Chapter 2

Thursday, 04:46 pm.

Arriving at home, Nya tossed her bag onto the floor next to where she hung up her dark gray coat and felt her feet relax after she took off her shoes. She stretched, hearing some cracks and looked into the small mirror on the little table. Her hair was a mess due to the severe windy attack on her.

"Are you back, sis?" She heard her brother scream at the top of his lungs from probably the living room.

Nya walked into the direction she thought the voice came from and surely, it was the living room. There she found her brother sitting on the couch, dumping his hand into a bowl of popcorn, watching TV. When she looked at the TV screen, she realized he was watching a true crime documentary. Why she realized it so quickly? Well, she was the one to suggest the certain YouTube channel to her brother, and apparently he liked their content just as much as she did.

Kai paused the video when he realized she was standing next to the couch, smirking. "Hey." He greeted, however the smirk was still there and she didn't greet back. He sighed, defeated. "Fine, I like their stuff. Happy?" He talked about the YouTube channel.

"Now I am, thank you." She then sat down next to him and took one popcorn and popped it into her mouth. "Guess who turned out to be my new Physics teacher."

"There's a new teacher?" Kai asked, also popping a single popcorn into his mouth.

"Mhm, and not just any teacher."

"What do you mean?" Kai raised an eyebrow.

She finished the popcorn in her mouth and leaned back into the couch, now looking at a wall while talking. "It's Jay." She simply stated.

Kai choked. "Jay, as in the dude you used to call best friend like four years ago who hurt you by never contacting you back?!" With each word that's passed his lips, Kai became more furious.

Nya side-eyed him. "Yeah, I mean I don't know another Jay, do I? But bro, we talked and sorted things out. He explained everything and he never even meant to break contact back then."

"What do you mean?" Kai narrowed his eyes.

"Apparently he lost his phone in a bus and never found it again and lost my number and all of his other contacts." She explained.

Kai sighed. "As much as I wanna stay mad, that pretty much describes him best. I mean, from what I remember, he used to be extremely clumsy." He laughed at the memory.

Nya smiled to herself. "Yeah, and he was pretty nice. We're friends again, by the way."

"Fine by me," Kai shrugged. "but could you ask him to come over some time? I'd like to see him again."

"Sure!" Nya beamed. She then got off of the couch. "I'll be in my room. Gotta do some homework."

"Alright." Her brother answered before he focused back on the TV and pushed play again.

Once she arrived in her bedroom, she immediately plopped down onto her bed. The baby blue sheets wrinkled on impact with her body and she bounced a little because of the many metal springs inside of her mattress. She laid down on her stomach, legs held up high and crossed in the air while she rested her upper body's weight on her elbows. In her hand was her phone. She tapped on the display and surely, there was a message from an unknown number saying 'Hey, I'm Jay. You know, that dude from earlier.'

She smiled as she reread the message for like the billionth time ever since school had ended. After their little reunion after Physics class, Jay and Nya didn't have a chance to see each other in school again. That's why he had sent her the message about two minutes after school was over for the day.

When she first heard her phone ring after she said her goodbye to Skylor and headed home, she ignored it until she realized it might have been him, to which she thanked herself for not not checking because it was him.

Nya wanted to text him back immediately, but decided against it so that she could respond when she wasn't in a hurry to get home. She wanted to have some peace and quiet, which now she did.

She quickly added his number to her contacts, typing in 'Jay <3' as his contact name and went into their chat room.

'Yeah, I kinda remember you now that you mention it :D' She answered.

Just as she was about to go on another app, she saw him coming online almost immediately. She smiled when she saw him typing.

'You still have kept your sarcasm, I see XD'

She laughed. It was true, though. She started typing.

'Why of course, where would I go without it?'

'Narnia!!'

'And you have apparently kept your strange taste in humor, I see.'

'You don't like it?'

She frowned. 'Never said that! You have an acquired taste and I love it.' Just as she sent her message, she realized her choice in words and blushed to herself.

'Oh, is that so?'

'Mhm.'

'Then you should probably prepare yourself for the next time we shall meet.'

'Oh lord, what are you planning?'

'I'll shower you with bad puns.'

'How awful🙄😂'

'Ikr. Anyways, how's it going in your life?'

Nya thought for a bit. 'I don't know, how it's supposed to be, I guess. I'm in my senior year, my best friend is my brother's girlfriend, my parents are still dead, everything's fine. How about your life?'

'Omg I forgot about Kai! How's he doing?'

She chuckled. 'He's fine. I just told him I met you again today and he asked if you'd wanna come over someday. He'd like to meet you again.'

'Sure, when?'

'Depends. You could come over for dinner only or we could hang out before that.'

'I'd love that. Are you free on Saturday?'

'Yup, all day.'

'Then I'll pick you up at 9 am and we'll spend the whole day together.'

Nya's face started to hurt from the way her eternal smile didn't seem to end. 'I'd like that. I'll tell you my address tomorrow in school some time.'

'Okay, then it's set.'

'Yeah.'

'Wait, Skylor is with Kai?'

'Crazy, I know. But it was nothing new when they announced it, I already knew they were gonna end up together from the way they were acting around each other.'

'Damn.'

'Mhm. They're gonna have their two year anniversary in about a month, I'm sure they'll invite you too.'

'Really? I mean, she didn't seem very... comfortable around me.'

'You're gonna grow on her, don't worry.'

'I hope so.'

She started typing, but stopped when she realized that her brother shouted something from downstairs which she couldn't really understand. Placing her phone down on her bed, she rolled out and opened her door.

"What?" She asked, yelling.

After a short silence, Kai yelled back. "Dinner's ready!"

"Okay!" She yelled for one last time and closed the door again.

She grabbed her phone and saw a text from Jay saying 'Nya? You there?'

'Sorry, my bro said I gotta eat dinner.'

'Now?'

'Yeah, he's gonna go to Skylor's later, so he told me we were gonna eat dinner earlier than usual yesterday.'

'Oh, alright. Ttyl then :P'

She smiled. 'See ya!' Then she left the chat.

Walking down the stairs, Nya began to wonder. Yes, Jay used to be her crush all those years ago, but she was thirteen years old when he had to move away and that was also the last time she had seen him. Until now, that is. But surely that was only a crush, right? No real feelings... right? Even if, they hadn't seen each other for four years straight, there was no way those feelings stayed, right?!

But then again, after he had left, she never found any interest in other boys again to the point both Skylor and Kai wondered if she was even heterosexual anymore. Nya herself had some times where she questioned her sexual preferences, but brushed it off, saying she didn't even want to be in a relationship that badly anyway. She never found someone to be with anyway. Then again, she had never been in a relationship before to really judge if it would change her life for the better or not.

She couldn't help but feel torn, really. When she first saw him in class earlier today, she couldn't believe her eyes at how different yet still familiar he looked. She noticed his hair being curly and his notch in his eyebrow he had back then was gone now. He also got some freckles which did look cute, she couldn't help but think that. When they talked after class, she couldn't help but smile for almost the eternity of it and the way his touch warmed her heart while they were hugging was clearly something new to her, and she liked it. His voice sounded the same, though. The last time she heard him talk four years ago, he had already hit puberty.

Even while Nya was texting him like moments ago, she felt something tingly inside of her which she hadn't felt before.

Or more like she hadn't felt it in a long while.
