22 Quidditch Concerns
It was Saturday morning and time for the first Quidditch match of the year, the traditional season opener of Gryffindor vs Slytherin.
Y/N had been getting progressively more antsy the closer the game got. It had taken a lot of convincing for him to eventually leave Hermione after breakfast, when she had assured him she would be fine. She had all the precautions in place Y/N had provided her, and she would be accompanied to the pitch by Lavender, Ron, Cedric, Beatrice and Maisy. She wouldn't be alone. He reluctantly left with the team.
-~-
Oliver Wood was attempting to give his team address but was struggling- his team couldn't focus as Y/N paced nervously around the tent.
"Y/N can you sit please? I'm sure she's fine, but we need to focus and-"
Wood was cut off by Y/N snapping ferociously:
"I'm more focused on the snitch then I've ever been Wood. I just want to catch the fucking thing and get this stupid game over with!"
Katie glared over at Y/N, spitting venomously:
"Well at least you're consistent!"
To Harry's surprise Y/N had completely ignored her, but for a quick death glare. The Gryffindors heard Lee Jordan's commentary start over the loud speakers:
"Welcome everyone to the opening game of the Hogwarts Quidditch season. We are here to witness the defending champions Gryffindor take on Slytherin.
There has been an incredible amount of bad blood between these two teams, as we are aware, so today should be a ferocious contest.
One enjoyable aspect of Gryffindor games is the prematch ritual of Y/N L/N, playing a muggle rock'n roll song before each match. I wonder what he has in store for us today..."
The stadium was momentarily quiet, waiting with baited breath...
Nothing happened, instead the Gryffindor team flew out to a shocked crowd in almost silence. Y/N streaked passed his teammates, straight towards the Gryffindor stands.
-~-
Hermione watched Y/N stream towards her and desperately look through the crowd, searching for her in despair before he finally made eye contact, palpable relief instantly etched on his face.
Hermione tried to help calm him by smiling, waving and then blowing a kiss to him. As Y/N turned and flew back to his starting position Lavender turned to Hermione:
"He isn't coping is he?"
Hermione's face grew sad as she replied:
"No he's not. He's trying his hardest to convince me he's ok, and I haven't had the heart to tell him I know he's not."
Lavender rubbed her best friend's shoulder in support.

The game started with the Slytherin team being extremely nervous. Flint and Goyle were terrified of Y/N and Crabb hadn't been quite right since he returned to school, now being prone to fits of staring vacantly at thin air. The team was therefore relieved when Y/N used a different tactic to normal, remaining true to his word to his captain.
Y/N did nothing but fly up high and look for the snitch, wanting to get the game over as quickly as possible. This wasn't good for the Gryffindor team who had got used to Y/N being an enforcer for them the previous season. Fifteen minutes into the game Slytherin were up 90-30. Crabb and Goyle had grown their confidence back with Y/N flying high and seemingly ignoring the action below.
Harry scored a goal to bring the margin back to 50 points when suddenly he began veering all over the pitch. A bludger had seemingly gone rogue, and it was chasing and targeting him and him alone. Harry attempted to outrun the bludger, evading it as it tore through one of the stands.
Harry doubled over, reversing across the pitch before the bludger tore another hole through a stand, zooming back on the pitch and continuing to target the Boy Who Lived.
Harry continued darting across the pitch attempting to flee before he zigged when he should have zagged, the bludger smashing into the back of his broom. It stuttered and smoked, coming to a halt and levitating in place as Harry looked towards the bludger, coming straight for him. He was a sitting duck and closed his eyes, waiting for the inevitable hit.
At the last moment Harry felt himself yanked off his broom, he heard the crowd ooh and ahh and applaud. He opened his eyes to see and hear Y/N say:
"Hold on tight Harry!"
Harry did. Y/N must have saved him at the very last moment. Y/N sped ahead at full speed, having caught sight of the snitch, and was tearing across the pitch, squeezing and tunnelling through the play around him.
Draco had seen Y/N and the snitch and had shot across, attempting to sneak past Y/N. He caught up along side and attempted to throw an elbow but Y/N dismissed him almost insultingly, not even looking at Draco but throwing a savage boot out.
His kick hit Draco with such force, and Draco was so inexperienced on such a powerful broom, that he quickly lost control, veering off course screaming, smashing into a stadium wall and hitting the ground hard.

Lucius Malfoy had made a visit to Hogwarts to watch his son's debut match. He looked down at the crying mess on the ground with distain.
-~-
Y/N was edging closer and closer to the snitch, his right arm outstretched. He was millimetres from grabbing it when a sickening thud and an agonising sharp pain pulled him back. The bludger had cannoned into Y/N's arm, shattering his radius and ulna. He roared in pain, pulling his right arm close to his body before leaning forward, picking up more speed. He ignored Harry's panicked screams from behind as he released the broom with his left arm, reaching forward and toppling from the broom.
Harry managed to gain control and stay atop the broom as he tried to slow down and turned in terror, watching his best friend rag doll across the ground.
-~-
Hermione watched the scene in horror from the stands and ran off towards the pitch, with Ron and Lavender in close pursuit.
-~-
Y/N was laying on his back unmoved as an eerie silence crossed the pitch. Even the two teams had stopped playing and were staring down at him.
He slowly lifted his left arm up, showing he had caught the snitch and the Gryffindor supporting sections of the ground exploded in joy. Madam Hooch blew her whistle and roared:
"Gryffindor wins!"
Y/N laid there, the pain radiating through his body mixing with the exhilarating rush of what had just happened, not to mention beating Slytherin at Quidditch, when he was suddenly pulled from his thoughts. The bludger was cannoning down at him, attempting to smash him into the ground. He rolled left, he rolled right. He was fumbling, attempting to get his wand off his broken arm when he heard:
Finite Incantatem
The bludger exploded and Hermione rushed over to Y/N who was now surrounded by worried teammates. Even Katie looked upset. Hermione grabbed him as softly as she could.
"Are you alright Y/N?" she asked desperately though her tears. Y/N smiled, attempting to reassure the worried girl.
"Yeah I'm fine babe. But I think my arm is broken."
He tried to lift it but couldn't raise it up. At this point some of the teachers and Hagrid arrived. Lavender looked overjoyed as she smiled at Professor Lockhart.
"Professor, you can heal Y/N! You said only last lesson you were chief advisor to the head of St.Mungo's."
Everyone minus Lavender and the Quidditch girls gave him a look of sheer incredulity. He chuckled and mumbled awkwardly:
"Ah, well, I should think that in this case, that is to say-"
Y/N grinned at the Professor almost maniacally.
"No. Professor I insist. You wouldn't want to be derelict in your duties as a Hogwarts Professor would you? That would be almost... an unbreakable sin!"
Dumbledore and Snape, who were the only two aware of the unbreakable vow, other than Hermione, both had small grins quickly break onto their faces that they were able to hide as Lockhart pulled his wand and stumbled on his words:
"Oh..ah..uh..um...yes... well quite."
He gently took Y/N's arm and held out his wand to it, casting:
Brackium Emendi
The crowd that had gathered around shrieked at the sight of Y/N's forearm. It was now boneless. Needless to say the spell didn't work.
"Ah yes well sometimes that can happen, but the point is you can no longer feel any pain" Lockhart chuckled as he bent Y/N's arm 90 degrees the wrong way, much to the disgust of the crowd.
"And very clearly the bones are no longer broken" he chuckled again.
Hagrid though erupted, not seeing the funny side:
"Broken!!! There's no bones left!"
Snape quickly shoved Lockhart out the way and helped Y/N to his feet. At the same time he thanked Lockhart, quite loudly, for his masterful competence of magic. Hermione took Y/N's good arm and helped guide him towards the hospital wing with Snape leading the way, wand drawn, and a very confused Ron, Lavender and Harry walking behind them.
-~-
As the group reached the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey was trying to dismiss a groaning Draco who had Pansy next to his bed shrieking and wailing.
"Oh be quiet you silly girl!" Pomfrey snapped. "I've told you already to go Mr Malfoy. Stop making such a fuss! You've got a bruised coccyx bone. That's it!"
Her expression changed instantly when she saw the state of Y/N's arm. To say she was furious would be an understatement. She rushed to her potion storeroom after instructing Snape to help Y/N onto a bed.
She quickly came racing back in with a bottle of Skele-Gro and a measuring cup.
"You should have been brought straight to me. I can mend bones in a heartbeat, but growing them back? You're in for a nasty night L/N."
"You will be able to regrow it won't you?" Hermione asked, the panic in her voice evident. Pomfrey smiled at the girl. Y/N always seemed to have her worried over one thing or another. She spoke gently:
"Yes dear, it will all be ok in a day or so..."
She smiled at Hermione and thought to herself 'these two are like two peas in a pod'. Her smile faded though as she added:
"...but it will be painful."
Pomfrey poured Y/N a serving of the thick potion and waiting for the inevitable reaction. She was stunned when there wasn't one. Y/N picked up on her confused expression and asked with a chuckle: "what?"
"You are the first student I've ever encountered not to have a reaction of pure revulsion to the taste of Skele-Gro, Mr. L/N" she stated, quite confused. Y/N chuckled:
"Oh right, yeah it did taste dreadful but I spat out a potion once when Jacob had given it to me. Learnt the hard way never to do that again."
The memory of what had happened came flooding back to Y/N's mind. He looked downwards and Hermione instantly rubbed his leg in sympathy. Snape however narrowed his eyes in anger at the boy's words.
Poppy looked at the pair with a mix of anger and sadness when she suddenly gasped and gripped his wobbly hand.
"Y/N, these scars... they're from an unbreakable vow... who made you do this?"
Y/N looked up at the matron, a wry smile growing on his face as he answered:
"Madam Pomfrey, it's my understanding you can't ask me those kinds of questions."
