Beneath: Part 1

Nightwing's face was plastered on a holographic projection on the windshield of the bioship that Miss. Martian was controlling. Bumble Bee, Wonder Girl, and Batgirl were also seated in random chairs throughout the ship.

"Investigating the origin of the alien bomb that destroyed the Krolotean invasion force is still a high priority." Nightwing informed, "We suspect the bomb may have been smuggled to Earth via boom tube." A map of the U.S. appeared and red dots scattered it.

"Watchtower sensor scans in Bialya have recorded an uptick in boom tube activity. Alpha squad. Your mission is-"
"Sneak behind enemy lines," Wonder Girl cut him off, "Recon known boom tube hotspots and find alien tech matching the bomb."

"And don't get caught or create an international incident. Right?" I asked, laughing, knowing the covert part wouldn't last because I knew the girls I was working with too well.
"That about covers it." He said with a small smile directed at me.
"Psimon?" Miss. Martian questioned with a stoic face. A picture of a white man whose brain was clearly visible showed up on the screen.

"We have confirmation that Bialya's telepathic enforcer's still catatonic in a Quraci hospital. After his last encounter with you."
"And what the h*ll did you do to him?!" I laughed, giving her a look of surprise and approval. She shook her head and looked back to Nightwing who continued talking.

"But Bialya's dictator," a picture of a pretty tan woman appeared, "Queen Bee, is another story. Her ability to control the minds of men is why Alpha is an all-female squad for this mission.
"Oh really? And would you have felt the need to justify an all-male squad for a given mission?" Batgirl asked, crossing her arms. As soon as the words left her mouth I knew he was doomed.

All around the bioship the girls gave him angry looks.
"There's no right answer for that, is there? So Nightwing out." His face disappeared and I immediately jumped up to begin changing into my black body suit, which now consisted of cobalt boots and domino mask.
"Queen Bee isn't the only woman who can mess with a man's mind." Batgirl stated proudly, making an "OK" symbol with her hand.

We all laughed for a bit until I spoke up.
"He just said that for clarification to the audience." I defended, pulling the tight fabric past my hips.
"What the--?"
"It's this theory the Joker has- we are all on a show, well were, but now you're in a story that's based off the show- and as clarification to the kids watching, now reading, he explained Queen Bee's powers and-" I looked around at the raised eyebrows and dropped jaws, deciding against anything else I was going to say, "Never mind." I sighed, asking Wonder Girl to zip up the back of my suit.

      She complied happily.
"Are you ever gonna change your name? Or your costume?" Bumble Bee asked.
"Yeah, it's weird calling you 'Hatter'." Batgirl added as she turned in her seat. I shrugged my shoulders.
"I've been thinking, but everything I come up with is too long or too corny."
"What were you thinking?" Wonder Girl asked as I stood up and walked back to my seat.

"I was thinking 'Starfox', but that's our author's username." I sighed, "I feel like 'Cobalt Phantom' is too long," I shrugged my shoulders and brought my knees up to my chest.

"The other boom tube hotspots have all been busts, but--" Batgirl was whispering to the four of us as we were crouched down in the desert, being a hill as we looked over to the warehouse.
"But this much security must be guarding some big deal alien stuff, right?" I asked, peering over the ledge before looking back at the other girls.

"Our job is to find out. Batgirl, take the north hangar. I'll take  the south. Bee, the middle. Wonder Girl, hold position." Miss. Martian instructed.
"What? Wait, why can't I go in?" Wonder Girl asked indignantly, her mouth hanging open in offense.

''Because You're Wonder Girl, honey. Not Stealth-er Girl." Bumble Bee explained, crossing her arms.
"I can do this." She fought back. I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I peered over the ledge once more, another truck pulling in.

"No one's knocking your enthusiasm, Cass." Batgirl whispered, offering out an apologetic hand, "And if we were in a firefight there's no one I'd rather have beside me."
"But we're trying to avoid a fight," I added, shrugging my shoulders, "And we need a lookout." I turned to look at Miss. Martian,  "I'm assuming we should only use the psychic link. Considering, the Bialyans have the tech to intercept our radios." Miss. Martian nodded and put her hood up,
"Anything goes wrong, we scatter and meet at the rendezvous point. Clear?" I asked through the link.

"Clear." Everyone, except Wonder Girl, chorused. We all looked at Wonder Girl who had crossed arms and pouted lips.
"Ugh, Clear." She groans. We all dispersed as she slapped her forehead.
"I mean, clear." She gasped into the link.

I followed Batgirl to the roof, we grappled up quietly and neared a vent. I pulled out my wrist computer and showed it to Batgirl.
"I'm going to go through here," I explained quietly, showing her the tunnel in which three other vents connected.
