68. Attack on Doral
After a few more days at Doral, Keith decided that Allura's kidnappers were not here so he and his knights packed up to travel to another kingdom. When he saw that almost every knight was packed up, he went inside the palace to say farewells to the King and Princess.
" Thank you King August and Princess Dorrie." Keith said and kneeled in front of their throne, "My Kingdom will never forget your kindness and help you gave me and my people."
The King stepped down and went before him.
" This is just our way of saying thank you for all the things your Kingdom have done for us and the next time you visit I hope you'll be able to call us by name." King August said patting his shoulder as Keith got back up.
After they finished saying goodbyes, the Princess tapped the shoulder of Keith.
" Yes?" He said and saw what she had already wrote on the notebook.
" Please let me see Sir Gunderson for a moment." It said and even though Keith was confused what the Princess wanted the young boy for, he agreed to her request. While he was going back outside to get Pidge, he heard a loud horn.
He turned to the King who now had a grim face and the Princess who had wide eyes.
" What's going on?" Keith asked touching the hilt of his sword and the King turned to him with hard eyes.
" We're under attack."
" Are you done packing?" Theo asked and Katie shook her head.
" Bandit doesn't want to cooperate with me today." She said glaring at the black horse and it almost felt like he glared back.
While she was trying to get along with her stubborn horse, she heard faint stomps from her left. She squinted into the Forest of Tears and realized there was a group of hooded mysterious people with weapons.
" We're under attack!" A Dorian Knight said and shortly after, there was a horn, " It's the Forest Bandits!"
A woman from the forest got out her bow and shot an arrow in the way of Katie. She jumped out of the way and dragged the reins of Bandit away from the attackers then got out her sword.
" Go back inside!" She yelled to the maids and butlers outside that assisted them.
She blocked all the arrows that were aimed at the ones in the way with her sword. The bandits got closer and a few people came running them with knives and daggers. Some knights stayed behind to defend the palace and some knights including Katie went out on the frontline to fight the invaders.
She fought a couple of them dodging the daggers they threw at her and using her hilt to hit them in places that would get them unconscious. After a while, most knights were on the floor with the unconscious bodies of the invaders and it was only Katie and a few other knights against the leftover bandits.
She wiped her sweat off and faced a person with a sword on her back that looked like a girl, from her body, only a few years older than her. They ran to each other, Katie with her sword and the girl with a fancy but sharp looking dagger in her gloved hand, and clashed their weapons together making a loud noise.
Katie tried to trip the girl from underneath but she jumped over Katie's head gracefully and sliced her cheek from behind. Katie was so shocked by the girl's quick movements she forgot all about the pain.
She turned around quickly and grabbed the girl's dagger, that she threw, before it hit her neck. It sliced her hand but better her hand than her neck. Katie threw it back to the top of the girl's head making sure it would not harm her and the dagger took the girl's hood off taking a few strands of hair and hit the tree behind her.
The girl cursed and that was when Katie saw what the girl really looked like. She had long gold-blonde locks and her eyes were an incredible pink lilac jewel color and even though she still had a mask on, Katie could tell that the girl was beautiful.
She snarled and tripped Katie and grabbed her dagger swiping her hood off the tree and put it back on to hide her identity. Then she stepped over a few unconscious people, both bandits and knights, and stepped into the palace.
' The Royals are still inside!' She remembered, getting up wincing from the pain and immediately rushed inside also ignoring the unconscious people on the ground.
To her horror when she walked in, a man was holding a sword to the neck of Princess Dorrie. The King and Keith were holding swords splattered with little blood but they couldn't do anything.
" Take any steps closer and she's going to the afterlife." The man said and drew a few blood drops from her neck.
" Dorrie!" The King shouted in agony, his eyes turning a darker color and turned to the intruders.
" What. Do. You. Want." He said coldly and the man smirked.
" Give us our man from your prison you captured a few days ago and we will leave." He said and the King had no choice but to obey.
After the man, who stole a purse and was captured by Katie and Dorrie, was released, the bandits left as they said they would and the Princess ran into her father's arms, tears running down her cheeks.
Katie watched them sadly, mad at herself for not being able to help her friend, and was about to go back outside to help pick up debris and bring the unconscious knights inside but was stopped by Keith.
" The Princess wanted to see you earlier and I think she still might." He said and noticed the cut on her cheek that was still bleeding and her cut hand. " And you should check them out before we go."
Katie nodded and he walked back outside. After the Princess calmed down and stopped crying, she went to go see Katie.
" I'm sorry I wasn't there to stop it," Katie said sadly looking down and she felt Dorrie's hand on her shoulder.
" You don't have to apologize for that." She seemed to say that with her smile and then got something out of her bag.
Dorrie handed her a notebook and showed her what she had already wrote on her own notebook.
" Take this. It will let us communicate through writing from anywhere. That way I will know if my friend is alright." The writing said and Dorrie handed her a magical looking ink pen. " Just write and it will appear to me. You can tell me about your problems through here and I can give advice. Anytime you need a friend, I'm here."
Katie beamed and hugged Dorrie.
" Thank you, this is such a huge gift!" She exclaimed and Dorrie shyly smiled.
" You're welcome." Her face said and then she looked at someone behind Katie. Katie also looked back and saw Theo waiting for her leaning against the wall.
" I guess it's time for you to go now." She wrote on her notebook and they shared a smile.
" Goodbye Dorrie." Katie said giving one final hug and walked away from her friend to Theo.
" So, made a new friend?" Theo said with a lopsided smile and she nodded.
" Yeah. " Katie said and then noticed that every other knights including Keith were already on their horses.
" Any clue where we're going next?" She said to Theo walking to Bandit right where she left him and he shrugged.
" I don't know this time." Theo said as they both got on their horses. "I guess we'll find out when we get there."
