Chapter 3 BeeWare
(So we have a slight issue. While I was looking over this story and watching Grimm over again I realized my timeline is extraordinarily off. 5 weeks will pass in the story and it'll go from Halloween to Christmas. So, I'm probably not gonna re-edit them to make it make sense only because each chapter is over 5,000 words long and some are more than 8,000. The school makes that difficult. So this is sorta a warning in case the timeline gets a little funky and confusing and doesn't make sense. I apologize in advance.
Also, leave some feedback besides fixing my trash timeline! :D )
It has been 2 weeks since Paityn had gotten her stitches. Currently, she was at the doctor getting the stitches out and making sure everything was alright.
"Well, It seems to me that you are good to go. However, I do caution a bit of restraint. Don't do too much. You need to rebuild up the muscle in your leg." The doctor said. Paityn nodded standing up testing her leg out a bit.
"It feels a bit weird walking again. I will be careful with it." She said giving the doctor a small smile. She walked out of the room and began walking out to her car which she managed to somehow drive. "Hallelujah I can finally drive." She smiled getting in her car.
~~~
Paityn got back to the station seeing Nick and Hank there. They had a cake on the table that said; 'congrats on getting back your leg!' Paityn scoffed looking at it.
"This. Was not necessary." She said. "But thank you." She said as Nick handed her two plates. She looked at him confused.
"Go bring one to your boyfriend," Nick said smirking. Paityn scoffed.
"He's not my boyfriend." She said.
"Because of the fact you know exactly who I'm talking about says otherwise." He said. She groaned in annoyance taking the second plate and walking over to Sean's office. She knocked carefully.
"Come in." She heard him say. She walked in smiling a bit and he looked up from his papers. "Your leg working again?" He asked. She nodded offering him a slice. He took it carefully.
"It's working the best it can after getting the stitches out. I need to rebuild up the muscle. The doctor said to go easy on it." She smiled a bit and he nodded taking a bite of the cake.
"Well, I will keep that in mind." He said. He looked at the cake confused for a moment and the smallest smile graced his face for a split second before it went back to normal.
"I will get back to work. Don't let the cake get too messy." She laughed a bit as she walked out. Nick and Hank were facing the door in their chairs smirking.
"You two are cute, but a very surprising couple," Hank said. Paityn groaned sitting in her chair.
"Guys come on. Stop. We are not dating. For christ sakes, he's my captain. Isn't that like, I don't know, forbidden?" She asked. Suddenly Hank's phone began ringing and he quickly answered it. Within 5 minutes he was standing up.
"We have a call. Let's go. You excited to get back on the field Paityn?" Hank asked. She stood up fast.
"Hell yeah. Let's do this." She smiled.
~~~
"Dying on a streetcar while dancing to YMCA," Hank said getting out of the car. "What do you think?"
"Sound's like a crappy way to go," Nick said. Paityn scoffed yet again.
"You're just jealous that you didn't get to join in all the fun." She smiled.
"Oh, I'm very much glad I didn't join in on this fun." Nick sighed as we got onto the bus.
As we got on the bus Wu started telling us the woman's I.D., her age, and where she was supposed to live.
"On her way to work and then..." Paityn said as she neared the body and Wu took the tarp off her and Paityn winced. "Ouch."
"It's taking a while but we think it's an analeptic shock," Wu said. Paityn looked at him like he was crazy.
"There's no way one little bee could do this." She said.
"We need to get her medical records to see if she was allergic to anything," Nick said. Quickly Wu interjected and then made a bet with Nick which Nick won within an instant. Paityn looked over and saw the puncture wound wincing yet again.
"What the hell?" She said. Nick poked the area with a pen of some form trying to see what made it.
"Time to get Harper out of bed," Nick said standing up.
"Oooh, lucky you! I bet your gal is wearing something sexy." Wu said smiling making Paityn burst out laughing.
"Hank, is she your girlfriend?" She laughed.
"What? No. It's a joke going around the office." He said.
"Are you sure? You two could be a pretty cute couple if you ask me," she smirked.
"Shut up." He said walking out.
"Now you know how I feel!" She yelled out as he walked out.
~~~
They walked into the hospital seeing Harper already ready for them. They followed her to the back autopsy room.
"Here it is. Cause of death Anaphylactic shock. Mode. Apitoxin." She said. She handed Nick a clipboard.
"Bee venom?" Nick asked.
"Gold star," Harper said smiling a bit. She started explaining the more scientific stuff which Paityn couldn't understand for the life of her. Her phone began ringing and she walked out of the room.
"Burkhardt." She said.
"I told you I'm going to torment you." She heard Liam say. She growled.
"Leave me alone." She said hanging up quickly but he called her right back. She walked in to see Nick examining the wound as her phone was ringing.
"Are you gonna get that?" Hank asked.
"Nope." She said popping the P.
~~~
Back at the station, Wu, Hank, Nick, and Paityn were watching the video. Paityn Saw the girl pointing her out quickly as Wu sped it up and then slowed it down when the flash mob started.
"Damn. That looks intense and she looks quite confused." Paityn said.
"Tell me about it. I would be too if I was on a bus and a flash mob came out of nowhere." Hank said. Suddenly they lost her on the feed and they only saw the dancing people.
"Where'd she go?" Paityn asked.
"Lost her," Nick said sighing and standing up running his hands through his hair.
"Can we do anything Wu?" Hank asked.
"No. It's the only camera." He said. Paityn cursed under her breathe.
"Well, that flash mob was our witness pool," Hank said.
"Get this on the news. Anyone innocent should come right forward." Nick said grabbing his jacket. They all turned around and began walking away when Sean stepped in front of them.
"I want your full attention on the streetcar death, all right?" He asked. "We don't need the city scared to use public transportation." He eyed Paityn up just a bit before continuing walking.
"Where should we head to Captain?" Paityn asked. Her heart jumped a bit when he looked over at her.
"Harrison Berman, the head of the victim's law firm, he's upset, he's angry. We're gonna have to deal with this." He said. Paityn nodded looking at Nick and Hank. "Are you sure this was not a random killing?" He asked practically pleading that this was.
"It doesn't look like it," Nick said sadly.
"All right, well, anything you need, you let me know," Sean said giving Paityn one last look before walking away. Hank and Nick snickered a bit making Paityn turn to look at them.
"What's so funny?" She asked.
"He couldn't keep his eyes off of you," Hank said. Nick nodded.
"It was like his eyes were glued to you," Nick said.
"Oh shut up. He's just concerned because my leg is still recovering." She said. Nick and Hank nodded.
"Yeah. Sure." Hank said quickly walking out making Paityn shake her head.
~~~
Nick and Hank walked into the room to talk to two people while Paityn was waiting outside carefully stretching her leg out since it was beginning to hurt a bit after walking too much on it.
"Stupid leg. Just work damn you." She sighed and gently massaged the area that was hurting the worst. She winced a bit and lifted her pant leg to see the scar from the bite. She sighed dropping it as she saw Hank and Nick come out.
"Harper's bee man just buzzed me," Hank said making Nick laugh. "Yeah. I went there." He smirked and Nick looked at Paityn.
"You alright?" He asked going over to her.
"My leg is just bothering me. Too much movement." She gave a reassuring smile and yelped in surprise when Nick picked her up and she looked at him confused.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"I'm not letting you hurt your leg again. I'm carrying you." He said. Paityn smiled gently remembering when Nick would do this all the time when she scraped her knees when she was a kid.
~~~
They arrived at the bee farm but Nick and Hank kept her in the car because the pain got worse in her leg. She leaned her back against the window holding her leg in pain as it throbbed. She closed her eyes tightly trying to ignore the shooting pain.
"Son of a bitch. What the hell is going on?" She asked quietly. She lifted her pant leg again seeing the wound was tense to the touch and a bit red. She watched as Nick had a Bee land on him making the beekeeper grab the bee off him and put it back in the box. She yelped when her leg twitched making her curl into a ball.
She heard Nick come over as some tears were falling down her face and he knocked on the window making her jump and forget about the pain for a moment.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" He asked worried as he opened the door getting in beside her as Hank got in the driver's seat.
"It hurts. The scar is hurting a lot." She said. Nick grabbed her hand gently letting her squeeze it as he looked at the scar.
"It's tense. You overworked it. You just need a heating pad and pain meds." Nick said. She nodded leaning back in pain and Nick gently hugged her motioning for Hank to drive.
~~~
They got back to the station and Nick carefully lifted Paityn carrying her inside where Wu greeted them.
"Woah, what happened to her?" He asked.
"Overworked. I just gotta get her some pain meds and a heating pad and she'll be good." Nick said.
"Well TV coverage paid off. Say hello to the flash mob." Wu said.
Nick had to carefully maneuver around to not hurt Paityn due to the number of people there were in the room. Paityn stayed close to Nick trying to hold back her tears of pain.
"There are 22 so far," Wu said. "By the way. The captain's been taking a keen interest in this one. He's even asking me what's going on." Wu said like it was a big secret.
Nick set Paityn down in her chair getting some Ibuprofen he had and giving it to her. She took it fast and he looked at her worried.
"I don't have a heating pad with me. Just, don't move." He said pleadingly as Hank talked to Wu.
"Hey, can you get us the name of each beekeeper that was there too?" Nick asked. Wu slapped the desk lightly.
"No problem." He said walking away looking at them glad he didn't have to interview them all. "Have fun with your interrogations."
~~~
Paityn was in the corner of the interrogation room not wanting to be out there with all those people. All she did was focus on her breathing to not yell in pain.
"Well like I said, I got the same invitation as everybody else did. I figured I'd go have some fun with strangers." one of the suspects said.
"It just sounds like there's an echo in here because I keep hearing the same thing over and over again. Okay, can I see the tweet?" Nick asked. The man looked at his phone as if debating. "A tech-savvy guy like yourself I'm sure you still have it on your phone right?" He said just wanting this to get it over with.
"Um...I got some, personal stuff on there." He said nervously.
"Oh fuck it if you have porn on your phone or something," Paityn said in pain not thinking straight. The man looked at her shocked as well as Nick.
"Is she alright?" The man asked. Nick nodded.
"Yeah. She's just in a bit of pain." He said eyeing Paityn up nervously.
Nick and the suspect got into another conversation about what might've happened and suddenly when Nick went to grab the phone the man got it first and his hand turned red and black with needles sticking out of it. Nick looked at the man shocked. Hank knocked on the window for a moment motioning for Nick to come out.
"Just go. I'll wait here." Paityn said. Nick went over to her anyways picking her up and bringing her out with him.
"AG Waiver turned up on a dummy account. All it takes is half a brain and a laptop to manipulate an IP address. And if it was social media, anyone can arrange cover for a murder." Hank said. Paityn saw the men turn into bees causing her to look at them confused but then not care and continue listening to Hank."You get something off this Doug Shellow guy?"
"Yeah. I think we just did." Nick said.
~~~
"Abandoned paper mill? This doesn't look like home." Hank said as he pulled over. Paityn was in less pain than before due to the Ibuprofen finally kicking in.
"Let's do this," Paityn said getting out with a small limp.
"Damn girl. Injured and still kicking." Hank said smirking. "Badass."
"Yeah, she's not supposed to be walking," Nick said following her as she walked to the paper mill following the other guy. They managed to sneak up the stairs where he went going into a very dark and messy area. They snuck around as Hank walked right into some spiderwebs and had to continuously brush them off making Paityn hold back a laugh.
Soon they were able to see two men talking. Of course. It was Doug and AG and suddenly a woman walked by them.
"Well, she's new," Paityn said. Nick tried to get a better look at her and failed at doing so.
"Can you get a better look?" Hank asked.
"This isn't a better look type of place. There is one way to look and that's it." Paityn said. Suddenly she saw a bee land by them followed by a loud swarm following them making all three of them sprint and Paityn yelped in pain as multiple stung her arms and a few on her neck as well until they got into a room shutting the doors as fast as they could.
"Cover-up any cracks with this!" Nick yelled tossing them some plastic bags. Hank was screaming a bit.
"Holy shit! I've never seen so many damn bees in my life!" He yelled out. Paityn clutched her arm not feeling the pain yet due to adrenaline when all the bees left. When they were sure they were all gone they quickly started to leave.
"Man, I got at least a couple dozen bee stings," Hank said rubbing his arm in pain.
"Don't worry. So do I." Paityn said as they walked to the car getting in and Nick got in the driver's seat driving them all to his house.
~~~
"Ow!" Hank said as Juliet was putting some healing ointment on Hank's stings.
"You're a bigger baby then he is." Juliet laughed and Nick came over.
"Two beers and 2 glasses of water." He said. He handed Hank and Paityn a bottle of water.
"Bees normally don't sting unless threatened or provoked. You kick a hive or something?" Juliet asked.
"No, they just came out of nowhere and just attacked yours truly," Hank said.
"And me," Paityn said rubbing her neck making Juliet gently smack her arm to make her stop.
"No itching. And maybe you were their flowers." She said smiling.
"Excuse me?" Hank said confused.
"Bees are highly effective communicators. A scout will fly around till they find a perfect flower then it goes back to the hive and signals the others to follow." Juliet said applying more of the stuff to his hands.
"Holy crap did you learn all that in vet school?" Paityn asked.
"Nope. Animal Planet." Juliet said taking the thing off his hand smiling.
"Well did they say anything about bees being trained to attack people?" Hank asked.
"The more I think about it, the more this all just sounds like a bad movie," Paityn said. Juliet chuckled.
"I was gonna say, that sounds like a bad movie." She laughed a bit.
"Well, at least we know who our main suspects are," Paityn said trying to lighten the mood the best she could.
"Yeah, I just put out an APB on them," Nick said.
"What about our mystery woman?" Hank asked. Paityn followed Juliet as she walked to the kitchen.
"So, I heard that the captain has a thing for you," Juliet said making Paityn groan.
"Oh god, not you too. The captain and I are simply just friends. Nothing more." She said. Juliet scoffed.
"Yeah. Said every person who was hiding their relationship ever." She smiled. Paityn turned red and she looked away feeling her heart race thinking of him and she quickly shook her head. "You, are so in love. You just don't see it yet." She smiled. Suddenly she saw Hank getting up.
"Nu-uh! My patient is not to be doing anything but resting and not scratching for the next eight hours. Dude, if you were a dog I would've had you tranquilized by now." She said.
"No, she's right. You go and sleep. I got this." Nick said. Hank nodded in thanks.
"Thanks, doc." He said leaving and Juliet laughed as she shut the door. Paityn looked at them.
"I'm gonna head home. I'll be sure not to scratch them. And Nick, remind me to wear a scarf tomorrow." She smiled.
~~~
Paityn got woken up at 7 in the morning by Nick calling her telling her they got something with the help of Monroe and to get a scarf on. She did so quickly and she took a few steps downstairs feeling her leg tense up and she sat down for a moment. She lifted her pant leg up struggling a bit. Her leg was swollen and she cursed managing to get to her kitchen and take some ibuprofen.
After that, she went back upstairs changing into some loser pants hoping to hide her swollen leg a bit. She managed to get into her car and drive over to the house and got out seeing the stairs.
"Oh come on." She said as she slowly began walking up the stairs trying not to let her leg bother her too much. When she got in she saw she had to walk up more stairs and she sighed sadly looking at her leg. "I can do this. Come on leg. just a bit further." She said as she began walking up slowly holding onto the rail.
When she managed to get to the top and as soon as she did she saw a cop go into the room.
"Hey we gotta call from Seargent Wu, there's been another flash mob murder." He said and he walked out. Hank and Nick followed behind.
"Took ya long enough. Where have you been?" Nick asked.
"Nick. My leg can't do this much longer." She said quietly.
"What do you mean?" He asked. She lifted her pant leg and showed him that her leg was swollen. "Oh my god. Paityn you should not be moving around right now." He said.
"I can go for a bit longer Nick. I'm just warning you if something happens you know why." She said.
~~~
"Another tweet, another flashmob. This time, death by Hokey Pokey." Wu said. "Witnesses say the victim was doing her morning Yoga routine when it started. Eye in the sky caught it all." He said pointing up.
"Shellow or Coleman in the group?" Nick asked.
"Why would they have the same people in the next murder. That just makes it too obvious." Paityn said.
"Bingo. Everyone was new this time. But they grabbed Shellow and Coleman about an hour ago. They're at the precinct right now. Both are staying silent until their lawyers show up." Wu said. Sean was on the ground examining the body. Paityn looked at him giving him a nod of recognition.
"Tell me you got a solid lead on this," Sean said.
"We are zeroing in on a suspect. Melissa Wincroft." Hank said. Nick recognized the body quickly while Paityn found a bench to sit on and she sat down taking deep breaths.
"Are you alright?" Sean asked. Paityn looked at him.
"Yeah. My leg is just sore." She said giving him a small smile. He sat down beside her and he looked at her neck.
"I haven't seen you wear that scarf before. It's humid out. Why the scarf?" He asked. She tried to quickly come up with an excuse but she wasn't able to come up with one in time before he carefully removed part of the scarf. "What the hell did you do?" he asked seeing a few bee stings.
"I got stung." She said simply.
"You got stung? How many times?" He asked. She shrugged.
"I don't know. I'll be fine. We need to get back to the station though. This case is gonna be solved soon I just know it." She said smiling gently.
~~~
She was back at the station and she walked in carefully with Nick and Hank.
"Miss Schade," Sean said walking in his office. She stood up to face them and Paityn saw Nick freeze. "I'm captain Renard. These are detectives Griffin and both Nick and Paityn Burkhardt." He said.
"Detectives. Thank you." She said smiling gently.
"You can thank Detective Nick Burkhardt here. He's the one who figured it all out." Sean said.
"Actually I'm still trying to piece it all together."
"We need to ask you a few questions if you feel up to it. Can I offer you a cup of coffee?" Hank asked.
"Thanks," she said walking over to him sounding nervous. They walked out of the room leaving Nick, Paityn, and Sean in the room.
"Hey, Nick," Sean asked. "Nick." He asked again when Nick didn't respond. Nick slowly turned around looking pale. "You alright? You look like you've seen a ghost. You know this woman?"
"For a second I thought I'd seen her from somewhere before," Nick said.
"But, you're not sure?" Sean asked. Nick could only shake his head. "There's a killer out there that's already hit two of her coworkers. So, if you know something about Adalind Schade, now is the time to share it." Sean said sitting down in his chair.
"I don't know anything more about her than you do," Nick said. Paityn glanced at her brother confused. She had never seen him act like this before and it was kinda scaring her.
"Well, then just, um, stay on your game and keep her safe." He said. "Don't want her to be number 3." He said almost tauntingly. Nick nodded going to walk out of the room until he turned around looking at the captain.
"Be careful with my sister." He said making Paityn blush as he shut the door. Sean stood back up and grabbed a chair letting Paityn sit down and he closed all the blinds so no one could see inside the room.
"Take your scarf off. I'm gonna see what I can do about those stings." He said. She gently took her scarf off and he grabbed a special ointment and gently placed it on some of the stings making her hiss at how cold it was. "Cold?" He asked. She nodded.
"A bit." She said. He applied it carefully to the ones on her neck and he sighed.
"They go lower down your arm. Take your jacket off." He said.
"Wait, what?" She asked confused.
"I need you to take off your jacket. I don't want you hurt." He said. She carefully slipped off her jacket and he gently took her arm applying it there too when he paused. "They missed a stinger." He said. He gently grabbed it and pulled it out making Paityn yelp and she quickly placed her hands on his. He paused for a moment looking at her and she gently let go of his hand letting him continue.
"Thank you, Captain." She said quietly. He hummed a bit in response and he gently put his hand under her chin turning her to face him and he analyzed her face to make sure she had no stings there. She blushed a bit trying to avoid eye contact and failing as she got lost in his eyes.
"Are you alright?" He asked. She snapped out of it realizing neither of them had moved and were yet again less than a foot away from each other. She nodded carefully and he gently let go of her chin. "The stings don't look too bad. I put some special cream on them to hopefully heal them faster." He said. She stood up carefully wincing and sitting back down because of her leg.
"You wouldn't mind if I stayed here a bit right?" She asked. He looked at her.
"Of course not. May I ask why?" He said. She carefully lifted her pant leg showing him her swollen leg. due to sitting down it had gone down considerably but was still visible. He came over quickly moving her chair closer to his desk. "You can stay here as long as you please." He smiled gently.
~~~
"Captain. Hank said he needed you in interrogation." Liam said coming in. "Something happened to Adalind." Sean got up quickly speed walking out of the room and Liam turned to look Paityn smirking.
"What do you want?" She asked growling.
"What do I want? Psh. I want your job. I want you to embarrass yourself so much Captain has no better option than to fire you. That's what I want." He said slowly walking closer to her. Paityn put her hand on her gun just in case. Liam got let than a foot away from her and kneeled to eye level. Paityn's heart was racing a mile a minute. "I'm going to make you suffer."
Within seconds Paityn kicked into fight or flight mode and quickly lifted her leg up between his legs making him collapse to the ground in pain. He shook a bit on the ground panting.
"Stay. Away from me." She said.
"You little bitch!" He yelled grabbing her by the hair and slamming her against the wall making her yelp and he proceeded to grab her neck tightly beginning to choke her. All the while Paityn's heart was racing hoping her plan would work out. She squirmed trying to get free regretting it and suddenly the door was slammed open.
"Argent! Put her down now!" Sean said pointing his gun at him. Paityn looked at Liam as he cursed. She started seeing dots and she quickly wrapped her legs around his waist swinging herself around slamming him into the ground hard and then rolling off as he was stunned trying to breathe. Sean ran to her side protecting her while having his gun aimed at Liam. "You are under arrest. Anything you say can and will be used against you." He said quickly handcuffing Liam.
Paityn shook on a corner coughing into her arm trying to breathe and calm her heart down as it was speeding. Hank came in taking Liam as Sean went to Paityn. He gently moved her arm away from her face so he could see her neck.
"Your plan was not very smart." He said.
"Neither was his," she said. Her voice was hoarse and quiet.
"Did he hurt you anywhere besides your neck?" He asked. She focused for a moment and then shook her head since it hurt to talk. Her stomach was flipping unhappily and her skin went pale. Sean quickly helped her up trying to rush her to the bathroom. "Take deep breaths. It's alright." He whispered. They managed to get to a bathroom getting in and as soon as she got down on her knees she threw up everything she had eaten that day emptying her stomach. Sean held her hair back while rubbing her back gently as she shook in fear and weakness. Knocking was heard at the door.
"It's me, Nick. What happened to Paityn? Is she alright?" Nick asked panicked. Sean was about to respond but Paityn beat him to it.
"I'm alright. Just got a bit sick and nervous." She said. She gagged again and Sean shushed her quietly.
"Can I come in?" He asked. Paityn was about to respond with no until Sean told him he could come in. Nick ran beside Paityn seeing how pale she was and how sick she felt. "I need to take her home. Is she able to?" He asked. Sean nodded.
"Of course. Just, make sure she stays out of trouble." Sean said. Nick helped her up carefully due to Paityn shivering up a storm. Sean didn't hesitate to take his jacket off and wrap it around her carefully. She whispered a quiet thank you as she clutched the coat.
~~~
Nick brought Paityn over to her house letting her go to her bed and lay down. He grabbed a cold washcloth putting it on her head gently and she winced a bit.
"Nick. I can go back to work. I just got scared." She said. He gently moved some hair away from her neck looking at the bruises.
"Not like this you can't." He said. She gave him a pleading look. "I can't do anything without your boyfriend..."He started but she let out a weak growl. "Captain, firing me or giving me a lecture." He said.
"Worth the lecture. I'll take a nap and I'll be good to go." She said.
~~~
Paityn woke up after her nap hearing Nick downstairs. She got up slowly walking downstairs seeing her leg not swollen anymore probably due to sleep and not moving it.
"Morning. I told the Captain what you said." He started.
"And?" She asked.
"Well, he did give me a lecture. But what we have to do in the next 30 minutes isn't difficult meaning he said you could come with." Nick said. Paityn started celebrating a bit excited. "Only, if you stay by my side." He finished.
"I'm down. I'll be stuck to you like glue." She said smiling.
"You better. I don't want another lecture from the captain." He said laughing a bit. "You better be ready in, 15 minutes." He said.
"I can do it in 10." She said running upstairs managing to get into new clothes and grab her stuff within 7 minutes. "I'm done. Let's do this." She said.
~~~
They arrived at a big complex building and they managed to get inside. She stayed right beside Nick not leaving his side for a second. They took an elevator up and brought Adalind inside. Paityn sat down in a chair letting her leg rest before it started hurting again. Wu contacted Nick telling them what was going on.
"Good work. Now let's hope that Melissa Wincroft takes the bait." He said hanging up quickly.
"Do you really think this will work?" Adalind asked.
"No doubt. You got the best detectives here with you. It'll work." Paityn said smiling. Nick and Hank looked at her confused for her childish behavior. Adalind laughed a bit.
"We gotta smoke her out of her hiding place somehow. Every eye in the department is on your place." Hank said.
"Thanks, detectives. This is probably a big inconvenience for you." She said looking around kinda helpless.
"No. We're just doing our jobs. Nothing more." Nick said. Paityn glanced at him confused. He almost seemed to hate Adalind.
"Anyone want some room service?" Hank asked trying to make the situation a bit less uncomfortable.
"No thanks. I'm not really hungry." Adalind said.
"Me neither," Paityn said.
"Uh, how about some tea? Chamomile. Nice and relaxing." Hank said glaring at Nick.
"Sure." Adalind smiled and Hank left to go make some tea. Paityn stood up following him not wanting to be in the aura of Nick's anger at the moment.
"What do you think is up with Nick?" Hank asked.
"I don't know. It seems like he's trying to get a confession out of her or something." She said. Hank sighed.
"He's your brother. I'm gonna hope you can figure this out." He said. He put a cup under the tea maker and suddenly two bees landed on Hank's shoulder. Paityn paled a bit.
"Oh no." She said turning around to the room that was crowded with bees. He threw me a towel and we started swatting at them trying to get them out of the window.
"Damn it! We could use some help here!" Hank yelled as Paityn tried not to get stung again. Nick ran in and Paityn threw him a towel. He ran to the window trying to shut it. "It won't budge!" Hank said quickly.
"What the hell! It's like they're targetting us all!" Paityn yelled and suddenly they all started retreating. "What the hell?" She said confused.
"Where are they going?" Hank asked. Nick quickly ran out of the room with Paityn following behind him.
"Adalind?" Nick asked. When they got back to the living room she was gone. How she was able to run in high heels was beyond her. They looked over at the window seeing it swarmed with bees.
"Oh hell no," Paityn said. They all ran to the door as Nick opened it.
"No sign of forced entry!" He yelled running out.
"Why would she run?!" Hank asked confused.
"Button is still lit. She didn't take it." Nick said motioning to the elevator.
"Stairs. Nick, you and I will go down. Hank." She said.
"I'll go up. Got it. Go!" Hank yelled. Nick and Paityn ran out the door to the stairs running down them as fast as they could while Hank ran up. They got down at least 3 flights of stairs before looking over the railing and seeing her hair.
"Adalind!" Nick yelled going faster. Eventually, they ran into a door. Nick opened it and Paityn started to run down the stairs. But of course, she stepped wrong and twisted her ankle causing her to yelp. Nick paused looking at her worried.
"Just go! I'll be alright!" She yelled. Nick nodded running out the door as Paityn grabbed her scarf she was wearing and took her shoe off managing to tie it around her foot and ankle like a brace. She got her shoe back on continuing to run despite the pain. She walked out seeing Nick with his gun out and bees swarming certain metal spots.
Melissa walked out in front of Nick with a needle in her hands that made shivers go down her spine. Nick aimed his gun at her quickly.
"I have to kill her. You don't understand." Melissa said.
"Drop it. I'm arresting you for the murders of Serena Dunbrook and Camilla Gotleib." Nick said walking forward. Paityn followed behind him taking her taser out just in case.
"I did it to protect you." She said.
"You still killed two innocent girls," Paityn said.
"We're Clarions. We send the warning call. We're on your side." She said. "The lawsuit. It was a conspiracy to get rid of us. They're not just lawyers." She said trying to get away.
"Doesn't matter. You killed two people." Nick said.
"Two Hexenbiests! Closing the mill was their way of stopping us from warning you both." She said walking further away.
"Warning us both?" Paityn asked confused.
"Something's coming. Something bad." She said.
"Yeah. It's gonna be you in handcuffs going into a cell." Paityn said.
"I have to finish this," Melissa said walking away fast.
"Melissa! Don't do it!" Paityn yelled out worried and she tried to go after them but quickly bees surrounded them not letting them pass as she heard Melissa and Adalind fighting.
"This isn't your problem! Don't make a mistake!" Adalind said.
"She'll harm you don't listen to her!" Melissa said.
"You both are cops! Do your jobs!" Adalind yelled as Nick and Paityn ran behind a few metal structures trying to get closer.
"You're a Grimm! That's more important." Melissa screamed.
"Back away from each other!" Paityn yelled about to tase them when the bees surrounded her yet again. "Dammit!"
"Help me! Please! She killed my friends!" Adalind yelled at Hank as he finally came downstairs.
"Melissa back away!" Nick yelled about to shoot. Right as she was about to stab her Nick fired a few shots into her making her drop the needle and hold her stomach tightly for a moment. Hank walked over to Adalind.
"Adalind. Are you okay?" He asked quietly. Adalind broke down sobbing in Hank's arms and Paityn went by Nick's side. Paityn watched her face shift to a bee as she fell to her knees and then back to normal.
"He's coming for you." She said weakly.
"Who is?" Paityn asked.
"Beware. It's close." She said. She looked around before falling to the ground and all the bees quieted down before dropping to the ground dead.
Paityn returned home and she walked up to her room carefully after hurting her ankle. She sat down on her bed taking her shoes off and then the scarf. She winced at how swollen it was.
"Son of a bitch." She said. She moved her ankle around a bit. "Doesn't hurt too bad quite yet. Just a sprain." She sighed. She laid down in her bed closing her eyes and trying to drift to sleep.
~~~
Paityn was running. She didn't know where she was or why she was running. All she knew was to run. She had to stop after coming up to a brick wall. She turned around seeing what looked like a ghost chase her and open its mouth wide screaming as it tried to hurt her with its sharp claws.
Paityn woke up with a gasp sweating profusely and she ran her hands through her hair shaking. She looked at the time seeing she was only asleep for around 3 hours. She looked over at the window seeing it was open and she stood up limping over to it. She went to shut it when a bee landed on her hand. She smiled a bit as it just sat there on her hand. Suddenly it stung her making her yelp in pain and retract swatting it off her as it flew away.
"Dammit!" She said closing the window.
