50 Malleus Maleficarum

It had been a fairly quiet week of classes. Y/N and Hermione settled into a good routine- morning workout, classes, necessary time travel, library until dinner, dinner, library until curfew. They had only spent one night this week in their special place, they were trying to alleviate suspicion, mostly from Ron and Harry, when they weren't in their dorms.

Lavender of course knew all about what Hermione and Y/N got up to, and took extreme pleasure teasing Y/N when ever the opportunity presented itself, by far her most favourite rib was when Y/N did something such as handing her a book she needed she would say "thanks... big boy" in a sultry voice and wink at him.

Y/N's blushing only made her worse.

It was now Thursday dinner time, they were just finishing their meal before it was time to see Charlie.

Y/N was talking to Hermione when an iridescent ball of light flew suddenly into the Great Hall, stopping in front of Y/N.

Kid I need your help. Come to the usual place.

Sam's voice. The light disappeared after Sam stopped talking. Y/N leant over to Hermione and whispered in her ear:

"Can you go to Charlie and tell her I'll be there as soon as I can. I'll turn depending on how long this takes."

Hermione nodded and kissed her boyfriend goodbye. She hated him going on hunts but she knew he was good at it, he was getting marked for it and Merlin, he was saving lives.

Y/N stood and looked towards the teacher's table. Most had shocked looks on their faces that a patroni ball had appeared to a student. The only exception was Snape who stared at the boy. Y/N heard

Be safe

in his head. He smiled before looking at the Headmaster who nodded at him. Y/N nodded back before leaving the great hall, transfiguring his robes and apparating to the Leaky Cauldron.

Hermione didn't react to Y/N's leaving, instead finishing her dinner and standing up.

"You gonna be ok 'Mione?" Lav asked with concern.

"Yeah I'm just gonna let Charlie know Y/N is running late."

They hugged goodbye and Hermione walked to McGonagall's office. She knocked and entered as Charlie and McGonagall stood up from their seats and gave her a concerned look.

"Hermione is everything ok? Where's Y/N?" Charlie asked hugging the girl.

Hermione hugged her back and smiled. "Everything's Fine. Y/N just got, uh, requested to go on a hunt, but he said he will be back soon so I'd expect him any minute."

Charlie smiled but McGonagall looked angry.

"If you will both excuse me I need to speak to the headmaster."

She turned on her heel and stormed out of her office.

Y/N arrived at the Leaky Cauldron and Sam was stood at the bar waiting for him. They shook hands and Sam motioned for Y/N to follow him which he did. They walked out the pub through the muggle entrance to London as Sam spoke:

"We've got a case to investigate in Oxford. A woman died in a pool of her own blood after choking on her teeth. The husband said the door closed, locking him out while she died, but then opened after she had passed."

Y/N got in the front seat of the Impala and thought about what Sam said.

"Sounds like a curse, or a vengeful spirit maybe? Was she a witch?"

"No, a muggle. I got the tip off from a uh, person I know, try to get in there and find out what's going on before the Ministry turns up and just obliviates everyone."

The edginess in Sam's voice at the word person piqued Y/N's interest. He turned his head to look at his Professor/partner and asked:

"Who's this person, Sam?"

He noticed a distinct apprehension from Sam, which was strange, before he finally answered:

"Her name is Ruby. She's a... she's a Knight of Merlin."

Y/N nearly choked on his saliva. He roared:

"She's a fucking what? Why isn't she dead?"

Sam attempted to answer, replying:
"Look Y/N the thing is-"

But was promptly cut off:

"Sam. They're our enemy. They want us dead. We want them dead. The second you find one of the fucking infant torturers you cast the killing curse, you don't chat about the fucking weather!"

"We weren't chatting about the weather, Y/N. Look... she knows more about the inside of that organisation than we ever will. She's an inside agent. I'm telling you, she's trustworthy."

An awkward silence rose over the car. Y/N finally asked with a tone of annoyance:

"I don't like it, Sam. How are we going to investigate this case anyway? Legilimency?"

Sam shook his head.

"No, no magic unless we can help it. Don't want to register on any Ministry radars until we can finish the hunt and gtfo. Reach in the glovebox"

Y/N did and saw were two children's fold out police badges sitting in the small compartment. He picked them up with a furrowed brow.

"What the fuck?" Y/N asked as he examined them. "You can't be serious?"

Sam chuckled at Y/N's reaction.

"They're enchanted, Y/N. They'll show muggles whatever we say are on them. Transfigure yourself into a suit, we're going to be posing as MI5 agents investigating the death as a possible risk to national security."

Y/N nodded.

"Alright, but I'll have to adopt a glamour to any muggles close to me. I am still a 14 year old after all."

Sam smiled and chuckled: "No worries kiddo"

He noticed a look cross Y/N's face at his words. He quickly asked:

"Something wrong?"

Y/N sighed.

"Nah... I just hate being called a kid, mate. I'm a warrior, not a fucking child."

"Why didn't you say anything?" Sam asked saddened.

"I respect you, Sammy. I wasn't going to pick a fight over it, it's just the things I've done. The things I've seen. It shits me when people think I'm a kid."

Sam nodded.

"Yeah I get that Y/N, I do. But it's just habit because of your age. Nothing else. Hell I wouldn't ask for your help if you weren't seriously powerful and I wasn't 100% sure you could absolutely handle yourself out here. The last thing I'd do is drag some kid who couldn't handle themselves on a hunt."

Y/N smirked at Sam's words and looked out the window, replying quietly:

"Thanks Sam."

"No worries, Y/N" Sam replied with a smile as they got towards the edge of central London.

—~—

After a little over an hour of driving they had arrived in Oxford at the home of the murder victim, Janet Dutton, and were interviewing her husband, Paul.

"She was so scared. I couldn't help. I couldn't do anything to stop it. I've talked to the police, I've talked to the medical examiner and no one can explain it".

He spoke with frustration to Y/N who was in front of him taking notes.

"Well that's why they they put the call into us, Mr. Dutton" Y/N said as he tried giving Paul a reassuring smile.

"But MI5 that's national security right? You think this is a matter of national security?"

Y/N nodded.

"My partner and I investigate cases that fall... out of the ordinary, Mr. Dutton. In case they pose a threat to national security. I give you my word we will do our best to find answers."

Paul nodded gratefully. As Y/N was interviewing the mourning husband, Sam was investigating the bathroom. Y/N's voice could be heard as he closed the bathroom door.

"Mr. Dutton, did Janet have any enemies?"

"I'm sorry?"

"Anyone who had a reason to hurt her?"

"What are you saying?" Paul asked as he rose to his feet with a shocked expression on his face

"That someone poisoned her?"

"I'm saying we have to cover every base" Y/N replied.

"What kind of poison?"

Sam could heat the man's voice becoming more panicked, but Y/N was handling the situation well.

"We need to examine every possible scenario, Mr. Dutton, even if just to rule it out. Do you think a person could have done this?"

Sam listened as he searched the cupboard under the sink when he found something. A small purple pouch wrapped tightly. His breath hitched in his through as he lifted the small item.

"Shit" he muttered to himself. It was a hex bag.

"Anyone who would want to, Mr Dutton?" Y/N asked again.

"No. No. There's no one who would want to-"

Paul trailed off mid sentence and grew an expression suggesting he was either miles away or thinking intently hard. A look of realisation grew on his face he attempted to hide. Y/N asked impatiently:

"Mr. Dutton?"

"Uh, everyone loved Janet" Paul replied quietly.

Y/N knew when he was being lied to. He gave Paul a long, hard, intimidating and uncomfortable silent stare before eventually nodding and glancing to Sam, who emerged from the bathroom and motioned to Y/N with his head that it was time to leave.

Y/N gave Sam a knowing look and replied to Paul without missing a beat:

"Okay, thank you very much. I think we've got everything we need. We'll get out of your way now. We're both sorry for your loss."

Y/N turned and walked out. Sam nodded to Paul and followed Y/N out the door. An angered look grew on Paul's face.

The two hunters exited the house. As they walked to the car Y/N asked:

"I know when I'm being lied to. That guy seem evasive to you?"

Sam chuckled and replied:

"I don't know. I was under a sink. Pulling this out... We're dealing with Magic alright, it's a Hex Bag."

Sam handed the small parcel to Y/N who looked at it puzzled, whispering to himself:

"What the fuck?"

He hopped in the passenger seat and opened the hex bag, a look of disgust quickly growing on his face at the contents as he glared down, muttering:

"Gross"

Sam nodded.

"Yep. There are bird bones, the bloody teeth look like they're from a rabbit. I'd wager this cloth was probably cut from something Janet Dutton owned."

"So... what is this Sam? I've never come across needing... this... for magic before." Y/N asked puzzled. This seemed vaguely familiar, but he had read a lot of books over the years.

"We aren't dealing with normal magic, Y/N. This is Satanic magic, Satanists are Muggles who become witches or wizards by selling their souls off in exchange for fame and power. They can't cast spells like we do, but they can curse and hex people, mostly to kill them. It's dark, dark stuff."

"Great. So we're thinking Satanist?" Y/N sighed at it started to rain.

"Ugh Yeah" Sam nodded starting the car:
"And not some new-age Wiccan water douser, either. This is old-world Black Magic, Y/N."

As Sam began to drive Y/N grumbled to himself, gaining Sam's attention as he asked:

"What's wrong, Y/N?"

"I've read about Satanists, and I hate them" Y/N snapped. Sam chuckled as Y/N continued ranting:

"Spewing their bodily fluids everywhere. It's creepy. It's downright unsanitary!"

"Yeah well, someone definitely had it out for Janet Dutton" Sam replied.

"Yeah someone who snuck into that house and planted the bag. So what are we thinking? Looking for some Pendle bitch in the woods?" Y/N asked. Sam shook his head as he stopped at a red light.

"No it could be anyone. A neighbour, coworker, man, woman. They're human. They're probably like everyone else."

"Great. How we gonna find em?"

"This wasn't random. Someone in Janet Dutton's life had an ugly axe to grind. We find the motive-"

"We find the murderer" Y/N finished Sam's sentence.

"Yeah" Sam nodded, the car taking off from the traffic lights and towards their hotel.

—~—

It was a bright sunny September morning in Oxford, the drizzle from the previous evening having cleared overnight.

A woman was working in her garden with her husband, and she looked up, noticing her neighbour getting out of her car. She called out to her.

"Amanda!"

No reply was forthcoming.

"Hey Amanda!" The woman called again. This time her neighbour looked up from being miles away and half smiled, doing a terrible job of hiding her stressed demeanour.

"Oh Elizabeth, hi. Sorry I've got like a thousand things on my mind" Amanda replied in a tone suggesting she was in a hurry. Elizabeth wore a concerned expression.

"Are you ok, sweetie? You didn't come to book club last night."

Amanda stopped dead in her tracks, looking at her friend with a look of guilt and replying:

"Yeah sorry I was gonna call. I got busy you know. But I'm fine really. I am, thanks."

She waved and walked off leaving a very concerned Elizabeth behind her.

—~—

Amanda walked into her house, placing her shopping down before turning to her oven, the light of which had been left on. She opened the oven door to remove a plate of food, which was maggot and worm infested. It was weeks old.

—~—

It was nighttime and Paul Dutton was sitting in his car eating a burger. As he took a bite he switched the car radio on and a love song came on.

—~—

Amanda placed the maggoty plate of food on a homemade alter which sat on her coffee table. In the middle of the alter there was a crudely carved inverted pentagram. She proceeded to pick up a silver blade and pricked her finger, the blood dripping onto the plate as she chanted in Latin and placed a cheap watch in the middle of the food:

"Tenebris accire copias. This dinner was cooked for you, Paul Arthur Dutton."

She stabbed the dinner with the silver blade.

"Now you're going to eat it!"

—~—

Paul sat in his car chewing on his burger as the car radio suddenly started modulating strangely. He looked at it puzzled as 'I put a spell on you' started playing.

Paul flicked buttons on the radio face confused before he became acutely aware of a strange sensation in his mouth.

He pulled out a worm and panicked before beginning to choke. He panicked as he choked more and more.

Suddenly the Impala screeched to a halt next to his car, Y/N and Sam jumping out as Paul had managed to get out of his car and fall to his hands and knees, unable to breathe.

"Check the car" Y/N ordered as he got to Paul first and slapped him on the back trying to clear his airways. He pulled his wand and cast

Anapneo

The spell should have instantly cleared the man's throat but instead he continued to choke. At the same time Sam reached under the car's dashboard and found a poorly concealed hex bag.

"Sam?" Y/N asked in panic.

"Got it" Sam answered, throwing it to the ground and pulling out his wand:

Incendio

The hex bag burnt up as Paul could suddenly breathe again. The flames on the bag however were not red, but bright green.

—~—

Amanda jumped in shock, covering her mouth, as the alter suddenly burst into flames.

—~—

Y/N held Paul against the car with a hand on his chest holding the man in place as the last of the hex bag burnt up.

"You ok?" Y/N asked extremely firmly. Paul looked at him shocked, asking terrified:

"What the hell is happening to me?"

Y/N wasn't in the mood for subtlety as he roared:

"Someone murdered your wife. Now they're trying to kill you. That's what fucking happened!"

"Th-That's impossible... there's no way" Paul stuttered

Y/N grabbed him by the collar and shoved him harder against the car. Despite only being 14 he was much taller and stronger than the man. Sam observed but decided to see how this played out. On the job training after all.

"Look! If we hadn't been following you you'd be a doornail now. Stop lying and tell me who wants you dead!?!"

"Uh I don't"

"Come on think!" Y/N roared, gripping him even tighter.

"Uh-um-uh there's a woman" Paul gasped

"Ok a woman?"

"An affair. A mistake. She was unbalanced. She was blackmailing me. I put an end to it a week ago."

"What's her name?" Sam asked

"What could she have to do with what-?"

"PAUL!!! What is her name?" Y/N yelled, making the man flinch.

—~—

Amanda was looking through a binder of Satanic rites and rituals trying to figure out what had happened. Suddenly a wind howled through the room, frightening her and blowing out the candles she had lit. She looked around in fear before screaming, deep cuts appearing on her wrists. She grabbed them in pain before falling onto her coffee table, having bled out fairly quickly.

—~—

Sam and Y/N rushed to Amanda's address and cast alohomora on her front door. They entered, wands drawn, and slowly looked around. Y/N tapped his temple looking at Sam.

Not picking up any brain waves here.

Sam nodded as they passed an open doorway. There they found her, stretched out of the coffee table, lying in a massive pool of blood. Y/N switched the light on as Sam got a 'huh' look on his face.

"That's a curveball" Y/N said looking at Sam.

"Yeah" Sam nodded, trying to work out what was going on.

Y/N walked in the room, using the tip of his wand to turn over Amanda's forearm, seeing the three deep slices in it.

"Three per wrist, vertical. She wasn't messing around" Y/N said to his mentor.

"Three cuts is significant in Satanism, Y/N. It's a mockery of the trinity. Very dark."

"What Father, Son, Holy Spirit type deal?" Y/N asked.

Sam nodded. It was Y/N's turn to wear a huh expression. Sam knelt down covering his mouth over the stench of the maggot infested food as he looked at her spell board and binder.

"Looks like she was working some real heavyweight evil here."

"Yep" Y/N said looking around before jumping and yelling in rage. Sam chuckled at the jump scare.

"Bloody fucking hell!" Y/N raged. A dead rabbit hung from the ceiling, at eye level, and had been right in front of him when he turned round.

"Bloody Satanists! Seriously, man! Come on!" Y/N raged.

"Guess we know where she got the rabbit's teeth from."

"Paul knows how to pick'em it's like 'fatal attraction' again. Why's the rabbit always get screwed in the deal. Poor little guy" Y/N said sadly looking at the long deceased lagomorph.

"Here's what I don't get Y/N. If she was so bent on revenge, why do this?" Sam asked. He had theories of his own, but wanted his protégé to work through the case on his own. Y/N started spitballing.

"Well, she got Janet Dutton, thought she finished off Paul, decided to ventilate herself? Three is a prime number- accelerated power, Arithmancy, all that?"

"Maybe?" Sam said not convinced. Y/N looked around the room and added:

"This doesn't exactly look like a TV room of a bright and stable muggle, you know?"

"No..." Sam said looking under the table:

"... but then..."

He moved onto the other side leaning under again:

"...there's this!"

He pulled another hex bag and threw it to Y/N. Y/N caught it and looked down frustrated.

"Another hex bag? Come on!"

He opened it to see teeth, bones and what looked like pubic hair.

"Looks like we got a hit. A little Satanist on Satanist action" Sam sighed

Y/N walked to Amanda's phone before picking it up.

"Police"

The phone magically dialled the number for him.

"I'd like to report a dead body at 309 Mayfair circle. My name? Oh yeah its-"

He hung up the phone and looked at Sam.

"Why are Satanists ganking each other?"

"I don't know. But I think maybe we've got a coven on our hands"

—~—

Tammi and Renee were sitting in Renee's lounge room having a glass on wine and smiling at Renee's husband.

"I know I know I'm going" He smiled at the giggling ladies.

"I'm not fooled by your little book club by the way. I know what you ladies get up to when I'm gone. It's all dish and gossip."

Elizabeth walked in and up to the man, as he placed his jacket on. She smiled:

"Hi Ron."

"Oh hello, Elizabeth" he smiled before he turned back to his wife.

"When's the last time anyone actually brought a book?"

The two sitting ladies smiled and spoke at the same thing time. "Goodnight Ron"

He rolled his eyes and left saying "alright".

Elizabeth walked up to her two friends with a worried look.

"He doesn't know does he? You didn't tell him did you?"

Tammi looked at her and asked: "About Amanda?"

"Oh I think that's book club business don't you?" Renee smiled.

Tammi got a three candle candelabra with blood red candles and placed it on the table.

"Thank you Tammi" Renee smiled again.

Elizabeth continued:

"The police just took away her body and what, we're just going to pretend it didn't happen?"

Renee spoke again. "We loved Amanda"

"It's true" Tammi spoke.

Renee continued: "We know she was a little... unstable"

"Also true" Tammi agreed.

"And we have to face it. She probably killed Janet Dutton" Renee concluded.

"People don't spit out out their teeth all of a sudden" Tammi agreed.

"We have to stop" Elizabeth said to her shocked friends.

"We have to stop book club, it's gone too far!"

Renee stood and smiled:

"Elizabeth, just take a deep breath. Calm down. We can't stop."

"But people are dying-"

"Amanda killed herself, yes. And yes, she killed Janet. Awful, awful business of course but that's all over now. And think about what book club has gotten us? Your husband's promotion, that little trip to Hawaii that you won. And what about me? My home pottery business is finally taking off and you wanna just stop?" Renee smiled.

Tammi followed Renee's lead, smirking at Elizabeth and asking: "Do you want to stop?"

Elizabeth shook her head. Renee and Tammi both smiled, Renee adding:

"Okay. Now come on. We don't have much time. Ron gets back from his fantasy football in an hour."

The three ladies spread a pentacle cloth over the coffee table and pulled out a wooden carved alter imbued with satanic imagery. They placed a book on the small flat alter as they lit the blood candles and started chanting as they joined hands.

"Book of Shadows, we kneel before you. Let us serve your master as you serve us. Book of Shadows, we kneel before you. Let us serve your master you as you serve us."

—~—

The following morning Elizabeth was gardening again. The doubt was weighing on her mind. She had thought book club was just a bit of fun at the start, and was shocked when she started winning things, but now two of her friends were dead. What if this was all real?

She was so deep in thought she didn't notice the two men in suits approach until they were directly in front of her. She looked up stunned at the two handsome men standing there.

"You must have a green thumb" the taller man said with a smile.

"Excuse me?" Elizabeth replied, a little shocked.

"Getting these herbs to grow out of season like this. Quite impressive."

Elizabeth looked down at her herb garden again.

"I'm sorry I should have introduced myself." The taller one spoke again reaching into his pocket and pulling out a badge.

"I'm Agent Young, this is Agent Scott" He signalled to his younger looking partner who also pulled out a badge.

"MI5"

Elizabeth's face took a look of panic.

"Hey" The younger looking one, Agent Scott, said as he gave a warm smile. The taller one, Agent Young, started speaking again:

"We're following up on Amanda Burns' death. Going around the neighbourhood, talking to her neighbours."

"But didn't she... I mean she killed herself, right?" Elizabeth gasped.

"Maybe, maybe" Agent Young spoke.

"We heard you were friends with the deceased ma'am?" Agent Scott spoke with a warming smile. Elizabeth looked down.

"Yeah I guess so"

Agents Scott's eyes and voice hardened slightly.

"Do you have any idea about her practices?"

Elizabeth looked up, into Agent Scott's eyes and was extremely intimidated by what she saw. His brilliant green irises held an intensity she didn't feel safe staring into. She stammered back:

"I'm s-sorry. Wh-What kind of pr-practices?"

"See her house was littered with Satanic paraphernalia" Young spoke

"It was a regular Black Sabbath" Scott continued.

"No, bu-but she was in the Church of England."

The two looked slightly baffled before Scott spoke up again.

"Well, then we're sure she was using the wrong bible."

"Elizabeth- are you alright?" An opinionated sounding voice called over. The two agents turned around to see two ladies approach them.

"I'm fine. Uh, Renee, these are agents from MI5. They say Amanda was practicing..."

Elizabeth was cut off by the blonde woman Renee who tapped her on the shoulder before turning to Sam and Y/N.

"I'm sorry, detectives. You can tell Elizabeth is a little upset."

Y/N spoke "of course, Miss?"

"Mrs. Renee Van Allen" her glare hardened and she emphasised the Mrs.

"Would you like me to spell it for you?"

Y/N grinned. "I'll get by, thanks."

"This Amanda business has been hard for Liz. For all of us."

The other woman spoke up for the first time. She had a soft gentle voice. Renee responded:

"Yeah, I mean, you think you know a person."

The agents glanced at each other before Y/N spoke again.

"Well I guess we all have secrets, don't we?"

Tammi and Elizabeth looked down while Renee looked at the agents with a menacing smile. Sam spoke up:

"Well thanks. We'll be in touch."

"You have a real nice day now." Y/N said with a slightly menacing grin before walking off with his partner.

—~—

It was night time and Y/N and Sam were driving back to their hotel room.

"So you broke the no magic unless necessary rule?" Sam asked as he drove.

"Yeah I did but I'm telling you Sam it was weird. I got major bad touch vibes off those women, but legilimency. Nothing. No trace of Satanic leanings in any of them. I mean they're muggles. They couldn't use occlumency but it was like something was..."

"What?" Sam asked after Y/N trailed off, attempting to formulate his thoughts.

"Blocking me. Covering its tracks. I don't know Sammy I haven't come across it before."

Sam nodded and replied:

"Well I'm already sold on Eizabeth. That garden of hers, Y/N. Belladonna, wolfsbane, muggle mandrake. Not to mention the flinch she threw when we mentioned the occult."

"She's definitely had a good run lately" Y/N said as he looked through the local news clippings they had spent the afternoon researching.

"Gone up a few tax brackets. Won almost too many raffles. The kind of thing I'm guessing a little black magic always helps with."

"Yeah" Sam agreed.

"I don't think she's alone Sam. It's looks like Mrs Renee Van Allen has won almost every craft contest she's entered in the past three months."

"A regular Fanny Cradock huh. Minus the devil worship. I'm guessing that was the coven we met back there Y/N. Minus one member".

"Amanda was clearly going off reservation" Y/N agreed. "You think they killed her to keep up appearances?"

"They seem like an appearance type of crowd" Sam chuckled.

"So they killed a nut job. Should we thank them or gank them?" Y/N asked.

"They work in black magic too, Y/N. They need to be stopped. It's like Death Eaters. No exceptions." Sam said firmly.

Y/N nodded before double taking at Sam.

"Stopped like... stopped?"

Sam nodded.

"They're human, Sam"

"They're murderers."

"So am I?" Y/N asked him concerned.

"No you're a killer. There's a difference".

Y/N thought about it for a second chuckling: "Burn Satanist, burn!"

Suddenly the engine started spluttering and the car came to a stop. Sam looked at the dashboard concerned before a woman appeared in the road in front of them.

"What the hell?" Y/N asked as Sam got out the car and Y/N followed suit.

"Ruby" Sam said, approaching the woman

"Sam listen to me there's no time. You need to get out of town" Ruby pleaded.

"What are you talking about?" Sam questioned.

Y/N walked up towards the pair.

"So this is Ruby huh? Never had the pleasure"

Y/N instantly unsheathed his wand and pointed it at her head.

"Y/N" Sam said in shock

"I was hoping you'd show up" Y/N sneered.

"Point that thing somewhere else" Ruby glared at him.

"Ha ha ha. Right" Y/N replied sarcastically.

Ruby turned her attention back to Sam.

"Sam, please, go. Get in the car and don't look back."

"Why? I don't understand?" Sam asked with sincere concern. Before Ruby could reply Y/N had snapped:

"Hey hot stuff, we can take care of a few kitchen Satanists."

Ruby snapped back at Y/N just as snidely: "I'm not talking about Satanists you jackarse. Satanists are whores..."

Y/N side glanced at her odd comment but didn't lower his wand.

"...I'm talking about the one they serve."

Y/N's eyes shot at Sam who had an even greater look of worry on his face. It made Y/N anxious. Y/N knew he was training but hated being this unprepared.

"Demons" Sam muttered. Y/N's eyes widened:

"Oh so now there are demons as well? Fucking fantastic."

Y/N scratched behind his ear in frustration. Sam looked at Y/N and sighed:

"Satanists get their power from demons, Y/N. It's who they sell their souls to."

"Yeah" Ruby added. "And there's one here now. Sam it knows you're in town and it's gonna come after you. I thought this was just some weekend Wiccan getting too excited and blowing their magically load too early. I was wrong. It's way more than you can handle."

"Oh Sam come on. Please tell me you're not listening to this Knight of Merlin bitch, Sammy."

"Put a leash on your partner, Sam." Ruby snapped.

"Y/N just chill out" Sam asked as he raised his hands in a placatory manner. Y/N though was having no part of it.

"No. No. She's messing with your head, Sam. She's a Knight, that's what they do!"

"I'm telling the truth!" Ruby growled.

"And I'm telling you to shut up, bitch!"

"I'm sorry, why are you a part of this conversation?" Ruby snapped back.

"Maybe because he's my partner, you Merlin obsessed skank"

"Fuck you, Prophesied One!" Ruby practically spat. This infuriated Y/N even more. The Knights knew he was the Prophesied One? He heard that little voice in the back of his mind. The one that always pushed him to violence, to what needed to be done. It whispered to him...

Fucking do it!!!

"Like you said, Sam. No exceptions..."

Avada Kedavra

Y/N fired off a killing curse at Ruby, but Sam knocked his arm up at the last second, the curse flew into the air passed Ruby's right shoulder and she apparated away instantly. The two hunters glared at each other and got back in the car which was running again. No words were spoken until they got to their hotel room.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Y/N snapped at Sam.

"What? What the hell was I thinking? You're the one firing off killing curses, Y/N!" Sam snapped back.

"She's a Knight of Merlin, Sam. Period. The same ones working for Lilith? Breaking seals? They want us dead. We want them dead."

"Look I know it's dangerous. That she could be dangerous. But like it or not she's useful".

Y/N threw up his arms and grunted in frustration. He walked to the bathroom and washed his face. Sam called out to him.

"Look. It's a risk I know. But I'm your professor. Your mentor. Your partner. Your friend. Trust me, Y/N. Please."

"Bloody Hell!" Y/N snapped as he sat on his bed. "Fine but if she gives me one excuse"

"Thank you" Sam smiled as he sat on the other bed. Y/N sighed before gripping his stomach, a look of pain growing on his face.

"You ok Y/N?" Sam asked, concerned. Y/N answered "Yeah" before quickly doubling over, spitting blood everywhere.

"Sam something's wrong. Bloody knives inside me. Worse than crucio. The coven man it's gotta be the coven."

Sam raced to the bathroom and started tearing the room apart. Y/N fell to the floor, splitting up more and more blood.

Sam ripped out cupboards. Slashed open mattresses and poured contents of shelves onto the floor.

"Y/N I can't find it. I'll be back!"

He apparated away as Y/N groaned in agony.

The three Satanists were sat around the coffee table chanting when suddenly Renee's front door was blown off it's hinges.

"Oh my god" they screeched as they got up terrified. Sam stormed in with his wand drawn.

"Let him go!"

"Let who go? What are you doing? You're insane get out" Renee yelled back.

Bang!

Sam had cast bombarda non verbally at Renee's China hutch blowing it to pieces. The Muggles screeched even louder at the unexpected display of impossible magic. Sam roared:

"You think this Satanic crap is the only magic out there? You're killing my partner now let go. Get away from the alter. NOW!"

The woman ran back, still scared with their hands in the air.

"Okay! okay!" Tammi whimpered.

—~—

Y/N was on all fours on the ground with blood splattered across his face. A large pool of his life fluid was on the floor next to him. All Y/N could think about was Hermione, seeing her face again as the pain increased and the room started to spin...

Suddenly the hotel room door was kicked in. Ruby stood there, glaring down at Y/N.

"You wanna kill me? Get in line, bitch" Y/N managed to mutter out through coughs of blood. Ruby flipped him over with her boot, dropped across his midsection straddling him and spraying a black/green liquid into his mouth from a pouch. She roared:

"Stop calling me bitch!"

—~—

Sam ordered the three women into another room, roaring "go!" with his wand still aimed at their heads. They stood there terrified. Elizabeth spoke up:

"What do you want? We weren't hurting anyone"

"Please, we don't even know your partner" Renee spoke up with a whimper.

"Stop the spell or die" Sam roared as he inched closer to Renee with his wand pointed between her eyes.

"Five seconds"

"What?" Renee panicked, her previous arrogance replaced by fear.

"Four"

"No please don't kill us. We were just getting Renee a lower mortgage rate" Elizabeth spoke up. Sam paused, looking very confused.

—~—

"Next time you point your wand at me. I'm not just gonna apparate, you understand?" Ruby smirked, looking down at Y/N, still straddled across his groin.

"Uh, you mind moving? I have a girlfriend" Y/N replied awkwardly. Ruby chuckled dryly and got off Y/N and he sat up. He looked at Ruby surprised as he stated:

"You... you saved my life?"

"Don't mention it." Ruby replied.

"What was that stuff? Arse? Tasted like arse"

"When's a potion ever tasted like butterbeer? Come on, Winchester's in trouble" Ruby smirked, turning and walking out the hotel room.

—~—

Sam pointed his wand at Elizabeth.

"Ok, maybe it's not you." He aimed it at Renee "or you"

Finally aiming it at Tammi. "Maybe it's you"

Tammi started to cry:

"I don't know what he's taking about. What are you even taking about?"

"All of you, everyone in your coven. You've all had runs of good fortune. Newsworthy good fortune. Except for you, Tammi. Now tell me, why is that? You didn't want anything for yourself? Or is it because you're already getting what you wanted?"

The other two looked at her in horror.

"Like these women's souls?"

Renee and Elizabeth looked back and forth between Sam and Tammi even more horrified as Tammi stuttered:

"I can't-I'm not. I-I-I don't..."

She suddenly stopped and grinned. Her eyes turned fully black.

"Nice dick work Taggert"

Elizabeth and Renee looked at their friend in shock and terror. Sam sneered and spat through gritted teeth:

"Let... my partner... go"

"What's wrong? Couldn't find my hex bag? Sorry sweetheart... But the Prophesied One's lungs should be on the floor by now."

Sam fired a killing curse at her. She held up a hand and stopped it in midair, the spell evaporating from existence. Sam looked in shock as Tammi swatted a hand and he flew across the room.

"You're in a lot of trouble Sam" she grinned.

Sam was pinned to the wall, about two feet off the floor.

"Tammi what's wrong with your eyes?" Elizabeth asked.

"Tammi, what are you doing?" Renee followed up in her usual arrogant voice.

"Renee, shut your painted hole." Tammi sneered.

"What? I-I will. You can't. Not in my house Tammi Benton."

Sam looked towards the blonde woman. She really was an arrogant idiot.

A flick of Tammi's wrist and Renee's head was 180 degree the wrong way, facing Elizabeth who screamed in terror as Renee's body dropped to the floor.

"Look. You got me! Let the girl go!" Sam tried to bargain from his holding place on the wall.

"You wait your turn young man" Tammi sneered and grinned.

"Ohh god" Elizabeth cried in abject terror. Her hands were on her mouth trying to placate her fear.

Tammi smiled at her menacingly, whispering: "Shh shh shh. Lizzy it's ok"

She smiled playing with Elizabeth's hair.

"You're not Tammi are you?"

"No. But I am wearing her meat. I had to break the ice to you girls somehow."

"You killed Renee"

"Renee, Amanda. That's what happens to Satanists who get voted off the island"

"Who are you?" Elizabeth asked in fear. Tammi laughed.

"Funny story, actually. You remember all those dark, demonic forces you prayed to when you swore your servitude? Just who did you think you were praying to?"

"This-this isn't... It can't-"

"What did you think it was?" Tammi laughed again. "Make believe? Positive thinking? The secret? No. It was me. You sold yourself to me, you little pig-whore"

A tear dropped down Elizabeth's face as she shook her head in shock.

"All I had to do was bring one good book to book club and you ladies lined up to kiss my arse."

"No. No. We didn't know-"

"Oh yes you did. Every step of the way and now your ever living souls are mine."

Tammi turned back to Sam.

"Comments? Questions? Sammy Winchester. Huh. You're not even the one we want. You're just his friend. Not everyone in the pit is happy about Lillith's plan. She has powerful forces behind her, but some of us like the status quo. Don't know what change Lucifer would bring back. Had to take the Prophesied One off the board. He's the key to everything."

"Y/N.. how?"

"I've said too much as it is" Tammi smirked. "Nothing personal"

She starting demonically pushing Sam through the wall, crushing him as he groaned in pain and the wall cracked behind him at the force. At that very moment Y/N came bursting through the door and fired a spell Sam had taught him at Tammi.

Spiritus Sanctus Aquatus

Tammi screeched in pain as the holy water connected and burnt her skin, smoke lifting from her face.

"Holy water you little fuck?" She looked at Y/N who fired off another spell causing her to groan in pain.

"You're supposed to be dead. WHY AREN'T YOU DEAD?" She raged, throwing Y/N against the wall near Sam.

"Sorry hellslut I don't die easy" Y/N groaned. His glamour dropped under the demon's influence and Elizabeth looked at him shocked.

"You-You're a kid?"

"Fourteen actually. But I'm big for my age." Y/N chuckled before he groaned being pushed further into the wall.

"A lot of big players want you dead boy. Imagine the honour they will bestow upon me" Tammi chuckled.

"Yeah, well you better not miss, bitch" Y/N glared at her before groaning more.

"Wait stop. Let me watch." Ruby said as she rushed into the room.

"Ruby? You fucking traitor" Tammi said with a glare.

"I just came to talk. I'm sorry. I missed you Master. That's why I tricked them, brought them here. For you!"

Sam looked shocked, more so when he glanced over to Y/N's face and he didn't appear angered.

"You were always one of my favourites Ruby" Tammi smiled before looking over at Sam's face.

"What surprised? She didn't tell you?" Tammi grinned as at the shocked expression Sam held.

"All Knights of Merlin sell their souls to a demon when they join. It's why they are so powerful. This whore is mine."

Elizabeth slowly backed away unnoticed and headed towards the altar. Tammi turned fully towards Sam:

"I think I'll flay you alive. Make the Prophesied One watch while I kill his friend before killing him."

"Come here and say that whore" Y/N goaded, hoping to draw the demon's attention. All he needed was a moment. Ruby promised him a moment.

Tammi looked at Y/N angered before groaning in pain. Ruby had stabbed her in the middle of the back with a blade.

"Are you fucking stupid?" Tammi turned grabbing Ruby by the throat. Suddenly she felt her powers weaken.

—~—

Elizabeth was chanting a spell, trying to weaken the demon. It worked momentarily until Elizabeth felt her throat squeeze and dropped to the alter, dead.

—~—

Y/N and Sam dropped to the floor, the demon not noticing as it's attention was stuck on Ruby.

"Cursed blade" Ruby grinned as the demon squeezed.

"You're stuck in that meat suit now. Kill the meat suit..."

Y/N apparated behind the demon and in an instant unsheathed his angel blade, shoving it up into the demon's rib cage. She let go of Ruby's throat as her eyes and mouth illuminated in heavenly translucent white and she fell to the floor, dead.

"And you kill the demon" Ruby said as she gasped for breath.

Y/N stood up straight, retracting the Angel Blade on his forearm and holding his left arm out to Sam and helping him to his feet. Sam didn't notice Y/N's right arm hanging at his side.

"You two get out of here I'll clean this up. Go." Ruby said. Sam picked up a book from the altar before apparating him and Y/N to the hotel room.

"Fuck me" Y/N grunted in pain as they landed.

"Great job Y/N. You need to get back to school but will have to apparate from the Leaky Cauldron. Let's go now."

Y/N nodded and the pair got in the car and drove. Sam explained what happened before Y/N got there. Then it was quiet.

"You ok Y/N? You're awful quiet over there"

"Yeah. Just thinking about it. Everything that demon said. I'm the key to everything, a lot of big players want me taken out. When does it end Sam?"

"I wish I could tell you mate. Look we have Ghoul Studies in 8 hours. This week just work on your assignments. Add 3ft scrolls on Satanists, Demons and Vampires. I need to sleep."

"Roger that" Y/N chuckled. They arrived back in London and walked into the Leaky Cauldron.

"Two beers and two scotches, Tom" Sam ordered.

Tom nodded at Sam before looking at Y/N with wide eyes and looking down. He quickly got the four drinks in front of Sam.

Sam took a shot of scotch and Y/N did the same. They downed them at the same time.

"I needed that" Y/N chuckled. They drank the beer in silence before Sam motioned to Y/N.

"Put these in your pouch. The first, Malleus Maleficarium, is basically everything you need to know about Satanists. The second is called The Book of Shadows. I nabbed it from the Coven. Don't let anyone else read it and don't try anything in there. This is pure Satanic Demonic evil. But you need to know what you're up against. Especially if they are gunning for you."

Y/N placed the books in his pouch.

"Thanks Sam. I'll see you next week, brother."

With that he apparated. Sam smiled. Brother... he liked the sound of that. He ordered another beer and booked a room for the night.

—~—

Y/N arrived back at Hogwarts in the male toilets across from McGonagall's office and checked the time. 3am Sunday morning. Fuck. He did the maths and entered a stall. He turned the time turner 57 times and quickly arrived back. 6pm, Thursday.

He exited the stall and watched from a crack in the door as Hermione walked into McGonagall's office. Y/N watched McGonagall leave looking mighty pissed and when the coast was clear he walked across to her office.

He entered and smiled seeing Hermione and Charlie sitting there. Both got up shocked to see the sight of him.

He had cuts over his face, blood stains on him and he was fairly certain a dislocated shoulder. He gingerly walked up to his girlfriend who kissed him before pulling away.

"What's that taste babe?" She asked at the unusually heavy taste of his lips.

"Beer... or scotch, Merlin I missed you, babe"

"'Why have you been drinking Y/N?" Charlie asked concerned.

"Post Hunt ritual Charlie. Trust me I needed it. Cass?"

With a flutter Castiel appeared. He looked to have a relieved look on his face.

"Y/N... Fantastic job taking down the abomination. What do you need?"

"Think I've got a dislocated shoulder. Can you fix me up? It's hard to explain to Pomfrey how I keep getting these injuries."

Castiel healed him with a touch and disappeared. Hermione sat him down and held his hands tight.

"Dislocated shoulder? How long were you gone? What was the abomination?"

Y/N chuckled and kissed Hermione to calm her down.

"I just got back at 3am Sunday morning.."

He looked across to his Counsellor.

"... Charlie, I have a time turner, top secret ok?"

Charlie looked bewildered momentarily but chuckled and nodded, replying:

"Of course you do."

"Babe! We're not supposed to tell anyone" Hermione gasped.

"I know. But Charlie is trustworthy, love. I even had Cass check her out. She won't betray us. Will you Charlie?"

Charlie smiled. "No I won't. Now tell us what happened on this hunt."

—~—

It took most of their allotted time to recount the story of Y/N's last few days.

"So demons, they're real? They want you dead?" Hermione asked, looking at her boyfriend with concern.

"Yeah. But.... this kills them"

Y/N unsheathed his Angel Blade before sheathing it again.

"They can't track me babe, Cass's sigils made sure of it. Just another inconvenience. You sure you still want to be my girlfriend?" Y/N chuckled.

Hermione climbed on Y/N's lap and kissed him before hugging him tight. He returned the hug as she spoke from it extremely angrily:

"Don't ever ask me that again, baby!"

"I think you have your answer, Y/N" Charlie said as she smiled at the young couple in front of her.
