The next morning breakfast concluded with a request from Y/N that Hermione was only too happy to oblige.

The couple headed to the library. Y/N had spent a lot of time the previous afternoon trying to mentally sort through all the revelations he had been given the past few days.

He concluded that he accepted Gellert Grindelwald was his grandfather. He hated it, but he accepted it. He probably wouldn't have been so willing to if it wasn't basically confirmed by Severus, but he trusted his Godfather beyond reproach. It definitely made it easier that Hermione wasn't the slightest bit affected by the news. Y/N smiled to himself at that thought. He definitely didn't deserve that girl.

The facts seemed to imply Snape was correct anyway. Y/N's visions had been correct the whole year, he found Hermione in the exact same position and the exact same location as he saw in his dreams. It was just for the fact that he was so emotionally affected that he didn't realise- in his vision she wasn't dead- she was petrified.

He had also had the incident with Quirrell and the 'Protego Diabolica' as Snape and Albus had put it. No one had seen the spell used in 50 years, and very few even knew of its existence. Y/N certainly hadn't heard of it, or had any clue how to cast it, but in a time of extreme desperation he was able to summon it. That surely meant that there was some connection to Grindelwald. It may even have been some other hereditary skill he wasn't yet aware of.

Finally there was the Elemental Magic. If Y/N hadn't thrown the fireballs out of his hand he never would have believed it. He knew it was possible to summon small amounts of the elements, he had done it himself. But to do so in such large quantities and with such devastating force, without needing a wand. Well...

Y/N hated his grandfather. Everything Grindelwald fought for was the opposite of all Y/N believed in, what his father died for. But damn it, if he was related to the prick he would use Grindelwald's genetic legacy to ensure the safety of as many Muggleborn and half breeds as he could, while slaughtering as many blood supremacist arseholes as he was able to.

It was beautifully ironic, in a twisted kind of way.

Y/N and Hermione arrived at the library and were not the least bit surprised to see they were the only students in there.

Y/N was surprised at how polite and, in truth, delightful, Madam Pince was when greeting the pair. Usually she was extremely grumpy towards students, and Y/N had riled her up in amusement in the past.

Irma Pince though did like Hermione a great deal... and Y/N did literally save her job only 72 hours prior. She smiled at the two and asked what she could help them with, her face quickly dropping not long into the conversation-

"So what brings you two here? Exams cancelled, classes finished, Surely you're not getting a head start for next year already?" Pince asked with a chuckle.

Y/N looked across at Hermione and smirked to himself, watching as the cogs worked over in her mind at the librarian's suggestion. He spoke politely:

"No Madam Pince, I actually need to look up a few subjects that may be.. questionable and I'd prefer it if we could be.. discreet about it, at least regarding staff and students other than Dumbledore and Snape."

Pince's eyes narrowed at Y/N before an eyebrow raised:

"What exactly are you hoping to research, Y/N?"

Y/N smirked. He knew this wouldn't be easy.

"Firstly, I need anything you have on Elemental magic, particularly on summoning and controlling it. Secondly, if you can point me in the direction of being a Seer and particularly dream interpretation and vision control?"

Pince nodded but asked with a questioning tone:

"Yes, they are topics of no concern. They are easily accessible and I can show you where to look. Was there anything else?" she asked confused as to why Y/N needed to be discreet. Y/N answered:

"Yes."

Before looking around again to ensure no one was within earshot. He lowered his voice:

"I need to know where I can find all the information you have on Gellert Grindelwald and the spell Protego Diabolica."

Pince gasped. That wasn't a good sign.

"Those materials are in the restricted section. Your note is no longer valid as the Professor is no longer employed at Hogwarts-"

"Could you ask the headmaster for permission Madam Pince? Please. I wouldn't ask if it wasn't important" Y/N asked with sincerity. Pince looked into Y/N's eyes momentarily, debating what to do before sighing:

"Very well. Wait here."

The young couple had stood at the library check out desk for about five minutes hand in hand. Hermione looked at Y/N and asked:

"Do you think you'll be able to research it Y/N? I mean Madam Pince's face when you mentioned his... spell. It must be pretty dark stuff."

Y/N appreciated Hermione not mentioning his connection to Grindelwald out loud. His friends knew. Snape and Dumbledore knew. Probably a lot of the other teachers as well, or at least had suspicions. But he wasn't ready for the world to know yet. Not until he had figured it out himself, plus he had to tell his brothers. They had a right to know. He answered:

"I hope so babe. I want to study it, learn how to master it"

"What?" Hermione asked loudly before realising and lowering her voice: "Why would you want that Y/N? That spell kills people."

Y/N chuckled and spoke to Hermione through legilimency:

'Mione love, have you forgotten? I kill people- I'm the Punisher!

"Right, right sorry love. I just forget sometimes" Hermione said apologetically. Y/N smiled and wrapped his arms around her waist. Hermione lifted hers up and wrapped them around Y/N's neck as he pecked her lips.

"Does that make you look at me differently 'Mione?" Y/N asked with an expression that was difficult to read.

"No no not at all. It's just a shock. I mean you are the Prophesied One so of course you would have to. And Quirrell... I just never thought about... but you had to... it's just..."

Hermione was rambling. Y/N kissed her gently again and smiled, speaking warmly:

"I think that's one of the big differences between the Muggle and Magical worlds, isn't it babe. Penny explained to me when I was younger that killing someone is pretty much the worst thing you can do in the muggle world."

Hermione nodded as Y/N continued:

"The Wizarding World is built by killers. Voldemort's a killer. Dumbledore's a killer. My father was a killer. Your future husband is a killer. Your sons will likely be killers. What's important is what you kill for."

He hugged her tight before releasing and continuing.

"I killed Quirrell to save Harry from brutal torture, torture I had just been subjected to. The men killed by the Punisher were guilty of the vilest of crimes. The wizards and witches I killed with Mad-Eye and Jacob, they were part of a dark coven that was stealing muggle babies and cutting them up alive to use in dark potions and brews."

Hermione gasped. Y/N nodded:

"The Dark Arts aren't just about curses and bad guys like simpletons like Ron would have you believe. They are full of the most disgusting, vile, debauched evil you couldn't or wouldn't want to imagine. So when people like that are...rubbed out. It's killing for the right reason. To protect innocent lives. Does that make sense?"

Hermione hugged Y/N tightly, whispering:
"Of course it does."

They stood in the embrace for a few minutes before Hermione asked:

"Did you really call yourself my future husband?"

Y/N chuckled and replied: "Thought I'd got away with that."

Hermione giggled and added: "Can't wait"

She leaned up and kissed him on the lips while smiling. Just at this moment Pince returned to the desk.

"Really you two, congratulations on your newfound love, but this is a library."

Hermione instantly recoiled from the kiss embarrassed.

"Sorry Madam Pince" she apologised blushing heavily.

"What did the headmaster say ma'am?" Y/N asked, ignoring the previous reprimand.
Pince sighed.

"You are allowed to access those materials Y/N, but only you. Do you want to look now?"

"No, I think while we are both here we'll look at the other stuff and I can look at the restricted by myself after- is that ok with you baby" he asked turning to Hermione.

"Of course" she smiled. "Whatever you need love."

The two of them spent hours reading through books on seers and dreams and elemental magic.

Y/N was taking copious amounts of notes, trying to figure how best to summon, and more importantly, control the elements. There were horror stories of wizards and witches losing control and incinerating their entire families. Apparently the Great Fire of London started after one Elemental, as they were known, drunkenly attacked another wizard with fireballs after he had stolen the Elemental's wand.

After three hours of not looking up from reading, his attention was drawn by Hermione placing her hands on his shoulders and kissing him.

He looked up to return the kiss and noticed Harry, Ron and Lav standing there.

"Hey guys, when did you get here?"

Lav chuckled. "We've been here talking with Hermione the last 20 minutes Y/N. We've been trying to get your attention the last ten."

Y/N looked at Hermione shocked who giggled and nodded.

"Sorry I was miles away. What's up?"

"It's lunch, c'mon you" Hermione smiled while pulling him up. She knew when he got focused like this if she didn't force him to eat he would miss meals to keep working.

The five of them left the library and headed to the great hall. Hermione and Y/N, as always, hand in hand. They arrived at lunch and sat down, Y/N polishing off some sandwiches quickly.

"Slow down, chew your food" Hermione giggled.

"Sorry, anxious to get back, got a lot to learn if I'm to master these skills" Y/N replied sheepishly.

"I'm guessing you'll be learning about it over summer Y/N?" Hermione asked. She wanted to spend her whole break with Y/N but she knew that wouldn't happen.

"I'm not sure babe, Jacob has never mentioned anything about these skills before. I don't think he has them" Y/N answered. This shocked the friends.

"I thought you'd all have them Y/N?" Ron answered.

"No, I mean neither Jacob nor Dean are Beast Whisperers, just got lucky I guess."

"I was hoping to borrow Hermione after lunch Y/N, if you don't mind" Lavender said smiling at her best friend.

"No worries, if that's what you want 'Mione" Y/N grinned happily, he loved seeing Hermione and Lavender so close. Lavender always had Hermione's back, even, like twelve months prior, against Y/N. He truly appreciated that.

"I'd like that if you don't mind Y/N" Hermione smiled, she was looking forward to catching up with her best friend.

"No, not at all. While you're doing that I'll go to the restricted section and look up, y'know."

Hermione nodded.

"Can I ask what Y/N?" Harry asked in concern. He wasn't trying to pry, but after what he'd heard in the Chamber he was worried for his best friend.

Y/N looked at Harry and could sense his concern. He smiled as he spoke:

"You remember what happened to Quirrell last year?"

Harry nodded.

"That. There's a chance it could be part of my grandfather's genetic legacy."

Harry nodded again in understanding. After finishing lunch and kissing Hermione goodbye Y/N headed back to the library.

There wasn't a lot of information about Protego Diabolica but what was there was informative. First recorded use was in Paris in 1926. Only Grindelwald was known to have used it. The spell separates friends from foe, those loyal to the wielder and those not. Even spies were killed by the flames when Grindelwald himself didn't know they were spies.

Now that interested Y/N.
