Chapter 1 part 4 - The Bar
A/N - I own everything in this story and I tried my best to make it historically accurate, but no promises though, as I might have to look up websites and such to make sure it's accurate since I forgot nearly everything I learnt in my old history class as I only remember the most important parts, but not the minor details. I hope you guys enjoyed it.
Outside of a bar at night time, Dorothy waits in a pink dress, hat and high heels as she yawns and looks like she was about to sleep until she sees George running up to her.
"... About time..." Dorothy thought.
"Sorry I'm late, it's just that I have to take my nephews and niece to school," George told her, "And considering how kids are, it's pretty difficult to convince them to go unless I'll tell them I give them candies,"
"Hehe, wow," Dorothy chuckled, "Children must be hard to raise, isn't it?"
"...Yeah..." George looks down, which Dorothy notices.
"You okay?"
"Oh, it's okay, how about we get a drink?" George asked her as he opens the door for her.
"Oh...ahem, thank you..."
"You welcome," George said as the two enters the bar and sees a European female bartender with dark brown hair, moustache and green eyes.
"Hello, How may I... Oh..." The bartender was about to greet them until she notices the odd pairing, so she whispers to Dorothy, "A... ahem... are sure it's a good idea to be around with a black man?"
"Anybody who isn't a jerk is a good idea to be around... unlike my fiancé," Dorothy told her, which George caught her saying and gulps.
"... Oh no... she has a fiancé?!" George thought in panic and starts sweating a bit, "Oh dear lord... what if he finds out and I accidentally ruin her life... along with me being framed with kidnapping due to my skin colour..."
"You sure you're okay?" Dorothy asked him.
"Y... yes, I am fine," George lied to her, "Well, how about we get our drinks then, shall we?"
"Okay then," Dorothy replied and turns to the bartender, "So we would like some red wine... and... ahem..."
"Beer,"
"Okay, and beer too," Dorothy ordered.
"Right away, ma'am," the bartender said as she starts making the drinks while the two sits down on the seats.
"So... you have... a fiancé..." George said as he bites his lips in an awkward and nervously manner.
"Don't get the wrong idea, it's not because I'm marrying him for love," Dorothy told him, "It's just that my family want me to since he's the heir of the Blackwood family,"
"What's so special about them?" George asked as the bartender gives them their drinks, "Thanks,"
"You welcome," the bartender replied as she gives him the bill and he gives her some money and a bit of a tip as she leaves.
"Huh? That's a bit more then what the bill says," Dorothy pointed out as she notices the amount in the bill.
"It's called tipping," George told her, "Wait... you're not from here?"
"No... I'm from London," Dorothy told him.
"Oh, I didn't know you're British," George said, "And... you don't have tipping there?"
"Nope," Dorothy told him, "We don't do tipping in England, at least, when you order at the counter, fast foods, cafeterias or for coffee. Heck, not even pubs, clubs and bars, so tipping is not a big deal in the U.K. like it is here, and if you're expected to tip in a restaurant, it's only about ten per cent,"
"... Can I move to the UK, then?" George asked, which Dorothy bursts out laughing her butt off, which he ends up laughing too. "So-Sorry... I guess the idea of not having to tip majority of the time is quite an appealing concept, especially when I don't have a lot of money,"
"How comes?" Dorothy asked.
"... Me... my family is very poor..." George told her, "That's all I'm going to say... the only reason I was able to make a bit of money is getting into boxing,"
"I see..." Dorothy said as she takes a sip of her wine, "...You know... I wish I wasn't born sometimes... maybe I wouldn't have to deal with the situation... and suffer the same fate as my younger sister..."
"...I understand that feeling all too well..." George admitted.
"...I guess, even if you're wealthy, it doesn't mean anything when it comes to family problems," Dorothy joked a bit.
"Hehe, yeah, that's so true," George chuckled as he takes a chunk of his beer, "So... after this... is this a one-time thing or do we get to see each other more often?"
"...I was hoping with the latter," Dorothy replied.
"Good, because I was thinking the same thing," George said, "Toast?"
Dorothy raises her glass of wine while George raises his beer.
"Toast... to our new friendship," Dorothy said as the drinks clash and the two starts drinking their alcohols.
