." He sighed happily as he rested his head on hers.

She giggled as his hot breath met her scalp. "Me too, but if we keep doing this, we'll get caught one day."

"I'll make sure that won't happen." Jay smiled, his voice calm and soothing.

Nya drank up the last bit of coffee that was left in her mug and put it aside, sighing. Everything she was standing for tumbled down at once when she agreed on starting a relationship with her teacher.

She was a person to always try her best to be a good citizen and follow basic rules, and now she intentionally broke them. However, it didn't feel as wrong as it should have been. It was more of a 'meh' situation.

Yes, there was a clear rule that teachers were restricted from starting a romantic relationship with one of their students, but from what Nya's heard before, every relationship like that was only about getting higher and better grades. From what she's gathered, she hadn't even heard about one relationship that contained true feelings. That contained love.

That was what the common misconception when it came to teacher-student romantic relationships was: the factor of love. Nya loved Jay, and there was no doubt of him not loving her back. They weren't doing it for the grades or money, all they wanted was to be together.

And now that she was in one of those relationships herself, she knew she had to be extra careful with what she was sharing with other people and how she was acting around them.

One wrong word, and they would be done for.

But was that really what she wanted? A relationship in which she could only be with Jay if they would meet in a closet inside of their school during breaks?

Yeah, that was exactly what she wanted.

Of course it wasn't the best thing, but it was better than nothing at all.

"You seem distant."

Nya snapped out of her thoughts and looked at Jay. "Hm?"

"I said you seem distant. Is everything okay?" He asked, a little bit of worry in his voice.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking."

"About what?" The teacher asked.

Nya smirked at him, ready to see a little bit of red on his face. "You."

And just like she'd expected it, his face went red immediately. He coughed surprisedly and looked away, unsuccessfully trying to hide his blush.

"And what about me, exactly?" He asked, ready to hear more.

"I don't know, guess it's just I think you look adorable with your polo shirt and pants." She grinned, seeing him go even redder.

In one swift movement, Jay managed to sweep his girlfriend off of the floor and place her on his laps, making her straddle him. He buried his face in the crook of her neck and wrapped his arms loosely around her waist.

"You look cuter with your blouse and jeans." He said, embarrassed.

Nya giggled as his hot face was pressed against her neck. "What was that?" She teased him although she heard him very clearly.

He drew his face out of her neck to look into her eyes. "You're cuter." He said.

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Absolutely."

"No."

"Totally."

"What have you done to me?"

"What?"

"When did I get this lovey-dovey? It's not like me to be like this." She said, looking away.

Jay looked deeply into her eyes without her looking back. "The question is if you like the new you. You've never been in a relationship before, so this all might seem different from what you're used to." He took her hand and kissed her knuckles.

Nya turned back towards him, watching him as he pulled her hand away from his mouth. She gave him a warm smile. "All I can say is I'm not regretting it."

Jay smiled back dreamily. Both of them apparently having the same idea, they leaned forwards. The two lovebirds closed their eyes, their lips mere inches away. Everything was wonderful until...

The two opened their eyes in shock once they realized someone from the outside was trying to get in. The door was pulled and pushed, but since it was locked, the person couldn't get in. They started to panic.

They stood up and stared at the door. "What are we gonna do?" Jay whispered into Nya's ear, completely freaking out.

Nya looked at Jay, then at the door, and then back at Jay. Her eyebrows creasing in worry, she herself was panicking from the inside.

It was when she saw a rather big, black trash can behind him in the corner that she got an idea. Moving up to it, she opened the lid to luckily find it empty and clean. She started to climb inside.

"What are you doing?!" Jay asked, walking up to her.

While climbing inside, Nya looked at him. "We can't be seen here together. You, being a teacher, are more likely to be here than me. Now help me!"

Jay grabbed the lid from the floor and stared at it. "You think this is a good idea?" He asked worriedly.

"Yes, and now put that thing on me!" She hissed quietly.

He did as he was told. "Maybe the person left?" He wondered out loud.

Just then, the person on the other side started to knock. Jay took one last deep breath before slowly turning the key in the slot.

He opened the door to see Skylor raising an eyebrow.

"Skylor?" Jay asked, surprised.

"Mr Walker." The redhead said back. "What are you doing here?" She narrowed her eyes at him, her arms crossed in front of her chest.

"I- uhh..." He scratched the back of his neck sheepishly, looking away. "The... janitor asked me if I could get him a pack of toilet paper. Yes, that's why I'm here!" He said confidently.

"Really? Because that's why I'm here... because he told me to get some cleaning mops for the spilled milk on the floor of the cafeteria." Skylor raised an eyebrow, totally not buying his story.

"Umm." Jay gulped, trying to think of a way to get out of the situation.

"You don't happen to know where Nya is, do you?" She pressed.

"Nah, I haven't seen her all day." He lied, hoping she would be satisfied with his answer.

The word 'satisfied' was a poor choice of words because she started to smile. "Oh, okay then..." She looked at her left and right and when she saw nobody in the hallway, she looked back at him. "Jay, could I talk to you for a second?"

"Sure?" Jay was unsure of what to think.

Skylor had a glint in her eye as she stepped closer to him and basically pushed him inside and closed the door behind her, locking it.

"Skylor, what are you doing?" Jay asked, completely confused.

However, she didn't listen as she stepped into his personal space. "You know," She said as her hand went up to caress his auburn locks. "I don't know how Nya says she could never date anyone. Especially someone as handsome," She put her hands on his chest. "strong, and confident as you. But I'm glad," She said as she stepped even closer. "because now there's more for me." She smiled seductively.

"W-What do you mean?" Jay's eyes widened. He tried to step away but his back hit the wall immediately.

"Oh, you know exactly what I mean." She smirked.

"Skylor, you have a b-boyfriend."

She licked her lips.

"He doesn't need to know."
