1 | The Meeting
Heels clicking on the marble floor below her, Elizabeth made her way towards the ballroom, her pale blue dress swishing as she walked. She sighed as she neared the polished oak panels, the sight of hundreds of people chattering in the bright light made her stomach churn. She gave herself a once-over; smoothing the wrinkles on her dress taking extra time to make sure that her heels were strapped tightly as to not embarrass herself like last time. She stared at her reflection in the semi-clear glass before raising her head high and walking into the ballroom.
She walked carefully, trying to find someone she knew in the sea of people. She eventually gave up and grabbed a flute of champagne from a passing waiter and asked him quietly where the restroom was. She nodded as he responded, she made her way to the restroom sticking to the outskirts of the ballroom, as she neared the hallway she was stopped by a cry. She grimaced as she recognized the cry, she looked down to see an orange cat hissing at her, emerald eyes glowing with hate.
"Sorry Fred," she muttered.
"There you are," Arthur huffed as he ran toward her, "I thought I would never find you. Mom and Dad have been driving me up a wall."
Elizabeth groaned. "What do they want now?" she questioned.
"The usual," he shrugged, "Dance with some guy, meet their work friends, find a potential suitor, the list goes on."
"Give me a sec," she murmured before she guzzled her champagne whilst Arthur stared amusedly at his older sister. They then walked towards the stage placed at the centre of the room, greeting guests as they went. They spotted their father in a charcoal grey suit with a matching tie, dark hair gelled back, shoes shining and a pair of round glasses on his nose. Their mother, in a cream coloured gown, embellished with gold trim, her auburn hair in an elegant bun and minimalistic makeup on her face. She was speaking excitedly with a group of ladies before her face twisted into a sneer as she saw Elizabeth.
"Elizabeth darling, how lovely to see you here," a smile of mockery curled at her lips, "I'm sure you remember Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Greene."
Elizabeth smiled politely at the three women whilst Arthur slipped away to the food table, "It's lovely to see you all again."
They scanned Elizabeth from head to toe before turning towards her mother.
"She's quite pretty Beatrice, I'm sure you could find her a nice husband," Mrs Greene remarked as she twirled her glass of champagne.
"I would but I don't know of anyone who would want this creature to marry their son."
Elizabeth's eyes narrowed as the four women laughed. She turned towards her father, "I'll be leaving now, have a good night William."
She walked towards the exit, trying to avoid the twirling couples. She muttered angrily to herself as she walked towards the exit. Her insides flared with rage, how dare they treat her like scum? As she neared the exit, her eyes fell on the person she wished she'd never see again, Kim Seokjin. He was unmistakeable in his crisp white suit and dark hair, a teasing smirk on his lips as girls stared at him. The air around him crackled with arrogance and testosterone.
She immediately turned around and walked to the long oak table at the corner of the room, her eyes feasting on the colourful arrays of sweets and pastries. She spared a glance over her shoulder seeing Seokjin encircled by countless girls. She sighed in relief before grabbing another flute of champagne and downing the bubbly liquid. Her eyes searched the glittering ballroom for another means of escape, her search was in vain, the only exit was the front.
She weaved her way through the crowds of people, keeping her head down as to not attract any attention. She closed her eyes scolding herself for ever coming to this party. Her eyes shot open as she bumped into someone, "Oh I'm so sorry!"
A tinkling laugh reached her ears as she looked up, her mouth opened slightly as she looked into the face of the man she bumped into. His eyes a glowing amber, his skin golden in the light of the chandeliers, his plump lips curled into a kind smile and his chestnut hair parted.
"You're staring," he remarked cheekily, his lips pulling up into a wider smile, his eyes nearly disappearing with the action. Elizabeth swallowed, her cheeks heating up as she pulled herself a bit further away from him, apologies spewed from her lips. The man laughed once more before holding out a hand to Elizabeth.
"Care to dance?"
Elizabeth smiled, one dance couldn't hurt, and so she placed her hand into his and they glided onto the dance floor. Their bodies moved in sync as they waltzed to the orchestra.
"I didn't expect you to say yes," The man confessed, "You looked like you were in a hurry."
Elizabeth laughed lightly, "I was but then I thought, once dance would be payment for bumping into you."
He chuckled as spun Elizabeth around, "I'm Jimin by the way, Park Jimin."
"Elizabeth Mitchell, lovely to meet you."
"Likewise," He remarked, "May I know why you were in such a rush to leave Miss Mitchell?"
"Elizabeth's just fine Mr. Park," she paused as she debated telling him the truth or not, she decided on the former, "Trying to get away from the crowds."
A slight frown tugged on Jimin's lips as he considered her answer, impossible, she wouldn't be walking through the crowd if she wanted to get away from it, he decided not to pursue the point as they had just met.
The song ended and they bowed to each other, Jimin took her hand in his and held it to his lips, never breaking eye contact. He kissed her hand softly, her heart palpitated in her chest.
"Thank you for the dance Elizabeth," He whispered, "I hope to see you again."
Elizabeth was frozen, she had forgotten how to speak, how to breathe, how to move yet she managed to nod stiffly. He carefully let go of her hand and disappeared into the crowd. She stood there a few seconds longer before turning around and walking out the exit. Her mind entranced by the charming stranger she met.
