Chapter 1 Pilot

Paityn was leaning carefully against the car with Hank, his partner, as he was in the jewelry store getting his girlfriend a ring. Hank ran to the other side of the car grabbing a camera and going over by her side.

"What are you doing?" She asked motioning to the camera.

"I gotta take some pictures. This is gonna be his last night when he's all young and innocent." He said turning it on and looking through the viewfinder. Right then Nick walked out tossing the ring up and then catching it. Hank quickly took a few pictures of his face and chuckled.

"What's that for?" He asked coming over to them.

"Gotta take some pictures now while you're young and innocent. Just like I told Paityn." He said elbowing her side making her giggle a bit and playfully hit his shoulder.

"Let's get back to the precinct," she said going to the other side of the car getting ready to open the back door. She wasn't paying much attention to what Hank and Nick were talking about until Hank sighed.

"Why can't you just look at her ass like the rest of us?" He shook his head and walked to the shotgun seat. She looked at Nick raising a brow and he shrugged. His direction was suddenly taken away as he looked at the girl. She looked right back and her face morphed. It was decayed and almost like a zombie. Her face turned back and turned to a look of worry as she sped up.

"Did you see that?" She asked Nick.

"I thought I was hallucinating." He said. They both got into the car and Hank looked at them both.

"You both alright?" He asked. Nick hummed while Paityn stayed silent. "Good, because we got a call."

~~~
They arrived at the scene and Paityn put on gloves without a second thought. A park ranger walked over to meet them. He motioned for them all to follow him and they did without a second thought.
"A hiker flagged me down. Came through the ravine, said he saw something pretty bad. I didn't know what he was talking about." He started.
"That was?" Paityn said mainly asking him to continue. They needed as much information as possible.
"Yeah. That was until he showed me this." He said motioning to the tree in front of them. Nick walked forward with her close behind. Beside the tree was a limb, which looked like an arm, and a headband. "The rest of her is off-trail."
He began walking them to a different section when Nick put his hands on his hips while looking at the ground. "How do you know it's a 'her'?" He asked. She looked at the hiker knowing he was going to have an obvious answer.
"Because of this." He said. He moved a fern out of the way showing a pink Nike shoe.
"Woman's Nike," Hank said sighing. She clicked her tongue kneeling examining it. The leg had clear signs like it was ripped off the person's body. She shivered to imagine it. She jumped when she heard Nick yell.
"Hey, we got a boot print! We're gonna need a cast over here!" He motioned for someone to come over before jogging over to them. Hank gently put his hand on her shoulder smiling softly making her stand up. She went over to the ranger.
"The DNA will tell us if this case is ours or if it's yours to deal with." She said giving the best convincing smile she could. He nodded and she turned around following Hank and Nick up the hill.
"This sounds like what happened a month ago at Munson Creek Falls," Nick said.
"Same deal?" She asked catching up beside him. She breathed a bit heavier due to being out of shape.
"Yep. Hiker and a bobcat." Hank said smirking. She shook her head a bit.
"This 'bobcat' isn't wearing boots." She said making quotation marks with her fingers when she said the word bobcat. Hank chuckled going by her side. Nick abruptly stopped.
"Do you hear that?" He asked. They all paused for a moment listening. She heard it first turning and walking toward where it was coming from. She ducked under a tape line and then over to a pink iPod.
"We have an iPod over here!" Nick yelled out. He kneeled beside her and he listened to the music for a second.
"What's that song?" Hank asked quietly. "Ah. Sweet dreams. Eurythmics. One of their better." He smiled proudly making her scoff. She looked up at him and smiled pointing at him and he did the same back as they broke into song.
"Sweet dreams are made of these! Who am I to disagree?" They sang together. Nick chuckled.
"I didn't know you two were singers." He said standing up.
"Jealous much?" She asked smirking.
"Not at the slightest." Nick shook his head.
~~~

They all walked into the precinct and began walking up the stairs. Hank turned left at the top to go bring the iPod to hopefully get some prints off of it and figure out who the victim was. Paityn and Nick walked into the office area and she looked over at a man in handcuffs being talked to by another officer.

He looked at her and his face changed into what looked like either a snake or a dragon. She ran right into Wu at that very moment making a loud yelp noise.

"Woah! You should've told me to wear my airbag today." He chuckled walking away. Nick and she looked at the man seeing he was back to normal. She looked at Nick confused and all he did was run his hands through his hair shaking his head.

~~~
"We've got 23 known predators within five square miles of the crime scene. None of them rise to the kind of violence we saw out there this morning." Nick said walking over. His face was slightly red as he threw the folder on the table.
"Just got hit with a missing person. University student went out jogging this morning." Hank started. Paityn looked at Nick.
"And they never came back." She smiled sadly. "Just starting her life out probably."
"Okay, Let's go," Nick said grabbing his jacket swinging it over his shoulders and putting it on. Paityn stood up getting ready to join them when Captain Renard walked out of his office.
"Detective Paityn Burkhardt." He said. She looked at him sighing and then at Nick.
"Just go. I'll be fine." She gave him a reassuring smile before he nodded and left with Hank. She walked to his office closing the door behind her. "You needed me sir?" she asked.
"Yes. I've been told you've been slacking a bit in the field. You're not as talkative. Not asking as many questions. Not helping find evidence." He said. He stood up and walked in front of his desk leaning on it with his palms on the table holding him on it just barely.
"My apologies captain. I'll try to do better." She said. She nodded a bit as if bowing to him but he sighed. She didn't want him to know about her messed up sleep the past few days. She had been having nightmares that only allowed her to sleep for a couple of hours. Not even 4 a night.
"I don't need better. I need you to be at your A-game. Now. Is there something you want to tell me?" He asked. He looked her dead in the eyes with a completely serious look. She shook her head.
"No, sir. I'm fine." She lied. He gave her a stern look for a moment before sighing and going back to his chair.
"Try and get some sleep. The amount of make-up you have under your eyes isn't gonna help." He said. He looked up from his paperwork and she paled a bit. She nodded walking out of the office. She walked to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. She cursed quietly as she looked at herself in the mirror.
Her hair was a mess and her eyes did show the bags under them despite the amount of make-up she had on. She covered her mouth gently biting the side of her hand to stop herself from crying. She took a few deep breaths and she let out a small whimper of fear. Knocking was heard on the door making her jump.
"Hey, are you done in there? The captain said you were in here." Nick said from outside. She took a deep breath moving her hand away from her mouth and she opened the door smiling.
"Yeah. Sorry about that." She said. Nick brought her to the office again and she felt a stray tear escape and she quickly wiped it off before anyone could see it.
"We found out who our victim was," Hank said. She looked at him tilting her head.
"What've we got?" She asked. Hank sighed. "Sylvie Oster." He said.
"That's the university student eh?" She asked. He nodded.
"Yeah. Unfortunately. We just hope it was fast." He said sighing sadly. "Man let's get the hell outta here."
"Yeah. It's been a long day." Nick said grabbing his jacket making the ring fall out.
"I'll say." She said and she grabbed the ring tossing it to Nick. "Big night." She smirked.
"Don't blow it, Romeo." Hank laughed. She smiled and then got interrupted by a yawn. "You doing alright Pait?" Hank asked.
"Yeah. Just a bit tired. I'll go home and sleep." She said getting her bag and going to the door.
"Paityn. I know you're not okay. Please, if even the captain is noticing there's a problem." He said getting closer. He gently put his hand on her shoulder. She shoved it off.
"Hank. I'm fine. Drop it." She said with a warning tone. Suddenly quite a few people were watching them. The captain noticed the commotion and walked out of his office confused.
"Paityn. Listen to me. You need to talk to some..." He started but she quickly cut him off.
"No Hank! I don't need to talk to anyone! You don't understand!" She screamed. The office paused and looked at her. She looked down at the ground and sighed. "Sorry. I'll be taking my leave now." Paityn began to walk outside and she grabbed her car keys when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around expecting it to be Hank.
"What happened back there?" Sean asked. She sighed.
"Sorry Captain. Emotional outburst. It won't happen again, I just need to go home to try and sleep." Paityn rubbed her eyes.
"I'll drive you." He stated.
"Wait, what? How am I going to get to work tomorrow?" Paityn asked.
"We'll figure it out. Come on." He motioned and Paityn sighed not being able to fight back. When she got into his car, she fell asleep almost instantly in the heat.
~~~

Paityn woke up quite quickly in the car jolting awake gasping and Sean quickly pulled over slamming on the breaks and he looked at her worried. She ran her hands through her hair and leaned forward a bit taking a few deep breaths.

"Is this what has been going on?" He asked her. She jumped forgetting he was there. She cursed under her breathe.

"Yeah. Yeah, this has been what's been going on." She said quietly.

"You could've told me." He said. She looked at him and then back out the window leaning her head back.

"You can't help me." She said. He just sighed beginning to drive again.

~~~
"We're here," He said as he pulled over to the side of her house. She unbuckled herself carefully and slowly. She grabbed the door about to open it and she felt Sean grab her arm carefully. "Paityn. I want you to rest. Go inside, eat if you have to but please. Rest." He gave her a pleading look.
"Thank you for the ride." She said. She opened the door and then shut it giving him a small smile as she walked into her house. Almost immediately as she walked in she felt everything catch up with her. She held her head tired as she collapsed to the ground passing out.
~~~

Paityn eventually woke up the next morning with a headache. She was still on the ground and she leaned up groaning in pain.

"Shit." She said as she pulled her phone out seeing her missed texts from Nick and around 5 missed calls from Sean probably to ask her why she was late to work. By 3 hours. She quickly got up not having time to eat or do anything properly. She quickly grabbed her keys and went outside, only to remember her car was at the station. "Well, crap." She was going to call Sean, but she was already late. She had no choice. She had to run.

~~~
She got there after around a full 45-minute run and she had to stop almost collapsing out of breath. Nick and Hank walked out then getting ready to go find her when Nick spotted Paityn. He ran over quickly.
"Where were you last night? I sent you like 30 texts?" He asked. She sunk to her knees not able to hold her weight as she tried to catch her breath. "Oh my god, what happened?" Hank kneeled beside her and looked at her worried.
"I left my car here. My phone is dead." She said. "And, I'm sorry Hank. For yelling at you." Hank waved her off with a small smile.
"We need to get you inside to AC," Hank said. He carefully took one of her arms wrapping it around his shoulders and Nick did the same to her other arm. They got her inside and brought her to a bench having her sit down. Sean quickly came over.
"What happened?" He asked. He seemed quite angry but also held concern. She lifted her phone.
"Phone died and my car was here. I didn't want to bother calling because I was already late." She said. He looked at Nick and Hank and they left quickly and Sean looked at Paityn.
"Why were you late? Don't you have an alarm by your bed?" Sean asked.
"I passed out like collapsed passed out." Paityn rubbed her head wincing in pain. He grabbed her hand moving it away and he pushed some of her hair out of her face to see where she hit the hardest.
"You need to get that checked out." He said. She nodded and Nick came back.
"Captain. Do you mind if I take Paityn out for a bit?" He asked. Sean shook his head.
"Go ahead." He said. He walked past Nick grabbing his arm before he could fully leave whispering so she couldn't hear. "Make sure she doesn't get hurt. She got a pretty hard hit to the head." All Nick could do was look at him confused as he left them and nod. He went over to Paityn.
"Let's go. We need to talk."
~~~

Paityn and Nick just started walking and he asked her to sit down on a bench. She did without hesitation.

"Okay. Aunt Marie came to visit me last night. Well, us." He said. She looked at him confused and tilted her head a bit. "She doesn't have much time left but she wanted to tell me something. Remember how we've both been seeing weird things?"

"Yeah? I don't understand what does this have to do with Aunt Marie?" She asked. He looked at her and sighed.

"Last night she was attacked as she was telling me. We're the last Grimm. We have to hunt down the bad people. The ones that shift." He said.

"Wait she was attacked?" She asked worriedly. Nick sighed.

"She's fine. I went to see her. She's conscious. I was hoping you would come and see her with me after work today." He said. She nodded.

~~~
They got back and Hank quickly came running to them.
"We got another missing person. Little girl. Let's go to interview the parents." He said.
Within a few minutes, they were all at the parent's house. The mom was crying trying to explain everything. Paityn was down below looking around for any sign that the girl was around. She looked at Nick and Hank as they walked down the stairs by her.
"What do we got?" She asked. They both sighed at the same time. "That can't be good."
~~~

"We don't know what we got here. Relative, ransom, or pedophile and the clock is ticking. We split into teams, section off the path she would have taken from school. It's a mile and a half from the school to the house. When she was last seen, she was wearing purple leggings and a red sweatshirt." Sean said. Paityn looked at the picture they were given and then saw Nick and Hank looking at each other.  "Make sure you have a copy of the photo and the map. You all know your section so let's get out there and find her."

"Captain?" Nick asked as he walked up to him. Sean looked at him confused for a moment.

"Yeah? What do you need?" He asked. Nick sighed.

"When the university student was attacked, she was wearing a red sweatshirt." Nick ran one of his hands through his hair.

"You mean the girl that was torn to pieces?" He asked. Nick nodded. "Let's just hope it's not the same guy."

~~~
They were walking along a path right by the forest they originally discovered Sylvie in. Paityn looked at it wearily.
"She was supposed to cross the street back there and then walk around the forest all the way there," Nick said. He motioned with his hand which way she was supposed to go.
"Her grandpa's house is on the other side of the forest right?" Hank asked. Paityn looked at the map.
"Yeah, looks like it." She said. She looked at the path they just so happened to come across at this very moment.
"Well, when I was a kid I would've just cut through the forest." He said. Nick sighed.
"Yeah, but her mother was very strict about the route," Nick said looking at the path as if analyzing it.
"Yeah. And kids do exactly what their parents tell them to do. I know you did Nicky." Paityn said following Hank into the woods.
"I told you to stop calling me that." He yelled back as he followed them. Eventually, they came across a fork in the road with three ways.
"I'll take the right. Hank, you take the left." Nick said.
"and I'll take the Middle," Paityn said already going down the path. She eventually went so far through the path she ended up in a big patch of grass that was almost taller than her. She sighed continuing through the grass the best she could. Abruptly the sound of a stick cracking was heard and she froze listening. She saw someone hiding and she quickly pulled her gun out aiming it at them. "Freeze!" She yelled.
The person took off running and she began chasing them as fast as she could move. She followed them into the forest and then by a bridge following him and then back through the woods.
"Stop and put your hands up!" She yelled. She shot at him trying to hit him and missed. She grabbed her radio and was about to call for back-up when the man abruptly stopped and his face morphed making her freeze in her tracks and he took that to his advantage managing to tackle her to the ground bruising multiple parts of her back.
She yelped in pain as she dropped the gun and the man quickly began choking her and she quickly grabbed a rock nearby and slammed it into the man's face making him let out a roar. She scooted back and tried to grab her gun when she felt something sharp stab into her leg and she let out a scream and used her free leg to kick him when he bit her. She grabbed her gun right as the man picked her up and threw her over the edge of the bridge into the stream making her go unconscious immediately.
~~~

Nick and Hank were back at the precinct after mistaking a different man for the kidnapper. Sean came out of his office.

"Where's Paityn?" He asked. Nick and Hank shared a worried look.

"We don't know. We split up. She must not have heard me call her back and she probably got lost in the woods." Hank said. Sean paled and he quickly called a meeting.

"We have a missing detective. Detective Paityn Burkhardt was in this forest searching around here." Sean said. He pointed to a section of the park and then to a grassy area. "For all, we know she got lost in this area. We are gonna split up and find her." He didn't let anyone know but his heart was racing faster than normal. As if he had just run a mile.

~~~
"Paityn!" Nick yelled out as he searched through the grass. The sun was setting and fast. Nick had to find her soon. He had tears welling in his eyes at the thought of his sister being out here all alone. Sean, Hank, and Juliet were by his side. Juliet volunteered. "Paityn where are you?!"
Hank gently put his hand on Nick's shoulder. Juliet gently grabbed his hand squeezing a bit as Nick began breathing a bit heavier and tears streamed down his face. Sean looked at Juliet and Hank.
"Stay here with him. Nick. I want you to go home. Get some rest. We will find her. I promise. I won't let anything happen to her." He said. Nick hiccuped and nodded as Hank put his hand on his back leading him away with Juliet.
Sean kept searching not giving up. He made it through the grass to the woods and he saw a footprint. Two of them to be exact. He kneeled to get a better look at them.
"We got footprints here!" He yelled. Both were running and fast. People joined beside him and Sean continued as they stayed by the footprints. He saw the first bridge crossing it looking down at the creek. Nothing. He sighed and continued. "Detective Burkhardt!" he yelled.
~~~

Paityn woke up in a dark room in a basement from the looks of it. She was tied up and she saw a girl on the bed. She recognized her immediately.

"Robin? Robin my name is Paityn. I'm going to help you." She said. Robin looked at her terrified. Paityn tried to get her arms free of the beam she was tied too but her arms were quite secure. Suddenly as she's trying to get free she felt someone come up in front of her. She looked seeing Robin crawling in between her and stay as close to her as possible shaking. Paityn looked at her sadly. "I got you. I promise."

~~~
Nick had gotten Monroe finally to help him find the blutbad responsible for taking Robin and Possibly Paityn.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" Nick asked.
"Definitely. I can smell him." Monroe said.
"You can smell him?" Nick asked.
"Oh. You have no idea." Monroe chuckled.
Eventually, they had made it to the second bridge. Monroe stopped his car getting out.
"We're here. But you need to put this on. That way he can't smell us." He said rubbing the stuff on Nick and Nick sighed a bit and started walking down the bridge. "Woah! what are you doing?" He asked Nick.
"I'm going to go to his house?" Nick asked looking at Monroe confused.
"Oh yeah. Why don't you just call him and tell him you're coming. This way." Monroe said going down to the creek and Nick sighed going with him and beginning to cross the creek with him.
The house was in sight when Monroe started shifting. "I can't guarantee what will happen if I get any closer. I might be on his side. I might be on yours. I might even go after the girl. I'm out good luck." He said running back. Nick quickly pulled out his phone calling Hank.
~~~

Paityn was sitting in the basement with Robin still between her legs terrified. The man came down the stairs and Paityn growled at him.

"You piece of crap! Let us go!" She yelled.

"Tut tut. I can't do that." He said. "Ah. Robin has taken a liking to you." He quickly took a piece of cloth he had and wrapped it around Paityn's mouth silencing her. Paityn made a growling noise with her throat and the man just laughed and moved her pant leg up seeing the wound. She winced looking at it.

He grabbed a towel putting some form of cleaning ointment on it and put it on the wound making Paityn scream in pain and Robin cower into her chest scared.

"That's what happens if you don't obey." He said. He pulled the cloth away and Paityn breathed heavily as her leg shook in pain and started bleeding again. "Look's pretty bad. I can't take care of it right now. Oh well." He said. Suddenly knocking was heard and his eyes turned red and he shook his head walking upstairs and shutting the door putting something above it.

He let someone in and they were right above them. She heard a familiar voice and she closed her eyes tightly hoping they would find her and Robin. She heard one of the three leave to a different room. She tried to make noise but the cloth in her mouth silenced her. She looked at Robin to see her looking at her terrified. Paityn gave her a small reassuring look. The other two in the room left the room above them.

After around only 15 minutes she heard a door shut and she closed her eyes in defeat. She began struggling against the ropes when she heard the door slam open upstairs. She heard something crash into the ground multiple times and then she saw water beginning to pool by her. She looked at it confused and then she heard complete silence. She froze for a moment hoping anything would happen. Suddenly the door opened and Nick came down.

"I found them!" he yelled running over. Paityn motioned to Robin meaning 'get her first, not me.' Nick understood and untied Robin quickly and she attached herself to him and Nick held her gently taking the gag out of Paityn's mouth.

"I'm okay. I'm okay. Robin, It's alright you're safe now." She said gently. Robin nodded and Nick looked at her leg.

"Oh my god, you're bleeding." He said. Hank came down running behind her and untying her hands and grabbing his radio.

"We need an ambulance here. Paityn's wounded." He said. He moved her leg and she yelped holding the area above it seeing the blood running down her leg and foot and onto the floor. "And badly." He said.

~~~
Within 40 minutes of being there, Captain Renard ran down the stairs practically skipping steps and he saw everything and he ran over. He almost refused to look away from Paityn.
"Is she okay?" He asked motioning to Robin but staring at Paityn.
"She's alright. Don't worry." Nick said. Sean nodded and got on his knees carefully moving Paityn's leg to see the wound and she quickly grabbed his hand stopping him feeling a sharp pain shoot through her leg.
"Don't. Please. It hurts." she said and Sean nodded carefully picking her up with one arm under her knees and the other under her back.
"I got you. Come on. Let's get you upstairs." He said and they all began going upstairs. Paityn clutched Sean's jacket tightly in pain as the cold night air hit her leg. "Just breathe. It's alright."
~~~

Paityn was in the hospital with stitches in her leg. Her calf was wrapped up pretty well and Robin was next to her in the bed waiting for her parents to come and pick her up. Paityn ran her hands through Robin's hair. After they had gotten to the hospital, Robin managed to get away from Nick and run to her and hasn't left her side. Paityn just held her gently and let her stay while they waited.

"What are you gonna do when your mom comes in?" Paityn asked. Robin looked at her.

"I'm gonna hug her. I'm gonna hug her tightly and I'm not gonna let go." She said nodding and Paityn laughed a bit. "Do you have a mom?" She asked. Paityn smiled sadly.

"I do. But my mom is far far away." Paityn said. Robin nodded and at that moment her mom ran in the room crying. Captain Renard was behind her with his hands crossed behind his back. Robin got up running over to her mother and hugging her tightly. Her mom broke down in tears as her arms wrapped around her daughter.

"You, you were the one who saved her?" She asked Paityn. Paityn smiled gently.

"No. I wasn't. You're looking for my brother Nick. Take care of her though. She is an amazing girl." Paityn said. Her mother nodded picking Robin up and leaving after thanking her a million times. Sean walked into the room.

"How are you feeling?" He asked. Paityn shrugged.

"Hurts like hellfire. But I'll be okay." She smiled a bit and she sat up wincing making Sean go to her side helping her sit up.

"Be careful. I don't want you hurt anymore." He said. She looked at him and she didn't realize how close she was to him. Less than a foot away. She stared into his grey eyes and he stared back. They were interrupted by Nick walking in.

"Oh. Were you two having a private conversation?" He asked. Paityn turned bright red as Sean backed up.

"No. I was just checking to make sure she was okay." He said before leaving. Nick gave him a confused look while he was leaving and then shrugged it off.

"What's going on between you and the captain?" He asked. Paityn looked at him through the glass as he walked away.

"Nothing's going on. He is just being a concerned captain." She said. Nick scoffed.

"Yeah, I'll believe that when I see it." He said.

~~~
"How is yours and Paityn's relationship coming along?" Catherine asked Sean as he got into the vehicle.
"It's going well. However, her brother is suspecting us both already. She seems clueless right now. But she won't be soon here. I'll make sure of it." Sean said. He turned to look at Catherine.
"Good. You do know the plan right?" She asked.
"Yes. I have to have an offspring with her and use them both." He said. When he said that he didn't expect his heart to start dropping almost like he was scared to do that. Like he was concerned or like something inside him didn't want to do that.
"Good. Now. On to step two." She said beginning to drive off.
(Hello! I have posted the first chapter in order to get advice and see what you guys think of Paityn Burkhardt so far.
