Chapter 18

Monday, 05:43 am.

She never really understood why it had to be her to be in this situation, but somehow her luck wasn't really on her side. At any time.

Of course Freddy had to take all her stuff. That including her phone, and her clothes, and her dignity.

And not to mention the fact that the heaters weren't working in that place. Either he had turned them all off without her seeing, or those wouldn't work at night.

Or not at all, actually. She had never seen a swimming pool area being heated.

Nya, being in her swimsuit still, only had the chance to cover herself with the small towel she had put her feet on earlier. She had wrapped it around her shivering body as she was in the far corner of the vast area, curled up in a ball while trying to somehow make herself become warmer.

But as the hours passed, she lost hope in anyone finding her. The championships? Yeah, someone had to notice her missing, right?

But she had not told anyone about her being there, how were they going to find her?

Nya had tried to stay in the water to feel warmer, but her strength had begun to fade as the cold was getting the best of her. And since she wasn't able to touch the ground beneath her because of the depth of the pool, she had no choice but to get out.

Her teeth were chattering as her vision was locked onto nothingness, just like her mind and thoughts.

What was her brother doing? Did he notice she was missing? Would he be mad at her? What about her boyfriend?

He probably wouldn't even know she was missing, she assumed.

Nya didn't know how, but the low temperature in the room made her feel dizzy and she could barely feel anything. Or could she? She didn't even try, she was too tired, so she just assumed so.

Her eyes slowly began to close as the last thing she remembered was that she was in someone's arms, and the muffled sounds of a worried voice around her.

~ a bit earlier ~

"No, I still haven't found her!" Jay yelled into the phone, frustration clear in his tone.

Ever since the Smith and Walker boys had woken up their friends (Jay was already accepted in the friend group), they had split up and went their different ways.

Jay had chosen to look for Nya on his own because he had some places on his mind as to where she might have been.

His first destination was the park they had gone to weeks prior. It was a beautiful sight, an even more beautiful sight at night with all the shining stars lighting up his way, yet he had no time to waste for looking at some silly stars.

He speed-walked through the many parts of the big park and looked in every direction while doing so. He even looked into the bushes with his phone flashlight, just in case she were to be...

No, he couldn't assume that.

He kept screaming her name, not caring if anyone else could hear him. Nor did he care about the occasional person on his way telling him to shut up.

He didn't have time to care about other people and their 'sleep'. His girlfriend could've been in danger!

He had his priorities.

After Jay realized she wasn't in the park, he quickly drove over to the Mega Monster Amusement Park.

Yes, it was weird to think she was at an amusement park at this time in the night, but you never know.

After he got out of his car and ran up to the front gates, he realized they were locked. There was no way she could've gotten inside.

He frowned as he also started to scream her name there.

Jay tried to look inside through the metal bars, but it was way too dark for him to recognize anything smaller than an attraction. He sighed as he turned around.

Then he realized that his phone was ringing, so he picked up without looking at the caller ID. "Nya?" He asked hastily.

"Not quite." Skylor answered.

"Oh, Skylor. Have you found her?"

She sighed on the other end. "I was gonna ask you the same thing."

Jay groaned, kicking a small rock with his foot, making it fly against a larger one. "Where can she be?! I've looked everywhere now." He whined, on the verge of tears.

"I really don't know. Kai and I went to their old orphanage, and their parents' graveyards, but she was nowhere to be seen!"

"Do you think someone took her?" Jay asked, his voice sore.

"Don't you dare assume that, Walker! She's strong, she should be fine."

"Then where is she? Why does nobody know where she is? I'm worrying about her, Sky." Jay sniffed quietly.

He could hear a small choice word coming out of the redhead's mouth under her breadth. "Look, I can't believe that a time like this has come, but here we are. You've known Nya since her childhood, and I have ever since you were practically gone. We both know how she is, and I'm sure it's nothing serious."

Jay could sense that those encouragements were not just meant for him.

Skylor took a deep breath. "Do you have her trainer's number?"

"Yes, why?"

"I'm pretty sure we're gonna have to tell him that his contestant is missing."

Jay's face fell. He remembered how excited his girlfriend had been about competing in the championships.

"Doesn't Kai have his number?"

"Yeah, well, Kai's pretty much not available at the moment-" There were some whisper noises and rustles before she came back to the phone call. "Just call the trainer and tell him. I gotta take care of Kai. Talk to you later!" She then hung up.

Jay sighed as he pulled the phone away from his ear. He opened the 'contacts' application and looked for John's phone number.

After pressing 'call', the young teacher put the phone back to his ear. It beeped many times before the voicemail came.

Jay groaned as he called him again, and this time, someone picked up.

"Hello?"  The voice on the other end sounded sleepy, Jay probably woke him up.

"Hi, uh, are you John?"

"Yes, who are you?"

Jay took a deep breath. "I'm Jay Walker, Nya's boyfriend."

"Okay? What's up?"

"I called you because..." His voice trailed off, leaving John impatiently waiting.

"Because?"

Jay sighed. "Nya's been missing for a while now, and I'm afraid there's a possibility that she won't make it to the championships."

"What do you mean 'missing'?! What happened?" John's voice sounded serious and worried, the news probably woke him up instantly.

A small tear rolled down Jay's cheek. "She hasn't come home earlier and no one knows where she is." He tried his best to not break down.

"What? Have you looked everywhere? What about the police?"

"We called everyone who knows her and looked everywhere we know. The police wouldn't help us because she's still under the 24-hour-thing." Jay explained.

There was a small pause on the other end before John hummed. "Have you checked the swimming pool?"

"The swimming pool?"

John gasped. "You don't know? Nya said she wanted to train a bit more, so she asked if she could have the keys from me. And now that I think about it, she hasn't returned the keys yet, so she might still be there!"

Jay's eyes widened with hope. "She never told us this! I'll go there right now!"

"Hang on, I'll go there now, too."

"Alright, see you there." Jay hung up as he rushed over to his car and jumped inside.

He tossed his phone onto the passenger's seat and put on his seatbelt hastily before starting up the engine and driving away.

It took him about twenty minutes to drive from the amusement park over to the grand swimming pool. And he was impatient at its finest. He honked every time he had to wait at a red traffic light and screamed at it until it turned green again.

After he arrived, he jumped out of his car and saw a man standing in front of the main doors.

Jay ran up to him. "Are you-"

"John? Yeah. You're-"

"Jay? Yeah. Let's go in!"

Jay put his hand on the door handle and tried to open it, however the door wouldn't budge. "It's locked!" He yelled.

"Maybe she locked it after she left?" John suggested.

Jay groaned before turning to him. "Do you have another key?"

John then rummaged around in his pockets before he held up a silver key as if it were a trophy he had just won. "Try this." He instructed as Jay ripped the key out of his hand and stuck it into the keyhole.

After twisting it a few times, the doors opened. They stormed inside and parted ways to cover more ground.

Jay ran up and down the corridors as he tried to open doors he couldn't see through, only to find nothing interesting. He suddenly came to a halt at the glass doors which led to the pool area.

He looked inside and gasped when he saw someone curled up in a ball in one of the far corners. He looked more closely and sure enough, it was Nya.

His eyes widened. "Nya!" He screamed as he tried to open the doors. After they wouldn't open, Jay tried to open them with the key in his hand. Luckily enough, the doors unlocked, allowing him to storm inside.

Jay ran as if his life depended on it. "Nya!" He yelled before dropping on his knees when he was next to her.

She didn't look at him, her eyes were barely even open.

He put his hand on her shoulder to shake her a bit, only to realize she was freezing cold. He gasped. "Nya! Nya, can you hear me?"

After getting no response, he put off his jacket and quickly wrapped it around her small frame. It was when she freely collapsed in his arms, that he lost it. "NYA!" He yelled, shaking her body and face to somehow get her awake.

Nya's eyes were closed as her head was leaning against Jay's chest, her body limp.

He then lifted her up from the ground bridal style and rushed out of the pool area into the corridor where he saw John running up to them.

"Is she okay?!" He asked.

"No, she just collapsed in my arms."

John gasped. "To the hospital, quick!"

The two stormed out of the building and with just one look, they decided to get into John's car to drive to the hospital together. Jay quickly brought Nya into the back of the car before sitting down himself. He laid her head on his lap and wrapped his arms around her face and waist, hoping it would make her become somehow warmer.

After John took off, Jay pulled out his phone and opened their group chat. He pushed on the voice message symbol and started recoding. "I'm with Nya's trainer right now. We found her in the swimming pool grounds. She's freezing and she just collapsed in my arms. We're heading to the hospital right now!"
