50. Gem's POV: Chasing Feelings
"Cor!" I scramble, trying to run on the hot sand after him. "Cor!" I yell.
Cor doesn't even swivel in my direction as he angrily walks forward. I didn't know you could walk so fast you were basically sprinting.
"Cor!" I yell again, trying to get his attention.
He spins on his heels in the sand and I almost run into him, but luckily I guess my reflexes kicked in.
"Hey, are you okay?" I ask, even though I know he isn't. But the conversation needs to start somewhere.
"No, Gem, I'm not okay. Just let me blow off." He says, and walks off again.
I grab his shoulder and make him face me. "Cor, you need to calm down."
He's giving me a Scorpio glare. Something angels hide from and even demons fear. "Calm down!? My sister is being executed tomorrow! And you're telling me to calm down! You need to leave, Gem." His deep brown hair is messy and his eyes scream anger.
I furrow my brows and let out a long sigh. "Cor, I'm here for you." I lay my hand on his shoulder, but he shrugs it off.
"Well... I don't want you." He looks me straight in my eyes and takes a step backward before turning around and storming off.
I look at the sand in front of me and fall to my knees, watching him go.
So many things have changed.
His dad is Lucas Osbourne, Leona's dad. His sister is hiding out at my parent's house.
Cor said he loved me earlier today, but now he's walking away.
And I'm not even crying, because I can't. None of this is my fault, and it's sad that Ginny is trouble, but she'll be okay. Mom and dad will keep her safe.
I run my hands through my hair, shuffling out more sand than a sand box. My eyes wander out to the ocean horizon, finding nothing but birds and a bright sun shining on my face.
"Do you see it now?" My mom comes to stand behind me. "You two could ever work."
I look up and face her, anger flowing through my body like blood.
Her silver eyes and long black lashes are what all Pisces have, but her's seem so... fake. Like her emotions aren't there.
I look at my car, knowing how easy it would be to just drive away from all of this. Run from everyone. Get Cor and just leave.
My parents never did get along, and for the longest time I thought my mom would just run away. "How are you and dad? Still arguing?"
Dad walks up to us, and for a moment it's like we're an actual family. Perfect, and complete. But no family is complete in this world.
She purses her lips and shrugs. "See you on graduation day" And even though she didn't say yes or no, I know my answer. She waves goodbye, leaving me alone with my dad.
"Yes, mom and I are still arguing. But it's mostly on her part." My dad sits in the sand next to me and I look up at him.
"He's okay, right? Cor?" I ask, crossing my legs and resting my elbows on them. He's a Scorpio, my dad would know how they act.
My dad nods and wraps his arm around me. "I think he'll be just fine, Gem. He's a tough boy."
I squint my eyes at him, remembering what Lucas told me last time I saw him. "Wait, Lucas told me that you send someone once a month to basically spy on me. Is that true?"
My dad sighs and raises both hands. "Yes, but blame it on your mom. She hired Lucas to look after you. I just idly watched."
Lucas? He's the one that checks up on me?
I roll my eyes, but a smile cracks on my face anyways. "You love her though, so you let her."
He snorted. "Me? Love Petra. I'm more likely to love a snake, it's the same thing in the end. Only, with a snake at least it'd at least be quiet."
I raise my eyes and face him. Most would instantly go to stand up for their mom, but from what I've heard my mom isn't the easiest person to get along with. "Woah woah woah, what? What do you mean."
"Don't trust anything she says, Gem. I know I don't." He kisses my head and offers me a small smile. "I couldn't make it to your leaving day back when you were five, because I delivered Ginny that day. Goodbye Gem."
He leaves without another note and I sit alone in the sand.
I take my time walking back to the group, not wanting to answer any questions or talk to any people.
I'm so focused on everything, trying to catch up with my own reality, that I almost missed him.
Something has gone my way today.
"Chancler!" I yell, running up to him and his girlfriend, Penelope.
He spins in my direction, his cancerian blonde and curly hair sparkling in the sun. "Gem," he says awkwardly. "What's up?"
I smile at Penelope and bat my eyes. "Do you mind if I borrow him?"
She shrugs and steps away.
I face him and in a quiet voice I ask, "you said you got it in the mail, what's the address on the envelope?"
He pulls out his phone and hands me it after scrolling through pictures. "That's the envelope." I don't know why he has a picture of it, but I'm glad he does.
It was a sleek, black, envelope with white wax over the opening designed as the Elders crest. It was definitely an Elder's envelope.
On the front it has the Elder's HQ address, and the name Pierce Inter was written in the corner. Aria's dad sent this to Chancler?
"Wow. I never thought..." I let the idea trail off as I faced the ground. I wasn't mad Aria, not in a single way, but I was mad at her father.
Why would he ask Chancler to do such a thing?
"I'm sorry, Gem." Chancler put his hand on my shoulder and brought me into a hug, which I immediately rejected and pushed him off of me.
"Don't touch her!" I was shoved behind a tall man, as they stood in front of me. Cor, of course.
"I didn't!" Chancler said, widening his arms.
"I just saw you!" Cor yelled, his fists balled up so tight I was scared he would start bleeding.
I stood between the two boys and handed Chancler back his phone. "Hey! Knock it off. I'm fine, Cor. He was showing me something."
"He's about to be showing you his black eye if he doesn't get his hands off of you!" Cor growled.
Chancler took a step back and sighed. "I don't want your girl, Cor. First off, it's illegal, and second off I don't have a death wish... say, aren't you two an illegal pair?"
I nod. "One hundred percent. He just treats me like a sister." I smile at Chancler until I realize what I said.
Cor does have a sister, who is in a lot of trouble right now. And me kind of sort of bringing up the subject probably isn't helping him cope with it.
"Just leave her alone." Cor wrapped his arm around my shoulder and walked away, heading towards the cars.
However, our trip is cut short when we hear screaming coming out of a girl's voice.
