One!"
People pulled levers and pressed buttons. The blue liquid, the serum, started disappearing into the slots. I groaned in pain when I felt it seep in. The needles pierced through me and I tried not to scream.
"Now Mr. Stark." Dr. Erskine told Howard. I don't know what he did but he must have pressed a button or something. The capsule started turning up so that we were standing in an upright position. It started to close up. The "doors" closed in and something like a helmet came on top of our heads. It had a glass window through which I could see Peggy up in the booth.
"Steven? Cynthia? Can you hear me?" Dr. Erskine knocked on the capsule.
"Yeah," I breathed out, hoping he could hear it.
"It's probably too late to go to the bathroom, right?" Steve muttered. I chuckled.
"We will proceed." Dr. Erskine turned away from us. I heard many clicks before feeling and hearing the low rumbling.
"That's ten percent," Howard stated.
I cried out loud and writhed around. If that's only 10%, what was 100% going to be like?
"Twenty percent!
Thirty"
The noise grew louder. The bright lights forced me to clench my eyes shut.
"That's 40 percent!"
"Vital signs are normal!" a scientist declared.
"That's 50 percent!
Sixty,
Seventy," Steve started screaming. I let out MANY unladylike words. But soon I was moaning in pain. I kept cursing and crying. Soon Steve and I were screaming together.
"Cynthia!" Peggy screamed."Shut it down!"
"Steven! Cynthia!" Dr. Erskine started pounding on the glass to get our attention.
"Shut it down! Howard!" Peggy shouted.
"Cut the reactor, Mr. Stark!" Dr. Erskine ordered. "Turn it off! Kill it! Kill the reactor!"
"NO!" Steve yelled at the top of his lungs. "Don't!"
"We can do this!" I joined. It must have convinced them because the pain got worse. I let out more curses. At least I had an excuse.
"Eighty!
Ninety!
That's 100 PERCENT!"
I kept panting and screaming. It felt like my insides were being boiled and mixed around. After what felt like hours, everything buzzed down. I sighed in relief.
"Mr. Stark?" I heard Dr. Erskine shout. The doors slid open with a loud and prolonged hiss. I felt the cool air hit my skin. I stood still for a minute before stumbling out into one of the nurse's arms.
"Steven! Cynthia!" I heard multiple people talking in excitement. Steve must have also come out because I heard him.
"We did it." he muttered.
"Yeah. Yeah." Dr. Erskine said. "I think we did it."
"You actually did it." Howard muttered, starstruck. Peggy ran up to you. She clutched your shoulders, checking every inch to make sure that you were ok.
"I'm okay, Peg." I let out a breathy chuckle. She sighed in relief. As if hearing me talk made her even calmer. She turned to where Steve was standing and I followed her gaze.
