55. His Answer

Keith already knew his options but he wasn't quite sure of some knights yet.

The Flinger twins used to be his only friends so he trusted them to follow him and help him on the journey.

The other men, he memorized their faces but not their names but he had gotten information from Lance about them so he knew that he could depend on them.

From the top of his head, Keith considered the short boy- Gunderson but he was not sure if he was ready for the journey ahead.

His mind argued back and forth that he was now so unsure whether to bring him or not.

' He has proven himself since the two tests, why am I still not bringing him?'

One side argued while the other side responded.

' He is shorter than most average men and he is sometimes emotionally delicate, he will not fare well with such a journey.'

' No- '

Keith shut his thoughts out as he walked over to the boy now, sitting by himself on the sidelines.

" Is it rough?" He asked and his eyes widened as he turned to him in surprise but he didn't answer.

" I mean the training." Keith said again and the smaller boy cooly replied.

" Even if it is rough, I am instructed to do them so I will."

The part of his thoughts that didn't want Gunderson to go froze at the sudden change in the boy's usual attitude.

" Oh.." Keith said as he watched the boy massage his legs with bruised fingers.

Just as he was considering not to bring him and turned around to walk back, he heard the short boy call out to him.

" Wait."

And when he turned around again to him, he saw the fire in his almond brown eyes that reminded him so much of someone else.

Though his voice was softer and his facial features were more feminine than some other males, he had fire in his eyes and it seemed to be growing every second.

Keith didn't know why but he found himself smiling as the smaller boy asked the question.

" Is there any chance I could be chosen to accompany you?"

He knew the answer to that after seeing how hard he worked himself and how the fire in his eyes hadn't left but he said something else.

" If your intentions are good." Keith said and walked away with no further glance at him or any other knights in the training.

Even after dinner, the short boy lingered in his mind.

He didn't know how such an innocent short looking boy could have such intense eyes.

His mind argued back and forth again as he prepared for sleep.

'Just let him go, he's proven himself enough.'

' His eyes won't be so fierce when he sees the cause and effects of war.'

Keith forced the thoughts out of his head because he already knew his answer after today.

He laid on his bed and his blankets before him.

" Only a few more days until the journey.." He mumbled softly to himself.

He already knew all the men he was gonna bring and in his sleep, he finally answered the question to Gunderson's earlier question.

" Yes."
