Chapter 12
Tuesday, 11:00 pm.
Nya hated her current situation. She hated it a lot. Looking at herself in the body length mirror inside of her changing room, she hated the fact of her wearing a swimsuit.
Correction, she hated that he was going to be the only one seeing it for weeks. Him and her trainer.
The fact that they were going to be alone in the whole swimming pool didn't really calm her nerves either.
She sighed as she stared at her swimsuit that was, unfortunately, accentuating her figure a lot. For the wrong person.
Grabbing her water bottle and her swimming goggles, she opened the door and made her way over to the big pool. She knew this place very well, due to the fact that her previous swimming lessons were held there many years ago.
Once she came closer towards the pool, she could see Freddy sitting in a white pool chair, drinking what looked like soda out of a can. As much as she could see, he was wearing a pair of red swim trunks. As she was in proximity for him to see, she could see a small grin forming on his face.
She scoffed quietly, making her way over to him and her swimming trainer who was standing there as well. What was odd, though, was that a woman was sitting in one of those chairs as well.
When the trainer saw her walking up to them, he gestured towards a chair. "Hey, take a seat."
She did as she was told. Taking a good look at him, she realized he must've been in his mid twenties. He had black hair and was quite muscular. This was visible even through his white, apparently very thin t-shirt.
"Now that everyone's here, let me introduce myself. I am John Ritzlburg, but since a lot of people tend to get my last name wrong, and you're only two, you can just call me John. As you may already know, we're going to train together to win in the category of swimming in the championships in a few weeks. We'll be here every weekday from eleven to four, so please don't get late. And if you do so, contact me immediately. I assume your Coach has already given you my number?" He asked.
The two students nodded, making him nod in return. "That's good. Since you're two, we'll have to choose who's going to compete and who's going to be a substitute. But we can do that later on, I'll have to see what you can do first. Any questions?"
The woman, who was sitting in her chair and just silently observing, still wouldn't leave Nya's mind. She raised her hand.
"Yes, Smith?"
"Please, just call me Nya." She said first. She had always hated being called by her last name as if she was a grown up adult already. Her trainer nodded understandingly. "Not to sound rude, but who is she?" She tried to sound as politely as possible because she really didn't mean any harm, but she was curious after all.
John smiled, looking at her. "This is my wife, Mandy. Since we have both genders to train, it is a must to have both genders as trainers as well. She will assist me from time to time." His wife smiled back at him and chuckled.
Nya saw the way the two were looking at each other and thought about how cute it actually was how they were probably reading each other's minds.
It reminded her of her own relationship and brought a small smile on her lips.
"Yes, Beckhams?"
This brought her out of her thoughts, making her turn her head to the side to see her classmate taking his hand back down from having it up to ask something.
"Just Freddy, please." The trainer nodded. "What are we gonna do?" He asked.
"The person taking part in the competition will have to swim the most tracks in a thirty-meters-long track in a time period of forty-five minutes."
"Just that?" Freddy raised his eyebrows, shocked at how easy this task seemed.
John nodded. "Since we have more kinds of sports this year, each one will be shorter than last year's." He looked at his watch and realized they had spent about fifteen minutes talking. He clapped his hands together before rubbing them. "Alright, if there aren't any other questions, let's get started with some warm ups."
~ oOoOoOo ~
After a total of almost four hours of warming up and swimming some tracks, all in all the whole day was quite relaxed and nothing seemed rushed or too harsh.
John even let them off earlier than thought, and let them go to their changing rooms to get dressed.
However, before Nya could leave the pool area, she was called to stay back to have a talk with her trainer.
She nodded at John who was waiting for her to come back. Sensing a hint of seriousness in his tone, Nya walked over to him quickly and sat down on a chair opposite him - and his wife.
Why did he want to have a private talk with her? Did she do something wrong? These questions roamed inside of her head as no one started to talk.
"What do you want to talk about?" Nya finally asked, curious and somewhat scared.
John sighed, not looking at her. Instead, he stared at his fingers he was fiddling with. "There's no such thing as having to have trainers of both genders if the genders of the students are mixed."
"What?" Nya frowned.
He then looked at her. "We know about what happened with Freddy." He stated.
Nya stiffened. She immediately expected for them to tell her to 'get tougher' or to 'know how to defend herself', just like everyone else did. But... she could see some sort of softness in both of their eyes.
"I'm so sorry for what you had to go through, Nya." The trainer's wife said, smiling sadly.
The teenager looked back at her male trainer. "How do you..." Her voice trailed off once she remembered they were probably told by the other teachers at her school or got to taste a bit of the rumor on their own.
"Your brother came to talk to me."
Nya's head immediately shot back up and she looked him straight in the eyes at the mention of her brother.
Kai was always a supportive brother and only wanted what was best for his little sister, but going to her trainer to talk to him about something like this was... exactly what her brother would do.
"What did he do?" She asked rather sharply.
"While you were still in school, he came over to our apartment to have a talk this morning. At first I was confused on what he wanted, yet I couldn't just send him away, so he came inside. Then he told me everything that Freddy did and just wanted me to be careful and so on. Halfway through the conversation, my wife joined us." He explained.
Hearing the other female taking a deep breath, Nya looked at her. "I can understand how you must be feeling-"
"No, you can't." Nya quietly murmured to herself, accidentally cutting her off.
Mandy frowned sadly. "Nope, I know exactly what you're going through. After all, the same happened to me when I was in high school."
Nya opened her mouth, however nothing came out.
"That's why she offered to be here." John continued. "Kai is a good person, he only wants the best for you. And having you here with a person like him won't sit right with him. And after he told us, it won't sit right with us either." He began to smile. "Nya, I promise you to do whatever we can to get you two separated as much as possible during training. This whole place is full with active security cameras, only the changing rooms don't have any. If he tries anything, please come to us quickly."
A smile started to form in Nya's face. This was actually one of the rarest moments in which this type of help was offered to her. Heck, these people belonged to the minority that believed her side of the story.
"My changing room is down the corridor yours is in. If he tries to do anything while you're changing, try to get to me as quickly as possible, okay?" Mandy asked.
Nya nodded thankfully.
"Also, if there's anything you want to talk about, but need someone more... female," John chuckled. "you can talk to my wife. You have our numbers, you can talk to both of us at any time. We want you to feel comfortable here." He smiled.
Nya smiled back as happiness radiated off of her. "Thank you. Really, I appreciate it a lot."
Mandy chuckled. "No need to be thankful, it's the least we can do. We won't hold you back any longer, you can go change and spend the rest of the day in peace."
Nya nodded, getting up from her chair and walking towards the changing rooms quickly. For once in a while, she was thankful for how her brother acted with other people about the situation.
