The rest of the week was uneventful, other than a growing sense of excitement for Sam's promise of 'fun'. By 9:45am Sunday morning at breakfast Y/N could hardly contain himself for the coming lesson.

"Seriously babe sit still. You're like a giant baby" Hermione chuckled at her boyfriend. He was currently flicking bits of toast at Hufflepuffs then looking away innocently when they turned around.

"I know it's you, Y/N. Don't make me tell my prefect/girlfriend!" Cedric yelled out with a laugh.

"You win this round Diggory" Y/N laughed back.

"Just go before you lose us house points, man-child" Hermione said with a smile before her face turned serious. She asked with sincerity: "Just please be careful"

"When am I not?" Y/N said as he smirked his cocky smirk, before he got the look from Hermione. One glance of that look and she could shut him down in an instant.

Y/N's cocky smirk disappeared as he replied:

"I will babe. I promise. Love you, see you when you get back."

"Love you too. Stay safe" Hermione smiled as they kissed goodbye before she turned back to Lavender who was chuckling. She quickly said to Hermione:

"You know he faced you-know-who, multiple times, and was tortured by him- all with a smile on his face. One look from you and all that macho bravado falls away. You're definitely the one, 'Mione."

"Well someone has to be, cos that handsome idiot won't worry about himself" Hermione giggled back.

Y/N knocked on the Ghoul Studies class door and was surprised to see Newt and Tina in there with Sam.

"Newt, Tina so great to see you both again" Y/N smiled before hugging them both and then shaking Sam's hand.

"You too honey, Hermione not with you?" Tina asked in her still strong New York accent.

"No. Sam promised me fun so I thought we may be in the field. I'd rather not put Hermione in harms way."

"But you don't mind being in harms way? You remind me of Newt so much" Tina chuckled. Newt went to open his mouth and speak but thought better of it. He instead spoke about the reason for their visit:

"We just stopped off to quickly give Sam some information on rumours of a... great find for your biome. We won't keep you. Have fun" Newt smiled.

"Thanks guys- Hermione should still be in the great hall at breakfast if you want to see her" Y/N said excitedly, wondering what their cryptic clue could be about.

"We will. We can see Rolf at the same time. You take care sweety" Tina smiled as they left the classroom.

"They are both so lovely" Sam said chuckling.

"They are, now where are we going Sam? What are we looking for?" Y/N replied excitedly.

"Go grab Na-Hath first, Y/N, then we will go via portkey" Sam said as he placed a bucket on the desk:

"We only have a two hour window once we go."

Y/N closed his eyes for a brief moment before opening them.

"He'll be here in a minute."

Thirty seconds later Na-Hath entered the classroom, squawking loudly, and perched on Y/N's shoulder. Y/N reached up and gently patted his avian companion.

"You can communicate over distances?" Sam asked in shock.

"Yeah. Our minds are sort of linking. It's uh- it's hard to explain" Y/N replied. Sam gasped and responded excitedly:

"Y/N, this is big. Really big. An ancient wizarding family line of, well, assassins really, they were able to do this throughout history. They all had a bird of some sort, who they bonded with and then linked minds with. It's a very, very old form of magic!"

Y/N chuckled, seeing Sam so excited and animated as the Hunter continued:

"There was the Eagle Bearer in Greece in about 300BC, and then there was Eivor, a Viking of the Raven clan. The clan settled in England in the 800s. The last recorded member, at least that I heard of, was a fifteenth century Italian named Ezio. If this is that then you must be a descendant of theirs."

Sam wracked his memory, trying to remember what he had read. Knowledge of the supposed descendants of the Sacred House of Isu from the First Age was like all knowledge of the First Age- fleeting, scarce and immensely valuable. He said to Y/N with a smile:

"Close your eyes, Y/N, and when you feel your minds connecting, go with it. Allow yourself to see what Na-Hath sees."

Y/N smiled again seeing his teacher this excited. Sam really loved research and history. He was very like Hermione in that way. Y/N nodded and felt his connection to Na-Hath growing. He whispered:

Are you comfortable with this Na-Hath?

Of course, father. We are bonded.

Then be my eyes Na-Hath. Let me see what you see.

Y/N saw a bright light in his mind'e eye before... he saw himself. He was doing it, looking through Na-Haths eyes.

This is incredible Na-Hath. I can see what you see.

I am happy to serve you father. You may call on my vision whenever needed. You are the Phoenix Bearer.

Y/N smiled and opened his eyes.

"It worked Sam. It worked. I saw myself through Na-Hath's eyes."

"That's amazing Y/N. I never imagined in my life I would see someone with a bird bond" Sam smiled.

Y/N chuckled at the expression, asking:

"How about we call it Phoenix Vision instead?"

"Right" Sam nodded as Na-Hath squawked in agreement. Sam asked:

"So Y/N, have you ever travelled by Portkey before?"

"Yeah. Jacob made me a few times. The first dozen I landed flat on my face but I've got the hang of it now."

"Yeah that tends to happen" Sam chuckled and added: "let's go."

The pair both took hold of the bucket as the room started spinning. They let go at the same time and Y/N started 'riding a bicycle' with his legs as Sam did they same. They landed in the middle of a frozen looking tundra.

"You weren't lying Y/N. Good landing."

"I never lie Sam, unless it's for opsec. Where are we?"

Y/N asked puzzled looked around at the foreign looking setting.

"We're in Siberia, Y/N. We are looking for a pair of creatures. Legendary creatures. Perhaps the last breeding pair of their kind in the world. Two Behemoths."

Y/N stopped in his tracks. His jaw dropped:

"Are you serious Sam?"

Sam nodded and chuckled, adding: "Well I did promise you fun."

"Fun? FUN? Sam this isn't just fun. This is Blackpool Tower, Cromer Pier and Zonko's all wrapped into one" Y/N exclaimed joyfully.

Sam smiled seeing his student and partner so excited. Sometimes it was hard to forget he was only 14, still a kid, despite his arguments to the contrary. Sam felt good taking on a paternal role with Y/N, the same way Thomas had for Sam after Jessica's death.

Sam pulled his thoughts away from his lost fiancée and back to the present.

"So can you use your Phoenix Vision and see if you can help us track them down, Y/N?"

Y/N nodded as Na-Hath flew from his shoulder high up in the air. He spoke quietly as he closed his eyes:

"Guide me Na-Hath. Be my eyes"

Y/N stood with his eyes closed for a few minutes with a peaceful expression on his face before slowly opening them and speaking in an excited tone:

"I see them, in a clearing about three miles west of here. Let's go!"

It took just over 20 minutes to run the distance required, and Y/N and Sam stopped behind a rock, hearing the deafening roars of the male and female Behemoths just in front of them.

"How, the hell are you so fast? And not out of breath?" Sam asked Y/N, Sam's hands resting on his knees as he struggled to catch his breath.

"I run five miles every morning Sam, part of my workout. Now listen- they are not gonna be welcoming. You stay here and stay hidden. I'll convince them to come with us."

Y/N began walking to the clearing before Sam grabbed his arm.

"Y/N no. No way. That's insane."

"Most Magic doesn't work on Legendary Creatures Sam. Are you a beast whisperer?"

Sam shook his head and Y/N continued:

"This is what I do l, Sammy. I need you to trust me here."

Sam sighed and replied:

"Fine. But don't get yourself killed. I am not delivering Hermione that news."

"Won't have to Sam. Have a little faith!" Y/N smirked before walking out to the middle of the clearing. The Behemoths both roared in anger, the male swiping his gigantic front paw that held five-six foot claws at Y/N.

Y/N instantly threw up his bastardised version of the protego shield up around him. He was still working the kinks out of the incantation but it could block physical objects as well as magic. The cursed claws bounced off the shield, causing the male to back up slowly in surprise as the female roared next to him. Y/N decided to whisper with them, for impact.

Legendary Behemoths, I am not a poacher. I am here to offer you safety... Sanctuary... A place in our Magical Creature Reserve where you can be safe, can raise the cubs you are carrying without fear for their safety.

The male roared loudly.

How do you know my mate is with cub? How do you speak with us? This is a new trick poacher, but I will end you like all the rest of them!

Y/N shook his head as he stood in front of the two immense creatures:

I am not lying. I am a Whisperer. I whisper to and protect Magical and Legendary Creatures. Creatures like you. Stand here with me, together, and we can go to a home of peace.

The male roared even louder, Sam covering his ears with his hands as a number of nearby small trees were ripped down from the shockwave. Y/N though stood unaffected, but his frustration grew.

I am not your enemy. I want nothing more than to secure the future of your species. You may be the last of your kind, so I can't allow you to refuse my offer of sanctuary. I ask you one more time- come with us, my partner and I...

Y/N unsheathed his Angel Blade.

... or you stand against me!

The male roared and charged. Sam watching from the side and felt himself have an anxiety attack.

"I'm giving you safety!" Y/N yelled.

As the creature reached Y/N with its head down and it's mouth open Y/N stepped abruptly to his right, slamming his Angel Blade into the side of the Behemoth's face.

The momentum of the Behemoth's massive size and strength meeting with the unbreakable and unyielding nature of an Angel blade sent the Behemoth flying passed Y/N. The Legendary Creature landed hard and rolled to a stop. Y/N apparated over instantly and held his Angel Blade to it's throat.

Come with us to safety, or stay here and die when the poachers find you. I don't want to hurt you.

He sheathed his blade to signify he was no threat.

I want to save you!

The male's eyes widened and the female roared in agreement, whispering to Y/N:

We will come.

Y/N stood back and smiled, stroking the males neck before the creature stood to tower over Y/N. He smiled and called out:

"Sam, come out. It's over. It's safe."

Sam came out from behind the rock and Na-Hath flew down and perched on Y/N's shoulder.

"Y/N... my god. I've never seen anything like that..."

Sam muttered in shock looking up at the size of the gigantic creature in front of him.

"It was... there aren't words..."

Y/N chuckled and thought aloud:

"Now how do we get them back to the Reserve?"

He was anxious to get the Legendary Creatures to safety as quickly as he could. Sam chuckled as he replied:

"I'm not sure if the portkey will work. Didn't actually think we would find them."

Y/N raised an eyebrow at his Professor:

"Never, ever, doubt the Beast Whisperer, Winchester. But I think I can try something."

"What are you doing Y/N?" Sam asked, unsure what Y/N could do to resolve the situation.

Y/N unsheathed his primary wand as he spoke:

"A spell I created for my Magical Theory class. Got the idea when I created the biome."

Y/N held his hands up, rotating one in a circle as he spoke:

Apertio tempus et locus

Sam was shocked to see a hole open up in front of him, circled by orange flames. On the other side was the dark creature Reserve.

"Y/N is that..."

"A portal" Y/N answered before looking around and narrowing his eyes.

"What is it?" Sam asked.

"There's someone...something else here. Take them, Sam. I don't know how long I can hold it. I've got to find this other... presence"

"No way Y/N" Sam tried to argue but Y/N wasn't having it:

"Look I've got the portkey in my pouch if all else fails but go quickly. Their future as a species depends on it."

Sam gave him a resigned look and ran through the giant portal, followed by the Behemoths. Y/N released the portal once they were through and fell to his knees, exhausted. Na-Hath asked worriedly from his shoulder.

Father, are you ok?

Yeah buddy. Just took it out of me. I have to look for someone, it might get hairy so stay high and out of the way so you don't get hurt, ok?

Na-Hath squawked:

Be careful Father, you know Mother worries about you.

I know she does Na-Hath, I know.

Y/N chuckled gently stroked the Phoenix's head as it cooed and then flew off.

Y/N had been tracking the presence he felt for about ten minutes before suddenly he was aware of someone being behind him. Something large. He heard it speak to itself.

You must be very brave or very stupid to come after me alone. Either way you die human.

Y/N instantly whispered back:

Why do you want to kill me, creature?

He heard a stutter in his head as the creature gasped:

How-wh- how do you speak to me?

Y/N turned around slowly and his eyes lit up. Standing behind/now in front of him was the biggest snow-white wolf he'd ever seen in his life

He whispered back quickly.

You're a Direwolf. I thought your kind extinct.

The great Direwolf howled.

There aren't many of us left. Again, how do you speak to me, human?

Y/N smiled at the beauty of the beast in front of him.

I'm a beast whisperer. I can speak to Magical Creatures like you. Protect them. Bond with them.

And you would like to bond with me?

Yes I would. Very much.

The wolf snarled.

Then prove you are worthy.

It charged, fangs bared and ready to take a chunk out of Y/N. Y/N quickly unsheathed his wand.

Impedimenta

The Direwolf slowed, slightly, still snapping it's jaws with enough force to crush Y/N's body with a single bite. Y/N leant back, avoiding the jaws before slamming his fist into the wolf's face. He did it again and again as the wolf yelped and fell to its side. Y/N leapt on it, wrapping his arms around its neck. He unsheathed his Angel Blade right next to the Direwolf's eye which widened.

I can kill anything with this blade, anything. But I don't want to hurt you. Yield. YIELD.

I yield.

The Direwolf answered, Y/N sheathed his blade and released the impediment jinx. He stood as the giant wolf did likewise, looking his new master in the eye before lowering his head in a bow.

You have bested me in combat, Master. I am now beholden to you. I am your steed and your servant.

Y/N smiled, his hands reaching out his hands and stroking the creature on both sides of his head.

How about we drop the master and service bit?

What should I call you?

As the Direwolf asked Na-Hath flew down and landed on Y/N's shoulder. Y/N smiled, looking the wolf in the eye as he whispered:

This is your brother Na-Hath. He calls me Father. You could too, if you want?

The Direwolf howled in approval as Y/N accio'd a set of stirrups out of his moke pouch. Technically they were hippogriff stirrups that were used for Buckbeak and Griff, but they worked here.

Y/N climbed on the back of his new Direwolf, his new baby:

I will call you Hati, the great wolf of the night sky in Viking legends.

I like that Father, where would you like to go?

Through this Y/N smiled as he created another portal, one to the grounds near the Forbidden Forest and Hagrid's Hut. The wolf ran through and howled as they arrived.

This is Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry Hati, we have a special Reserve for Magical Creatures. But I think you would be happier running wild in there, the Forbidden Forest would you not?

I would Father, but-

Direwolves can apparate right? I'll call you when I need you, Hati. Until then live free and wild and let me know if you need anything.

I....thank you. You are not like other men.

Y/N chuckled.

No I'm not. But first I'd like you to meet someone special.

Hermione was sat in the great hall studying with Harry. Lavender had taken Ron to the library to help him finish his Dittany scroll which was due tomorrow and which Ron hadn't started. Hermione looked at the clock.

4:30PM

Y/N had been gone for nearly six hours. Even if he had finished with Sam and gone to the Reserve afterwards he should've told her that he was back, it wasn't like him not to. She was worried but didn't want to admit it. Suddenly she was pulled from her thoughts as she heard him in her mind.

Hermione, come as quick as you can to the Astronomy tower courtyard, someone you need to meet.

"Harry come with me quickly" she said as she packed her belongings. Harry did the same and followed her.

Goyle noticed the two rush out and motioned to Draco who saw it and grinned. He, Crabb and Goyle got up and followed them.

Hermione and Harry arrived at the courtyard and looked around. Hermione was confused, Y/N told her to meet him there.

"Well well look at this. Scarhead sneaking off alone with L/N's girlfriend. What do you think L/N will do to him when he finds out boys?" Draco sneered arrogantly.

"I reckon he'll skin him alive" Goyle cackled.

"Oh go away you three buffoons!" Hermione snapped. Draco looked outraged but before he could speak a huge shadow passed over Hermione's and Harry's heads.

A giant wolf landed in between the two groups of students and growled ferociously at the three Slytherins. They screamed and ran and it was only then Harry realised the hooded figure on the wolf's back was Y/N.

"You like to make an entrance, babe" Hermione giggled as Y/N lowered his hood:

"I was getting worried."

Y/N smiled.

"Hermione my love, Harry, allow me to introduce you to Hati, my Direwolf. Hati, this is my mate Hermione and my beta, Harry. Both of these will need protecting."

The gigantic wolf howled as if in agreement.

"Forgive me Harry, but three's a crowd. Lady Hermione, would you care to join me on a ride this beautiful Sunday afternoon?" Y/N asked bowing at his giggling girlfriend.

"I would love to, good sir" she mock curtsied before Y/N offered his hand and he gently pulled her up behind him. She wrapped her arms around his waist.

"I missed you love" Hermione said sweetly as she smiled and nestled into Y/N's muscular back.

"I missed you too darling. YAR" Y/N replied with a smirk. Hati tore off at the 'yar', the two lovers racing off across the Hogwarts grounds on the back of a giant wolf. Just another day at Hogwarts Hermione thought to herself, smiling as she squeezed her boyfriend tight.
