45. Petra's POV: Lucas Osbourne

Things are always going to change in the world. Whether it be for good... or for bad... things will always change. I know that. But that doesn't mean I can't put all of my power into stopping something from changing.

I breath slowly, listening to the surroundings, trying to calm down my fast beating heart.

I never really had anxiety like most people, but I'm guessing this is how it would feel.

"Petra." A low, husky, voice comes from behind me.

I don't scare easy, but this voice had a way of sending chills down my back, causing me to jump in my seat.

"Lucas, how— how nice to uh... see you." I stutter out.

Outside the coffee shop, dozens of people stood holding up signs and photos, cameras flashed from every angle.

I tried as best as I could to hide my face. Last thing I needed was a scandal buzzing about my name, saying that I had a secret love life with thee Lucas Osbourne.

Scorpius wouldn't give a dam if he was one of the richest men alive. Scorpius would flay him alive.

Plus, Lucas was well... not my perfect Zodiac.

He was just a friend. A colleague. An old classmate.

"As well as you, Petra." Lucas maneuvered his way around me, just slightly touching my hand. "But sadly, this isn't just a hello."

After a moment of strong silence, Lucas struts over to the tall windows and pulls the blinds down so all the sun is cut off from us.

It's just me and him.

He rented out the coffee shop.

"As you know, our children are being... hired... as the new Elders. And well, frankly only 13 of them are living. Only two lives are certain and that is those of the Geminis." Lucas looks out, unfocused and completely lost.

It's odd to see him like this. He's normally fun and spontaneous and free of fear.

But not now. That's all I see. Is his fear for his daughter, for his pride and joy.

"Yes, I understand. What can we do? Tell the other parents?" I shake my head, keeping myself calm in this position.

"Right now, nothing. I'm taking Leona and hiding her. But that's not why I called, Petra. Your daughter is causing quite the stirrup." Lucas doesn't talk to my face, but to the wall behind me. "If she continues on the path she's taking, she will be hurt and suffer consequences."

I blink my eyes at him and stand up from my chair. My arms are thrown to the side as anger boils in me. "What? Lucas. What is happening?"

Lucas wipes his eyes, I hadn't realized he was crying.

"She kissed him, Petra. They are completely in love. Her and the Scorpio boy, Cor. I don't think a force on this earth could separate them." Lucas sniffles and shakes his head slowly in his palm. "And the thing about it is, she thinks she's so smart to just dump him. But it doesn't work like that. Once you're in love virtually nothing could stop it."

"You talk from experience, huh? Why did you come here to tell me things I already knew? Lucas you found something else, didn't you?" I'm a Pisces, I know people. I can tell what people are thinking, and he's hiding something.

"I'm hiding the boy's sister. I'm leaving this up to you, I can turn her in and divert the current attention on Gem and Cor to this case, and they'll become Elders and Gem can change the rules." Lucas hands me a picture of a girl with pretty dirty blonde hair and yellow eyes. "That's the love of my life." He wipes the underneath of his eyes. "Not allowed to be with her, of course, but I love her. I'd do anything to keep her happy."

I look up at him, clutching the photo in my hand. "Why are you telling me this? Why are you helping me so much? I understand my daughter is best friends with yours but why?"

"I'm going to explain things to you, Petra. Very secretive things. You can't tell anyone." Lucas's purple eyes hold intensity that startled even me, and I love with a stressful Scorpio. "I don't give a living crap about your daughter. She's a smart girl, but her future doesn't affect me in any way."

"Excuse me!? Who the hell do you think you are? That's my daughter you're talking about. Your—"

"Yes, I know Petra. That was taken to far I know. I was just trying to say that I'm not helping you for the sake of your daughter. Can I explain to you why without being cut off, please?" He doesn't seem angry, or sad, or happy. He's devoid of every emotion, it seems.

I nod, letting him continue on.

"That right there is Cor's mom. It's also the mother of his half sister, Ginny. After high school, she got pregnant with Cor. She wasn't in trouble because we all thought he was Liam's, her Gemini husband's, but he wasn't."

"He was yours." I finish.

He nods silently. "I am Cor Reynolds biological father. I would do anything to save him, trust me on that."

I swallow.

That boy is in deeper crap than any human being on this planet. Well except for maybe Lucas, his father.

"Is his sister yours?" I ask.

He shrugs. "Leona? His half sister? Oh yeah, she's mine one hundred percent. Ginny? No, that is her and Liam's child. She was an accident, and I'm hiding her. But I can give her up, and save both Gem and Cor."

I take a seat on the ground and rub my face. "You can't ask me to trade that little girl's life for, for a, for nothing but a diversion!"

Lucas raises his eyebrows at me. "They have a new way to deal with inappropriate couples. Pain. Lots and lots of it. I guess Gem and Cor can just, waltz away into a burning sensation everyday of their life. Not so much off into the sunset—"

"Do it. Turn her in." The words fly out of my mouth like a sailor cussing. "Save our children."
