Chapter 5

Saturday, 12:58 am.

"I really hope we can see some swans." Jay said as they walked around the huge lake.

They had been walking for about ten minutes now, talking about anything. The topics just came up out of nowhere which was perfect for both of them, so that their conversation wouldn't turn awkward.

Nya took a look at the lake, seeing some ducks, but no swans. "I'm sure there's gonna be some around here." She reassured him.

When she turned back to look at him, she saw him staring right back at her, almost trying to take a good look of her for an internal image. When she felt her face burning slightly, she quickly turned away again, smiling.

The fact that they were walking right next to each other, actually closer than in the beginning, didn't help her. He saw her blushing. Now he was blushing, himself. Great. He then also turned away, praying it wasn't too awkward.

"Nya!"

They both stopped in their tracks when they heard a masculine voice shout from behind them. Turning around, they saw a young man in a green jumper, grey jeans and platinum blonde hair rushing over to them.

"Lloyd!" Nya yelled back when she recognized who he was.

Nya took a few steps towards him, embracing him in a hug. They both giggled while holding each other.

Jay, in the meantime, was raging from the inside. 'Who is that? How do they know each other? Why are they hugging? Is he her-'

"Who's that?" Lloyd asked after they parted, looking at Jay.

Nya turned around to look at Jay, noticing his stiff posture. She walked back next to him, pointing at him with her thumb. "That's Jay." Then she turned towards said man. "Jay, this is Lloyd." She smiled.

Jay crossed his arms, looking away. "I didn't know you had a... boyfriend." He muttered the last word under his breath, though it was quite loud.

Nya's eyes widened, glancing at Lloyd who also stared back at her wide-eyed. After a few seconds of complete silence, they both broke out in laughter, confusing Jay.

"What?" Jay asked a bit too sharply.

The girl wiped away a stray tear while trying to calm down. "Lloyd? Me? Really?" Then she broke out in laughter again. She sighed, feeling normal again. "Jay, we're good friends, nothing more. Besides," She walked up to Lloyd and nudged him. "Mr Greenie here has a crush." She said in a sing-song voice.

Jay felt relief wash over him. Was he really jealous?

Lloyd gasped. "I do not!" He defended himself.

"Suuure." Nya smiled sheepishly.

"Well, you have a crush too." He crossed his arms, looking away like a little child.

Jay's eyes widened. 'She has a crush? Can it be me? What if it's not me?!' He panicked from the inside.

Nya's face turned red. "I don't, Lloyd. You know that." She said, annoyed.

"Mhm, yeah." He teased her. "Tell that to the blushing mess that's your face." He smirked.

At that point, Jay felt as if he wasn't meant to be there anymore. His lips turned downwards. He felt sad, really. She had a crush, apparently. There was no way it was him out of all people.

"You know what?" Nya took out her phone.

"What are you doing?" Lloyd asked, almost panicking.

"Calling Rumi to see if she wants a boyfriend. I mean, you shouldn't care, right?" She casually dialed up Harumi's number and put the phone up to her ear, hearing the first beep.

Now Lloyd full-on panicked. He ripped the phone out of Nya's hand and quickly ended the call before anyone could answer on the other side. "Don't you dare to that again!" He threatened.

"Admit it." She smirked.

He rolled his eyes. "Fine." He muttered. "Anyways, what are you doing here?"

Nya smiled, looking at Jay. "We're spending the day together. What are you doing here?"

Lloyd gave her a short, knowing smirk which stopped once he saw her glaring at him. "I'm gonna meet with Zane, Pix, Sky and your bro in a few hours. Apparently they met someone new who could join our friend group."

"Really? Do you know who it is?" She was curious now.

"Hmm, wait. Kai sent me a pic of him, together with his name. It's a boy, by the way." Lloyd pulled out his phone and opened his chat with one of his closest friends, Kai.

He clicked on a picture. It showed a few people, apparently Kai and the others, together with a new boy. He had just as black hair as Nya did and was wearing a black sweatshirt. He also wore a pair of headphones around his neck which were also black. That dude must've loved the color black.

Lloyd showed Nya the picture. "His name's Cole." He added.

"Cole?" The name caught Jay's attention. He walked right next to Nya, their hands almost touching. "May I see the picture?" He asked Lloyd.

"Sure." The boy in green gave him his phone which also had a green phone case with a print of a dragon in a darker shade of green on it.

Jay rolled his eyes playfully, laughing while giving Lloyd the phone back.

"Do you know him?" Nya asked, curious of his behavior.

"Know him? I live with him." He laughed. "We're roommates."

Just before Lloyd could to say anything, he noticed a, to him, very scary and intimidating animal approaching from behind Nya and Jay. His eyes widened as he shakily pointed behind them. "G-Guys, look out!" He squeaked.

Nya raised an eyebrow, looking behind herself with Jay whose eyes shone and a smile crept up on his face. "A swan!" He screamed in excitement, almost scaring the animal away.

"What's wrong?" Nya turned back towards Lloyd who seemed on high alert and ready to take off.

Lloyd slowly backed away. "How can you be so chill about this?" He whisper-shouted. "You know what? I'll text you later. See ya!"

Jay and Nya watched as Lloyd ran out of the park. After he was gone, they side-eyes each other before turning back towards the swan.

"It's so beautiful." Jay remarked as he watched the creature's every move.

Nya looked at him, amazed. "How come you love swans like this?" She asked.

Jay sighed. "After I had to move here, I couldn't make any friends and since I lost contact with you, I was practically alone because my parents were too busy with their jobs. I used to come here whenever I felt too lonely and just watched swans enjoying each other's company. I guess it just stuck with me." He smiled sadly, still watching the white feathered animal walking around on the path in front of them aimlessly.

Nya looked at him pitifully and without even taking a second to think about it, she wrapped her arms tightly around his torso, leaning her head against his chest. "It's okay." She murmured against his chest.

Jay immediately hugged her back just as tightly, burying his head into her hair, taking in her sweet scent. He smiled once he recognized the scent from his childhood, when Nya used to have the exact same scent. It made him feel home. "I know." His smile widened.

None of them wanted to let go which made them stay in each other's embrace for quite some time. In the end, Nya slowly pulled away, blushing and looking down.

"What are we gonna do now?" She asked, realizing that the swan was long gone.

Jay took out his phone to look at the time. He hummed. "We still have three hours until the movie begins. We could do whatever we want to." He said, putting his phone back into his back pocket. "Any suggestions?" He asked, smiling sweetly.

"I don't kno- oh! What about the Mega Monster Amusement Park? I heard it's pretty cool!" She suggested in excitement.

"You... heard?" He asked. "Have you never been there?"

"Nah, I never got to go there and-"

"Okay, that's it. To the car, now!" He said, grabbing her hand and marching out of the park with her.

"Jay." She laughed, trying to keep up with his pace.

He slowed down a bit, making them walk side by side again. However, his grip on her hand was still strong and it became even stronger once he realized she was squeezing back.

He smiled, feeling his cheeks burn. "You're gonna have the best first experience ever!" He beamed, stopping at a red traffic light.

"I don't doubt that." She said, smiling at him.

Jay looked down at her, smiling back dreamily. After they were able to cross the road, they walked up to Jay's blue Porsche and went inside. Just as Jay was about to start the engine, his phone started to ring.

"Jump up, kick back, whip around and spin.
And then we jump back, do it again.
Ninja-Go! Ninja-Go!
Come on, come on, we're gonna do it again..."

Nya laughed, watching him panicking as he tried to pull out his phone.

After Jay finally grabbed his phone, he saw that a person called 'Dirtclod' was calling. He groaned, picking up. "What?"

"I'm also happy to hear your voice, my dearest friend."

Jay rolled his eyes. "I'm busy, what do you want?"

"Relax, dude. I know you are, but I need you to go to the supermarket to buy toilet paper and some groceries. I'll send you the list."

Jay growled. "Cole, that can wait. What's wrong with you?"

"Jay, it's urgent. Just take a few minutes, go buy the stuff, bring it home and go back to your little date."

"But-"

Beep, beep, beep.

Jay sighed, pulling his phone away from his ear.

"Is... everything okay?" Nya asked.

Jay's eyes widened, realizing she was still there. "It was Cole."

"Yeah, I kinda heard that." Nya giggled.

Her giggles were like music to the teacher's ears. "Is it okay if we take a little longer before we go to the amusement park? Cole needs me to buy something and bring it home." Jay asked, embarrassed.

"Sure." Nya smiled.

For the next hour, Jay and Nya went to the local grocery store and bought whatever Cole had sent Jay over text. There was quite a lot of candy, as well as cake, but Jay didn't even care anymore. He knew Cole too well by now. After paying for the food and toilet paper, they both walked out to the parking lot with their shopping cart and started to put the groceries in the trunk. Then they got in the car again and Jay headed for his shared apartment.

Nya looked out of the window when she felt the car slowing down. Jay parked right in front of his apartment and unbuckled his seatbelt.

He raised his eyebrow when he realized Nya wasn't moving a muscle. "You coming?" He asked.

Nya looked at him. "Hm? Oh, I thought I would wait here while you-"

"What? No! You can come in." He smiled.

His smile was contagious. "Okay, then." She started to unbuckle her own seatbelt, getting out of the car herself.

Nya went to grab some of the shopping bags, but had to accept defeat when Jay refused to let her even carry one of the bags. And they were quite a few. She insisted but he had a hard shell to crack, so she just gave up and walked next to the human mess of a plastic bag.

Jay pulled out a key out of nowhere, surprising the girl beside him because he managed to unlock the door while holding lots of bags. He threw open the door, letting her step in first.

Nya slowly walked inside, the scent of chocolate immediately hitting her nose. She looked around. Right in front of her was a huge, black couch and opposite of it was a big flatscreen TV which had a few gaming consoles in front of it. Lots of photos were hung on the wall and there were a few comic books on the coffee table. There was also a bigger table with four chairs in the room, more in the corner. To her left and right were also hallways with some closed doors.

"Cole!" She jumped when Jay suddenly screamed his name. He threw the shopping bags on the big table.

Some muffled voices were coming from a room to their left and both turned towards it. One door was yanked open and a young man around the age of nineteen ran into the living room. Well, let's just say Jay hadn't informed Cole that they were going to have a guest over, so he marched into the room with only a white towel covering his private parts.

Nya's eyes widened once she saw him and his overly exposed chest and six pack.

"Finally, Jay! I-" Then Cole noticed Nya. He let out the most high pitched scream ever and tried to cover his chest with his hands.

The girl quickly turned around. The situation was certainly... something.

"I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE BRINGING HER INSIDE!" He screamed at Jay, completely exasperated.

"Why didn't you tell him you were bringing me inside?!" Nya yelled, not as loudly, at Jay right after.

Jay couldn't help but grin at the situation.

Cole sighed. "I'll be right back." He left the room and walked back to where he came from.

After she heard the sound of a door closing, Nya turned around to glare at Jay who was trying to hold back his laughter. Before she could say anything, or scold him for that matter, the door opened again, revealing Cole wrapped in a long, black bathrobe, covering his whole body.

"Jay, it's times like these where I want to throw you out the window." Cole said, making his way over to them.

Nya smiled sheepishly, imagining it happening.

Cole reached out his hand for her to shake. "Hey, I'm Cole. You must be Nya, this dork's girlfriend. Nice to meet you!"
