The Interruption
February 18th 12:56am
I'm not sure if it was Jaime's annoying ringtone or him rocketing forward from his laying down position, that woke me up. But either way I was quite annoyed. Jaime grabbed his phone, pressed the answer button and put it up to his ear.
"Tye. It's almost midnight and I'm kinda busy," He gave me a sorry look before hissing angrily back into the phone, "What?!"
"I've had enough, Jaime," the voice on the other side of the phone growled, I scooted away, not wanting to invade his privacy. But it was kinda hard because of how high Jaime keeps his call volume.
"Slow down, hermano." Jaime said nervously, standing up and pacing his room, "...Tye, listen, I'm on my way." Jaime grabbed his hoodie and T-shirt and walked over to his open window, "I'll meet you by the statue of Cochise. We'll talk. Just promise me you'll wait till I get there."
Jaime put one foot on the ledge as his blue and black armour surrounded his body. He hung up the phone right before he was ready to take off.
"What happened?!" I questioned worriedly.
"My best friend is trying to run away." He answered sulkenly. I rolled off the bed and ran to the window.
"Can I--?" Before I could finish he had me by the waist and was flying out of the window. I wrapped my arms around his neck tightly as his altitude increased.
"I'm trying to stop a friend from making a massive mistake. What greater purpose is there?" Jaime hissed.
"I-I don't know." I answered with uncertainty.
"No. Not you, sorry." He mumbled, holding me up closer to him.
When we arrived at the Bus Depot he set me down in some bushes and removed his armour.
"Do you want me to wait here?" I asked, pointing to the ground behind the bushes as he put on his shirt.
"Please do." He replied, zipping up his jacket and running off to meet Tye.
"Excuse me." Jaime said to a man who was coming out of a door with a clipboard, "The bus to Houston?"
"You just missed it." I heard the man say apologetically, "But there'll be another one in the morning."
"Thanks." Jaime said glumly.
I ran out of the bushes to Jaime.
"Oh, Honey, I'm so sorry." I wrapped my arms around his torso and he wrapped his around my shoulders.
"It's fine, I'll find him. I just need to--" the sound of my ringtone began playing from my pocket, I pulled it out to see it was a call from Nightwing. I held up my finger- begging for just one second.
"Do you have any idea what time it is?" I flustered with a fake yawn for effect.
"Well, if you're in Gotham it's 3:04am, which is usually when you're awake for training, but if you're not in Gotham... Then I don't have any idea." He answered smugly.
"I can hear your smirk. What do you need?"
"I need an all female squad for a trip to the Bialyian desert- and Batman's cleared you for missions while he's away."
"Okay. I'll be there in 20."
I hung up and turned to Jaime with an uneasy smile.
"Love Muffin?"
"It's okay. I was headed home anyways." He pointed his thumb in the direction of his house.
"I'll be back as soon as possible, Jellybean. I promise."
"Don't feel bad you've got a mission. Just go and do great, alright?" I nodded and gave him another hug. He brought his head down and gave me another long kiss- just as gentle, but this time with more longing.
"I'll miss you, Handsome." I whimpered into his ear.
"I'll miss you, too, mi reina." He replied, pulling me closer. I took in a deep breath, his pleasant scent filled my nostrils. Before I pulled away I gave him a quick lick on the ear. He laughed before prodding me away.
I left to the nearest zeta-beam teleporter as he walked back home in the other direction.
"Recognized: Mad Hatter, B-0-2." The computer chimed as I walked into the cave to see Batgirl and Miss. Martian were already waiting with Nightwing, who was looking at the holographic screen.
"Morning!" I sang with mock happiness as I skipped into the cave. Batgirl turned from the computer with a mug of coffee in her hands.
"How are you so happy this early?!"
"Because my night was amazing!" I replied, giving them jazz hands, but then my tone dropped and I crossed my arms, "Until somebody ruined it!" I put my hands in the air, "You bastard! You knew I was on a date!"
"We needed you." Nightwing explained, shaking his head, "And you needed this." He groaned, turning around and holding something small and black in his hand.
"What is this?" I asked as I picked it up and examined it.
"A new chip... To keep your powers at bay. We just need to put it in your neck."
"Don't leave bits out!" Megan hissed, nudging him with her elbow.
"Right right right... Um... We need to fuse it to your spine."
"What?!" I cried.
"We don't want it to come off this time." He argued back.
"It didn't come off last time! It was ripped out of my neck, I still have the scar!!" I pulled my collar down to show the large scar in the crook of my neck, "If you connect it to my spine you risk people killing me to get it out!"
"I would never let that happen to you!" He shouted passionately, he looked down at the ground, "Not again..." He mumbled.
"Fine." I grumbled. He took my hand and lead me to the kitchen.
"I'll help you stay unconscious while he does it- since it's a really long procedure." Megan said as she had me lay face down on the counter.
"Did it have to be on the kitchen counter?" I asked begrudgingly before putting my face on the arm pillow I had created for myself.
"We're just trying to get it over with- and are those your clothes?" Nightwing motioned to my sweatpants and T-shirt.
"No," my voice muffled as I spoke into my arms, "They're Jaime's-he let me borrow them since I was staying at his place. And how long is this gonna--" I heard a low groan and within seconds I could feel a presence in my mind forcing me into unconsciousness.
February 20th
When I woke up it felt like seconds later, but from the two new people (Bee and Wonder Girl) I knew it had to have been much longer. I lifted my head, wishing I hadn't as a sharp pain shot through my body all the way down to my toes.
"What the f*ck, Nightwing!?" I whimpered, rubbing my neck lightly.
"That wasn't my fault- maybe you just slept with your neck at a weird angle at Blue Beetle's house." He shrugged his shoulders bitterly, walking out of the kitchen, "Board the bioship, I'll brief you on your way." He ordered.
The five of us nodded as we as we followed him. Prior to boarding the ship I grabbed Dick's shoulder and pulled him down to my height.
"We slept together, ya'know." I growled innocently in his ear. Although it was the truth, seeing how we "slept in the same bed", I knew he would take it the other way.
"Please... Stop teasing me."
"Stop making me." I demanded, skipping off to the ship.
