4. Gem's POV: Couch and Tea
Song for chapter: You don't own me by Grace and G-Eazy
I panic and fight against Cor's grip. That man on the floor might deserve what he's getting, but that doesn't mean Arius and Aris can beat him to death. Plus, I don't think I can stand to see Arius and Aris in jail for manslaughter.
I knee Cor in the side, getting nothing but an "oof" in response. I go for the more... Fragile position.
He drops down to his knees, growling and cussing. "Fu**" He yells, rolling on the floor. I use this to my advantage and lunge at Arius, pulling him back from the man.
He looks at me, red in the face. "He put his hands on you! As cliché as this sounds, I'll kill him!" Arius starts to go back, but I pull his arm.
I look over to the man sobbing on the floor. Aris did quite a number on his face. It looks like that's the only place he hit.
"That's against the law!" I say, with no success in pulling him back.
Arius rolls his eyes. "I'll break the law if it means you're okay." He says, breathing heavily.
I drop my hand from his arm, and move it slowly down so I'm touching his hand. "I'm okay." I say to him. "I'm fine."
He looks at the man on the floor, scowling but not going for another punch.
Virlon comes to stand next to me, his emerald eyes reflecting every light that came across them. "I agree with Gem. That's enough violence for one night. Taria and Aria, Gem and Chancler." Virlon slowly pulls me to the side and sets me on the couch.
Pi sits next to me and rests her hand on my knee.
Chancler... That guy must have been a Cancer. I don't understand. Why would a Cancer try to hurt me?
"Cancers are the most likely to be arrested, you know." Pi says, giving me a slight smile. "I mean seriously though, whoever told Chancler to do that couldn't have gone with something a little less cliché? Girl almost has sex with guy she doesn't like at party, girl gets saved, total cliché."
I tilt my head to the side. "What do you mean?" I ask, thinking about Cance. "Aren't you with Ancer?" Ancer, is the other Cancer I've spent thirteen years if my life with. "How do you know someone told him to do it?" Pi and I have never been great friends, I think I've even made her cry once, but she is the go to girl if you want to know something. She'll help me out with this, at least I hope anyways.
She nods once. "Supposed to be with anyways." She rolls her head. "But Cancers don't have great mental stability. They're brave, loyal, and self absorbed. They love more deeply than most of us signs, especially you, no offense. That isn't a good combination when they're mad, drunk, and..." She laughs a little bit. "Craving you know what. And as for who told Chancler to do it... I don't know. But I do know Chancler, and I know he would do anything for a quick buck." But I also know he's normally a pretty good person. Just like that one." She points to Cance.
I shake my lightly and laugh a little bit, but not in a happy way. More in a surprised way. "I had no idea!" I exclaim, thinking about how much I despised Cance. Nobody could be that perfect. I knew something wicked was going through her brain. Cancers are the most likely to go to jail... I don't know why that surprises me.
Pi nods. "Quite commen. I think she's the most dangerous of us all... You know what she said..." Pi stops talking abruptly and leaves the room, walking out the front door.
That was weird.
Cor comes and lifts me up by my elbow. "C'mon, let's get you home." Cor says.
I actually laugh at him. "You think I want to go home? You must have me mixed up with someone else!" I yell, giggling.
I'm drunk. I'm still drunk. I probably won't remember any of this tomorrow. Good thing, right?
He continues pulling me to the door. "Arius told me to take you home, he'll be there in an hour."
I stop and he pulls so hard I fall to the ground. It's not like I have much balance in the first place. "I can take care of myself!" I yell, but it sounds like I'm imitating Daffy Duck.
"Okay, your balance is a lot worse than I thought. I'm sorry you fell, but we need to go." He helps me up, not looking near as sorry as he sounded. "Arius wants you back home." He continues walking to the car, holding my hand.
People are staring, watching, laughing. I can't stand public humiliation. It bugs me like no other.
Cor opens up the passenger door to my car. "C'mon, Gem. Get in." He says.
I wink at him, "You know you're extremely hot?" I flirt, and push him against my car. "But even Channing Tatum, who's a Taurus by the way, won't be allowed to drive my car."
Cor winks at me. "I'm hotter than Channing Tatum." Cor leans against me. "How much you wanna' bet I'll drive your car." He says, breathing against my neck.
I put my hands on his chest. "You know what else your driving?" I ask, but after I say it I realize how dirty it sounds. I open my eyes as he smiles, surprised that he's not turning away, screaming that he has a girlfriend. Cance is his girlfriend, right?
"You don't have anything on Channing Tatum." I'm suddenly sitting in the passenger seat, this is the first time I've ever sat here. Huh, it's comfy.
He sighs. "I'm glad I don't have anything on Channing Tatum, that means he doesn't have anything on me." Cor smiles as he shuts the door.
He walks around the front of the car, sliding over my precious car's hood.
I jump out of my seat and run to the front of the car. I bend down to rub away any scruff mark. But that will scratch it more!
I start to run inside, to go grab a bucket of water, when warm hands wrap around my stomach.
"Cor, stop. I have a boyfriend you know, you can't keep flirting." I laugh, leaning into Cor. "But your stubborn, so I guess my words don't mean anything."
The grip tightens on my stomach. "C'mon babe, let's go get you to your dorm. I don't know why we even go to these parties." Arius says, sighing. He doesn't really like coming to these types of things, but always ends up going.
I turn and Arius kisses my forehead softly.
"Why do I have to go home at all?" I ask, looking into Arius's aqua colored eyes. His eyes, instantly make any girl swoon. Did I just say swoon? Maybe I'm drunker than I thought. He might have pretty eyes, and he might be adorable, but there is one flaw I can't get over. He's not romantic, he doesn't try, and acts like we're not even dating sometimes.
The music blares from Leo's dorm-house and I start swaying to the song. I lightly walk/skip/sway towards the beat. I want to be in the crowd.
"Oh, no you don't." Arius holds me back.
I look up at him, my bottom lip quivering. "Ass." I say, stepping on his tow with my converse. It must not hurt very much, because he doesn't even flinch. I giggle. "I didn't know you were strong, Mr. Muscle Man!" I poke his nose.
Arius rolls his eyes. "You really need sleep."
I wrap my arms around his neck. "Why? I'm drunk. You're sober. You could totally use this to your advantage. Why go home?" I laugh, reaching in for a kiss.
Arius twists his head just in time, to where my lips come in contact with his cheeks.
Arius looks at the ground. "Last time." He says and lets me slip from his grip. "You can't get drunk like this." He puts both hands on my shoulders. "Do you not remember what happened last time? Surely you do?"
I nod. It's the only reason I value Arius's opinion over practically everyone's. "I'm sorry." I hug Arius.
He gives me a sympathetic look. "You got so lucky..." He says. "If I hadn't been there..."
I lick my bottom lip. "You could get luck-" Arius puts his hand over my mouth.
"I don't want to." He says. "I want you to go home, where you'll be fine. You won't be getting hurt... Not this time." He points to my car.
I look at him like he's crazy. "No." I say, almost singing it. "You don't own me!" I yell, running back to the house before he can catch up.
I run inside, instantly colliding with someone. Whoever that someone is, spills red punch down my white spaghetti strap tanktop. I'm not wearing anything fancy; a plain white spaghetti tank top, a black, white, and read flannel tied around my waist, jean shorts, and a pair of white converse. "Watch where y—" I realize that the person I ran into was Cance. "You!" I say angrily. She spilled red punch... all over me.
Cance shakes her head slightly. "So sorry, Gem. I have extra clothes in my car."
I would say no, but my outfit is completely DESTROYED. This will never wash out. I won't be able to wear this again. I liked this undershirt, it fit well.
Instead of waiting for me to answer, Cance starts to run to her car.
I walk inside, not following her.
My vision blurrs and things start to become doubles. The ground looks lower than it is, I can see how my legs look longer than normal.
Cance runs up to me and hands me some fabric—clothes their called clothes.
The alcohol is settling in. It's finally messing with every part of my body.
"...just wish I wasn't so clumsy." Cance finishes her sentence and walks away.
Word from the wise; don't ever talk to me while I'm drunk.
I have no idea what Cance said, I already forgot. I throw the clothes to a shadow approaching me from my right and walk into the double doors. Nice, I didn't know Leo had double doors.
I stumble in, tripping and tumbling.
A couple makes out on the couch. A group of people sit on the couch, passing around a joint.
I walk over and practically fall into a mans lap. I take the joint from their mouth and inhale a big breath.
The group laughs as I stagger up from the man, not even being able to recall where I am anymore.
I find my way into the crowd and dance with strangers. I rarely see anyone from school. I'm not sure who Cor called, but it must have been a someone, not a nobody.
Pi, Seas, Virlon, and Aquaria are playing spin the bottle. I could join them... Or I could keep dancing.
Cora comes by and whispers something into their ears.
Their faces become scared, struck with sadness, and they immediately stand to leave the party. I shrug it off and continue dancing.
Cora starts walking to me. I think that whatever happened must be important enough to tell me. But instead of whispering into my ear, Cora does what nobody else could do... She pulls me out of the party.
