38 Camping Trip: The Ocean
Y/N and Barnaby had been in the Reserve a week. They were both exhausted- there had been so much swimming.
The Ocean Biome had been much more difficult and more time consuming to cover than the Lake one. It was deeper, and just like a real ocean had waves and currents that needed to be contended with.
The Creatures in the whole were much larger and more dangerous as well.
Y/N had managed to befriend a number of the creatures as they worked. He found the Sea Serpents and Hippocampus to be delightful creatures, as was the Flying Seahorse pack. The Ramora was nice enough, but was stubborn as hell. It parked itself right in front of the two wizards and refused to move.
It had taken them two hours to work around him. He thought it was funny as hell.
The Shrakes in the Biome were another matter. They were not friendly, at all. But they agreed to keep their distance after Y/N had whispered to them.
The Horned Serpent kept its distance from the pair as well and didn't respond to Y/N's attempts at whispering, only answering that the pair needed to leave immediately. Y/N had read that Horned Serpents were regal and aloof, in rare texts he purchased from earlier whisperers. He assumed this is what they meant.
The beast had refused to answer any more whispers, other than to reiterate they needed to leave.
Y/N was under the assumption Horned Serpents were freshwater creatures and asked Barnaby about it at dinner one night. He had replied that they had tried him in the lake enclosure but he seemed to prefer salt water.
Apart from being constantly watched by the large serpent, nothing had struck them so far as unusual or out of the ordinary, all the bleeps that returned to them via the Sonarus charm were normal according to Barnaby.

It was day eight and the two wizards were progressing well. They were on the way back to the pier that they used to enter into the ocean itself. It was located at the front of the enclosure. The pair were halfway through the last 15% of the enclosure. They still had read no anomalous readings with 90% of the ocean warded off.
Barnaby was confused as to why they hadn't located anything yet, whereas Y/N's thoughts dwelled on his return to his dorm bed, his classes, his Hermione. He prayed to Merlin she was ok and that she would talk to him when he returned.
Y/N and Barnaby were about 50ft down in the ocean and approximately 100 yards from the Biome's entrance when they suddenly heard it. Rather than the small quick bleeps that returned to their ears the past six days, even from the massive Horned Serpent, this time they heard a large bloop.

The two looked at each other puzzled as they stopped swimming, before Y/N felt eyes on him. He heard a deep booming whisper-
Death!!!
And saw a look of horror on Barnaby's face. Y/N turned and his eyes widened, he spoke into his bubble:
"No... it can't be"
He reacted instantly, unsheathing his wand and sticking it into Barnaby's chest, the Magizoologist though was still frozen in fear.
Ascendio
Barnaby was shot upwards instantly as the animal charged with its enormous mouth opened. The force of the spell pushed Y/N deeper, allowing him to just avoid the creatures jaws.
The creature spun, turning around to have another go as Y/N pointed his wand down towards the ocean floor, screaming into his bubble again:
Ascendio
Y/N was propelled upwards as he sheathed his wand, but looked down to see the giant creature turn and swing it's massive tail through the water.
Y/N felt a tearing, crushing pain in his chest like he'd never experienced as it connected, dramatically increasing the force and velocity of his upward spiral.
Y/N flew up out of the water. He felt himself break through the surface and continue upwards, spiralling out of control and through the magical veil of the Ocean Biome.
His eyes grew heavy as the pain in his chest intensified, he felt himself losing consciousness as he continued to hurtle, losing track of which way was up and which was down. In one last effort he sent out a message through his legilimency:
Jacob! Dean!
The last thing he saw was white before everything went black.

Penny was sat in her lab at St Mungoes, happily eating lunch with Chiara Lobosca.
Chiara worked as a healer at St Mungoes and the two of them had been extremely close friends since their first day at Hogwarts, when they were sorted into Hufflepuff together.
They were both alarmed by a suddenly pop in the room, as Penny turned to be face to face with her fiancée, she could see fear on her lover's face.
"Dean honey? What are you-"
"No time to explain baby, we have to get to the floo network and get to Hogwarts. Something is very, very wrong with Y/N!"

Barnaby breached the surface and gasped as his bubble head charm was released. His mind was a flutter with a million panicked thoughts all at once. What the fuck was going on? How was that here? It wasn't possible. And Y/N... he'd sent Barnaby up but...
Fuck! Now Y/N was down there alone with it. Unsure what to do but aware of his own pending mortal peril, he swum quickly to the pier at the entrance of the enclosure. He heard the water's surface break behind him and waited for the attack, or more likely being swallowed whole... but it didn't happen. He instead saw out of his peripheral vision Y/N flying through the air, spiralling out of control, his torso glistening red.
Barnaby saw his little bro fly out the veil, across the path and into the Snowy Mountain enclosure.
Fuck. The Snowy Mountain enclosure.
Barnaby reached the pier and pulled himself out, quickly drying himself as he gently lifted Newt up and sat him on his shoulder, exclaiming:
"Hold on little guy!"
He ran as quick as he could, entering the cold snowy enclosure, desperate to find his young friend. He looked around despairingly, ignoring the Mountain Troll that was down at the stream near his left, or the Griffins that were flying above one of the mountain peaks to him right. He ran further in before stopping dead in sheer panic.
A fifteen foot, shaggy, white creature was walking towards him.
Chuckles, the name given by Y/N.
The Yeti.
He had Y/N in his arms. His fur was covered in blood. Barnaby stood still and looked down submissively. Any aggression and the Yeti could tear them both to pieces.
Y/N had frequently gone in the enclosure alone, and had told Barnaby he was good friends with the Yeti, as well as Jim, the Mountain Troll, but it looked like the Yeti had already attacked Y/N.
Barnaby stood there panicked, trying to think through scenarios in his mind. He couldn't magically attack the creature, not with Y/N in it's arms. He couldn't levitate Y/N out without leaving himself exposed to an attack.
He got more panicked as the creature stood in front of him, growling before it...
Gently handed Y/N to Barnaby. Barnaby was beyond shocked as he looked down in terror. Y/N's chest was torn open, he was pale, Barnaby didn't know if he was even still alive. His eyes teared up as a loud roar from the creature shook him from his shock. Barnaby turned and bolted.
He quickly exited the enclosure, then out the Reserve, still in his wetsuit, running desperately with Y/N in his arms. He raced across the field, passing Hagrid's Hut, ignoring the fire in his lungs. He had to get Y/N to the hospital wing, immediately.
He made it inside the castle walls and raced into a courtyard, where he saw Harry Potter and the youngest Weasley boy talking to Hagrid. He rushed to Hagrid, yelling through his breathlessness:
"Hagrid! Y/N's hurt badly, take him to the hospital now. No time to explain. I have to see Albus immediately!"
Hagrid looked momentarily shocked before looking at Y/N's pale lifeless body in Barnaby's arms. He grabbed Y/N, unaware a tiny bowtruckle had clambered from Barnaby's shoulder up unto his own frazzled hair. Hagrid turned and rushed to the hospital immediately, taking giant strides and roaring at any students that were in his way to move.
Barnaby stood in the courtyard in shock, he attempted to catch his breath, wiping his eyes unaware he had smeared his young friend's blood over his face. He stood, unaware of the reactions of the many students in the crowded courtyard. Some were crying. Others pointing or screaming. Many just stared in shock.
Neither was Barnaby aware of Minerva McGonagall screaming in his face as he looked down at his blood soaked hands.
Slap
"Answer me Mr Lee!"
Slap
Barnaby looked up at the elderly Professor who had just slapped him from his shocked stupor as she yelled again:
"What happened to Y/N? Answer me!"
Slap
Barnaby looked Minerva in the eyes after the third slap, yelling loudly:
"Minerva, we have to get to Albus, now!"
He grabbed her arm and started to run again.

Hermione had been sat in the courtyard on the sunny Monday afternoon, anxiously waiting, hoping Y/N would be back today. They had said they would be a week. It was now eight days since they left. Surely they would be back soon. Hermione wasn't sure what she was going to say to him when she saw him, all that mattered was that she saw him.
She sat with Lavender, both reading peacefully before they heard screams and yelling. Hermione looked up to see her whole world collapse.
She looked on, unable to formulate words, or a sentence, or to even move, as tears fell from her eyes.
She saw Barnaby, holding a limp and grey looking Y/N in his arms. Both of them were covered in blood. She saw Hagrid, Harry and Ron go pale, before the giant man ripped Y/N from Barnaby's arms and tore out of the courtyard. She couldn't move. She couldn't think. She couldn't speak. All she could do was cry.
Numbness. That's all she could feel.
Y/N couldn't be dead. He just couldn't be.
She felt Lavenders arms wrap around her, and Beatrice follow suit moments later as she sat, unable to process what had just happened.
