~Spring 1939~
In the district of Finchley, located in north London, England, lived the Pevensie and the Jameson families. They have lived in this humble, middle class neighborhood ever since their children were born. The Pevensies consisted with four children while the Jamesons consisted with three. Both families were also next door neighbors in the district. In a pretty beige colored house with brown roofs next to the Pevensie house, lived a young teenage girl, who has awoken from her last night's sleep, always trying to be happy.
Dawn Jameson was a beautiful girl in all of Finchley, with musical and artistic talents, and the beauty of the family. Her long straight dark hair tangled from her sleep and her skin was glowing from the morning sun. She had bags beneath her brown eyes as she was still pretty tired from her sleep but she got up on time to start her day as usual. Dawn was not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside too, and was loved by many including by the Pevensie children, for her kindness and care. She had two siblings of her own. An older sister, Jane, who was two years older and a soon-to-be psychology student at university and Daniel, a student at an elite all boys private school who was three years younger than Dawn, and the same age as one of the Pevensie children, Edmund. Dawn had a number of boys in her school and neighborhood asking and begging her to be her boyfriend. But she declined it, for she already found a certain someone, Peter Pevensie, an eldest of the four and the handsome boy she ever saw. He was also the same age as Dawn.
Peter and Dawn have been close to each other ever since they were little. She was also good friends with his three younger siblings, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. Five of them played fun games together with the other children, shared each other's snacks, and picked tiny flowers in the grass to put in each other's hair when they were in kindergarten and primary school. In their growing years, Peter and Dawn felt something bigger in their friendship. Love. They both had lunch together outside of their school, worked on their school assignments in the library during their spare block or at a cafe after school. Also both of them had conversations by the fence at their front yard of their house and sometimes had some deep talks without even judging. And that never stopped them from loving each other. Both Peter, Dawn and their families even attend the same church every Sunday, which also made Dawn and the Pevensie siblings even more closer than ever. Although they developed such a good friendship in the past years, but their fun didn't always go very well.
Both the Pevensie and the Jameson parents had a long history of rivalry even before they were born. Because of this, they did not approve of the friendship and love between their eldest son and their middle daughter and forbidden their children from hanging around with each other. The children asked their parents why they despise each other, they didn't want to talk about it. More like, they couldn't talk about it because their children won't understand and that it could change their views up toward each other.
Dawn made her bed once she got up. As she was about to reach the bathroom nearby, Daniel beat her to it.
"Daniel!" Dawn reprimanded her brother. "I was going to go in there!"
"So do I!" Daniel sassed. "I don't want to be late for school, you know!"
Dawn sighed, feeling annoyed about her brother's teasing and attitude towards her. This was not the first time she experienced this. She heard the sound of whiz and farts outside of the bathroom while waiting for her turn. After Daniel finished brushing his teeth and his business, he got out of the bathroom.
"Uggghhh!" Dawn screeched as she held her nose. "Don't you ever know how to use air freshener?"
"In your face, big sis!" Daniel called out as he stuck out his tongue and went downstairs.
Dawn groaned. She sprayed the bathroom with a lavender scented air freshener as it was finally her turn to use the bathroom. She brushed her teeth, washed her face and did her hair into a side Dutch braid. Then she went back to her bedroom where she dressed into her school uniform and packed her finished homework and books into her school bag. Dawn also packed her carefully folded a long lavender dress in her suitcase. Lastly, she headed downstairs to the dining room where her parents and her siblings were waiting for her and their breakfast. Her mother, Penelope was setting the table with plates of pancakes with blueberry jam, syrup and sausages with Jane's help. Her father, Samuel was reading a newspaper and drinking his morning cup of coffee at the same time. Daniel set the glasses of milk on the table and their pet puppy, Bingo was chewing on a raw steak.
"Good morning, Dawn." Penelope smiled at her daughter.
"Good morning, mum." Dawn greeted back. "Morning, dad."
Samuel was dazed in his newspaper.
"Dad?"
"Oh, right!" Her father was snapped out of concentration. "Good morning, dear." He smiled.
"Hi, Dawn." Jane said as she took a sip of her milk.
"Hi, Jane." Dawn smiled at her sister.
"How was your sleep, darling?" Penelope asked.
"It was wonderful, mum." She answered with a smile. Dawn went to her seat and noticed that her parents and siblings got glasses of milk except her.
"Daniel, did you forget about my glass of milk again before I came here?" She frowned at Daniel.
"Go get your own." Daniel talked back. "You're old enough to pour your own drink." Dawn scoffed and went to the kitchen and poured milk into her glass. Then the family said their grace and morning prayer at the table and began their breakfast.
"Um, there will be a Spring Talent Show at my school tonight." Dawn announced her family.
"Oh, yes. I remember!" Penelope said. "I hear you'll be performing a song there."
"Yes." Dawn answered. "I'm really excited about it. I'm nervous, but I'm excited."
Samuel closed his newspaper and put it aside on the table.
"Dawn, I'm sure you'll do great." He reassured. "Everyone's nervous."
"I also heard you practicing with your singing over the last few weeks." Jane added. "You have a really nice voice."
"Yeah." Daniel said. "Except it's gets so loud that it can break the entire glass."
"Daniel!" Penelope scolded. "Please be nice to your sister."
"Fine.." Daniel sighed sarcastically and continued eating his breakfast. After the Jamesons finished their meal, they cleared the table and were prepared to start their day.
"Hon, I will be heading out to work now." Samuel announced. "Do you kids need a ride to school?"
"I do." Daniel answered.
"I'm alright, dad. Thanks." Jane said. "Dawn and I can take the train to school." Dawn nodded.
"Are you sure?" Samuel raised an eyebrow. The girls nodded.
"Alright." He agreed. "Just make sure you don't go near__"
"Peter?" Dawn cut her father off. He nodded firmly. "But dad...!"
"I don't want you to be near him and his family." Samuel warned.
"But those four children are very nice people." Dawn tried to reason with him.
"We just don't get along with the Pevensies, alright?" Samuel told his daughter.
"Fine." Dawn sighed. Whatever. She mentally added.
As Samuel and Daniel went into the car and drove off to his school, Dawn and Jane cleared the dining table and did their dishes, gathered their school stuff and headed out of their house. As the two sisters walked a few blocks away from their house, they caught up with the four Pevensie siblings standing on the slope edge of the sidewalk waiting for the green light to cross the street.
"Hi!" Dawn called out to them. The Pevensie siblings turned their attention towards the Jameson sisters and smiled.
"Hello, girls!" They greeted them. Peter gave Dawn a smile as he was happy to see his girlfriend.
"Morning, Peter." Dawn smiled as she stood up on her tippy toes and kissed her boyfriend on his cheek. Peter blushed a bit and gave Dawn a quick kiss back.
"Morning, Dawn." He greeted. "Hi, Jane."
"Hi, Peter." Jane smiled. "Hi, Susan. Hello, Edmund. Hi, Lucy."
"Hello, Jane." The other three smiled back. "Good morning."
"How are you?" Peter asked.
"I'm alright." Dawn replied. "Trying to hide our relationship from my parents." Peter nodded.
"Me too." He said.
"Same with me." Susan added. Edmund and Lucy also agreed.
"I still really want to be around you guys, but our parents' rivalry is making it tough." Dawn told them.
"We know." Peter nodded. "We've tried to ask them why, they wouldn't even discuss the details."
Dawn sighed and nodded. Just then, the green light appeared on the signal lights. "Come on. Let's go before someone sees us."
The six friends crossed the street and walked across their neighborhood. Dawn told her Pevensie friends about their school's Spring Talent Show where she will be performing a song that she had been practicing. They couldn't be more happier for Dawn as they knew she had a good singing talent. And Peter also loved his girlfriend's voice that he sometimes heard her singing from his next door house, thinking what a most beautiful voice she had. The six friends walked few more blocks until they reached the area with some buildings. There, they headed down the underground subway train station where they catch their train that will take them to their school. Just as the Pevensie siblings and the Jameson sisters got in the train, they sighed in relief due to not being caught by other people; especially their parents.
