2 | a reason to go
The door to Alex's room opened, hearing the creak of the door, reminded her that she should use some WD40 on that bitch. Put that on the mental list of things to do, future Alex. Groaning, Alex grabbing her pillow from under her head and put it over her head to hide from whatever was going to drag her out of bed. She felt the weight shifting a bit, it's closing in on her. No escape.
"Auntie, get up!" Nick exclaimed shaking her with both his hands.
Lifting the pillow to look at the boy, Alex swatted his hands away as she rolled over and sat up. She noticed Nick's sister in the doorway of her room. Knowing her brother, Nia couldn't talk her way out of joining his shenanigans. Alex looked to her clock on her bedside table, leaning over to look at the time. It read: '8:35am'. Alex clicked her tongue in annoyance.
"Homie, it is 8 in the morning. Why are you waking me up this early? And also it's Friday and it's summer vacation!" Alex exclaimed a bit out of frustration and sleepiness.
"Sorry, I couldn't stop him." Nia's voice piped up.
"Oh no, it's not your fault. This is all on your brother." Alex said as she looked from one twin to the other.
"Well, I wanted to get up early, I have stuff to do before we go to the Pizzaplex this afternoon." Nick said.
Alex rolled her eyes at her nephew and chuckled at his words. "What kinda of stuff does an 8 year old deem as important? You have less responsibilities to take care of than I do." Alex said.
"You don't know that! I doubt you remember what it's like being a kid." Nick said.
"Are you calling me old? I'm not for your information I'm 23 years old! And second I haven't been a "kid" since I was 12. Sure the years haven't been kind to me but at least let me sleep in when I can. I beg you." Alex said.
"Fine. Sorry for waking you." Nick apologized.
"Nope, it's too late. I'm already awake and since I'm awake, how about waffles for breakfast." Alex said with smile.
The twins perked up at this. Pleading eyes of excitement were present in both.
"Yes please!" Nia said.
"I want waffles!" Nick said after his sister.
"Well, let's go then!" Alex exclaimed.
Nick hopped out of Alex's bed and Nia waited for her brother at Alex's bedroom door as they both ran down the stairs to the living room. Alex got up from her bed, stretched her arms a bit and let out a yawn as she put pajama pants on as well as a hoodie feeling a bit chill as she left the comfort of her blankets. Alex walked over to her bedside table, opening the drawer and grabbing her glasses that she used before she put her contacts in when she goes somewhere.
With her glasses on her face, Alex made her way downstairs where the twins were already glued to the tv screen, watching some cartoon that Alex probably didn't know the name of. She walked into the kitchen and grabbed the necessary things to make morning waffles. Going to the fridge again grabbing an iced coffee in the glass bottle from the first shelf in the fridge. Alex doesn't normally drink coffee but it's just one of those days.
After an eventful singing along to the same shitty music that Alex has listened to since high school waffle making, it was about 9:45 am when the Scotts sat down to eat the waffles after Alex set the table.
"Auntie, I want juice." Nick said.
"Me too." Nia muttered after.
"No. You both had enough juice, you're having milk besides it's good for the bones." Alex said.
Nick groaned as Nia was fine with milk as an alternative to sugar water humans called juice.
"Why?! You're just like Dad." Nick said.
"Yep. And my brother is the best dad in the world beside your grandfather that is. He's the best. And I'm just looking out for the two of you. That's what aunts do right?" Alex asked.
"Yeah," Nia turned to her brother, nudging his arm with her hand. "Come on, Nick." She said.
"You're right." Nick said giving in.
"Like always. Do I ever steer ya wrong?" Alex asked.
"No." The twins said.
"Then I'm doing something right!" Alex exclaimed.
"Let's eat!" Nick said as Nia nodded along in agreement.
-2-3 waffles later-
Nia helped Alex clean up the dishes from the kitchen table and both her and Alex watched them in the sink. Nia always did this sort of thing with her dad so out of habit, Alex and Nia did the dishes together, putting them away after Nia dried them. Nia talked more than usual and about all sorts of things.
A movie that she loved, animals, hoping her aunt will get a cat or dog; Nia's not picky when it comes to animals if it's cute she will love. Yet she has an odd fascination with alligators, knows many facts about them and she will not hesitate to tell you ever single one.
After putting all the dishes back in their place, Alex went upstairs to her bathroom while Nia rejoined her brother in the living room to watch tv. Alex wanted to wash her face and put her contacts in. She hated her dorky looking glasses, having the IQ to boot wasn't fun either. Stereotypes, am I right?
A loud gasp came from the living rooom which made Alex go into protective mode. Racing down the stairs, almost tripping up and falling down said steps. She slid on the hard wood floor of the hallway and into the entryway of the living room.
"What happened?! Who did what?!" Alex exclaimed.
"Sorry, Auntie Alex. But, alligator!" Nia said putting at the screen of the tv.
On the screen was another Freddy's commercial. It was showing one of the new mascots. It was the alligator. His star shaped sunglasses were pretty cool. Though his red mohawk reminded her of that lame, punk wannabe from high school but at least this gator was cool. But a gator around children doesn't seem safe, those teeth and claws look sharp in Alex's opinion but Alex has a feeling he's been trained.
"I see. I bet now this gives you enough reason to go right?" Alex said with a sigh of relief.
Nia hummed with rapid head nods. "Yes, he's so cool-looking." Nia said.
"When do we leave?" Nick asked turning over his shoulder to look at Alex.
"10:40 or so. Maybe the both of you should get dressed. Though I believe we are 20 minutes away which I never knew I was." Alex said glancing at her phone.
'Why haven't I ever passed this place? Maybe because work's not that way and everything else. Or maybe it's because I don't leave the house often enough.' Alex frowned in thought.
"Okay. Come on, Nia." Nick said grabbing his sister by the hand.
Nick and Nia went up the stairs to get ready for the day, Alex watched until they were out of her sight. She walked into the living room to turn off the tv but another commercial came on and a familiar face made her eyes widened. A red fox with an eyepatch though he had a new look, Alex could still recognize him.
"Foxy..." That name left her mouth. "It's been a long time, Captain." She smiled.
Now, Alex had enough reason to go to the new Freddy's location. She had to see for herself if the fox from her childhood was same storyteller she knew back then.
