10. Gem's POV: Just keep running

Song for chapter- Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Diana Ross

The weather is slowly getting colder. I didn't even really realize it until Leona reached over and turned on Aria's heater. Okay, tried to turn on the heater.

"Doesn't work." Aria said as she drove down the highway to the dorms. "I have to get it fixed, but I'm always too busy."

Aria, unlike Aris, drives semi-sanely. But it's still ten miles over the limit. "You're going to get pulled over." I laugh, looking through the window and into the cold dark night.

Aria shakes her head. "Nope. They won't. They know there's no point."

I laugh and shut my mouth. Of course, it's Aria. She's had more suspensions than anyone, including Aris. She's right when she said she wouldn't learn her lesson.

"Well, I know who to call if I'm running late for school." Leona mutters. "Although, I have more tardies than even you." She spins to look at me.

I open my mouth in shock, but I know it's true. "I am not late that much!" I playfully hit her shoulder. "I just like my sleep."

Leona shakes her head with laughter. "You sound like Tori!"
***
Track on Tuesday is going to murder me. I might just flop dead like a fish out of water.

Just thinking about it makes me tired.

I go through my contacts, trying to find Arius's name. When I do find it, I sigh. He can't jog with me. He's probably still in the hospital.

Who is athletic? Who might go out jogging?

Cor? Haha no, he's not the type. Maybe if he has to.

Aria? No. Leona? Definitely no, she hates sweat.

Capricorns. They like sports. I find Capri and Ric's numbers. I can't trust either of them. But if I had to pick between the lesser of two evils, Ric is the one.

I call Ric and after three rings his voice mail pops up. Of course he doesn't answer, because why would life be easy?

I sigh and call Capri. She answers almost immediately. "Hello?" She asks.

I roll my eyes, knowing I could be making a mistake. But things are always better with other people.

"Hey, it's Gem." I say, sounding perkier than I feel.

I can practically see her rolling her eyes. "Well, obviously. You do know I have ID on my contacts. You don't have to announce who you are."

I go through my drawers, pulling out track shorts and a gray t-shirt. I pin my phone between my ear and my shoulder, so I could change and talk at the same time. "Anyways," I ignore her rude comment. "I was wondering if you wanted to go jogging." I'm hopeful she'll say yes, because otherwise, my legs will hate me. For me it's always better to pace with other people.

"Yeah, sure. Is Arius coming?" She asks, knowing I always jog with him.

Aquaria comes into the dorm room carrying five bags of groceries. I mentally slap myself... Why didn't I just ask her?

"No, he's in the hospital." I grab my lanyard and tuck it underneath my shirt.

She sighs. "Oh well, he'll be fine, hopefully." She laughs on the other end. "Meet me outside." She hangs up.

I tell Aquaria where I'm going and she nods, saying something about going to Li's.

I meet Capri outside, she's already jogging in place. "You're not cold?" She asks, glancing up and down at my outfit.

Grey shorts. Grey shirt. Pink and black nikes. "Nope." I say, jogging forward.

Even with my head start, Capri catches up easily. "C'mon Gem. You're the long distance runner."

She mocks me. We haven't even left the female dorm grounds, and I'm out of breath. "That doesn't mean I don't get tired," I say.

Capri shakes her head and speeds up, forcing myself to push harder.

She can run, that's for sure. "So, rumor has it that you and Cor are going out." She smirks as I struggle to keep up.

How did people know?

I scoff and listen to the soothing sound of my sneakers hitting the ground. "Nah, I would be lucky to have a full conversation with him." I say, adding a sigh to the end of the sentence.

She nods along. "Not like you need to anyways. We're during our senior year, and you and Arius are made for eachother. Literally. Are you sure you and Cor aren't going for it?"

I get mad for a second. "Yes!" I snap.

My lungs feel like death and I stroll to a walk. "Let's take a break."

Capri doesn't agree. "No." She says with attitude. "Taking a break means giving up. You have to keep going, no matter what." Capri tugs me forward.

I know she's right. That doesn't mean I care. "I'm so tired though!" I haven't ran in what— three days? I got over a hangover. I'm in all honesty, completely dead.

Capri realizes this and stops pushing me. "Fine." She shrugs and turns away from me. "Run by yourself." She runs ahead. "Gotta keep going."

My feet slowly drag forward, picking my pace up. "Says the one who is the most determined, it's easy for you." I mutter next to Capri.

"Says the one who is dating her wrong sign." She mutters back.

I snap. I run in front of her, causing Capri to stop and fall to her knees. I feel bad and help her up, but I'm mad enough to the point where she doesn't matter. "What the hell was that for? Do you have no feelings?" She scowls.

I widen my eyes at her. "More than you can imagine." I retaliate. "Why do you think I have something with Cor?"

Capri rolls her eyes. "That's what happens when you plan a date at the place I work at." She smirks. "Who do you think Cor called to plan a date at the Waterfront Cafe? I know his voice, and when he said Scorpio and Gemini I knew he was talking about you!" She rubs her knees, almost crying but not quite.

Capri knows. "Sorry to disappoint you, but here's the thing, I'm allowed to go places with friends." Possibly? Will that slide past her? In all honesty we are going as friends.

Capri continues jogging forward, determined to run, not even caring about her scraped knees. "I'll see on Tuesday. I took the shift."

I let her leave and glare at her.

Whatever happened between Leona and Leo, she was the cause. She was the cause.

And now, she might end a perfectly good friendship.

I've written the next like— four chapters... But my wifi messed up and I was so mad😂. Anyways, srry it took so long.

And let me tell you, it's about to get REAL!! I have nothing against Capricorns, but my brother is one and he— I'm not even gunna start, lol.

Haven't seen him in a while gunna have to drive over there— I said I wasn't gunna start!!

Anyways, I don't know a whole load about Capricorns, never really been friends with them sadly even though you guys are great, so any tips about Capricorns— or any sign really— would be much appreciated!!!

Hope you guys enjoy the sweet sweet torture of me saying it's about to get exciting and then me not posting for another week *insert smiling demon here* and...

As always, stay happy, stay gold,
