Chapter 8
Today was the day of Dave's execution. It was the only chance I would have to save him.
I get dressed and make my way out of the castle. You sneak around the yard, avoiding the sights of the guards as you pass through. I manage to sneak into the crowd and watch as they tie Dave up. I could feel myself tear up, but I don't want to give myself away so I hold them back. The archer stands up and begins to notch his arrow. Before he can let go I jump up in front of Dave. The crowd lets out a gasp at my actions.
"Daughter, move." My father commands.
"No, I refuse!" I yell.
The crowd gasps once again at what I yell.
"What kind of spell has this heather put upon you?" my father asks.
"None, I care for this demon upon my own free will," you reply, "I care for him!"
Without saying anything else I turn to face Dave, who was looking at me with widened crimson eyes. I walk up to him and untie him. Once he's free he collapses and I loop my arms around him to keep him from falling.
"I'm leaving," I state, lifting Dave up, "don't send anyone after me."
I walk off of the platform and out of the court.
"Open, gate to the human realm." I chant and the portal opens.
I step into the portal.
Once we arrive in the human realm I take Dave back to the apartment and lay him on the couch. I quickly grab a first aid kit and clean his wounds.
By the time I had finished Dave had fallen asleep. I carefully pick him up, making sure not to hurt him any further. I lay him down on the bed and cover him in the soft blankets. You go around the other side and lay down. Just as I finish getting comfortable I feel Dave pull me closer. It was sort of uncomfortable because of my wings, but I push it aside and close my eyes.
If I had been told that I was going to fall in love with a demon, I would have laughed. But now that I think about it, that wasn't so crazy. Love was not always up to you, sometimes it just happens.
But right now, as I cuddled up to a demon, which some months ago, kidnapped me from my room.
I open my eyes to see that Dave was still asleep. I lift up one my hands and brush his hair away from his face. My fingers gently traced the bruises and scratches that littered his pale skin. I frown slightly; he must have gone through a lot while he was locked up.
His eyes slowly flutter open and the crimson orbs look into mine. They looked different than they used to, before they held no brightness, but now they were shining joyously.
"Good morning." Dave smiles.
He lifts one of his hands and cups my cheek. His hands were warm as I sigh and lean into his hands.
"Good morning." I reply.
"Maybe we should get something to eat." Dave says as he sits up.
"Yeah, I'm hungry," I nod as I hop out of bed, "and do you have some of that wing serum?"
"Yeah, it's in the bathroom in the cabinet," Dave says, "you go use the serum and I'll start cooking."
I nod and walk off towards the bathroom.
I wince slightly as I walk back into the kitchen. Dave had already set down pancakes on the table. I smile as I sit down at the table. Dave takes a seat across from me.
"Alright dig in."
I hear Dave chuckle before he too begins to eat.
So this is how it ends, with an angel and a demon eating pancakes in their shared apartment on Earth. They may be quite different, but this won't stop them from staying together, and nothing could separate them.
