Talent Show
A/N: Because Mr. Pevensie's name is unknown in the books and movies, we're going to name him 'Henry' in this story.
After school, Dawn stayed in to do her homework and practice her singing for the Spring Talent Show along with some students who signed up for it, while her boyfriend and his siblings took the subway train back home. The Pevensie siblings planned to attend the talent show to watch her performance that evening, but their parents had no idea that Dawn, whom they forbid them to go near her, will be performing. Dawn exercised her vocals and sang one of her favourite Italian opera songs 'Mio Caro Bene" from Handel: Rodelinda, which she planned to perform for this event, while Miss Carlyle, one of the music teachers in her school, played the piano to that song.
"That was excellent, Dawn!" Miss Carlyle said impressively. "It would not be too difficult for you to score this performance!"
"Do you really think so?" Dawn smiled. Miss Carlyle nodded yes.
"Just make sure you stay in good condition through the talent show, alright?" She looked at her with a serious look.
"Yes, Miss Carlyle." Dawn replied.
"Wish you luck, Dawn." Miss Carlyle said and she left the music room.
"Thank you." Dawn finished.
Dawn headed out of the music room with her suitcase and to the change room. She took out a long lavender dress with long sleeves out of her suitcase. The dress once belonged to her paternal grandmother, Anne when she was a young woman until she had outgrown it and it was given it to her. The dress was old, but otherwise in a good condition. Dawn looked at the dress and smiled. She changed herself into her Grandma Anne's lavender dress from her school uniform and the dress hugged her waist very well. It smelled like lilies and saffron, just like her grandmother. My grandma must've looked beautiful in this. She thought, and exited the change room to join the other performers sitting and practicing in the rooms backstage, excited and nervous about the talent show.
That evening, many people gathered by the school auditorium finding their seats. A lot of the audiences were family members, friends and some students in the school. Among them, were Dawn's parents, her siblings Jane and Daniel, the four Pevensie siblings and their parents, Henry and Helen. Samuel and Penelope couldn't be more excited for their daughter Dawn's performance, hoping for their daughter's bright future to come eventually. The Pevensies and the Jamesons seated themselves quite further away from each other to avoid noticing, greets and niceties. After minutes or audiences indistinct chattering, the Talent Show was about to begin as one of the teachers who was in charge of this event came up to the stage to welcome all the audiences and made an announcement of who and what will they be performing on stage. The Talent Show was very interesting to watch. Some students performed singing, played musical instruments to some classical and bubbly music such as piano, violin, flute and cello. And some showed off their skits and their acting on stage.
And now, the moment of truth. It was time for Dawn's performance. She took a few deep breaths to hold her composure, thinking to herself that she could do this and that she won't let her family, her friends and her boyfriend down. Just then, stage curtains open again to reveal Dawn. Samuel looked at his daughter very astonished as he recognized what she was wearing up there. Helen and Henry sighed and slightly looked away to the other direction.
"She's wearing my mother's old dress." Samuel said to his wife.
"Shhh.." Penelope whispered back. "I know. She looks amazing, doesn't she?" He nodded.
Miss. Carlyle then started playing the piano as she and Dawn got ready. She listened to the beginning part of the music and then she opened her mouth and began to sing.
Mio caro bene!
Caro, caro,

non ho più e pene al cor
non ho più e pene al cor
non ho più affa-nni
piu, non, ho,
non ho più pene al cor

The whole audience cheered and applauded. Dawn's parents stood up from their seats and clapped for her and gave her big thumbs up, Some people even stood up and clapped including Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. They were the ones who clapped and cheered the loudest. Helen and Henry just sat down and clapped without even a smile.
"Yay, Dawn! That was amazing!" Peter called out as he gave his girlfriend thumbs up.
"You go, girl!" Susan cheered.
"Woo-hoo!" Edmund yelled as he thrust his fist up in the air. Lucy jumped up and down while squealing and clapping. Helen and Henry shot their children sharp looks. They saw the look of their parents and they sat back down. Dawn took bows and walked out of the stage, couldn't believe that she nailed her performance at the school Talent Show. And soon after, the Spring Talent Show was finished. Dawn changed back into her uniform and headed out to the school lobby where she met up with her parents and siblings.
"Dawn, that was beautiful!" Her mother wrapped her arms around her. "You did an amazing job!"
"Aww, thanks, mum." Dawn smiled.
"Your voice was truly...angelic!" Jane said dramatically.
"And...eeeep!" Daniel squealed. "That totally rocked!"
"Thank you, all." Dawn said gratefully.
"That was the most beautiful performance I ever saw, dear." Samuel told his daughter proudly.
"Thanks, dad. You're all the greatest." She hugged her father. "I'm going to go meet up with some friends." She reminded her parents and siblings.
"Don't take too long." Penelope said. "We reserved for dinner at 7:30 at an Italian restaurant."
"Alright." Dawn giggled. She moved away from them and ran towards the Pevensie siblings who were also at the lobby and their parents were hardly seen with them.
"Peter!" Dawn called out in a whisper. Peter and his siblings noticed her. She ran to her boyfriend and jumped into his arms. Peter hugged her, laughing.
"Dawn, you have such a beautiful voice!" Peter said impressively.
"As always." Susan smiled.
"Congrats, Dawn." Edmund patted her back.
"You were amazing!" Lucy said. "You're so going to be famous."
"That wouldn't be until long run, Lu." Dawn giggled. "But thank you."
"Thanks, guys." She said. "Thank you all for coming." Peter smiled and kissed her forehead. "I love you." He spun her around. "I love you too, Pete." Dawn smiled. Then they heard some laughs and snorts from a group of boys nearby.
"Did you see her back there on stage?" One of the boys snickered. "I thought she was whining like a 4 year-old brat!"
Peter turned and looked at the boys. "She's better than you will ever be."
"Oooh~!" Another boy in the gang said in a high pitched voice. "We'll see about that!" While a few other bully boys started snickering and mocking Dawn's singing voice. "Why you.." Peter snarled and tried to walk up to them with a death glare, but was held back by Susan and Lucy.
"Peter, no!" Susan reprimanded her brother. "Not here!" Peter frowned. "But they__" Lucy gave him a look. "No..."
"Yeah, Peter. Listen to your little bitty sisters and your brother." The boys laughed and walked away. Peter relaxed his arms and his sisters let go of them. Dawn sighed and walked away.
"Don't listen to them, Dawn." Susan tried to comfort her friend. "They're just jealous."
Peter walked to Dawn. "Hey...are you okay?" He asked.
"Yes." Dawn said in a low tone voice. "I guess not everyone likes my singing."
"Not everyone has to." Peter replied. "But I liked it." Dawn smiled and wrapped her arms around her boyfriend, whispering thanks. Peter smiled and hugged back. Dawn checked her watch. "I got to go." She said. "I'm going out for dinner with my parents and my siblings at 7:30." Peter nodded. "Okay see you later." He kissed her cheek. "See you." She kissed his cheek in return and rushed back to her parents, Jane and Daniel.
