Chapter 15 Island of Dreams

"Woosh! There I got down the waterslide! It was insane!" Pearl yelled out. Paityn and Pearl were having lunch at a Cafe. Paityn laughed. She needed time away from work so for 2 weeks she's been away on a leave. Sean got her a therapist just in case to go to and now Paityn was hanging out with Pearl who was on a vacation earlier. She was currently talking about her waterslide experience.

"Sounds like it was a ton of fun." Paityn smiled taking a sip of her hot cocoa. Pearl nodded enthusiastically.

"Heck yeah, it was! Except I got a ton of bruises from those slides." Pearl said rubbing her shin. Paityn laughed a small bit and her phone began ringing so she picked it up.

"Burkhardt, "Paityn said. She was only on call right now.

"Hey, Pait. We got a case, one involving a Wesen. You in?" Nick asked. Paityn sighed.

"I'll see you in 10." She said hanging up. "Duty calls." Paityn smiled softly.

"I understand. Good luck." Pearl smiled. Paityn sighed.

"I'm going to need it."

~~~
Paityn walked into the spice shop seeing Fred on the ground dead. Paityn had to use every part of her body to not let tears slip since she kinda knew him.
"What do we have?" Paityn asked making Hank and Nick jump.
"Nothing too much. Welcome back." Hank smiled. Paityn nodded kneeling beside Fred.
"Well, we know he was shot at close range. There are some powder burns on his clothing." Nick said. Paityn analyzed Fred for a moment.
"He's got blood in his mouth," Paityn said.
"Internal bleeding?" Hank suggested. Nick pulled out a chunk of skin from inside his mouth. Paityn winced.
"Looks kinda human." Hank sighed.
"He took a bite out of his killer?" Wu asked.
"Looks like it." Nick sighed putting it in a jar.
"Makes for some nice DNA."Paityn sighed. Paityn shook a bit.
"Why kill the owner of a tea and spice shop? How much money could there be in a place like this?" Wu asked.
"I was friends with this guy. He has a basement." Paityn sighed. Nick looked at her confused and Paityn just gave him a look meaning 'I'll explain later.'
They went into the basement shining their flashlights around. Paityn followed Nick not wanting to be alone.
"An awful lot of herbs and spices," Wu said.
"Yeah, who knows what all this stuff is." Hank sighed.
"We better get it all tested," Nick said. Paityn turned around facing Hank.
"We gotta find the phone records and find his next of kin." Paityn sighed.
~~~

"I got a Rosalee Calvert. Victim's sister. Listed as beneficiary, lives in Seattle." Nick said. Paityn followed in fast strides not planning on staying behind.

"Want me to make the call?" Hank asked.

"I got it." Paityn sighed going to her desk and dialing the number.

"Hello." She heard Rosalee say.

"Is this Rosalee Calvert?" Paityn asked.

"Yes." She said. Paityn took a silenced deep breath.

"This is detective Burkhardt from the Portland police department. You have a brother Frederick Calvert?" Paityn asked. Rosalee paused.

"Yes." She said. Paityn was slightly irritated with the small responses but she carried on.

~~~
Wu walked in with Rosalee and he gave the trio a sympathetic smile.
"Detectives Burkhardt and Griffin. This is Rosalee Calvert." Wu said. Paityn gave Rosalee a small smile as Wu walked away to attend to other business.
"I'm sorry you had to come here under these circumstances," Nick said as Rosalee stood there.
"Please. Sit down." Hank said offering her a chair.
"Who killed him?" Rosalee asked them without sitting down.
"We don't know yet." Hank sighed.
"What do you know?" Rosalee asked.
"He was killed in an apparent robbery. No money was taken so we assume they were after something else in the shop. He was able to set off the emergency alarm, so we don't know if they got what they were looking for." Paityn sighed. It was silent for a bit.
"What do you know about your brother's business?" Hank asked.
"He sold tea, spices, and herbs. Not very complicated. My brother didn't have any enemies that I know of. Was that your next question?" Rosalee asked. Paityn gave her another sympathetic smile.
"Do you know if your brother was dealing in anything illegal?" Nick asked.
"No, I saw him once a year and I spoke to him mostly on the phone. I want to bury him." Rosalee paused getting choked up. "I want to close up his shop and I wanna go home. So what do I have to do to get that done?" She asked. Nick looked at Hank.
"Lab reports are in," Hank said.
"I'd like to go to the shop. Can I do that?" Rosalee asked.
"It's an ongoing investigation. One of us will have to go with you." Paityn said standing up.
~~~

Paityn and Rosalee walked into the spice shop. Rosalee walked around while Paityn stayed in the back. Rosalee kneeled on the floor, she woged into a Fuchsbau just like her brother was. She made a small whimpering sound as she looked at the blood-stained carpet.

"We don't know if that's all your brother's blood. All right, he might have taken a bite out of the killer." Paityn said. Rosalee looked at her and then stood up backing away fast. Paityn raised her hands quickly. "It's alright. I was a friend of your brothers. I didn't hurt him nor do I want to hurt anyone." Paityn said quickly.

"He wouldn't want to be friends with a Grimm." She growled.

"I also have a friend who is a Mitternachtsfee," Paityn said. "Does that help?" Rosalee seemed to relax a bit.

"Pearl." She said. Paityn smiled a small bit. "You're pregnant too. I can smell it." She said.

"You can smell pregnancies?" Paityn asked.

"Not as good as Blutbadden can but we can," Rosalee said. Suddenly Paityn's phone starts ringing and she picks it up.

"Burkhardt." She said.

"Went over the lab reports. We've got a big fat nothing. Just like the sign says, herbs, spices, and teas. A few are poisonous, but none are illegal. You get anything?" Hank asked her.

"Not yet. I think the sister's clean. I'm coming back." Paityn said hanging up. She looked at Rosalee who looked extremely warry of her. "If you need anything call me," Paityn said quietly handing her a card with her info on it. Rosalee took it carefully.

"You're not really what I expected," Rosalee said.

"I get that a lot." Paityn sighed.

"If you find anything..." Rosalee started.

"I will call you or my brother will." Paityn smiled softly before walking out.

~~~
Paityn went over to Monroe's house knocking. When he answered the door he gave her an extremely confused look.
"I know my brother only does this but I decided to actually do something for once and my other Wesen friend just got back from vacation. Are you able to maybe check out a file?" Paityn asked. Monroe gave her a gentle smile.
"Only since you asked so kindly," Monroe said offering her inside and she walked in. "Coffee?" He offered.
"I don't think I'm supposed to drink coffee while prego," Paityn said. Monroe looked at her confused and then he took a sniff and made an 'Oh' look with his mouth.
"Right. Water." Monroe said going to the kitchen. Paityn shut the door chuckling a bit and sat down on his couch carefully. It had been a while since she'd been here. Everything seemed different somehow but she couldn't place a finger on it. Monroe walked over to her handing her a glass of water and Paityn gave him an appreciative smile.
"Thank you." Paityn smiled. She took a sip of her water and carefully gave him the file she had.
"This is the file?" He asked.
Paityn nodded. "Yeah, that's it. I was hoping you may recognize one of the things in there. Something a Wesen might kill for." Paityn said. Monroe looked at it and sighed.
"Probably. I don't know what any of these words mean. Beramethyl Silacybante? Hornisolic Fullmanoxin. I mean, what the heck is this stuff?" Monroe said setting the file down. Paityn sighed quietly.
"No need to worry," Paityn said standing up. She suddenly got an idea. "Would you be able to recognize it if you saw it?" She asked. Monroe nodded slowly.
"Yeah I think so," Monroe said. Paityn smiled.
"Great. I'm driving. let's go." Paityn smiled as she began walking to the door.
"Woah wait! Where are we going?!" Monroe yelled out stumbling to catch up.
~~~

Paityn knocked on the door of the shop waiting for Rosalee to open it. When she did Paityn gave her a small smile.

"Another partner of yours?" Rosalee asked.

"No. He's a friend of mine and Nick's. This is Monroe. Monroe this is Rosalee Calvert." Paityn said. Monroe stuck his hand out.

"I knew your brother. I'm so sorry." Monroe said as they shook hands.

"Would you mind if we peaked at the basement one more time?" Paityn asked. Rosalee motioned her head to the basement. They nodded walking down and Monroe began looking through things. Paityn went to an open box. "This box is open. Some of the vials have been taken." Paityn said lifting the box. Monroe came over grabbing one looking at it.

"I can't be certain but it looks a little like 'J.'" Monroe said. Paityn gave him a confused look.

"Um. What's 'J'?" Paityn asked.

"It's a shortened form of Jansene. It's a kind of mold. It's lethal to most of humanity, but it's like a drug to us. And by us I mean..." Monroe started.

"Wesen. Gotcha." Paityn sighed.

"If used correctly it can be an incredible pain killer. It's highly addictive and not good for the brain." Monroe said.

"Well, most drugs are not," Paityn stated. Rosalee came down without Paityn seeing her.

"Did you find anything?" She asked and Paityn yelped in fear. Paityn laughed a small bit before giving a small smile.

"Do you know about a drug called 'J'?" Paityn asked.

"Yes," Rosalee said.

"Do you know if your brother was selling it?" Paityn asked.

"Even if he was...It's not illegal." Rosalee said.

"She's right. That's why you...the cop you..doesn't know about it." Monroe said.

"I need to know everything in this basement that a Wesen would kill for," Paityn said quietly.

"Will it help you find out who killed my brother?" She asked.

"Most certainly," Paityn reassured her.

"Then I'll start now," Rosalee said.

"Thank you," Paityn said beginning to walk past Rosalee to the stairs. "I'll call you later." Monroe began to follow Paityn but Rosalee grabbed his arm.

"You said you knew my brother?" She asked. Monroe nodded confused and Rosalee woged into a Fuchsbau. Monroe followed suit and woged into a Blutbad. Paityn had stopped and was watching both of them with a small smile on her face. "Just checking. So they don't know do they?" Rosalee asked making Paityn give her a slightly confused look but Paityn understood.

"No. They don't know. Except for my brother of course." Paityn said giving a small smile. "Does it matter?" She asked.

"I'm just trying to understand how this works," Rosalee said.

"It's a little complicated." Monroe sighed.

"Yeah, I can see that," Rosalee said as she looked at them both confused. "Just find the men who killed my brother." She said.

"I will. I promise." Paityn said. With that Paityn and Monroe left the shop.

~~~
Paityn had gone home that night falling asleep to wake up in the morning. She did her morning routine of feeding Lyra, eating a small breakfast in worry her brother would call in a homicide, and getting dressed. She was also in the process of moving into Sean's Condo.
She got to work sitting at her desk. Nick and Hank were already there. Hank gave her a good morning while Nick gave her a small smile.
"Anything interesting happen yet?" Paityn asked.
"Not as of right now." Nick sighed. Paityn smiled a small bit as Hank gave her a water bottle.
"Thank you, Hank." She said and he nodded.
"Why would these guys kill a shopkeeper for some herbs and spices that aren't even illegal?" Hank asked.
"There are plenty of legal substances that can fry your brain," Paityn said taking a sip of her water. Nick gave her an approving smile and Paityn returned it. Nick's phone was ringing and he picked it up. Paityn didn't pay attention to the convo. She looked over to Sean's room to see him working on paperwork and she decided she was going to talk to him later.
"Cookie. Did you bring enough for everyone?" Wu asked. Paityn turned over, looking at Wu and then Hank.
"No," Hank said. Paityn giggled a small bit.
"My mother made the best cookies on the block. She shared them with everyone and they loved her for it." Wu said. They had an intense stare-off for a bit. "All right I'll go Cookie-less." He said as he handed Hank a file and Paityn laughed.
"What do we got?" Nick asked finally off the phone.
"It looks like we got a vehicle I.D. for Clint Vickers. One of our perps." Hank said.
"We got a patrol car on the street watching the car. So far no sightings." Wu stated.
"I need you to go back to the spice shop, keep an eye on things. We'll check out the car." Nick said. Hank and Nick stood up as Wu agreed. Paityn waited just a small bit before standing up going by Wu watching Hank leave. Wu picked up the cookie.
"You should give me half," Paityn said. Wu chuckled splitting it and giving half to her. "I'll owe you," Paityn whispered as she quickly ate the cookie running to catch after Hank and Nick.
~~~

The trio parked quickly and Paityn was the first one out. She went over to Officer Franco as he began talking and pointing to a car opposite of them.

"Okay, that's the car and I'm guessing they're in that building," Franco said.

"Any contact?" Hank asked.

"No movement," Franco said.

"Okay. Go around back. We got the front." Paityn said grabbing her gun out and walking forward. They slowly walked inside the building with guns raised and flashlights. They kept walking while finding German writing on the wall. When they got up top, Hank motioned for them to split up. They walked to 3 separate rooms and suddenly gunshots went off. Paityn covered her ears falling to the ground to protect herself.

She curled into a ball shielding both the baby, her eyes, and her ears. She waited till the noises stopped before looking around. Nick ran over as she was sitting up.

"Are you okay?" He asked quickly.

"I'm alright. What about you?" Paityn asked.

"I'm fine. Let's go we need to catch them." Nick said. Paityn looked at Hank and he waved her off motioning that he was fine. All three of them burst into a run through the halls. Paityn had her gun pointing at the ground ready. Paityn neared a corner peaking around as Nick pointed his gun seeing the two men run off.

"Hank," Paityn whispered looking behind her. She gave a confused look seeing he wasn't there. "What the hell?" She said and Nick looked behind her moving to the stairs seeing him walking down slowly and then down the hall. They began to walk down the stairs confused.

"Hank?" Nick asked confused. Nick got downstairs with Paityn.

"Hank. Hey." Paityn whispered.

"I saw someone," Hank said. Nick looked around.

"Who?" Nick asked.

"I don't know," Hank said. Suddenly they heard car doors opening and shutting. Hank moved a piece of plastic away from the window seeing them drive away in a car.

"Well Shit." Paityn sighed.

~~~
Paityn was leaning against a wall. Her head was spinning and her body felt weak. Her pulse was quick, she could feel it in her head every time her heart pumped. She felt sweat accumulating on her head and she had to continuously wipe it off. She jumped hearing Sean knock on the door. She looked at him but he didn't look at her right away.
"They got away. Mind telling me what happened?" He asked.
"They made us when we got here. We lost them." Nick said.
"Captain it was my fault," Hank said.
Paityn looked at them both confused not able to comprehend anything. She was almost ready to pass out at this point.
"How?" Sean asked.
"I thought I saw somebody. I didn't want them to get hurt. I got distracted and they got away." Hank sighed. Nick got a phone call and he answered it. Paityn coughed a small bit making Sean turn to look at her finally. He gently grabbed her arm.
"Are you okay?" He asked quietly.
"My head is pounding and I feel like I just ran a marathon." Paityn murmured. Sean looked around.
"I'll finish up here as fast as I can. Hang on." Sean whispered. Paityn nodded barely able to respond. Sean talked to Hank a bit gathering evidence before quickly putting his hand behind Paityn's back and pushing her towards the door fast. He began bringing her to his car which was alone behind the building.
"Sean?" Paityn said. Sean looked at her worried. "I don't feel so good." She said and with that, she collapsed to the ground. Her face began bubbling like blisters and Sean cursed multiple times before picking her up and getting her in his car as fast as possible. He managed to speed over to Catherine's house. He got Paityn out of the carr carrying her bridal style and kicked the door hard due to not being able to knock.
"Catherine! Let me in!" Sean yelled. She opened the door seeing Paityn and quickly getting things as Sean set her on the couch. Paityn let out a few whimpers and Sean held her hand gently. "I'm here. I got you." Sean said. Catherine got everything and began gently patting it on Paityn's face.
"What the hell did she eat that had the curse in it?" Catherine asked. Sean cursed.
"Hank. He must've left something out and Paityn must've had some. Dammit." Sean cursed yet again. Paityn sat up abruptly yelling and Sean wrapped his arms around her bringing her down slowly trying to keep her still and calm.
"Her mouth. Open her mouth." Catherine said. Sean did exactly that and held open Paityn's mouth. Catherine poured the liquid into her mouth and Paityn's almost choked. Sean tried to keep her calm and she started yelling in fear seeing their faces falling off like it was melting. Catherine covered her face carefully.
~~~

It had been at least 6 hours since Paityn went under. Sean hadn't left her side and Catherine was pacing.

"Who knows what kind of effects it'll have on the baby." Catherine scolded.

"Catherine shut up. I am trying to focus on her." Sean said. Catherine scoffed.

"For what?" Catherine rolled her eyes. "You know, if that baby dies it'll be on you." She crossed her arms over her chest.

"Like hell, it is," Sean said. He stood up and glared daggers at Catherine. "It's your daughter's fault. It's Adalind's fault. Don't put this on me." Sean said. Paityn whimpered quietly and Sean froze for a split second before rushing over to her side. "I'm here Pait," Sean whispered. He gently tucked some hair behind her ears and she shivered.

"It's cold." She murmured. Sean took off his coat fast while leaning her up and wrapping her in it.

"I got you. Don't you worry." Sean muttered. Catherine went up to him quietly. She leaned down and whispered in his ear.

"Don't put this on my daughter. It was Paityn's fault she got it in her system." Catherine hissed. Sean had to hold back to urge to strangle her and instead, Sean just stroked Paityn's hair and she slowly stopped shivering.

"You shut your mouth, Catherine, before I do it for you," Sean growled. Paityn opened her eyes slowly seeing Sean kneeling beside her and Catherine beside her. Paityn looked at Sean confused and then Sean sighed turning to Catherine. Catherine proceeded to woge and Paityn widened her eyes.

"Hexenbiest. Sean is this..." Paityn started but Sean sighed.

"Yeah. The Hexenbiest I was working with. You passed out and I didn't know what else to do." Sean said. Paityn looked at Sean and gave him a gentle smile. She leaned forward and kissed his head gently. Paityn moved back a small bit and tried to stand up. Sean stood up quickly grabbing her arm softly and helping her stand. Paityn carefully leaned on Sean with most of her weight. She looked up at Catherine who was watching her intently.

"What are you looking at?" Catherine asked. Paityn gave her a gentle smile and moved away from Sean hugging Catherine and Catherine tensed up quite quickly.

"Thank you," Paityn said quietly before backing up. Both Catherine and Sean looked at her with a mix of confusion and shock. After a few minutes, Sean grabbed Paityn's hand.

"Let's get you home," Sean said. Paityn nodded slowly walking with him outside to his car and getting in carefully. When they started driving Sean held her hand, running his thumb across it. "How are you feeling?" Sean asked.

"Tired. Definitely." Paityn sighed. Sean chuckled a bit continuing to drive. Paityn slowly rested her head on his shoulder and Sean took one hand off the steering wheel, wrapping it around her torso.

"I got you. Just rest." Sean whispered.

"Before I sleep, we should get food," Paityn said. Sean looked at Paityn confused.

"Food? You just woke up after passing out and you want food?" Sean asked smiling a small bit.

"Hey! I'm the woman carrying the baby!" Paityn yelled. Sean chuckled. Paityn pulled out her phone which had a small crack tracing from the middle of the left side of the phone to the top right corner of it. She sighed and searched up the nearest fast-food restaurant. Which turned out to be a Wendy's.

~~~
Sean pulled up to the drive-through. Paityn asked for a Caesar Side Salad. Sean gave her a confused look and she shrugged. Sean shook his head and smiled just finishing the order. Paityn got her salad and she took a bite of the lettuce. Without even realizing it, She looked at the fork and took a prong off eating it. Sean didn't notice but did take notice of the crunch.
"What was that?" He asked. Paityn hummed.
"My fork broke. I can't find the other piece." Paityn sighed. "It's fine. I'll find it later." Paityn continued eating her salad.
~~~

Paityn got to her house seeing the for sale sign in the front yard. Lyra was jumping at the window pawing at it. Paityn got out quickly running over to her door and opening it. Lyra meowed frantically.

"Hey, girl. What's wrong?" Paityn asked. Lyra ran to the door to her backyard. Paityn went over to it and opened it slowly so it wouldn't make much of a noise. Someone was in her backyard. Their face was covered and they were looking around. Paityn took out her gun slowly and she went outside. It was pitch black outside. The moon was hidden by the clouds and Paityn took that to her advantage. Paityn slowly walked behind the man. Her gun was pointed at him. She heard someone trail behind her and she knew it was Sean. Paityn put her gun to the man's head. "Turn around. Slowly." Paityn growled.

The man let out a laugh and Paityn growled. He began slowly turning around and raising his arms. Paityn took a second to glance at Sean to see his face intent on who this was.

"What are you laughing at?" Paityn growled. The man quickly grabbed her arm before Paityn could react twisting making her yelp in pain and drop her gun. Sean went to tackle him but he kicked Paityn's chest knocking her into Sean preventing him. The man began to run and Paityn regained her balance and grabbed her gun sprinting after the man. He jumped over her fence and Paityn followed suit.

"Paityn! Slow down!" Sean yelled. Paityn kept going speeding up. She had to catch this guy no matter what. Paityn loaded her gun and shot an area next to him to hope he would slip from the shock. It didn't work. Paityn aimed at his leg and fired. Paityn heard the deafening ring and watched as he collapsed to the ground. He tried to crawl away but Paityn quickly stepped on his back panting heavily. Sean followed behind her handcuffing him quickly. Sean shined his light at his face so they could see and Paityn's face drained of blood.

"L-Liam? How the hell?" Paityn asked shocked. Sean growled shoving him forward. Liam limped heavily while bleeding.

"You have no idea what you've entered into do you Paityn?" Liam growled. Paityn followed behind Sean.

"Then tell me. What did I enter into?" Paityn asked.

"A war. And you're everyone's target." Liam smirked. A police car showed up at her house taking Liam and getting him in the back. Paityn's hands were shaking and her breathing was shakey.

"I, I need to call Nick." Paityn murmured. Her heart was pounding and her palms were sweaty. Sean followed her to her backyard to make sure she was okay. Before Paityn could call Nick, Sean wrapped his arms around her.

"Are you okay?" He asked. Paityn listened to his heartbeat for a moment.

"How did he escape?" Paityn avoided. She didn't know how she felt at all, so she couldn't answer.

"During his transfer, he had an inside team. They managed to execute the drivers and get the back open. That's how he escaped." Sean whispered. Paityn closed her eyes, backing up to the fence.

"How long have you known?" Paityn asked. Sean looked at her nervous.

"Over a month," Sean said. Paityn froze. Nobody had told her he had escaped for over a month. Paityn looked up at Sean.

"Why?" She asked. Her eyes watered.

"Why what Paityn?" Sean asked. Although he knew all too well what she meant.

"Why keep this from me? Why would you not tell me anything for over a month?" Paityn asked.

"I wanted to make sure you were okay before I told you anything," Sean said.

"I should have known this Sean! I should have known this! He's been watching me for weeks now Sean!" Paityn yelled.

"Why didn't you tell me that?" Sean asked suddenly concerned.

"Oh, I don't know. The same reason you didn't tell me the one person who wants me dead escaped." Paityn crossed her arms.

"I did it to protect you, Pait," Sean said calmly.

"You put the baby and me in danger." She said. Sean looked at her apologetically.

"Paityn. You need to understand why I did it." He said. Paityn looked at him and she outright smacked him across the face. "I deserved that," Sean said.

"You need to go before I do something worse," Paityn said. By now, tears are streaming down her face. Sean looked at her for a moment before nodding and leaving. Paityn covered her mouth falling to her knees sobbing. She ran her hands through her hair and moved to bite her hand carefully.

~~~
Paityn called her brother after a good 30 minutes. She sniffed as he answered.
"Pait. Hey, everything alright?" He asked.
 "No. Nick, I need you to pick me up or something. Please." Paityn said. Nick began searching for his keys.
"I have Monroe and Rosalee with me right now. Can you tell me what's wrong?" Nick asked.
"Did you know Liam escaped?" Paityn asked.
"He what?" Nick asked shocked.
"I'll take that as a no. Just pick me up at my house please." Paityn said and she hung up. She went inside feeding Lyra and she waited outside wiping the stray tears that fell down her face. Nick pulled up to her driveway getting out and going over to her.
"Paityn. Hey. What's going on?" He asked. Paityn, instead of answering, wrapped her arms around him. Nick didn't hesitate to do the same.
"Liam escaped. Sean knew about it for over a month and didn't tell me." Paityn said. Nick cursed under his breath.
"I got you, Pait. I got you." Nick whispered.
"I hurt him, Nick." Paityn whimpered. "I hurt him. Oh my god, I'm a horrible person. I'm going to be a horrible mom." Paityn said quickly as the tears began to continue and Nick tightened his grip.
"No, you are not Paityn. You are going to be an amazing mom. I know it. And you are not a horrible person." Nick whispered. He kissed her head gently and Paityn broke down again. Nick held her carefully as she cried. While she was breaking down Monroe and Rosalee got out of the car. Monroe gently put his hand on her arm and Rosalee rubbed her back softly.
"We got you. Come on. We need to go. Rosalee. Did you get the cards?" Nick asked.
~~~

Paityn was in the car sitting next to Rosalee. Paityn was struggling to stay awake after everything that happened.

"It's my brother. I should be the one that goes in." Rosalee said. Paityn began getting out but Nick stopped her.

"Stay here. You've both done enough." Nick said. Paityn got back in and she wiped her eyes. Rosalee sighed. Paityn watched them woge and then go inside the building.

"F this. I'm not waiting in here." Paityn said. She opened the door just in time to see people running out like crazy. Paityn ran over to the spot getting tackled by someone and she growled seeing them woge into a Lausenschlange.

"Grimm." It said and it stuck a snake-like tongue out. "This day might end up okay for me anyways," it said.

"Too bad for you," Paityn said. Paityn grabbed a brick nearby. "You messed with the wrong Grimm," Paityn said. She wrapped her legs around his sides and twisted herself up and to the right fast enough so it would overpower him and he'd be knocked to the ground. She quickly managed to knock him unconscious with a single hit of the brick. Paityn stood up seeing Rosalee run over to her and Paityn tossed her the brick.

"Thanks," Rosalee said. Paityn noded and Rosalee whacked one of the two men down with the brick.

"Paityn! I told you to stay in the car." Nick said coming over to her.

"And I wasn't going to leave my brother alone in there," Paityn said. Nick murmured something under his breath and he grabbed her arm carefully bringing her back to the car.

~~~
Paityn sat at her table in her house. At least what was still partly her house. She still had her couch, table, and TV on the bottom floor plus a few dishes. She either had to take her house off the market or figure out what to do with Sean. Paityn looked at Lyra who was sitting at the door staring at it.
"What are you doing girl? You want to go outside?" Paityn asked. She stood up as Lyra meowed and Paityn opened the door. Lyra ran out fast and Paityn watched out to try and watch her but within seconds she was out of sight.
~~~

Paityn had on a light blue rain jacket and flashlight. It had begun to pour the moment she ran out.

"Lyra!" Paityn yelled out. Paityn ran around trying to find her. She was practically hyperventilating but she kept going. She clicked her tongue hoping Lyra would come over to her. Paityn covered her mouth with her hand holding back sobs. "Lyra! Get over here!" Paityn screamed. It was the middle of the road while pouring and it was pitch black.

Paityn pounded on the door hoping he would answer not knowing who else to go to. The door opened revealing a frustrated and teary-eyed Sean.

"I, I didn't know what to do. L-Lyra g-got away and I, I didn't know who else, to go to." Paityn said quickly and took a sharp breath at the end. Sean looked at her slightly worried. "I, I c-can't find her S-Sean." Paityn murmured. Sean went back inside grabbing his jacket and a flashlight.

"Come on. Let's go find her." Sean said. Paityn nodded quickly following him outside into the rain. They searched for hours until at least 2 in the morning. Paityn was soaked head to toe. Sean sighed looking at her. He shook his head and Paityn collapsed to her knees. She let out a scream and Sean ran to her side wrapping his arms around her. Paityn gripped his sleeves so tight her knuckles were white. "I got you. I got you." Sean said.

"She's out here. She has to-to be." Paityn whimpered. Sean nodded holding her carefully.

"I know. We'll find her. I promise." He whispered. He held her close to him letting her cry into his coat despite them both being soaked. "We need to get you out of these clothes. I'm not letting you get sick." Sean said. He stood up and picked her up wrapping her legs around his waist and her arms wrapped around his shoulders. He kept one hand around her waist to keep her up and he began walking to her house.

"I, I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Paityn sobbed. Sean shook his head.

He shushed her softly, "It's okay. It was my fault, not yours. I should've told you. I'm the idiot who put you in danger. Don't apologize." Paityn looked at him and she put her hand on his cheek and he looked at her, understanding what she meant. He gently put his free hand on her hand. "It doesn't hurt. I promise." He gave her a small smile. She nodded.

"We, we still need to find Lyra," Paityn said wiping her eyes. Sean nodded.

"We need to rest and get you dry clothes first Pait," Sean said. Paityn nodded vigorously and Sean continued.

~~~
They got to Paityn's house and Sean set her down gingerly. He gave her a concerned look.
"I should get going," Sean said. He turned around to walk out the door and Paityn wrapped her arms around his waist fast. He froze in his spot.
"Please. Don't leave." Paityn trembled. Sean relaxed a small bit and he grabbed the doorknob feeling her grip tighten thinking he was leaving. He shut it carefully and he grabbed her hands, intertwining his fingers with hers.
"I'll stay." He smiled softly. Paityn choked a sob from behind him while whimpering a quiet 'thank you.'
