Not Really Dead
I was bawling my eyes out by the time Jaime had taken me through the zeta beam to Gotham City.
"I-I'm s-s-so so-sorry." I wheezed out, unable to breathe as I cried harder. "I haven't taken my medication, a-a-and I can't handle situations like that v-very well."
Jaime pulled me close into his chest and began to rub my hair. He whispered quietly into my ear, trying to calm me down.
"It's okay."
"I'm so worthless. I should've died five years ago!" I screamed out, pushing away from him and hurrying down the alleyway.
I heard the pattering of his feet as he chased after me, but I had grabbed onto a pipe and climbed up to a rooftop.
Running....
Running...
Running..
Running.
I just kept running across the roofs, jumping over every ledge, making my way through Gotham in the only way I had seen it: fast. I didn't know where I was going, all I knew was that my feet would take me to the right place.
I slid down a drain pipe just as it began to sprinkle and fog blew over the city. I landed on top of a dumpster and hurriedly jumped off, turning right as I hurried into an alley. I ducked behind a trash can just as I saw a blue superhero fly over me- I had lost Jaime for the time being.
I stood up and continued down the alley until I found myself in front of a large, metal door. My eyes widened when I heard voices coming from inside. I let out a shaky breath, one I could see because of how cold it was.
I reached out to the handle, pulling it roughly before realizing it was locked. I sighed heavily, getting down on my knees and pulling a bobby pin from my hair and sticking it into the lock.
"C'mon, Dolls." I whispered to myself. "I know it's been a while, but you can do it." After a few more jiggles I managed to unlock the door, but I didn't open it yet. I hooked around to a power box on the roof and meddled with a few wires before hurrying back down to the door.
I counted in my head, when I reached 6 I opened the door and ran inside, by the time I had counted to 8 I was sitting on a table and the lights, I had rigged to go off, came back on. I crossed my legs and stuck my arms in the air.
"Surprise!" I yelled out. "Now that's how you make a dramatic entrance, am I right, boys?" All at once almost ten guns were cocked and pointed at me. I giggled quietly and hopped off of the table, walking over to a man and giving him a hug. "Oh, no! Tell them to stop pointing their guns at me!" I cried out in fake fear.
The man looked down at me, his mask shining dully in the dim lights of the room.
"Put your guns away!" He barked. The men immediately reholstered their weapons. I smiled happily... And Jason Todd finally returned my hug. "Nice to see you again, Dolly. How's my girl doing?" He asked, removing his helmet and shaking out his onyx hair.
"Getting there. No one thinks I'm dead anymore, so that's a good thing." I shrugged.
"Ah ah ahhh," he wiggled his finger at me. "It's so much better when people think you've kicked the bucket."
"Can we cut the small talk?" I asked suddenly after a short period of silence.
"Oh, thank goodness." He laughed. "I was worried we were gonna start talking about the weather. What do you need?"
"I know you've been keeping tabs on The Joker." I said in a low voice, leaning into his left ear. I backed up, looking him in his deep blue eyes as he cleared his throat.
"Clear the room!" He ordered, his 5 henchmen quickly left the room and left us alone.
"What do you need?" He pressed, raising one of his eyebrows. I bit my lip, reaching into my back pocket and pulling out the purple phone.
"I need to find him. I think he did something important in my life. Something that... That... I don't know." I sighed.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Jason replied, rubbing the back of his neck. I shook my head.
"I know you hate him, and I know why. But, Jay, he led me through the hardest years of my life."
"They were hard because of him, Dolly!" He growled, "And I'm going to kill whoever kidnapped you and stuck you with him and Harley."
"And I think I can figure out who that was. Please, Jason." I whined, grabbing onto the sleeve of his crossed arms and tugged it lightly. He looked down at me with a pointed look, before letting out a defeated sigh.
"Word on the street is he's blowing up Gotham City Bank... Tonight." I gasped in pleasant surprise. I pressed a kiss to his cheek and hurried out.
"Thanks, Jaybird! You're the best!"
"Visit more often, would'ya?" He called after me. I nodded happily.
"And if you ever need a favour, you know where to find ol'Miss. Johnson-Wayne." I said, giving him a quick wink and running out of the room. "And I'm borrowing your motorcycle."
"F*ck you!" He called after me playfully, I flicked him off before he tossed me the keys.
"Mi amor!" I heard Jaime calling out as he flew over the buildings.
"Jaime!" I responded, he quickly flew down to the alley I was in.
"Where were you?!" Jaime panicked, enveloping me into a bone-crushing hug, "I was terrified. The last thing I hear you say is you should've died and then I can't find you?" He panted. I gave him an apologetic face and grabbed his ears, bringing his head towards me so I could kiss his nose.
"I'm sorry, and you're right. But I need to go do something and I need you to trust me," I explained as he set his hands into my waist. He nodded slowly, sighing impatiently.
He squeezed my sides longingly, before looking down at me with furrowed eyebrows.
"Mi Amada? When was the last time you ate?" He asked, giving my sides another squeeze and rubbing his fingers over my boney hips and ribs. I pushed away from him quickly and released a nervous laugh.
"Sorry, Hot Chocolate, I... Uh... gotta go. Time sensitive... Um... Thing." I leaned in and gave a quick peck on the lips before turning to leave. He grabbed my wrist and spun me around.
"I have something I want to show you," he said, pulling me back towards him, "Maybe in a few days, so that we both have time to rest."
"That sounds great," I replied, he smiled softly, his face almost sad, even though it was smiling.
"How about about a better kiss?"
I happily obliged, giving him a longer, more passionate kiss as he pressed my body onto his. We were so close I could feel his heart racing just as mine did every time we kissed.
"Be careful."
"I will." I promised before running off.
