Soda and Steve where sitting on the back of one of the cars they had just fixed .Radiater leak to be exact . While they we're sitting there Soda noticed a crumpled piece is paper in his pocket he pulled it out and tried to make out the faded letters . RODEO FINALIST : Sodapop Curtis , Beau Matejka , Chase Martin and Kyle Hyde . " Oh that the list of the Sadle bronc finalist " Soda said smiling. He really enjoyed riding those ponies . " You liked that stuff didn't you" Steve said kinda mumbled to his self . " Yeah , I really did " Soda said  " I wouldn't do it again , cause dad wouldn't want me to " Soda smiled to his self . Steves face lit up " hey , what if I can try , could I Soda do you think I could " Steve said smiling cheek to cheek . " Oh yeah man you should totally try it I'll help you out " Soda said just ask excited." How am I going to practice?" Steve questioned " Uh, I'm sure Dally or buck know someone " Soda said . For the rest of the day Steve asked Soda questions about the whole experience and what to do how to hold everything. Sodapop loved his excitement. Steve had been in the stand of the rodeo a hundred or more time . He loved the excitement and had always wanted to be in there somehow. He just did have the money , but lately he had been trying to save for something special and I guess this would be it . " I can't wait to go and tell Evie " Steve squealed " Will she worry " Soda asked " Nah , she cool like that sure she get nervous but she'll let me do it if that's what your asking " Steve reassured Sodapop.

Soda and Steve went to go talk to Dally even though they knew they see him later that day , but Steve was to excited. Dally was of course at Bucks place and which happened to be perfect. Buck  opened the door " I'll get Dallas " Buck said while rolling his eyes " No , Buck I wanted to know if we could start doing more rodeo , I'm going to teach Steve how to ride bronc . We thought you would know some place we could get him in and practice some " Soda said trying to keep the sass out of his voice because he didn't like Buck . " So you wanta ride ponies huh Steve " Buck said sarcastically " I AM going to ride "ponies" and your going to get me a place where I can learn how " Steve said demanding some respect. You had to bully Buck to get your way . " Sure I knowa place " Buck said softing his tone . 

1 week later  STEVES P.O.V 

We found a rodeo for me to ride in . I was 2 months away from actually experienceing  the thrill of a life time . Man , was I excited. I wasn't scared not one bit . Soda kept insting that I would go just about die of fright right before I got on the horse , but I wouldn't believe. Dally was know as tough . Darry was known as strong . I was known for being reckless and this is something to add this that list . When I told Evie she was so excited she really was . She wasn't worried about me at all she knew I could handle my self . She was the greatest gal a guy could have . She came and watched me practice every day . 

Soda still had the riging from when he did it so that saved me a whole lot a money . He even gave me a pair of chaps he had from it they were real nice since he won them in one of the rides had gone on . He used to be real good . I had to get first man .I was going to beat who ever I was against and I was going to like it too . I would be good at whatever I was doing . Over the years I had forced myself too. 

Later that day 

Crank cling bang the sound of the shoots would be over welming to anyone ..... except me . I was never scared.Nothin could scare me .  "Alright ,Steve get on" . Soda was nervous just sitting there  . I can't imagine how he felt when he was actually about to ride . I got on the horse and Buck fave me the funniest look " Where the hell is your glove " Buck said giving me a glare from hell . "Uh , I don't know . Soda do you got a leather glove " " No buddy I lost it the last time I rode " Soda said " Well your gonna have to try with out one ......." Buck then went on trying to  explain how to hold on and how to ride . " I know I know " I said " NO , you don't listen to me " Buck said in a rough voice . Alright hold on .i had to old on with all my might and it gave my shoulder hell but worse if all is that my bare hand was getting a terrible blister . Damn it Buck he should've given my a damn glove . 

I had held on the time need and tried to fall the way Buck and Dally had told me . I guess it worked since my head wasn't kicked of . My butt was planted in the ground but I was okay . I stood up dusted off my brand new blue jeans real wranglers ( that's were most of my money went ) and when felt a stinging pain in my palm I quickly picked up my hand saw the worlds worst blister . It was the size of a quarter and was bleeding in pin point spots the skin was flapping and about to fall off pus was forming on the outer ring and damn did it hurt . " What you looking at kid " Buck hollered " This damn blister " I shouted back . Evie jumped over the fence to check it out. She was scared just wanted to see if she could help . " " Lordy , I'll go get a band-aid " she said while messing up my hair . 

"Ssssssrrrrrr that hurts " I groaned " yeah I knew but if you want it to heal before you ride it's going to half to happen " Evie said while wrapping a bandage around the side of my hand ." You big baby  I have had hundreds of those and just poured some water on it and I was fine " Buck said while showing me his badly scared hands . " O well whatever I ain't going to let this get in the way of my riding " I said while getting up and walking back to the horse ready to go again . Practice went like this for weeks til the day finally came . 

2 months later

I woke up extra early that morning 5:00 I ran over to Sodas house but not before thinking about my dad . I hated that guy but I wander if he would want to come . I walked into his bedroom and shook him a lil " he ugh dad ima riding saddle bronc today if you want to come " I said just above a whisper " I'll see just don't lose " my dad said while turning over away from me " Yeah okay " i said bluntly . I then ran out the house forgetting all of what just happened I pushed through the door and screamed for Soda . Darry came stopping out of his room about to bite my head of when I flashed him a grin . He took a breath then said " I'll get Soda just don't tell for him " . Soda was out in a heart beat . He was wearing some blue basketball shorts and a dirty baggy offwhite tshirt . Probably just one that he had picked up off the ground the night before . " You know you don't ride till 3:00 right " Soda said rubbing his ungreased hair " Yeah just thought I come by "  " sure , want some breakfast " yeah I'll take some " Soda then handed me  a piece of Chocolate cake and said Just for you even though Darry had made just like he Always does .  The day was taking for ever we left about 12:30 . Well me and Soda and Buck and Dally the rest would come along later . Dally and I had to be there early cause we were riding . When we got there I was scooping out my competition. He got arms like a monkey , look at the elf and are u barrel racing. Let just say I made lot of enemies real fast . It was a gift of mine . After I got signed in and everything. I went to go look at the horses . " OMG STRVE STEVE LOOK LOOK " Soda was rubbing the head of a horse had the same color coat as Soda had hair . Then I realized " Omg Mickey Mouse " I dropped my stuff and ran over to Soda of course spooking the horse and Soda having to calm him Down " he there buddy it's okay " Soda said while calming down his horse . He was chewing on Soda collar soon enough. Then a lady came up and asked if he could take a picture of Soda and his horse . I laughed and started to say that wasn't his real horse but was quickly cut off my Soda yell " yeas good ahead " the took a good picture and he asked for a copy the lady just gave him the picture and Soda admiringly looked at it man I this is one horse . Soda said while putting the picture in his pocket . Then some guys came and walked him off said he was going to be a saddle bronc horse . Me and Sodas jaws fell wide open " he is one feisty horse" Soda said not as surprised anymore . 

Riding next will be Steve Randle a  Tulsa cowboy trying to figure if the boot fits . Can't believe they called me a cowboy. That was a long shot but would be fun . I had a glove on thankfully and Evie was right there by my side and Buck Dallas and Soda where already at the shoot . You here that they ales you cowboy Dally said . They sat me on the horse and Evie gave me a kiss before stepping back . Soda then leaned in for one but pushed him away watching him laugh as if someone had but ticked him . " Alrighty........ " Buck went on telling me everything h had already told me and Dally just shaking his head . For some problem my heart started racing I could feel my heart beat . My stomach took a violent turn and I was freakin out my chest felt empt and shoulder went tense " you ready " some random cowboys asked Dally then patted my shoulder and said " yeah he's ready " . The gate was then opened and I was trying as hard as I could to hold on the way they had told me . I was being thrown around for what fell like minutes was just seconds my shoulder had been sore from all the practice and I could feel something movie . Well that can't be good I thought to myself for a split second with every jump a new set of excitement came to me it was real cool . I then heard the buzzer and let go not the way I was taught , but I heard hundreds of clap and hollers from the crowd whistle and yew-haws everything just for me . When I stood back up they were standing and Evie was standing on top of the shoot and Dallas and Buck where trying to keep her from falling . In all my life I have never been more proud well mabye except when I proved my dad wrong about a transmission in a car . That felt pretty great. My dad ... had he come was he here I spun real quick to see him sitting in the very back clapping and just slightly smiling. At least he was here 

After the rodeos 

Damn I know I rode longer than that other guy I said . I had come home with second and got a trophy too. " it ain't about how long it's about how " Buck said after being annoyed about how many time he had to say it . " I don't care my cowboy did great " Evie said laying her head on my shoulder " Oww that Evie that's the sore shoulder " She then grabbed my arm in to socket " WTF " what was that " I screamed from pain " feel better " Evie said not faced by my screams " uh yeah thanks " I said surely surprised " I'm proud of you Steve " Soda said looking back from the front seat " my first time I got 3rd " Soda said " haha" 

When we got home the gang got there sooner and had got me a chocolate just for me and two/bit handed me a sherries badge as a joke . I nearly clubbed him . They had seen the whole thing and kept telling what a good job I had done I was still ticked I didn't get first but I was glad the were proud . Pony handed me something and he had somehow got that photographer lady to get a shot of me it turned out pretty good " thanks kid " I said " yeah no problem " he said . O yeah look who I saw Soda said screaming with a smile check yo cheek and he pulled out the picture of him and Mickey Mouse . Wow and that great man Soda was so happy he really loved that horse . We had all nearly forgotten that Dally got first in his racing and it was making him mad just the Tim Shepherd ran through the door with a piece of paper WORLD RECORD BROKEN FASTEST JOKEY TIME : DALLAS WINSTON AND MICKEY MOUSE 

I thought the said he was a Bronc. Uh I guess not he did seem kinda fimilar Dallas said finally cracking a grin . He then grab a piece of cake and said hey share some I am better winner than you . I then throw the cake in Dallas face and I eventually was were the whole cake myself !!!!!
