Chapter Eighteen (Part 2)
The broken boy began to loose every last bit of hope that still remained. Time was fading quickly, and he feared that he wouldn't be able to find her.
In his mind she was already gone, and she would never even think to give him a second chance.
Every moment spent alone fighting for the love he could never have would have all been for nothing...
All because of one person's despicable actions, an innocent man had to fight for justice. He had to prove himself not guilty! Before it was too late...
As his head hung lower than ever before, he cautiously glanced up from his crippling state of emotional turmoil when the Sun's rays suddenly struck his eyes. He squinted for a moment before something vaguely familiar caught his attention.
The moment his despondent eyes caught a glimpse of a black and pink silhouette, his heart began to aggressively pound in his chest.
It was now or never. He shut his eyes for a split second, deeply exhaled and wiped the sweat away from his brow bone.
He anxiously waited for the deafening silence to pass before picking up some speed.
Every fiber in his body was screaming at him to walk away, but his mind was telling him to carry on. He was conflicted, but he knew deep in his heart that this was the right thing to do.
He wasn't planning on telling her like this, which was a little disappointing, but he knew that he had no other choice. He would rather die telling the truth than live a lie, at least that way he could be content knowing that he had at least tried.
As he got closer, his footprints became louder and louder, until nothing but silence consumed every inch of his trembling body.
He came to an immediate standstill when the deep shades of ocean blue met the faded hues of emerald green.
As the boy stood alone in the isolated passage, he looked into the teary eyes of the girl who was too far from his reach.
Her glance alone was enough to paralyze his every action. Marinette didn't even need to mutter a single word for the disheartened blond to know that she didn't believe him.
Her once bright blue eyes were now gray and they were unknown. He had never seen her look so hurt, so broken... His heart ached seeing her in such a state, yet he knew that he couldn't help her, because she blamed him!
A few seconds had gone by, yet neither of them said anything. Adrien didn't know what to do, but he knew that he had to do something, and fast!
The sweet baker girl took one final glance at the lost boy before turning her back on him. And ran.
There was no more time to waste. At the very instant she turned around, the model forced his feet into the solid ground and chased after her.
As he continued to run, he had to hold back the tears that were starting to fall from his eyes.
His heart shattered into a million pieces, yet he still continued to run. He had to catch her, because he needed her!
Just before he thought his luck was gone forever, he miraculously managed to reach for her arm. As his fingers meandered their way around her slender wrist, he quickly tightened his grip so that she wouldn't be able to get away.
As soon as she was trapped, she attempted to escape. But it was useless; he was way too strong.
Realizing that it hopeless, she relaxed ever so slightly, but she refused to look at him. Marinette's body was stiff, but her mind was racing with fear.
They just stood there, lost in the unbearable silence as no one dared to speak.
Adrien was about to say something when he felt her resist his very touch, but he quickly closed his mouth when she unexpectedly turned around.
At the very second their eyes instinctively met, time seemed to be non-existent. It was excruciatingly painful to see the hurt and rejection in those once beautiful, bright blue eyes.
"Let me go!" She screamed at him in a voice that was so harsh, it was almost terrifying.
Ignoring her command, he only pulled her closer, until they were just centimeters apart.
"No," his voice was soft, yet sincere.
Marinette looked at him with agony in her eyes, "How could you do this to me!? I trusted you!"
Adrien could feel his heart breaking for the hundredth time that day. As a single tear flowed down his tanned skin, he looked at her before hesitantly reaching for her cheek.
His free hand was shaking uncontrollably, as an unnatural amount of adrenaline began to flow throughout every inch of his entire body.
When Marinette felt the warm sensation of human skin upon her own, she froze before immediately glancing up at him. Her mind was telling her to back away, but her heart was telling her to stay...
With the tears still falling, she weakly stared at him as she waited for him to respond.
As the blond gently brushed his thumb along her rosy cheek, he could feel Marinette flinch. As she continued to stare deep into his apologetic eyes, she could feel her heart ripping apart.
"Adri..." She tried.
"Shhh..." He quickly cupped her jaw in his palm, "I promise you... I didn't do this... I swear..." His voice was desperate; he needed her to believe him!
As soon as he said those words, she pulled away and shook her head in disapproval.
"I... I don't believe you! You were the only one I told... And now everyone thinks I'm a slut! They think I cheated on Nathanaël-"
"I know... I saw..." His voice was extremely weak, "But I never posted it. I would never do that! Wh... Why don't you believe... me?" He had to take in a deep breath because he could feel his voice cracking.
Completely ignoring his last question, she frowned and vacantly stared at him, "Then prove it!"
Adrien felt like a failure... He felt so alone and so useless. His heart continued to beat uncontrollably. But despite how terrible he felt, he knew that he just had to do this...
He took in a deep breath and sadly sighed, "I would never do that... Because..."
With his hand still holding onto her tiny wrist, he suddenly stopped talking.
He gave her one final glance before pulling her closer than ever before. He was so fast, that she didn't even have a chance to react. Adrien let go of her wrist before wrapping his masculine arm around her shoulders.
Marinette could feel her heart begin to violently pound against her ribcage. He was so close, that she could feel his hot breath against her icy skin. She swallowed hard and just stared up at him; taking in every inch of his perfectly sculptured face.
As her dejected blue orbs glanced deep into his longing eyes for the very last time, she instantly believed him.
It felt as if a knife had unknowingly been impaled right into the center of her chest, because she could hardly even breath. Marinette felt like she was drowning in an unforgiving sea of indescribable melancholy.
A single tear escaped from her eye as her heart rate began to accelerate, and she immediately regretted not believing him.
As time seemed to slow down to an immediate standstill, the model closed the remaining space between them.
Without thinking, he closed his eyes and slammed his lips against hers.
Marinette's eyes grew wide with shock. She didn't know how to register what had just happened, but she didn't even care. She wanted him, now more than ever before.
His lips were so soft, so warm and so... So addictive... It was basically impossible not to give into the burning desire that was ignited inside the deepest depths of her fragmented soul.
And she kissed him back.
Adrien was a little surprised when her unknown passion quickly escalated, but he wasn't at all disappointed. He gently cuped her cheek in his palm and brushed away the final remnants of her salty tears.
As their lips began to move in perfect sync, Marinette hesitatly placed her hand at the back of his head, and began to fiddle with a few strands of his shiny hair.
A soft moan escaped from her mouth, as Adrien leaned in to deepen the kiss.
Everything about her was just so beautiful and amazing, he couldn't seem to get enough. He wanted to stay like that forever, immersed in her loving embrace.
But he knew that it would unfortunately not last forever. Adrien was sad and disappointed when he felt her hesitantly pull away.
His lips already felt naked, and he longed for them to be consumed by the warmth that resonated from her very touch. Her lips were intoxicating, and he longed for more...
Marinette shyly looked away as she waited for him to say something. She didn't know whether she was sad, happy, or embarrassed.
Her face, ears and shoulders were currently blood red, and her lips were a little bit swollen. She was half paralyzed, and half trembling with anxiety.
After what felt like an eternity, the boy gave her an unsure glance as he rubbed a hand through his messy hair. He was completely flustered and his heart was still beating fast.
"... Marinette... I am so sorry... I didn't mean-" He took in a deep breath and looked right at her, "... I lo-"
Sensing his sudden distress, Marinette gently placed a hand upon his crimson cheek. The sudden sensation caused shivers to run down his spine as he looked into her understanding eyes.
"It's okay..." She nervously rubbed the back of her neck, "Take your time," she mumbled as she gave him a sweet smile.
Adrien momentarily glanced at her swollen lips for a split second before reverting his gaze to the ground, "I... I swear I'm innocent, because I care way too much about you-"
The girl's lips instantly grew apart as her eyes widened in shock. Hearing Adrien say that, made her emotions go haywire. She was numb to the core, and seemed to have lost her ability to speak.
"I wasn't planning on telling you like this..." The model gave her a weak smile as he nervously rubbed his neck.
Marinette was still speechless. She could feel the heat return to her pale cheeks as she continued to quietly listen to every single word. She had a very good idea of where this was going, but she wasn't sure if she was ready to believe it.
Seeing that she was still quiet, the anxious teenager decided that he needed to continue. Despite the fact that he was still trembling with fear, he put on a brave face and cautiously reached for her exposed hand.
At the exact moment his hand was locked in hers, she didn't resist. In fact, she gave him a slight squeeze in order to reassure him that she wasn't going anywhere.
Knowing that she didn't pull away ment everything to him. He felt his overly tense body relax ever so slightly as her skin began to radiate with warmth.
"... I know that in the very beginning, we didn't get along that well..." His face fell when vivid memories of the recent past flooded his mind. "But everything changed when we started spending more time together..."
She quietly smiled to herself as she remembered the time she gave him her umbrella. He was so mad that day, she was even too scared to approach him.
But after taking in a deep breath, and gaining the smallest ounce of courage that she could find, she was able to give him a second chance at life.
The progress was extremely slow, but he eventually came out of his shell and transcended into a completely new creation.
He had left behind a life full of pain and disappointment, and traded it for a life full of love and beauty.
Adrien's eyes seemed to glisten in the cool afternoon sun as a small smile covered his face. He was a little more confident now, and his anxiety seemed to minimize its intensity by every passing second.
"I didn't know it at the time, but something changed in me that day you handed me your umbrella."
"Re... Really?"
He nodded his head before looking back at her, "Indeed. You were so kind to me, that I had to take a moment to properly process everything... And after that day, everything suddenly became crystal clear. I began to see you for who you really are. And that is an amazing young woman, whose kindness is beyond all comprehension. An ordinary school girl by day, but the most incredible violinist by night-"
As she continued to attentively listen to every single word, she instantaneously melted into a big, gooy puddle. The boy who she had very recently developed feelings for, was just being so unbelievably sweet.
If there was even the slightest hint of doubt left in her mind, it was no longer there. How could she not believe him when he was just so sincere?
Seeing that Marinette was still silent and looking at him with wide eyes, he began to rub circles along the back of her hand. She slightly flinched, but quickly relaxed when he tucked a single strand of raven hair behind her ear.
"Marinette..." He whispered into her ear. "You are so amazing, you don't even realize it. You are absolutely gorgeous, yet you fail to completely comprehend it. I constantly ask myself why you can't see it, but now I know why-"
Marinette's entre body felt as though it was on fire. Her cheeks were covered in a deep crimson blush, and her poor little heart was beating faster than it ever had. Her deep, mysterious eyes were fixed on the dark hues of green flecks that scattered across his irises.
"... If only you could see yourself through my own eyes. Then maybe... Just maybe... You would be able to see yourself the way I see you..."
"... Adrien... I-"
Before she said anything more, he lovingly wrapped his arms around her petite frame.
The baker girl was still paralyzed with shock, but her body slowly gave into his warm embrace. She buried her face into his rock hard chest as more tears continued to flow down her crimson coloured face.
Not before long, her arms cautiously found a comfortable spot around his waist. Right at that exact moment she knew. She no longer had a single doubt in mind. Adrien was innocent, and that's all that mattered.
As the blue-eyed girl was still holding onto him, he slightly leaned back. He ceased the moment, and planted a soft kiss upon her forehead.
Adrien couldn't see her face, but he knew that she was smiling.
Despite the fact that she didn't get to hear the song, he was still going to play it for her. Only this time, it would be under very different circumstances.
"Don't worry, Princess... I'm going to fix this disaster!"
