* Chapter Twenty-One
'Can I ask why?' Jonghyun spoke up, breaking the odd silence that had collected around them. His fingers clutched Yoongi's resignation letter, his eyes staring right into the younger male, confused. Yoongi nodded, biting his thumb nail.
'I don't deserve to work for you now. I broke your trust and work code.' He was being genuinely honest. He didn't feel comfortable working for Jonghyun knowing that'd he'd broken a code of conduct. Didn't sit right with him.
'Oh,' Jonghyun didn't say anything for a while, just set the paper down and turned his attention to Yoongi properly. He folded his hands on his desk and his eyebrows were drawn. Under his gaze, I feel like a child being scolded.
After the Hoseok situation a few days ago, Yoongi finally worked up the courage to quit work. He didn't want to have that guilt hanging over his head, knowing he'd broke the one promise he was supposed to keep as an employee.
So Yoongi decided that resigning from his job was the best option. He'd thought that Jonghyun would've been happy, not confused. Yet, the way Jonghyun's eyebrows were creased and how the cogs in his head were turning, Yoongi couldn't help but feel confused himself.
'Do you really have to go?' Jonghyun sighed before continuing on, 'don't tell anyone I said this but, you're my favourite employee.' Yoongi couldn't help but feel quite touched yet confused (again). I'm his favourite? What the fuck?
'I'm sorry sir.' His heart was doing this weird thing and suddenly, he was regretting his decision. It's for the best. He kept telling himself that, a broken mantra.
With a small nod, Jonghyun continued, 'its fine. Do you have anywhere else to go? Is there another job you've got?'
'No. Not yet. I've been a bit sick and had stuff going on.' The expression that crossed his face, Yoongi knew that his boss was told about his lack of sleep.
'I hope you find somewhere soon, then. And good luck, Yoongi,' Suddenly, Yoongi found himself in the embrace of his former boss. His hands came to rest on Jonghyun's shoulder, almost hesitantly. 'Please look after yourself, okay? Don't hesitate to give me a call if you need a job or something. I can always put in a good word if you need it. We're gonna miss you.'
'Thank you so much Jonghyun. For everything these last few years.' With one final goodbye, Yoongi was exiting the office only to be faced with a teary-eyed Mina and sad expressions of his fellow employees.
'It's been nice working alongside you, Yoongi.' Minho stepped forward, a huge grin on his face. He clapped Yoongi on the shoulder and suddenly Yoongi felt overwhelmed. And a little guilty. They're sad to see you go and you couldn't even bother to learn half their names. Fucking dumbass.
'Good luck! Please don't forget to drop by sometime!' A girl (once again Yoongi felt like shit for not remembering her name) called from the back. Her hands were raised above her head in thumbs up.
Yoongi placed a hand over his heart as Mina appeared (he hadn't even noticed she'd gone) rolling a small tray out, a cake on top.
'We were told by Mina about your resignation yesterday so we got busy making a cake for you last night.' Minho informed him and Yoongi couldn't help the small tears that escaped his eyes. They did this for me? He wiped
Written on top of the cake in fancy writing was we'll miss you, Yoongi. Flowers decorated the edges of the cake and sprinkles covered every inch of the white icing.
'I'm truly touched. Thank you.' He whispered, glancing around the room. Mina suddenly pulled him into a tight hug, her wet face soaking his shirt, not that he cared.
'Please fucking keep in touch with me, twat. I'll hunt you down if you don't.' Her threat was muffled by his shirt but it still forced a chuckle from his throat.
'Promise, Mina.' He mumbled against her shoulder before pulling away, just in time for Jonghyun to be handing him a knife. Carefully, Yoongi cut the cake up into even squares before handing it out.
He wasn't sure how long he spent hanging and saying goodbye to his ex-employees. They mingled around him while Yoongi stood off to the side, still nursing his slice of cake. It didn't bother him that he was forced to just sit back and watch. If anything, it was nice. Every so often though, they'd include him a story or joke and he'd laugh. Other than that, he'd just sit back, a small, pleased smile decorating his face and watched them. Mina and Jonghyun threw him bright smiles every five seconds.
Yoongi should've been sad that he was saying goodbye to the people he'd spent the last few years talking to, working beside. Oddly, he felt calm.
When his phone vibrated in his pocket and he saw two different messages, both eliciting two different emotions from his heart, he frowned and the calm feeling washed away. A cold, unsettling front settled over him.
Hope: I'm sorry, Yoongi. Please answer me so I can explain. Then you decide I'm nothing.
Hope: Please just let me explain.
Yoongi: Please stop messaging me, Hoseok. I'll block you.
Why can't he just leave me alone? Deep down, Yoongi knew he'd never be able to block Hoseok. They'd been friends for so long and his feelings for the younger male were too strong for him to pull a stunt like that. He just wished Hoseok would leave him alone. He did that for two weeks, Yoongi.
The way Hoseok was messaging him, felt like a break-up. Like Yoongi was trying to move on from the younger male breaking his heart and trust. Basically what it is, right? He hurt you and broke your trust. It's basically a breakup minus the kissing and both sided feelings.
What Yoongi couldn't understand was as to why Hoseok had even texted him. For his mental and emotional state, he could've handled Hoseok never speaking to him again. It would've taken him a while to get over the betrayal and hurt his friend had caused him but it would've been easier to handle.
Shaking his head, trying to rid himself of the rising anger and annoyance, Yoongi opened Jin's tab.
Jinnie: Stop fucking ignoring Hoseok. I know you're mad but let him explain??
Jinnie: even if not for your sake, do it for my phone. My phone's 89% slower now thnks to him. He's a clingy bf.
Jinnie: but in all seriousness, please do talk to him.
Yoongi: But why?
'Who are you texting?' Mina was staring over his shoulder, trying to peek at his phone. Scowling, he hid his phone in his chest, staring her down.
'Jin,' he placed his half-eaten plate of cake on the bench. 'I've got to go, Mina. Thank you so much for this weird going away party but Jin needs my help at home.'
Mina squeezed his shoulder before reassuring him, 'It's all good. You gonna take the rest of the cake home?'
'Yeah. Tae might eat it.' Mina packed up the rest of the cake for Yoongi. She handed him the pale box, eyes shining with unshed tears. Grinning and heart heavy, Yoongi hugged her the best as he could with the huge box between them.
As if noticing or sensing Yoongi's decision to depart, Minho waltzed over. 'Leaving already?'
'Important roomie business. Sorry, Min. Thank you so much for this though. I'm gonna miss you guys.' Minho nodded.
'Please for the love of god, don't be a fucking stranger, Yoongi. I want to stay in touch with you, fucker. If you don't text me, I'll hunt you down and cut your dick off.' He threatened. The three of them started laughing, despite the minor fear settling in Yoongi's gut. Knowing Minho, he probably would've.
'I promise. I'll be texting you so much you'll block my ass.' Yoongi joked and Minho just scoffed, shaking his head.
'Okay, sure. You believe that.' Jonghyun spoke up. Yoongi just grinned at him before remembering he had other important stuff to do. Like the deal with Hoseok.
His phone vibrated twice in his pocket.
Jinnie: bc he demands an answer.
Jinnie: also when u returning.
'I've really got to go.' He took the box from Mina and shifted from foot to foot. His ex-boss just patted his shoulder.
'Take care of yourself, kiddo. Feel free to message me if you need help. Good luck, Yoongi.' Jonghyun hugged him briefly before he let Yoongi leave.
The younger male waved to his past employees, heart heavy in his chest. I'm gonna miss them.

'So, how did it go with Jong?' Jin asked. The two of them were seated on the couches, facing the huge window in their lounge room. An open 6-pack of beers sat on the coffee table in front of them, half the bottles already gone. Taehyung was down in the studio with Taemin and Jungkook had gone out (despite literally everyone's protests) with Chaeyoung.
It was just the two of them left in the house and Yoongi had kinda missed spending one on one time with Jin.
Yoongi took a small sip before answering, 'There's cake. That's all that really matters,' for the umpteenth time that day, he found himself grinning. 'I'm gonna miss half of them. Mina and Minho especially. Jonghyun too.'
'That's something. 'What're you gonna do now?' Jin prodded, leaning his elbows on his knees. Yoongi shrugged.
'I'll probably need to look for another job, right?' Jin nodded. Even Yoongi knew he needed another job ASAP. They barely had enough money while he was working. Now that'd he'd quit, they'd struggle a little more, despite both Jin and Taehyung having good paying jobs. 'Give me time and I'll find something. But for now, I'm kinda gonna enjoy my freedom.' Jin chuckled and the two slipped into a comfortable silence. A permanent grin was etched on the older male's face, his cheeks pink thanks to the alcohol in his system.
Yoongi broke the silence again when Jin reached for his second bottle, popping the lid with a loud noise. 'How are you and Namjoon?'
'Good. I mean, we've only been dating for a month so I guess it's good.' Jin's eyes brightened, pupils dilated. His whole face was alive now, more alert and interested.
'I haven't seen him in a few weeks. How is he?'
'He's pretty good. He recently got a dog called Rap Mon. He's the cutest fucking thing I've ever seen I love him,' Jin was so fucking animated talking about Namjoon and it was cute. 'And he dyed his hair a silver colour. He keeps insisting it's silver but it doesn't really look silver. More like a really weird brown. Either way, he looks hot.'
'Do you have any photos? I haven't seen it.' As if waiting for the question, Jin's speedy hand whipped his phone out and opened his photos, swiping to the latest photo of Namjoon. The guy was posing for the camera, lips puckered like he was going to kiss the camera. Sure enough, he had silvery brown hair.
Yoongi couldn't help but agree with Jin. 'He does look good. Wow.' Triumphant, Jin smirked and slipped his phone away.
'Damn fucking straight.'
'Last time I checked, there's nothing straight about you two.'
'Good point.' Yoongi started giggling, taking another sip of his beer. Suddenly Jin frowned.
His voice was soft when the next words tumbled out of his mouth, 'I've missed us.'
'So have I. Even though we see each other every day, it feels like I haven't seen you in a while.' Yoongi's phone vibrated against his thigh and without even looking at it, a gut feeling told him it was Hoseok.
'I know. You and I should go and do more shit together.' At the older male's suggestion, Yoongi nodded and set his now empty beer bottle down. Only two more bottles remained in the container and he was tossing up whether he should.
'Yeah. It's been almost two months since that stupid fair.' Jin winced, memories of their fight flooding back. Not a good event. Yoongi's phone vibrated again. Fed up, he had a look and saw Hope with two hidden messages under his name. He pretended to miss Jin's raised eyebrows and silent when the fuck are you gonna answer him?
'How's Hoseok? Have you spoken to him yet?' Touchy subject, Jin knew that. But he also knew how much both of the morons were suffering.
Hoseok had called Jin's phone several times the last few days or so, asking him if Yoongi could respond or if he could just explain and pass it on. Every single time Jin's response was the same; he'll contact you when he's ready. You did hurt him, Hoseok.
The other had responded, I know. I want to make it up to him. He never pushed it though.
Yoongi on the other hand, well everyone in the vicinity saw what happened to him. Worked himself to the point of passing out. After Hoseok had contacted him again, he shut himself off and refused to even mention Hoseok. His whole mood about Hoseok frightened them. So no one said anything.
Until now, clearly. Jin didn't exactly like Hoseok (due to the current events) but he didn't like seeing his best friend suffer like this. Damn it, he'd do anything in his power to make sure Hoseok and Yoongi were on good terms.
'It's none of your business, Seokjin. But no, I haven't answered him yet.' Yoongi didn't mean for his tone to come out snappy but he couldn't help it. None of this was Jin's business. No one needed to know what happened between Yoongi and Hoseok.
'Sorry. Just asking,' A sigh slipped past Jin's lips as he hunched over, exhausted. Guilt swelled up in Yoongi. 'But are you ever gonna talk to him? He won't leave me alone.' So I've heard.
With a shrug, Yoongi reached for the other bottle of beer. 'Possibly. I mean, he did hurt me. It sounds like I'm overreacting but he spent a week with me then never answered me. Felt like I did something wrong.'
'God, you make it sound like a breakup or something.' At that, both of them broke into a fit of giggles and the tension washed out of Yoongi's muscles.
'Well it kind of feels like that.' Yoongi admitted, feeling stupid. Losing contact with Seokseok shouldn't make me feel like this.
'You should talk to him.'
'One day.'
'He's supposedly really sorry, Yoongi. I've spoken to Jimin as well,' a sharp expression from Yoongi. Jin continued, 'He said you should talk to Hoseok. It'll be good for everyone.'
'I don't want to.'
'You don't even have to accept his apology or be friends with him again. Just hear his side of the story, okay? He's hurting too and I don't like seeing you this angry and upset over him' Yoongi didn't say anything and he hated how his roommate was probably right. He chugged his beer while Jin picked at the lose thread of his jeans. Guilt crept up in him again. Maybe Jin has a point.
A thundering of footsteps vibrated throughout the room and the corner of Jin's mouth quirked. 'The children are back.' As if being summoned, Two Taes ran into the room, loud sounds falling past their lips. Yoongi couldn't pick up on anything they were saying but they were giving him a migraine.
'Shut up?' He shouted and rose to his feet. Immediately, Taehyung closed his mouth and turned to Yoongi.
'Sorry. Taemin lost in a dance battle and he's bitching.' At that, Taemin smacked Taehyung and their yelling started up again. Jin and Yoongi shared a defeated look.
'Alright whatever. Just stop yelling this late at night,' Two Taes shut up almost automatic. 'Where's Kook? When's he getting back?'
'Don't know. I've got to pick him up very soon.' Taehyung mumbled, looking around for his keys.
'Please do so. I'm worried about the kid.' Jin mumbled under his breath. 'Actually, I'll come with you. Get your shit.' Jin whipped out his phone and texted Jungkook.
'I'm going to bed. Goodnight.' He got a chorus of 'goodnight's' before he waltzed to his room, slamming the door shut behind him. He couldn't stop replaying Jin's words about Hoseok in his head. You don't even have to be friends with him. Just listen to what he has to say. That's when he remembered the younger male's previous message.
Hope: I've missed you. I really fucking miss you.
Hope: I'm so sorry.
Just as Yoongi had opened the messenger, another text came through.
Hope: Goodnight, Yoongi.
There's really no harm in replying, right? Yoongi knew that in the morning, he'd try to blame the small amount of alcohol in his system but right now, he didn't care. He'd just missed Hoseok.
Yoongi: Goodnight, Seokseok x
