Escape from the White Witch (Pt. 2)

As daylight came after their first escape from the Witch and her spies, the four children and the beavers continued their journey to meet Aslan. It has been a long walk for them. They are now walking across the stone bridge looking at the land further away from them. They were seemingly halfway to Aslan's location, but not quite.

"Now, Aslan's camp is near the Stone Table just across the frozen river." Mr. Beaver explained.

"River?" Peter asked.

"Oh, the river's been frozen solid for a hundred years." Mrs. Beaver said.

"It's so far!" Peter said.

"It sure does." Dawn agreed.

"It's the world, dear." Mrs. Beaver said. "Did you expect it to be small?" Susan didn't look very amused. "Smaller." She said and continued on with them. As time went by, Peter, Dawn, Susan, Lucy and the beaver couple were walking across a huge frozen lake. They feel quite tired, but did they best to keep up with Mr. and Mrs. Beaver.

"Come on, humans!" Mr. Beaver shouted. "While we're still young!" Peter was getting a little annoyed with the beaver's commands. He bent down to give Lucy a piggyback ride. "If he tells us to hurry one more time, I'm gonna turn him into a big, fluffy hat." He said. Dawn giggled nervously by what her boyfriend just said.

"I heard that!" Mr. Beaver said.

"Sorry!" Peter called out.

"Hurry up!" Mr. Beaver yelled. "Come on!"

"He is getting a little bossy!" Lucy complained.

"No! Behind you!" Mrs. Beaver yelled, pointing at the tiny sleigh from the distance coming towards them. "It's her!"

"The Witch!" Dawn gasped in horror.

"Run! Run!" Mr. Beaver yelled.

"Run!" Peter commanded. He took Lucy's hand and they all started running for their life. They didn't stop running until they found a hole to hide under.

"Inside!" Mr. Beaver ordered the children. "Dive! Dive!"

"Quick! Quickly!" Mrs. Beaver panicked. The six friends dove down into a little cave and went in very still, watching the pile of snow shadow in front of them. A few snow drops down as someone moves about over them and walks away.

"Maybe she's gone." Lucy said in relief.

"I suppose I'll go look." Peter said as he was about to get up, but Dawn grabbed his arm and shook her head no.

"No!" Mr. Beaver warned Peter. "You're worth nothing to Narnia dead!" Dawn nodded in agreement.

"Well, neither are you, Beaver." Mrs. Beaver added.

Mr. Beaver took her paws in his. "Thanks sweetheart!" He said. The beaver scrambled up top to check to see who it was. The others wait nervously, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

"What's that?" Susan wondered. "What's..." Peter cut his sister off. "Shh, shh, shh..." he shushed her.

Mr. Beaver suddenly popped his head down, causing Lucy to shriek and Dawn to gasp.

"Come out! Come out!" He said excitedly. "I hope you've all been good 'cause there's someone here to see ya!" The children looked at each other and slowly started to come out. They emerged out of the cave and saw a sleigh and reindeers. Standing by them, was Father Christmas, who waiting for them and laughing happily. Lucy smiled. "Why, hello."

"Merry Christmas, sir." Dawn said with a smile.

Father Christmas smiled. "It certainly is, Lucy, since you have arrived."

"Look, I've put up with a lot since I got here, but this..." Susan said but Peter cut her off again.

"We thought you were the Witch." He told him. Father Christmas nodded with understanding. "Yes, yes, I'm sorry about that." He apologized. "but in my defense, I have been driving one of these longer than the Witch."

Susan raised an eyebrow. "I thought there was no Christmas in Narnia."

Father Christmas shook his head. "No. Not for a long time." He replied. "But the hope that you have brought, Your Majesties, is finally starting to weaken the Witch's power." He continued. "Still, I dare say you could do with these." Father Christmas reached into his sleigh and pulls out a huge brown sack.

"Presents!" Lucy said with joy and excitement. Father Christmas pulled out a dagger and a bottle of cordial for Lucy. "Juice of fire flowers." He explained. "One drop, will cure any injury." He then presented her a dagger with a red and golden handle. "And though I hope you never have to use it..."

"Thank you, sir, but I think I could be brave enough." Lucy replied, looking at the dagger and the cordial and politely took them. "I'm sure you could." Father Christmas said proudly. "But battles are ugly affairs." Lucy nodded looked at her gifts in awe and stepped back. Then it was Susan's turn to get a gift. Father Christmas presented her a quiver of bow and arrows and an ivory horn.

"Susan." Father Christmas said to her. "Trust in this bow, and it will never miss its mark." Susan nodded with a smile and politely took the present with both hands. "What happened to battles are ugly affairs?" Susan asked as she looked up at him. Father Christmas laughed. "Though you don't seem to have a problem making yourself heard..." he said and presented her with an ivory horn. "Blow on this horn and wherever you are, help will come." He added.

"Thanks." She smiled. Susan stepped back and Dawn stepped forward for the Christmas gifts. Dawn stepped forward to Father Christmas for the presents. Father Christmas handed her a dagger, that had a black and gold handle.

"Dawn, this is for you, young lady." Father Christmas said. "Always use it for the good."

"Thank you." Dawn said. Father Christmas then reached out and got a pair of magic headphones and presented to her. Dawn looked at the headphones in awe. "These are lovely. What do they do?"

"These headphones will make you sing while you wear them, so your voice can drive the enemies away." Father Christmas explained. Dawn smiled. She loved to sing, now she could use her voice to save people.

"Thank you, sir." Dawn said. "How did you know that I sing?"

Father Christmas winked. "he sees you when you're sleeping, he know if you're awake...." Dawn giggled. "Thanks again." She said." Father Christmas then turned to Peter. Him gave him a bright silver shield with a red lion on it and a sword in its scabbard. Peter drew the sword out in awe.

"Peter. The time to use these may be near at hand." Father Christmas told him.

"Thank you, sir." Peter said gratefully.

"These are tools, not toys." Father Christmas said. "Bear them well and wisely." He then looked around the forest. "Now, I must be off. Winter is almost over, and things do pile up when you've been gone a hundred years." He walked up to his sleigh and turned his head to the children and the beavers. "Long live Aslan!" Father Christmas said bravely and climbed into his sleigh. "And Merry Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas!" Lucy called out.

"Merry Christmas sir!" Susan and Dawn said.

"See you next year!" Peter added.

"Goodbye!" Lucy waved. Mrs. Beaver laughed.

"Told you he was real." Lucy winked at her siblings and friend. Peter gave them a rather serious look. "He said winter was almost over." He told them. "You know what that means. No more ice."

The children and the beavers looked down the banks of the river which was breaking into chunks of ice that were floating away on the fast flowing water. A frozen waterfall loomed on their left. Peter started to think about the situation while holding Dawn and Lucy's hands. "We need to cross, now!" Peter said to his siblings and girlfriend. Dawn looked at him worriedly.

"Don't beavers make dams?" Lucy looked confused. Mr. Beaver looked at her. "I'm not fast dear." He said. "Come on!" Peter said as he pulled Lucy and Dawn down the bank, but Susan stopped him.

"Wait! Will you just think about it for a minute?!" She asked frantically.

"We don't have a minute!" Peter argued.

"I'm just trying to be realistic." Susan said. Peter rolled his eyes at her. "No, you're trying to be smart!" He shot back. "As usual!" He and Lucy continued down the bank with Dawn giving Susan a pleading look. Her friend might have not agreed until they heard the howling of wolves. Seconds later, Susan finally followed the others down to the waterfall. Peter took a step on the ice, but the water spurted out.

"Peter, be careful!" Dawn said as she clung to his arm. "Wait. Maybe I should go first." Mr. Beaver said and Peter nodded. The beaver moved forward and tested out the ice with his feet and tail whether or not it was strong.

"You've been sneaking second helpings, haven't you?" Mrs. Beaver scolded.

"Well, you never know which meal's gonna be your last." Mr. Beaver replied. "Especially with your cooking." The children start to follow Mr Beaver across the ice.

"If Mum knew what we were doing..." Susan said worryingly.

"Mum's not here." Peter scolded her. Dawn looked up and in her horror, she saw three wolves were crossing the top of the frozen waterfall.

"Peter!" She tapped on her boyfriend's arm. "Look!"

"Oh no!" Lucy cried. Peter gripped on her and Dawn's hands and pulled them across the ice.

"Run!" Peter shouted.

"Hurry!" Susan added. As the children and the beavers started crossing the frozen river as fast as they could, they were stopped by the wolves. Mr. Beaver tried to fight one of them off, but the wolf pounced on him and pinned him down.

"No!" Mrs. Beaver cried out.

"Peter, Dawn!" Lucy cried out as well. "Do something!" Peter drew his sword. Dawn took out her headphones and put them over her head. Peter looked at Dawn and gave her a scared nod and Dawn gave him a good luck smile.

"Put that down, boy." Maugrim growled. "Someone could get hurt."

"Don't worry about me!" Mr. Beaver called out. "Run him through!" Maugrim ignored the beaver and continued to challenge Peter and his siblings and girlfriend.

"Leave it now, while you can." He said. "And your brother goes with you." Susan was scared. She tried to talk her brother out about the problem but he wouldn't listen.

"Stop, Peter!" Susan begged. "Maybe we should listen him!"

"Smart girl." Maugrim chuckled. Dawn removed her headphones and placed them around her neck. "We should?!" She asked. Peter looked at her. "No!" He replied. "Alright." Dawn nodded in agreement and put her headphones back on.

"Don't listen to him!" Mr. Beaver yelled. "Kill him! Kill him now!"

"Oh come on." Maugrim taunted. "This isn't your war. All my Queen wants us for you to take your family and go."

Dawn removed her headphones glared at the wolf. "Go where?!" She asked bravely.

"Back to where you came from." Maugrim said. Dawn scoffed. "No!" She shouted. "We have some business here. To save this land from you and your so-called 'Queen!'" Maugrim soon lunged at them but they dodged it. And Dawn drew her dagger at the wolf as well.

"Look, just because some man in a red coat hands you both swords, doesn't make you guys heroes!" Susan scolded her brother and her friend.

"No Peter!" Mr. Beaver yelled again. "Narnia needs ya! Gut him while you and Dawn still have chance!" Peter didn't know what to do. "What's it gonna be, Son of Adam?" Maugrim said. "I won't wait forever. And neither will the river." Peter looked down as the river was breaking.

"Peter!" Lucy called out to him. He then noticed the frozen waterfall was starting crack and collapse. "Hold one to me!" Peter shouted. The girls held onto Peter and he raised his sword and stabbed it into the ice. And now the four children and the beavers were riding on a big chunk of ice as if they were on a raft. The waterfall plunged down to the ice and huge water swept them away. The soon made it to surface and now they were sailing across the river on the ice, and finally went up to the other side of the river bank all soaked in water. Dawn and Susan noticed that Lucy went missing when they realized that Peter was holding her coat. They had no idea how Lucy was gone.

"What have you done?!" Susan gasped in horror.

Peter eyes went wide. "Lucy! Lucy!" He and Susan called out.

"Lucy where are you?!" Dawn shouted out. Seconds go by, a little voice came from behind them. "Has anyone seen my coat?" The children and the beavers turned around to see Lucy walking up to them.

"Finally!" Dawn sighed in relief. "We almost lost you!"

Lucy gave her look. "I'm sure I could handle myself." She said. "But still, we need to stick together." Dawn said worryingly. Peter help them get to her. "Don't you worry, dear." Mr. Beaver said. "Your brother's got you well looked after."

"And I don't think you'll be needing those coats anymore." Mrs. Beaver added. They all smiled. The children walked past by the trees where the blossoms started blooming. They removed their heavy coats and left them behind as the Woods changed from winter to spring. And they were halfway close to Aslan's Camp.
