Chapter 10 Organ Grinder
Paityn was at home studying more of the files. She knew Sean said he would help her, but she didn't know when so she would have to do most of it herself. She pinned up a few pictures of him on her board that was hanging on her wall. Liam had done so much stuff Paityn was surprised he was able to even walk into the police building without someone recognizing him.
He had murdered at least 15 people, was charged with theft, and it wasn't the first time he assaulted a police officer. Paityn sighed as she got a phone call.
"Burkhardt." She said.
"Hey, Pait. I need you to take over for me at work for a bit." Nick said.
"Nick, I don't know how that's going to work." She said.
"I know I know I'm sorry. Something came up and I can't work for a bit. You can do it right?" He asked. Paityn sighed.
"Yeah, sure. Just know I'm kicking your ass when you get back." She said.
"Thank you, sis. And I don't mean for the ass-kicking. Love you." He said.
"Love you too." She said hanging up. She sighed grabbing her jacket and putting it on. Paityn gently pat Lyra's head and smiled gently. "Be a good girl Lyra." She quickly walked out going to her car getting in. She began her drive to work when her phone rang again.
"Burkhardt." She said.
"We got a body," Wu said.
~~~
"Hey." Wu said as Paityn and Hank walked over."White male. Late teens. Looks like something pecked out his eyes." Wu said.
"Any I.D.?" Paityn asked.
"Nothing on him except for this," Wu said putting his palm out exposing a bunch of shells. " It was in his pockets." Wu finished.
"Puka shell necklace. I haven't seen one of those since I was in Waikiki on my first honeymoon." Hank said.
"This kid looks like he went about 50 rounds with Mike Tyson," Paityn said.
"Yeah, the fall from the rocks didn't do him any favors," Hank said. Paityn looked over at the waterfall and shivered.
"And the bruising looks postmortem," Paityn said.
"Yeah, he probably died before he fell," Hank said looking around.
"White fluid in his nostrils and around the edge of his mouth would suggest drowning," Wu said.
"Looks pretty pale, even for death," Paityn said as she kneeled to get a closer look.
"Yeah, could be the cold water," Hank said. Paityn nodded and then gently moved the kids head with her gloved hand exposing two circular marks on his neck.
"Yeah, or this." She said. Hank tilted his head to be able to see.
"Well, anybody believe in vampires?" Wu asked. Hank smirked a bit and Paityn scoffed.
"Ha-ha." She said looking over to the falls.
~~~
"Well, I can't tell you exactly what his hemoglobin or hematocrit count was before he died, but by my estimate, this kid was cruising on about a fourth of a tank of blood," Harper said.
"So how many pints down is that?" Hank asked.
"Almost 7 plus," Harper said. Paityn winced.
"Well, could he have been a hemophiliac?" Paityn asked.
"I tested for that. Nope. And no drugs in his system either." Harper said.
"What about the wounds on his neck?" Hank asked.
"Well, Could be vampires." She said tilting his neck. "Or someone who wants to be a vampire or somebody who wants to get a lot of blood fast. These are about the size of an I.V. needle. My hope? It's an I.V." Harper said.
"Okay, how does a kid end up with an I.V. in their neck and then end up in a river and then after that over a waterfall?" Paityn asked.
"I saw a lot of this sort of stuff in the late '80s when the satanic cults were all the rage. But not lately. Maybe they're making a comeback." Harper suggested.
"So what killed him?" Hank asked.
"Oh he drowned, but my guess is he drowned because he was incredibly weak from loss of blood," Harper said.
"So was it an accident or a homicide?" Hank asked.
"Nobody would put an I.V. in someone's neck by accident," Paityn said.
~~~
Paityn and Hank were back at the office trying to find out who their vic was. Hank was looking through files and Paityn was waiting for a print analysis. A beep sounded and a face popped up on the screen.
"We got a hit on the prints," Paityn said turning to look at Hank who came over to her to look at her screen. "Name was Steven Bamford. 18." She said.
"And he had a record already. Shoplifting, drug possession, B&B. Last known address, Portland P.O. box. Zip is downtown. Check this out." Hank said and he put the file by her. "We found the body here at the base of the falls. The river above covers miles of territory with limited land access. There's no way to tell where he went into that river." Hank said confused.
"Let's start at the P.O. box, see if anybody knows him there." Paityn sighed.
"Yeah, print a few pictures to take with us," Hank said. Paityn nodded standing up while pressing print on the computer and she sighed.
"Thank's Nick. Give me the hard stuff. Ya jerk." Paityn muttered. Hank heard her and chuckled a bit.
~~~
Paityn opened the locker taking out the mail that was in the P.O. box. She looked at it seeing the names on them.
"He rented the box for about 6 months." The manager said.
"How often did he pick up his mail?" Paityn asked.
"Every couple of weeks but I haven't seen him in at least a month." He said.
"He ever come in with anybody?" Hank asked.
"Never paid attention. A lot of these street kids rent boxes from us, but as long as they pay their bills, I don't ask any questions." He said.
"Thanks," Paityn said going to leave when a girl walked in.
"Hey, Paityn. Wait a minute." Hank said walking over to the girl. Paityn paused turning to Hank. "Hey, that necklace you're wearing. Puka shell, right?" Hank asked.
"Yeah, why?" She asked. Paityn pulled out a picture of steven showing it to her.
"You ever seen this kid around here?" She asked.
"You cops?" She asked them.
"Don't worry. He hasn't done anything wrong.
"If you've seen him it's important," Paityn said putting it away.
"I've seen him around but I don't know him." She said.
"Where'd you get the necklace?" Hank asked.
"I traded for it." She said.
"With who?" Paityn asked. "Look. He's dead. We're just trying to figure out what happened to him." Paityn said. She was not looking to dilly daddle.
"She sells them across from the square. Name's Gracie." She said. Paityn gave a small smile.
"Thank you." Paityn smiled.
~~~
Hank and Paityn walked over to the square seeing Gracie lining up shell necklaces with a basket on a blanket.
"Nice necklaces. How much?" Paityn asked. She looked at them a little concerned.
"I'm not selling them. They're donation only. You can give me whatever you want and take whatever you want." She said.
"Okay, so you know we're police. Look, we're not looking for a business license or anything here." Paityn said.
"We just need a little help. Is your name Gracie?" Hank said. Gracie nodded looking at them confused. Paityn pulled out a picture.
"All right this is Steven Bamford. You recognize him?" Paityn asked. She gave a look to them that signified she knew him. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but we found Steven's body," Paityn said.
"Steven's dead?" She asked them. She covered her mouth as her eyes watered. "Oh my god. I can't believe this." She whimpered. "Are you sure?"
"We're sure. Sorry." Hank said sympathetically.
"What are you doing?" Gracie's brother said coming over to protect her.
"Slow down," Hank said showing his badge. "We're just asking a few questions."
"Why?" He asked.
"Who are you?" Paityn asked.
"Look, she didn't do anything alright?" He said.
"That's not the question we asked," Hank said.
"He's my brother. Steven's dead. They just told me." Gracie said.
"What?" He asked shocked.
"How did he die?" Gracie asked.
"He drowned," Paityn said.
"Any idea how he got into the river above Triple falls?" Hank asked. They shook their heads.
"The last thing we knew he got a job," Gracie said.
"What kind of job?" Paityn asked. She wanted Nick to be here. Paityn wasn't the best at interrogation.
"He was doing like ranch work. They were picking him up or something." Gracie's brother said.
"When was that?" Hank asked.
"Four, five weeks ago," Gracie said.
"Do you know where they picked him up or who picked him up?" Paityn asked. They shook their heads yet again.
"When was the last time you saw him?" Hank asked.
"After we took him to the clinic," Gracie said.
"The free clinic of 15th?" Hank asked.
"Yeah." The brother said. Paityn nodded.
"Was he involved in any groups or gangs?" Hank asked.
"No. Not him." The brother said. Paityn was beginning to slowly get things pieced together.
"Being around more than 3 people made him uncomfortable," Gracie said.
"Well thank you," Paityn said. They were going to leave but Paityn saw Gracie's tears and she pulled $40 out of her pocket and tossed it into the basket and kneeled."You know what? I'll keep this." Paityn smiled gently taking a necklace. Hank and Paityn began walking away and Hank chuckled.
"Softie. Just like your brother." Hank said.
"Well, at least I'm more badass." Paityn joked as Hank scoffed.
~~~
Paityn and Hank walked into the free clinic. Paityn went to the desk flashing her badge.
"Hey. Who gets to talk to the police here?" She asked.
"That would be our office manager, Tom Daniels. Let me see if he's available." The receptionist said. She picked up the phone as Paityn leaned on the table. "Tom? Two police officers are here to speak with you. Uh-huh. Okay." She said and she hung up. "He's thrilled. Through the door, I'll buzz you in." She said and the door buzzed. Hank and Paityn went through waiting for him. He came out eating a sandwich.
"Sorry. Gotta eat when you can around here. I'm the office manager Tom Daniels." He said about to shake Paityn's hand when he quickly wiped his hand off and then shook it making Paityn laugh a bit. "Sorry again. What's up?" He asked.
"I'm detective Griffin. This is detective Burkhardt. We'd like to ask you a couple questions about a patient that was treated here a few weeks ago.
"Absolutely." He said.
"His name was Steven Bamford," Paityn said as she pulled out a picture of him. She handed it to him and he looked at it for a moment. He hummed.
"He looks familiar. If he's on the streets I'm sure he's been treated here at some point. I can check the records." He said.
~~~
Paityn leaned on the wall as Tom typed on his computer for his records. All she wanted to do was call Nick and yell at him because this case was beginning to stress her out. It was quite difficult.
"Yeah looks like we treated him on the 17th for a spider bite. What'd he do?" He asked.
"He got killed," Paityn said. He looked at her a bit confused.
"Oh. That's, uh, not good. I'm sorry. Can I ask what happened?" He asked.
"We're still in the middle of the investigation. Who treated him when he came in?" Hank asked.
"That would be Dr. Levine. She's the head of the clinic." Tom said.
"Well, we'd love to talk to her," Paityn said.
"Well, she's seeing a patient right now," Tom said.
"This won't take long. We need to establish his medical condition when he came in for his treatment." Hank said.
"No, sure, I understand. I'll print out the file for her." He said as he began to print it for them. Paityn followed them to the room opening the door just as someone was walking out.
"Sorry to bother you, Dr. Levine, but these detectives have some questions about a patient you treated," Tom said handing the doctor the papers. "I'm gonna go finish my lunch." He said and he ran out.
"How can I help?" She asked them.
"We found Steven Bamford's body," Paityn said.
"Oh, what a shame. Please don't tell me he O.D.ed." She said looking at them.
"No, he drowned actually," Hank said.
"Anything you can tell us about him?" Paityn asked. "Medical conditions he might have had?"
"Well, I don't get to spend much quality time with my patients. Looks like I treated him for a spider bite. It says here I did a cursory exam. He seemed to be pretty healthy for someone who was living on the streets. Gave him some antibiotics and told him to check back. He never did." She said.
"Did he say anything about being offered a job?" Hank asked.
"Not to me. I'm really sorry. I wish I could tell you more." She said.
"Dr. Levine." A nurse said coming up from behind them.
"I have a lot of patients," Levine said.
"Thank you for your time," Paityn said. They began to walk out of the room. Paityn was about to call Nick when her phone began ringing and she answered quickly. "Burkhardt. Motor vehicle accident? Why do you need us?" Paityn asked.
~~~
They got to the crime scene and Paityn got out walking over to a cooler full of blood and organs. She winced looking at it.
"That looks like a human heart to me, and that one looks like a liver," Hank said.
"Yeah. Gross." Paityn said.
"With everything we see, this is gross?" Hank asked.
"Yep." Paityn sighed standing up. "That's a lot of blood." She said.
"That's not a medical vehicle," Hank said.
"So now the question is, why is it transporting human organs and blood?" Paityn said turning to look at the man who was being taken out of the car. She watched as he was set down and his face shifted to one that looked almost like a goblin. Paityn felt dread course through her as she realized that this would involve stuff she didn't know too much about.
"We're not gonna get much out of him. We need his phone." Hank said making Paityn jump.
"Yeah. Got it." She said. Hank looked at her concerned.
"Pait are you alright? You've been acting weird all day." Hank said.
"I'm fine." Paityn lied and she managed to get gloves on grabbing the phone. "Let's go." She said.
~~~
Paityn was at her desk waiting on Wu. Hank was watching Paityn and he stood up.
"Hey, Pait. I'm going to go check in with the captain and report our findings." He said. Paityn nodded and Hank knocked on the door.
"Come in," Sean said. Hank walked in shutting the door. "Hank. What can I do for you?" He asked.
"I'm just checking, do you know if something's wrong with Paityn? Did she tell you anything?" He asked Sean. Sean glanced over to her.
"No, not recently. What's going on?"
"She's distant. Distracted. She's easily agitated. She's not herself." Hank said. Sean looked over at Paityn watching her for a moment.
"I'll check in with her later. Keep a watch on her." Sean said. Sean's heart sped up. He didn't like hearing that Paityn wasn't doing well. Hank walked out of the office back to the desk. Paityn glanced up at him.
"What did the captain think?" She asked.
"He thinks we may finally have something in this case. Have you tried to contact Nick?" Hank asked. She lifted her phone showing 4 calls unanswered. "Damn. Well. I may have info on our driver. His name is Andrew Probasco, born in 1932. and get this...Died in 2005." Hank said.
"So he died again today?" Paityn asked.
"Apparently," Hank said.
"Fake license?" She asked sighing putting her pencil down and leaning back putting her hands on her head. Hank took note and saw the captain looking at her noticing it as well.
"Looks like. Ironically, he was an organ donor." Hank said.
"What about plates?" She asked.
"Stolen. Registered to a smart car in Tillamook." Hank said. Paityn lifted a few cards.
"Well. I've got a few expired lottery tickets, a get one-free-pizza at Gianni's, and a credit card in the name of Hallie Calder." She said.
"He didn't look like a Hallie to me," Hank said trying to make her smile. Paityn sighed putting them down and Hank looked over to Sean watching him glance at her and Hank could see the worry evident in his eyes.
"What do you got for fingerprints?"
"Ah funny you should ask. Got a match on his prints to half a dozen crimes all over the state, but no I.D. He was an unknown. Never been caught." Hank said. Hank saw different emotions flood Paityn's eyes as her hand clenched.
"So we got nothing," Paityn said. Wu came walking over.
"Are we depressed?" He asked. Hank glanced at Paityn and Paityn took a deep breath.
"Were you able to get any info off the driver's cell phone?" She asked.
"Yes...and no." He said.
"Can you just give us the yes?" Hank asked.
"No. Obviously a burner, but we were still able to pull the S.E.N. off the sim card. Of course, the service provider will need a warrant before they release the records, and that would be up to you." Wu said.
"That's all you got?" She asked Wu.
"That's all I got," Wu said walking away. Paityn closed her eyes for a moment holding her breath suddenly trying to hold back tears and Hank took note of this and went to stand up.
"No. No, I'll be fine. Let's just get this over with." She said. Hank hesitated seeing how Paityn was severely stressed by this case. Hank looked over to Sean watching him fidget his pen getting antsy. Hank slowly sat back down.
"We got a bunch of blood being illegally transported and a dead kid missing seven pints," Hank said quietly trying not to upset her further.
"We should check to see if there's a connection between the two," Paityn said and a few stray tears fell down her face. She quickly wiped them and Hank gently put his hand on her shoulder.
"You need to take some time off. You're not okay right now." He said.
"I'm fine. I'm just stressed. I'm okay. Hank please." She said. Hank looked at her unsure.
"When we get the DNA results back from the samples taken at the accident, let's see if we can get a match to Steven," Hank said. Paityn nodded.
"Sounds like a good idea. Let's do it." Paityn said.
"You know. I've been at this job a while, but it seems like this town is just getting weirder." Hank said.
"I know the feeling." Paityn sighed.
~~~
Paityn got home later that day and she fed Lyra and she pulled her phone out. She looked at the number and as she was about to call it her phone began ringing. She saw Nick's name and she answered.
"Where the hell have you been?!" She yelled.
"I'm sorry we had a few things to take care of out of town. Hank told me that you were having some issues." He said.
"Yeah. My issue is the fact that my brother is who knows where and he doesn't answer my calls anymore!" Paityn yelled. She was furious at the moment. All her stress was accumulating into one.
"Paityn. Breathe. Breathe. It's alright. I'm coming back tomorrow morning." He said. Paityn clutched the phone with a death grip. Tears flew down her face and she looked at Lyra who was rubbing against her leg. Paityn sat down on the stairs. She slowly took a few deep breaths trying to calm down. "Pait. It'll be alright. I promise." He said. Paityn nodded and she hummed at the same time so he knew she was nodding. It went silent for a bit and she took a deep breath.
"I'm alright. I'm okay." She said quietly. She heard silence and she looked at her phone seeing he hung up. She set the phone down on the stairs and she curled into a ball. She felt tears fall down her face as she buried her head in her knees. She wrapped her arms around her knees and then grabbing onto the opposite arm and digging her nails into her arms.
She jumped as she heard knocking on the door and she whimpered out a quiet, 'Go away.'
"Paityn. It's me." She heard Nick say. She let go of her arms and she stood up going to the door opening it. She saw Nick with a bag of flowers and he set them down and as soon as he did Paityn wrapped her arms around him tightly burying her head in his shoulder. His arms wrapped back around as he rubbed her back. "I'm here. I'm here. Breathe Paityn. Breathe." Nick said quietly. She broke down into his shoulder while attempting to hold back everything and failing.
When Paityn calmed down mostly Nick just held her in his arms waiting. He wouldn't let go of her until she did. When she did move back she wiped her face and she whimpered a thank you. Nick gently kissed her head.
"I love you, sis. I'll always be here for you. Even if it may seem like I'm not." He said. She nodded taking a shaky breath.
"The trailer. We need to get to the trailer. I saw a thing earlier today. I, I need to know what it is." Paityn said. Nick looked at his car and then back to her.
"Let's go." He said.
~~~
"Geiers have an innate ability to move through trees, staying above their victims who walk beneath them, unaware." Paityn read and she turned the page. "Geiers are the vilest of all. They harvest human organs while the victims are still alive, seeming to take pleasure in the savage pain they cause. Carnage on the front lines has provided them with a seemingly endless supply of viscera for their terrible trade." Paityn finished and Nick started to call someone.
"Hey. What are you doing for dinner?" Nick asked.
"That better not be Monroe," Paityn said. Nick gave her a reassuring look. "Nick! Leave the poor guy alone!"
"Let's go. We're going over." Nick said.
"Nope. Not on my watch. I'm going home I don't want to watch Monroe suffer." She said and she stood up.
"How are you going to get home? I drove you." Nick smirked.
"I'll walk if that's what I have to do." She said walking outside. She began walking down the sidewalk outside the area and she sighed. Nick honked suddenly and Paityn paused as he drove beside her.
"I'll drive you home." He said. She groaned in annoyance and she got in the car with him.
~~~
"Nick Burkhardt! You better drive me home right now!" Paityn said with a warning tone. Nick laughed as he parked outside Monroe's house.
"We need to talk to him." He said.
"No, we most certainly do not! Nick!" She said as he got out and she cursed under her breath multiple times before following him.
~~~
"Now there was a heart, kidney, liver, gallbladders, and a lot of blood being transported when he got hit. I wasn't there but Paityn told me everything," Nick said. Paityn looked at her plate already losing her appetite remembering what she saw. Monroe took notice giving her a small confused look. She gave him a small smile of reassurance. "The only thing Paityn and I really know, is that he was a Geier." Nick took a bite of his food.
"What's my favorite color?" Monroe asked them. Paityn tensed and Nick looked at him confused.
"What?" Nick asked confused.
"You know you never ask me about anything else. Like, sports or music or who the hottest bond babe was. You know, normal conversation?" Monroe said. "Just saying. It would be nice to switch it up once in a while you know?"
"Well. What's your favorite color?" Nick asked.
"You don't mean that," Paityn said looking at him leaning back in the chair. Her arms crossed over her chest. Monroe looked at her with a small smile.
"No really, I want to know," Nick said. Paityn rolled her eyes while Monroe paused.
"Red." He said looking guilty. Paityn gave Monroe a gentle smile.
"I feel so much closer to you now," Nick said and Paityn playfully hit his arm.
"Fine. Yeah. If there were organs involved, then most likely it was a Geier deal." Monroe said.
"What do you mean deal?" Nick asked.
"Geiers are like herbalists you know? Eastern-medicine types. You know how some humans use exotic animal parts, like bear gallbladders and Rhino horns for, li, you know, medicinal remedies and aphrodisiacs and stuff? Which is ridiculous, because it has no effect whatsoever. Here's the thing. Human parts for creature...enhancement? That actually works great." Monroe said taking another bite.
"You're serious?" Nick asked.
"I mean I'm not surprised, Nick. Think about it. If we think animals like Rhinos and Bears are exotic to us, just think about us compared to other...uh..." Paityn started not knowing how to define them.
"Wesen," Monroe said and Paityn nodded thanking him.
"So you're telling me that Geiers deal in human organs?" Nick asked shocked.
"Well...okay. This might be a little awkward, but for example, you probably didn't know that your testicles I mean, not your testicles specifically, but that part of the human male anatomy has a kind of viagra-like effect on certain species." Monroe said. Paityn was trying to hold back her laughter as Nick gave Monroe the 'what the fuck?' look. "Not that I ever had a need to...I mean everything works great." Monroe said.
"Oh, no. That wasn't awkward at all." Nick said pushing his plate away. Monroe scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Okay. So where would someone like you get something like that?" Nick asked. Monroe hesitated.
"Um...There's a place that I've, I've heard of. Not that I've ever, you know, been there...or anything." Monroe said putting more beans in his mouth.
"Care to bring us? As much as I'm against this." Paityn said turning to glare at Nick.
~~~
Monroe went into the spice shop and Paityn was in her jacket and had a scarf on. She breathed out through her mouth watching the cloud of smoke form and she smiled. Nick leaned against the wall waiting. Paityn's phone rang and she picked it up.
"Burkhardt." She said.
"Paityn. I'm at your house where are you?" She heard Sean ask. She smiled a bit.
"I'm out with Nick. We are hanging out with a few friends. Why are you at my house?" She asked.
"Hank told me about what was going on I wanted to make sure you were okay." He said. His voice held genuine concern. Paityn smiled a bit. She turned to Nick.
"Hey. I'm going to head home." She said.
"What? We're almost done Paityn." Nick said. Paityn sighed and blushed to know Sean was going to hear her.
"I've got a hot date waiting for me at home I prefer not to keep him waiting." She said. Nick chuckled.
"Oh gosh. Use protection!" He yelled. Paityn blushed bright red.
"Nick! Stop that!" She said and she shook her head putting her phone back to her ear. "You heard nothing." Sean laughed a bit.
"Okay. I heard nothing." He said.
"Good. I'll be back home eventually. See you soon." She smiled and hung up beginning to run feeling the air run through her hair and she smiled like a dork as she did so.
Paityn missed this. The feeling of wind running through her hair. The sound of the wind as it blew past her. The feeling of cement pounding against her feet as she ran. She let out a small laugh. She panted as she ran. Abruptly she slowed when she began nearing a more public area. As she was walking someone ran into her shoulder. She looked at them. They were covered in a hood and she felt them glare at her even though she couldn't see it. The person quickly walked away and Paityn sighed.
~~~
Paityn got home seeing Sean in his trenchcoat sitting on her stairs. She went up to him and he stood up.
"Hey. I made it." Paityn smiled. He gently cupped her cheek and leaned down gently kissing her and she smiled into the kiss while kissing him back and wrapping her arms around his neck.
"I'm glad." He said. She smiled a bit and she let go of him going to her door and opening it so they could go inside out of the cold. When Sean walked in she shut her door and she took her scarf off, setting it on her counter carefully. Sean gently grabbed her arm and he brought her over to her couch. She sat down while Sean kneeled in front of her.
"Sean? Are you alright?" She asked.
"No. I want to know if you're alright." He said. She looked at him confused for a moment before remembering that Hank told him how she had been acting.
"I'm alright. I was just really stressed earlier." She said and Sean cupped her face again. Paityn looked him in the eyes and Sean did the same back. They had a staring contest for a while until Sean broke the silence.
"Are you sure? Your eyes aren't as bright as they normally are." He said. She blushed a small bit and she gave a small smile.
"I'm okay I promise." She said. She gently cupped his face and she kissed him gently trying to show him that she was alright. He gently moved her back so she was leaning against the couch as he deepened the kiss. That kiss lead them to a long night that ended up in bed.
~~~
Paityn woke up the next morning in bed next to Sean. She smiled a bit as she sat up slowly grabbing her clothes. She gently shook Sean a bit after she was dressed.
"Hey. Sean. Time to wake up." She smiled gently. She leaned down kissing his head and he opened his eyes a bit.
"Morning." He murmured. She smiled a bit.
"Come on. I'll take us out to breakfast." She smiled a bit. She went downstairs feeding Lyra and she waited for Sean to come down. He came down in his tux from before and she smiled. "Ready to go?" She asked.
"We'll drive separate. That way it'll cause less suspicion." Sean said. Paityn went over to him pecking him gently and he smiled looking at her. "I'll see you soon," he said and she smiled watching him leave. She grabbed her keys and walked out to her car getting in carefully.
~~~
"We got a connection," Hank said. It had been a few hours since Paityn had gotten to work. Sean and Paityn were trying to keep it as calm as possible. Paityn was struggling a tidbit since it was her first last night. "This confirms that the DNA from some of the blood in the SUV matches the kid," Hank said. Nick looked at his folder.
"Well, that would explain the holes he had in his neck wouldn't it?" Paityn said. She smiled as she looked at her computer. "Someone was taking his blood."
"And selling it," Hank said.
"But none of the organs in the SUV match Steven or one another," Nick said.
"So we've got a lot of blood and a lot of human body parts from different people," Hank said.
"Someone has had their fun harvesting human organs, and not from a hospital," Paityn said. Nick brought his folder down.
"Check out this histology. No lesions, fat, cirrhosis, or pathology of any kind." Nick said.
"Perfect healthy specimens," Paityn said.
"They pulled Steven off the street. Maybe that's where they're getting their victims." Nick said.
"Homeless kids and runaways. Nobody would miss them." Hank said.
"Then we need to run a check, see if there are any missing street kids," Nick said.
"There probably isn't any missing person reports on them though." Paityn sighed.
"Then let's expand our search out of state," Hank said. Hank began typing on his computer when Nick's phone rang and Paityn watched him with a smile on her face.
"You know, I'm gonna go check the warrant on that phone you guys want," Nick said. Paityn knew he wasn't going to check it so she waved him off. Nick left and Hank looked at Paityn.
"What happened to you? You weren't like this yesterday." Hank said.
"I had a good night that's all," Paityn said. Hank analyzed her.
"Oh my god. Paityn you did not." Hank said.
"Did not what?" She asked. Hank leaned forward.
"Sleep. With. The. Captain." Hank whispered. Paityn blushed bright red and before she could say anything Hank ran his hands down his face. "Oh my god, Paityn. Oh my god." He said. Paityn couldn't say anything so she stayed silent as Hank burst out laughing. "You have no idea how long I have waited for you two to get the sexual tension out of you both." Hank laughed. Paityn turned redder than an apple at this point.
"Hank shut up." She murmured not wanting the whole office to know.
"I'm sorry I'm sorry." He laughed. Paityn continued working waiting for Nick to come back from 'checking on the warrant.'
~~~
After Nick came back when he was 'checking on the warrant' Paityn decided to go to the spice shop knowing that Nick messed it up. She walked in seeing the man nervous but attempting to hide it poorly.
"How are ya?" He asked. Paityn gave him a friendly smile.
"I'm doing alright. I came to help a bit." She said. He gave her a confused smile. She stayed a distance away just in case. "Don't be alarmed. I barely know anything about myself. I am a Grimm." She said. The man paled and backed against the wall and Paityn raised her arms in surrender.
"What are you doing here? You friends with that other Grimm?" He asked. Paityn nodded.
"He's my brother. I know he messed something up I just wanted to help clean it up. He probably gave you quite a scare." She said.
"How do I know I can trust you?" He said. He gave her a wary look.
"You don't, but I want to help." She said. It was silent for a while.
"He knocked down a cabinet downstairs. Be careful. There's glass." He said. Paityn gave him a small smile and walked downstairs finding a broom and beginning to carefully clean. Without even knowing it he came downstairs to see what she was doing. "How come you aren't like him? Like in the books?" He said making Paityn yelp and jump. She gave him a small smile.
"I don't know much about myself if I'm honest. My brother is a very determined cop. I, on the other hand, am not." She said. "Well. I'm determined but not like Nick is." He nodded still not fully understanding it. "I take a bit to get used too." She continued sweeping and helped pick up the bigger pieces while putting the cabinet back up. She saw the small amount of blood and she sighed. "That makes sense." She said. She continued sweeping not bothered too much.
~~~
Paityn put the broom back and she brushed her hands off. She went upstairs and she saw a girl talking to the man.
"Freddy. Are you sure?" Paityn heard the girl ask. The girl had black hair that was tied up in a messy bun. She was wearing a light purple t-shirt and some black capris that went just above her knees. She didn't have shoes which Paityn found weird.
"Yes. There's a Grimm downstairs in my basement. She asked if she could help clean." He said. Paityn walked in.
"Hey. I'm Paityn. Paityn Burkhardt." Paityn said walking over and the girl turned to her. She had two different color eyes. One was light purple the other was sky blue. Her eyes filled with fear and Paityn raised her arms again. "I won't hurt you. I was going to take my leave. I still have to get dinner." She said. They both were silent until Paityn's phone beeped making the girl jump and she yelped putting her arms out and she jumped over the counter as what looked like butterfly wings came out of her side and arms. She hid behind the counter by Freddy.
"Maybe you, you should go," Freddy said. Paityn looked confused but she nodded and gave a small smile.
"Will do. See ya around." Paityn said and she walked out of the spice shop seeing the street kids and thinking of Gracie and Hanson. She checked her phone seeing a text from Sean. He asked her how she was doing. Paityn chuckled a bit. "Cute." She smiled as she responded simply by saying 'I'm fine don't worry.'
Paityn began her walk home wanting to get her fresh air in. Within seconds she knew she was being followed. She kept walking and suddenly she stopped and turned around. She saw the girl from before following her. Paityn crossed her arms as the girl paled.
"Why are you following me?" Paityn asked. The girl started fidgetting her fingers.
"I, I just never have seen a, a Grimm." She said. Paityn smiled just a small bit.
"I'm Paityn." Paityn stuck her hand out. The girl looked at her hand and carefully shook her hand.
"Pearl." She said. Paityn gave a small smile. Paityn began walking with Pearl to learn more about her. She found out Pearl was a Mitternachtsfee. Which translated to Midnight Fairy. She was a butterfly and not very good at combat. Paityn didn't mind that. They got to Paityn's house and Paityn smiled gently.
"Wanna come inside? I can make us something to eat if you want?" Paityn suggested and Pearl gave her an unsure look. "I also have a cat named Lyra." She said. Pearl followed her inside and Paityn shut the door carefully after Pearl got in. Lyra went up to Pearl and sniffed her and Pearl let her sniff her hand before petting her. Paityn smiled gently and went to the fridge. "What sounds good?"
"Fruit salad?" Pearl suggested. Paityn looked at her confused. "I'm a vegetarian." Paityn nodded understanding.
"I have Apples, Bananas, Grapes, Kiwi, and some Peaches. How does that sound?" Paityn said. She turned around seeing Pearl smiling and Paityn laughed a bit taking them out and beginning to cut them carefully to put into a bowl and mix. Pearl stood behind her watching over her shoulder.
"Ooh! Can I have a piece of the apple? Please?" Pearl asked. Paityn smiled at her childish behavior but handed her a piece of the apple which she nibbled on content.
~~~
Paityn set the bowls of fruit out and with a fork. Pearl dug in being gentle and savoring each of the fruits. Paityn ate watching her in awe. She had never heard of nor seen anything like Pearl before. She didn't even know that there were butterfly Wesen.
"Are your wings always out?" Paityn asked. Pearl looked at her and shook her head.
"No. Just when I woge." She said. Paityn looked at her confused. "When I change." Pearl simplified. Paityn nodded getting it.
"All these terms. It's like high school again." Paityn laughed. "All these terms I gotta remember." Pearl laughed.
"I was homeschooled. My species is so rare that we can't risk going to a public school in case something happens or another Wesen tries to kill us. I mean, we only exist as females." She said. Paityn looked at her.
"Then how do...you know..." Paityn said. Pearl chuckled.
"Just like you do. Male and Female. Females in our Wesen have a dominant trait that almost always out rules the human gene. If I'm correct, I believe the chance of it being the same species as the female is around 95%. And 5% for a human to come out of it." Pearl stated. Paityn smiled.
"You know your stuff," Paityn said.
"I try." Pearl smiled and they both laughed a bit.
~~~
The next day Paityn went to work. She walked into the station seeing Nick, Wu, and Hank standing. She looked at them confused.
"What are you waiting for?" Paityn asked.
"You." Nick smiled. He lifted a flash drive. "Let's go show your boyfriend what we got," Nick said. Nick went and knocked on the door. Sean told them they could come in. They walked in and Nick handed him the drive which he plugged in.
"This is case evidence right?" Sean asked. The 4 of them nodded.
"Kevin Standish was reported missing from Cody, Wyoming, May last year. " Hank said.
"Apparently, he left Portland the same night Steven did in a white van," Nick said.
"So Steven turns up dead and Kevin is still missing?" Sean asked.
"That's what it looks like," Paityn said. Sean looked at her smiling just a small bit but turning professional in seconds.
"If someone's operating on these kids, where are they doing it?" Sean asked.
"We don't know, but we have information from the driver's phone," Nick said and the 4 of them turned to Wu.
"Well, believe it or not, there's only one number ever dialed from it, and dialed a lot. We triangulated it down to a radius of 1,000 feet. Northwest of town, pretty remote area. Closest address hit was 21343 Murtaugh Road." Wu said. Paityn saw Nick lift a notebook so she looked over his shoulder seeing the same address. She shrugged it off.
"If someone's dealing in stolen body parts, there's gonna be a lot of families who want answers," Sean said. Nick put the notebook down and they looked at Sean. "I'm going with you guys on this one," Sean said standing up. They began walking out and Sean walked right beside Paityn the entire way to his car. Paityn looked at Nick and Nick chuckled.
"Go with the captain. I'm sure he won't mind." Nick laughed. Paityn looked at Sean and went over to him. Sean smiled a bit and he even went to the passenger side opening the door for her making her laugh a bit.
"Thank you, kind sir." She said making her best British accent.
"You're very welcome madame." He said but he did a French accent. They both laughed a bit and Paityn got buckled in as Sean hopped in.
~~~
They were walking through a forest. Paityn was stepping carefully over twigs and leaves so she didn't trip and hurt herself again.
"I don't like the looks of this place," Hank said.
"Eh, It's not too bad. I've been in worse." Paityn said.
"Like what?" Hank asked.
"I mean, I was kidnapped and almost raped." She said. Hank nodded apologizing. Paityn chuckled a bit. "Don't apologize." She smiled but she went professional again as they neared the trailer. Nick knocked on it.
"Portland P.D." Nick said. No one answered so Nick knocked again. "We have a warrant, open up," Nick said. Suddenly the window next to them shatters and Paityn covers her head quickly trying to get out of the way when a gunshot is heard and it went silent. Paityn looked up seeing Sean aiming the gun and looking at her concerned. She sighed in relief and uncovered her head pulling her gun out and opening the door to go inside. Nick went in first followed by Hank and then Paityn.
Paityn looked around seeing Nick check the man for a pulse and then start walking to the end. He went to the door and opened it.
"I think we got some kind of greenhouse out here," Nick yelled back to them. Paityn went to walk forward by Hank when Sean grabbed her arm gently whispering.
"Are you okay?" He asked. She smiled a bit.
"I'm alright. Just gave me a scare." She said giving him a reassuring smile and she followed Hank in. When she got in she took one whiff and she covered her nose with her hand holding back any urge to throw up.
"What the hell?" Hank said. Paityn heard Sean cough behind her and she took a few deep breathes turning pale as she walked through.
"I'm gonna be sick," Paityn said. She knew everyone mentally agreed with the same thing.
"These are human organs. Hearts, Gallbladders, Kidneys." Sean said. "This is unbelievable." He said. Paityn nodded still pale. Paityn had to close her eyes trying to forget where she was. Sean was behind her and wrapped his arm around her waist to keep her calm.
"Why would you dry them out instead of selling them for transplant?" Wu asked. Paityn shivered and Sean whispered to Paityn quietly.
"You should wait outside. You don't look so good." He said. Paityn moved away without hesitation going outside and she uncovered her mouth and nose going to a bush and gagging. She threw up and gagged again throwing up for a good 2 minutes before her stomach calmed enough to let her breathe. The door opened behind her and she heard Nick leave quickly.
"Pait you coming?" Nick asked. Paityn looked at him and nodded standing up slowly and Nick went over to her. "Nevermind you need to rest. I'll take you home." He said.
"N-no. I'm fine. The smell got to me let's just go." Paityn said forcing Nick forward and Nick sighed as he had no choice but to get Paityn to the car waiting for Sean. Sean came out seconds later getting in with Paityn. Paityn leaned her head back and closed her eyes. Sean gently intertwined his hand with hers and she squeezed his hand.
"I'm here. Just breathe." He said. She nodded. "I don't want you going on like this. It isn't healthy." He said.
"I'll be alright. Just, don't bring me into a place like that again." Paityn said laughing a bit. She opened her eyes seeing his concerned look even though he wasn't looking at her. She brought his hand up to her mouth kissing his knuckles and she saw him relax. A small smile fell on his lips and Paityn just held his hand.
~~~
They parked at the clinic and Paityn got out, going in quickly with Hank and Nick. They walked up to a nurse who was locking up.
"We have a warrant to search the premises," Nick said. The nurse turned to look at them worried.
"There's nobody here. Everybody's gone home." The nurse said.
"Open the door or we'll break it down," Hank said. Paityn glared at the nurse and she nodded fumbling her keys very obviously grabbing the key and then fumbling some more. She turned to Nick and Paityn and her face changed into a Geier. Her face changed back and then she opened the door.
~~~
Paityn stormed around not finding anything. She watched Nick go into the room to talk to the nurse and shut the door. Paityn smirked knowing what he was doing. Grimm persuasion. Paityn waited for Nick to come out and when he did he motioned for the door making Paityn follow him over to the door.
"What do you got?" Paityn asked.
"Got the location. Hank!" Nick yelled. Hank came running over. "We got em."
~~~
Paityn, Nick, and Hank started running over to the white van. Paityn flashed her flashlight into the white van.
"Nothing. No one is in there." Paityn said. Nick and Hank nodded and began going around the van when a crunch was heard. Nick looked down seeing he had stepped on a puka shell. "Sneaky bastard," Paityn smirked. Nick shined a light on the ground seeing the shells light up and they led to a shed behind them.
They ran as quietly as possible to the shed area and then hey went to a window seeing Gracie about to be operated on. Suddenly guns started going off and Nick cursed under his breath.
"So much for the surprise," Nick said and they busted the door down. Paityn had her gun raised shooting. She ran in beside a gurney and she ran forward to get a better shot while hearing shots go off from everywhere. She ran in front of a gurney with someone on it shooting whoever was shooting at her.
"Paityn!" She heard Hank yell. She looked at him.
"Where's Nick?" She asked.
"Worry about yourself!" He yelled.
"I need to find Nick!" Paityn yelled and she heard a door shut. She ran over to the door without hesitation and she began to follow Nick seeing him get tackled down to the ground. Paityn ran over slamming her gun into the side of the woman's head so that way she fell off but the woman, who she now recognized as Dr. Levine, swiped her claws at her and Paityn jumped back. Nick managed to grab her arms and then throw her behind him.
Dr. Levine let out a screech and Paityn kicked her but Dr. Levine began to fall backward when Nick grabbed her arms and then when Dr. Levine scratched his arm making Nick pull back his hand since it was bleeding.
"Are you okay?" Paityn asked. Nick looked at her about to answer when he froze looking at her shoulder.
"Paityn. We need to get you medical attention." Nick said. Paityn looked at him confused when Hank ran over. Paityn suddenly winced in pain holding her shoulder in pain. Paityn had been shot in the shoulder trying to protect Hank and Nick.
"Shit," Paityn said. Blood ran through her fingers and Nick ran over as Paityn sank to her knees in pain. Hank sprinted over to them helping Paityn up.
"Medical isn't going to get here on time," Hank said.
"Call the captain," Nick said. Paityn began shaking in fear feeling the blood and Hank called Sean hearing him pick up quite fast.
"Paityn's wounded. We need you here now." Hank said. Paityn looked at Nick.
"Medical," Paityn said. Nick looked at her confused. "It's a medical area. If they use this place to take organs from people they have medical equipment. They have a towel somewhere." Paityn said. Hank ran inside as Nick held Paityn gently on the ground. Paityn looked at Nick and Nick had tears streaming down his face. Hank ran over with a towel and Paityn took it and quickly replaced her hand with the towel.
"Oh god. It's bad." Hank said. Paityn didn't realize he was still on the phone. Paityn looked at Hank.
"Where is he?" She asked.
"He's getting on the road here. Less than 5 minutes." Hank said. Paityn nodded and held her wound closing her eyes as a sharp pain shot through her shoulder. She bit her lip hard and Nick held her hand with his good hand letting her squeeze it as hard as she needed. Paityn kept her eyes shut tightly in pain until she heard the familiar sound of footsteps running to them. Sean took the place of Nick taking Paityn gently into his arms and Paityn opened her eyes.
"Hey, I'm here. I'm here." Sean said. Paityn looked at him with a pained look and she clutched his jacket in pain. Paramedics ran over to Paityn and managed to get her shoulder looked at. They were able to take the bullet out safely and then wrap it up with barely any problems. Paityn watched Sean as he paced as well as Nick who was barely focussing on making sure Gracie was okay. Paityn stood up with a bit of help from a paramedic since she was dizzy and weak from blood loss. Paityn grabbed Sean's arm and within seconds, Paityn was in Sean's arms as he was carrying her.
Paityn stayed close to him not wanting to let go. Her arms were wrapped around his neck and her head gently rested on his shoulder. Paityn listened to his racing heartbeat as she was in his arms. Eventually, he had to put her down and Paityn looked at him. Sean cupped her cheek gently and kissed her head.
"Don't. Do that. Again." Sean said. Paityn smiled a small bit.
"I won't try too." She said. Sean nodded.
"Let's get you home."
~~~
Sean walked into his office seeing the package on the table. He looked at it confused for a moment as he hung up his coat and he sat down. Paityn refused to go home so she was slowly making her way to his office from downstairs.
Sean sat down slowly untying the package and then taking the package off seeing the Reaper signal. He let out a soft growl and he slid the top off of the box. He then grabbed the fabric and carefully moved it out of the way exposing the ear. He remembered the man and how he cut off his ear for not obeying him. His phone rang and he picked it up slowly.
"Did you get my present?" He heard him asked.
"Where do I send a thank you note?" Sean asked.
"You made your point. Now we are making ours. The world is becoming more complicated." He said.
"Only for the simple-minded," Sean said. He felt his pulse accelerate and his hands begin sweating. He was clenching his teeth slightly trying to control himself.
"You are going to have to control these Grimms or get rid of them." He said.
"What I do and how I do it are none of your concern." Sean murmured.
"I speak for the Ferrat and they have a different opinion. Things are getting out of balance. A Grimm on his own is like a samurai without a master." He said.
"Well, these ones have a badge and a conscious," Sean said.
"That is your problem." He said.
"Next time...You might want to deliver your message in person," Sean said.
"Trust me. Next time, we won't only deliver it personally, we'll make sure to treat your girlfriend to some of our techniques too." They said. Right before they hung up Sean growled.
"Listen to me. You touch one piece of hair on her head, one-piece, I will cut off more than just your ear. Don't you dare touch her." Sean growled and they hung up. He heard knocking on the door suddenly and he looked up seeing Paityn. He gave her a fake small smile. "Come on in Paityn." Sean said as he quickly began putting away the 'gift'.
"Who sent you that?" She asked.
"I don't know. It's a surprise gift." Sean said.
"What was it?" She asked.
"Nothing too important. How's your shoulder?" He asked. Paityn put her arm on her shoulder.
"It's sore. Still hurting but it's not as bad as before." She said. Sean went over to her and he gently moved her sleeve and looked at the gauze around it.
"I'll see what I can do." He said and he had her sit down in the chair. He went around closing the blinds and locking his door and he grabbed a Med-Kit. He kneeled in front of her and he took off her shirt carefully. Paityn blushed a small bit but let him as he carefully took the layer of gauze on her shoulder and began unraveling it. Paityn watched as he focused but she also saw the anger still in his eyes. She put her hand on his hand making him stop and he looked at her confused.
She cupped his face with her good arm and he gave her a small smile. She leaned forward enough to kiss him and she felt Sean relax as she did so. Not entirely, but mostly. Sean looked at Paityn after they let go of the kiss and Sean's eyes were no longer filled with anger, but with awe and adoration. Paityn let go of his hand and Sean continued unraveling her shoulder. Paityn saw the wound when it was done and she winced.
"That doesn't look good," Paityn said.
"It's shallow. Bullet didn't hit anything important. It won't need stitches." He said. Paityn sighed in relief. Sean smiled a small bit and he re-wrapped her shoulder. Paityn put her shirt back on and she stood up with Sean helping her.
"If I may ask..." Paityn started. Sean looked down at her confused. "Who was the girl you were talking about on the phone?" Sean's entire body tensed up and Paityn took note.
"It was you." He said. Sean began to grab his stuff to take her home hoping she wouldn't ask questions. "Come on. Let me take you home." He said. He went to grab her arm but she jerked it back.
"I need answers. That conversation sounded less than friendly." Paityn said.
"I can't discuss that here. It's personal matters." He said.
"When personal matters involve my boyfriend and I can tell when they threaten you, it becomes my problem too," Paityn said.
"Paityn I need to take you home," Sean said. He unlocked the door opening it and Paityn followed him out determined to get some answers.
~~~
Paityn and Sean got to Paityn's house and they walked inside. Sean looked around as Lyra greeted him and Paityn went behind Sean closing the door and locking it.
"Now you're gonna tell me everything. What the hell is going on?" Paityn asked. Sean didn't say anything and Paityn was very tempted to slap him. "Sean Renard. You better sit your ass down and tell me what the hell is going on." She said. She grabbed his arm practically yanking him to the couch to sit down. When he was on the couch she stood in front of him barely an inch away and he looked at her as if analyzing her.
"I'm not allowed to tell you." He said.
"Bullshit. Tell me what the hell that conversation was about." She said. Sean hesitated, debating to keep his loyalty.
"It was about Nick and you." He said. Paityn nodded.
"I figured that much out. What about us?" She said. Sean looked at her.
"Someone in Europe wants you both dead," Sean said.
"What do you mean?" Paityn asked. Her voice was softer and more concerned now. Sean ran his hands through his hair contemplating. He was silent for a while not knowing what to say. "Sean. Talk to me." She said. She kneeled looking at him. Sean closed his eyes having no choice.
"They know you're both a Grimm." He said. Paityn looked at him shocked. She backed up a bit and Sean looked away as guilt filled him for breaking his loyalty.
"How...How..."Paityn said but she couldn't finish her sentence. Sean looked at her and stood up going over to her. Paityn was backed against the wall looking at Sean worried. Sean's eyes watered.
Sean looked at Paityn and he saw the confusion and slight fear in her eyes and he backed up going to the door. Paityn looked at Lyra and Lyra ran to the door blocking him. Sean tried to get out anyways but Paityn went over and grabbed his hand softly.
"Show me." She said. He looked at her and he shook his head. "Sean. Please?" She asked. He looked at her as she cupped his face gently and he closed his eyes and he tilted his head a bit making half of his lip turn into a zombie decayed look. His other eye turned red and had 'skin' going over where his eye was. Paityn looked at him as Sean's eyes watered not wanting her to find out like this. She ran her thumbs over his lips and over his eye watching him relax a small bit.
"I didn't want you to find out like this." He whispered. Paityn gently kissed his head and Sean wrapped his arms around her waist. He gently pulled her closer to him and they embraced for a long while. Sean looked at Paityn and she gave him a small smile. "I hate it." He said. Paityn looked at him confused which then turned to concern. "They're making me do things I don't always want to do," Sean said.
"What do you mean?" Paityn asked. Sean began realizing his own feelings and his eyes watered and spilled over. Paityn got extremely worried by this point and cupped his face again trying to wipe his tears off.
"I wasn't supposed to fall in love." He said. Paityn looked at him confused and Sean looked at her with pain in his eyes. "I wasn't supposed to want to be by your side, and protect you, and cherish you. I was supposed to have a job and leave. But I can't." Sean said. Paityn started thinking about it and she looked at him even more confused.
"I wasn't supposed to be with you, was I," Paityn said quietly. Sean shook his head.
"No." His voice got higher pitched as it cracked. "But I don't care anymore. I realize now, I can't follow the orders. I have to protect you." Sean said.
"Why?" Paityn said quietly. She was in disbelief. Sean looked at her and he cupped her face slamming his lips onto hers kissing her with everything he had in him. Paityn wrapped her arms around him kissing back and Sean moved back a bit.
"I love you." He whispered. Paityn looked at him seeing him looking directly at her. She felt her own tears cascade down her face and she gave him a smile.
"I love you too." She said and Sean looked at her shocked for a moment before regaining composure and kissing her again.
"You're not mad?" He asked.
"Oh I'm a bit upset, and I expect you to tell me everything. But you're staying the night. It's late and we're both tired." Paityn smiled. Sean nodded and picked her up making her squeak in surprise and he carried her upstairs and she just stayed close to him listening to the beating of his heart.
