Bad News from Esther

Now that the Blitz was over and all the children were back home in town, they also started going back to school to start their new life all over again. One Monday morning, on the way to school, Dawn, Susan, Jane and Lucy went down to the subway station to see what was going on in the chanting and shouting crowd. It was Peter! He was having a brawling fight with the boys for them saying something about Dawn. Susan stood there shaking her head in disappointment, while Jane, Dawn and Lucy watched in shock and horror.

"Take that, Pevensie!" One of the boys yelled as he bumped Peter in the side of his arm. And Peter pushed that boy down onto the platform. Peter was then pulled back by another schoolboy. Then Edmund took action and joined in to help his brother. "Ed! What are you doing?!" Dawn called out. Edmund didn't answer. He jumped into the fighting boys and tackled one of the boys off of Peter. The school children continued chanting, except Jane, Dawn, Susan and Lucy. They didn't know what to do. One of the boys tried to pull Edmund off of the other boy, but he nudged him out of the way. Some grown ups were able to break the fight up. Peter and Edmund went over to their siblings, Dawn and Jane. And the subway station brawl was over. The six friends were now sitting on the bench.

"Peter, what happened and why were you fighting?" Susan asked.

"They pushed me." Peter said.

"And then what?" Dawn asked her boyfriend. "Well he asked for me to say sorry, but he bumped into me first." He answered. Lucy sighed. "Then what did you do?" Susan asked again. "You hit him?" Peter was a bit taken back by his sister's question. "No, he hit me first." He said defensively.

"That mean bully!" Lucy said as she bit her lip. "Do they even know you?" Dawn asked her boyfriend. Peter nodded. "They know me." He replied. "They used to go to the same school."

"Then why aren't they in our school now?" She asked.

"Because they got kicked out for fighting me." Peter answered. Jane nodded. "Well that served them right." She said. "I'm glad that your teacher and the principal sided with you." Peter nodded. Edmund then joined in the chat. "And their names are..." but his brother cut him off.

"Ethan and Jake." Peter answered. Dawn's eyes went wide.

"Ethan and Jake?" Dawn said, raising her eyebrow. "Don't you mean...those boys who bullied me and made fun of my singing back at the talent show?!" Peter nodded. "Yup, them." He said. Dawn scoffed. "How could they?! After a while, they still haven't even changed!" Her boyfriend snorted. "Why would they?"

"Exactly." Edmund added.

"They didn't mention of me when you guys fought, did they?" Dawn asked Peter. Her boyfriend bit his lip. "They may have said something." He said.

"Hopefully it's not the worst one." Lucy said.

"They said she couldn't sing and she looked like a fish." Peter sighed. Dawn's face turned red. She covered face with both hands and started crying. Peter sighed and hugged her. Dawn accepted and wrapped her arms around him and hid her face in his chest. Lucy rubbed her back. Peter ran his finger through her hair. "Hey, it's okay." He said soothingly. Dawn nodded. "Thanks." She sniffled. "At least Jake and Ethan don't go to our school anymore." The others nodded. Just then, the subway train arrived at their station where they were waiting. They all got on the train.

"Peter, you should've just at least ignored Jake and Ethan." Susan tried to reason with her brother as the train doors closed. "Then this wouldn't have happened."

"How can I just ignore them?" Peter shot her an annoyed look as their train started moving.

"You could've just walked away." Jane suggested. "Or just get help from an adult nearby."

"I shouldn't have to." Peter said. "I'm sick of being childish!" Jane sighed. "It's not childish, Peter." She talked him down. "There's nothing wrong with asking for help."

"Ugh." Peter complained. "It's alright, Pete." Jane said as she placed her hand on Peter's shoulder and gently caressed it. "We'll work on it." He sighed and didn't say a word. As the train stopped at the next station, Lucy thought she saw Esther. "Hey look, it's Esther!" She shouted excitedly. "She's over there!" Edmund frowned. "Lu!" Susan said.

"What?" Lucy shrugged her shoulders. "Lu, are you sure?" Peter asked his youngest sister. "I don't see anything." Lucy sighed. "But I did!" Edmund sighed. "I wish that was true." He groaned. Dawn just nodded. "I wish I saw her."

"Esther?" Jane raised an eyebrow and turned to her sister. "Isn't she the girl you told me about when we were away?" Dawn nodded. "That's her." She answered. Jane nodded. "I wish I met her too.."

"She is the nicest person ever." Edmund said dreamily. Dawn nodded with agreement. "She is." She added. "And very beautiful inside out." Edmund nodded. "Yeah."

"But she doesn't like me much..." Susan said. "I don't know why."

Jane tilted her head. "Oh?" She looked confused. "Have you tried to ask?" Jane asked Susan. Susan sighed. "No..." She answered. "I wish we knew..." Lucy muttered.

"Maybe you should next time." Jane suggested.

"We'll see." Susan replied with a sigh. "But we don't know when we will go back there." Edmund became sad, and Lucy hugged her brother. Edmund hugged back. "I really do miss her." He said.

"So do we..." the others said except Jane. They stopped their conversation about Esther and didn't talk for the rest of their subway train ride to school.

~Time skip~

A month came by and it was nearly summer. Dawn was watering the plants in the garden with Bingo and Lucy was reading her book in the backyard next to it. Suddenly, something rustling blew past by their neighborhood. Dawn and Bingo turned to see pinkish petals flying around towards Lucy. She and her puppy headed towards the direction and it was Esther. Esther was made out of flowers and the wind. She had a horrid look on her face and it seemed like she was trying to say something.

"Lucy..." Esther called to her, in almost a whispery voice. Lucy looked up to the flowery appearance of Esther and gasped.

"Esther?!" Lucy said. "What brings you here?" Dawn and Peter came over. "Is everything alright?" Dawn asked Esther. Esther shook head head no. "Why?" Peter asked her. "What's going on in Narnia nowadays?"

"It's bad, Peter." Esther answered. "The Telmarines have invaded Narnia."

Dawn tilted her head looking confused. "Who are the Telmarines?" She asked.

"I don't have time to explain." Esther said. Peter looked at her. "Esther, are you alright? Are you safe?" He asked. Esther nodded. "I thought I saw you a month ago at the train station." Lucy said. "How come you vanished?"

"It was a bad timing." Esther answered. Lucy just nodded in understanding. "When will we see you there again?" Dawn asked.

"When it's time." Esther said, sadly.

"Alright." The children replied. As Esther began to leave, she let them know another thing. "Tell Edmund I said hello by the way. Tell him I love him deeply."

"We will." Lucy smiled. Esther weakly smiled back and disappeared with the wind. The kids waved bye. Then the three friends went inside the Pevensie house where they met up with Edmund and Susan, who were doing their homework. Lucy ran to Edmund. "Esther was here!" She shouted. Edmund lit up. "Oh, really?" He gasped. "She was?" Lucy nodded.

"But it seems Narnia has a problem." Peter said, looking serious.

"What kind of problem?" Susan asked.

"Someone has invaded Narnia." Peter said simply. Edmund was frozen. He was in shock that his girlfriend was in the middle of the problem. He couldn't help but thinking what will happen to Esther. "No..." Edmund said. "That can't be..."

Lucy placed her hand on her brother's shoulder. "She said she loves you dearly." She passed Esther's message to him.

"She does?" Edmund gasped as his eyes lit up. Lucy nodded.

"And I love her too.." He replied dreamily.

"I'm sure she knows." Dawn smiled.

"I want to see her soon." Edmund added. Lucy sighed. "Well all do..." She whispered.

"Hopefully she's safe during the struggling times." Susan said. Edmund nodded, but he worried so much. "I'm worried for her." His voice quivered.

"We all do." Peter sighed. The five friends were filled with worry after a few of them received an unexpected, but also distressing news from Esther. They were worried for her safety and all of the other Narnians back there. Although they didn't know who the Telmarines were, but they were hoping and determined to find out about them sooner or later.
